Text Cut: Volunteers At first, Josephina wasn't sure she was going to get any volunteers at all. But then, slowly but sure, she motioned for first the Head Girl, then the Gryffindor Captain to come up... Ravenclaw? No. They were all so young and they didn't seem eager to want to try even. Finally though, an unfamiliar older looking boy volunteered. Now Hufflepuff. A few young ones again, but ... OH! There was one younger who wanted to try it. She had only requested older students, not required it after all. "Hmm... I suppose, you can try, yes." Why not? It was just for fun and if he was wrong, then at least he tried ... besides best way to learn was by being wrong. Quote:

"Right then. Our four lovely volunteers are going to demonstrate how to calculate each of the four pinnacle cycles on the blackboard, using their own birthdays. Alex? You can calculate your first pinnacle for us and then explain to us the formula you used." She said looking at the Hufflepuff boy, before to the Ravenclaw boy, "You, calculate the second pinnacle." She paused, looking from Simon to Iris, as if deliberating which to give each. "Captain Bennett? You can show us the fourth pinnacle. And Iris will show us the third pinnacle." She paused again, thoughtfully. "Actually, Gwen dear?" She looked back toward the disappointed young Ravenclaw. "One of the numbers that is important in determining what Pinnacle cycle you're in is the life path number. Think you could manage demonstrating how to calculate that number as a quick refresher?" She knew the girl was a first year, but she seemed smart enough. Back to Legend and Katie. "As I've mentioned before, the ages that the Pinnacle Cycles influence you will vary based upon your life path number. Miss Mae? Prefect Chosen? There's table that provides the duration of your pinnacle cycles based upon your life path. Do you think you could work together to copy this table onto the board for us?" |
Simon followed the professor's motioning up to the front of the room, taking his textbook with him for quick reference if need be. He watched as she gave out their assignments, looking as if debating what to give himself and Iris and nodding in understanding as he was given his pinnacle. Fourth Pinnacle...end of life Glancing briefly at the book to see what he needed to calculate, he turned to the blankboard. He then found a piece of chalk and began to work on the arithmatic. Quote:

Catch up *flails* SPOILER!!: Professor Nika's mouth formed a small "O" shape as her professor explained what the pinnacle thing actually was. So it wasn't exactly point... "Oh... Yeah... That's what I was referring to..." She said with a sheepish smile as her face turned a light shade of pink. No, it had nothing to do with her suggestion, but if the professor was going to go along with it then she may as well go along with it too. It would make her look less stupid... Or perhaps even more stupid. This is why Nika's not a Ravenclaw. Then she heard her professor speak to the class as a whole to explain these "pinnacle" things further. Nika quickly whipped out some parchment and a quill which she should have done earlier and began to scribble notes. "Four pinnacles... period of life.... Life altering changes...." She finished scribbling phrases down just in time to look up when her professor asked for volunteers. Normally Nika wouldn't mind volunteering, but not in a class like Arithmancy. Not in a class where she had absolutely no idea what she was doing. And hey, she did ask for older students so it wouldn't make her look bad if she didn't volunteer. So for now she'd just look around and see what others were going to do. SPOILER!!: PROFESSORRR Nika stared at Professor Hadley with her mouth slightly opened. HUH? What...? She didn't understand a thing. Well maybe it was a good thing that some smarter students were doing the work. She'd just take more notes and pretend that she knew what she was doing. If all else fails she'd raise her hand to ask for help. |

How in the world did I end up volunteering? Gosh…I must stop being so competitive, the young Ravenclaw told herself. All right, maybe I can do this…, she tried encouraging herself. Listening to what she had to do, Gwen wished she could slap herself. Oh no! I don’t even understand Arithmancy- how on earth am I supposed to calculate…what was that again? Ah, the life path number? The life path number is found by Addition in means of Reduction of one’s full date of birth, Gwendolyn tried to gather her thoughts. But this doesn’t help me so much. So, again- what am I supposed to do. Think Gwendolyn, Think!, she kept telling herself. Wait…I know I read somewhere that the Life Path can be calculated three different ways. Which one do I have to use? I don’t even know one way, how could I know all 3 of them, so I guess I’m back to guessing, she decided. Quote:

Iris stood up as Professor Hadley motioned her to the front of the class, and walked over to the blackboard. Listening as the professor gave out the pinnacles, Iris picked up a piece of chalk and rolled it in her palm. The third pinnacle... Which one was that again? Oh, brilliant. Iris couldn't remember which one that was. The first one was month plus day.... and the second one was day and year... so the third one was the first plus second pinnacle. Oh, that wasn't fair! Well, no. I was entirely fair but that's not the point. Iris couldn't remember her first two pinnacles. Turning to the blackboard, Iris put her chalk to the board. Time to figure out the first two, first. month of birth + day of birth Setting her chalk down, Iris looked over her workings out. They all looked right... She just hoped they WERE correct, because if they weren't... well; wouldn't THAT be embarrassing? |
Penny sat at her desk making notes onto her parchment from the board and checking her textbook...thinking maybe she could try this as well.. Penny looked at her calculations with a smile, she didn't know if they were right, but at least she had attempted them.... then with her attention back at the board watching the other students finish their Pinnacles |
Gwen started thinking that what she did was totally wrong, so she decided that she could at least calculate the other stuff like everyone else did. Gwen's parchment: Quote:

Text Cut: CaptainSimon & William Waiting for the students to record their calculations, Josephina watched as the Gryffindor Captain went up to write first. Looking over his calculations, she was about to say something about the year, when he noticed it upon helping a young first year in his house with his own fourth pinnacle. "Yup. Better, Captain Bennett. Very good." Fina noted. "Why don't you go ahead and explain to the class now how to calculate this fourth pinnacle?" Quote:

Penny was a little surprised that Professor Hadley had noticed her working.. but pleased also... "Sure Professor..", then walked up to the board, taking her parchment up with her... Taking a piece of chalk she began to put her calculations on the board for the class to see.. Penny looked at the professor first when she had finished writing and spoke to the class.. "Well.. Uhm.. For the first pinnacle you have to add the month you were born to the date you were born..., taking a deep breath she continued.. "I was born on the fifth of May, so my pinnacle is calculated by adding (0+5)+(0+5), which equals 10....1+0=1.... So My First Pinnacle is Number 1, this means my primary goal will be to achieve autonomy, self-reliance, and individuality, so people who cross my path in a significant way are teachers who will help me move toward being independent". Taking another deep breath, Penny looked at the professor, hoping that what she had done was correct.. |
After hearing the professor saying that they would need the numbers, Rebecca decided to do hers. SPOILER!!: Rebecca's parchment Rebecca looked over her parchment, making sure everything was correct then decided t call over the professor, for a second opinion on the correctness of her answers. "Professor Hadley?" the girl said, raising her right hand high in the air. "Can you come check my answers, please?" |
Ok..How did I get to do something without willing AGAIN? Nice going, Gwen... So-what do I have to do? Ah, yes, the second Pinaccle... Gwen started writing on the board. One thing I don't get, she thought. How is it that I don't get what this stuff is all about, but manage to do it right? That's wierd!, she decided. Second Pinnacle = Day of Birth + Year of Birth 7th + 2062 => 7+2+0+6+2 =17 (1+7)=8 2nd Pinnacle= 8 'Ok...so, as we can see, the second Pinaccle is calculated this way, by adding the numbers from your day and the year of birth.', and, that's about it. What more could I say? |
Nika looked from the board to her own peice of parchment containing notes about the pinnacles. She heard professor Hadley say they had to know their life path number so she quickly began to scribble down her own. Quote:

"Three. . . " he muttered to himself. He turned around and flipped open his book to Chapter Twenty-Two. He double checked his formula and there it was, of course, the number three. Okay, it was time for Presley to calculate her own pinnacles! Now that she knew how, she was eager to begin. She pulled her parchement closer to her, and began. Quote:

Legend nodded as Hadley told him to hold on. His attention fell upon the parchment in front of him. Picking up his quill, Legend quickly began to work out his own Pinnacles, because he would probably need them. SPOILER!!: His Parchment As he gazed at his work he blinked. There were TWO fives. Was that even right? Legend doubled it. But he did double check. Quote:

I'd make a better explanation of this but I need to leave. :( How did she do it? ... Turning to the class, Iris looked around. This was, really, the first time she was talking to a load of students as Head Girl. It was weird. "Well... To find the third pinnacle, I needed to find the first two. There's two students finding those, so they'll explain how I found those." "My first pinnacle is a 6, and my second is a 1. So to find the third pinnacle, all I had to do was add them together to give me seven." She nodded a bit and looked at the professor, as if she were asking if that was a good enough explanation. |
Helena wasn't sure if she understood everything, but she tried to calculate her pinnacles anyway. SPOILER!!: Helena's notes She placed the quill on the desk and stared for a little bit at her notes. Did she calculate alright? |
Ness took out some parchment then did the work like everyone else. Quote:

Eino took extra time trying to wrap his little brain around all of this calculating madness. Well, the calculations were easy, the hard part was figuring out what to calculate. He had forgotten his life path number so he wanted to add that just to warm up his brain. When that was done it was time to move onto more challenging Arithmancy. After much struggling, head scratching, and parchment tearing, Eino finally thought he had successfully calculated all of his pinnacles. SPOILER!!: Parchment If he was right, then all of his pinnacles had passed away already. That was what they meant, right? He scratched his head again. Two when he was two years old, one when he was four, and one when he was six... There was no way he remembered that. He looked around the room nervously. Hopefully someone would let him know whether his calculations were right or not. |

Without a word of warning, Katie took a couple of small steps to close the gap between them and opened his textbook still in his hands, turning it open to the correct chapter and then began to flip through the pages until they were on the right one, where she pointed out the table. "I'll do the first part," She decided with a quick look over the material, the seventh year found a piece of chalk and began to write out the table on the board: __________________Pinnacle ____ Pinnacle ______ Pinnacle ______ Pinnacle ___________________Cycle ______ Cycle ________ Cycle ______ Cycle _________________runs from: ____ runs from: ____ runs from: ____ runs from: Your Life Path is 1: age 0 - 35 ___ age 35 - 44 ___ age 44 - 53 ___ age 53 > Your Life Path is 2: age 0 - 34 ___ age 34 - 43 ___ age 43 - 52 ___ age 52 > Your Life Path is 3: age 0 - 33 ___ age 33 - 42 ___ age 42 - 51 ___ age 51 > Your Life Path is 4: age 0 - 32 ___ age 32 - 41 ___ age 41 - 50 ___ age 50 > Your Life Path is 5: age 0 - 31 ___ age 31 - 40 ___ age 40 - 49 ___ age 49 > Katie stopped at life path number five, leaving the board half-complete and turned to hand the chalk over to Legend. "Want me to hold the book?" |
Quote:
Wait. How in the world did Katie even find that page. It was so strange. Legend frowned. HE could have found it too if it wasn't hidden in random spot. "Nope I can do it." As he tried to write everything in a neat way the page kept flipping to other things. "Alright you hold it." He mumbled, placing the book in her hands. __________________Pinnacle ____ Pinnacle ______ Pinnacle ______ Pinnacle ___________________Cycle ______ Cycle ________ Cycle ______ Cycle _________________runs from: ____ runs from: ____ runs from: ____ runs from: Your Life Path is 6: age 0 - 30 ___ age 30 - 39 ___ age 39 - 48 ___ age 48 > Your Life Path is 7: age 0 - 29 ___ age 29 - 38 ___ age 38 - 47 ___ age 47 > Your Life Path is 8: age 0 - 28 ___ age 28 - 37 ___ age 37 - 46 ___ age 46 > Your Life Path is 9: age 0 - 27 ___ age 27 - 36 ___ age 36 - 45 ___ age 45 > Your Life Path is 11: age 0 - 34 ___ age 34 - 43 ___ age 43 - 52 ___ age 52 > Your Life Path is 12: age 0 - 32 ___ age 32 - 41 ___ age 41 - 50 ___ age 50 > There done. Legend grinned as he finished the last bit of the chart. "Excellent working with you little Mae." Hopefully it was right and they hadn't messed everything up. It would be ten times worse if they had copied it wrong. |
Freed from detention! Woooot! *Jumps in to catch up* This aspirations things was a very confused one for Josh for he had no idea what he was going to do in the future. If one had asked him about a few weeks ago, he might have mentioned them two or three things...but now he just had no idea. None. Zero. So, probably that was the reason he had been so silent so far. Or he was just tired of the stuff he had lived through lately. He was feeling emotially tired. It was like his soul was tired of what had happened. Whatever... Eyeing the calculating Simon, Iris and the others were doing on the board and aroudn him in the class, the Gryffindor thought it would be good enough to distract himself from this not-so-nice thoughts if he had started calculating as well. Yes, that could work. So, grabbing his quill and pulling a parchment in front of him, the boy began working on his calculations. Quote:
*drops the quill* |
Picking up her quill, Vashti tapped the feather-end of it against her chin as she quietly watched some of the students calculate one of their pinnacle numbers on the board. Didn't look too hard to do. But apparently she needed her life path number as well which...was somewhere in her notes. She probably should have memorized it by now or something, but she hadn't. And she didn't really feel like looking for it either. Might take her the entire class period to find it, and what would be the point in having it then since class would be over? Simply recalculating it was much easier. So she dipped her quill in her ink bottle and began calculating in her notes. SPOILER!!: Vashti's parchment Hm... hopefully all that was right. Now just to see what it all meant. |
So far, so good. A slight smile appeared at his mumbling, once holding the book she made sure it was right-side up and turned so he could look at it if needed. One hand holding the bottom, her thumb preventing the pages to turn, her other hand at the top of the spine to keep it still as she watched him carefully finish the chart. Shifting his textbook, Katie closed it before offering it back. Wait - Little Mae? Had he just called her Little Mae? Not even Cub. Not Katie. Not Kaitlynnh. Little Mae! What, was he Tyson now?! Of ALL the things he could have called her in class.. perhaps she had thought too soon on 'so far, so good' with working together on a simple, little task. Her eyebrows raised, giving him a questioning look. "First I'm a girl, and now I'm Little Mae?" Katie didn't particularly care it wasn't the best time or place for a discussion, and SURE she was shorter than some, but he had called her LITTLE in front of the whole classroom and Professor Hadley. "I AM a young woman, Legend. Believe it or not, I'm not a little girl anymore." Sure, Ty still called her that. But he was also ten years older than her, and Legend was not. With that said, Katie turned around and went back to take her seat. Their task was complete. |

Katie was on a rant, as always. It was annoying. He had only called her a simple nickname. One that his older brother had given her about 10 years ago but still! Legend had only been joking. Katie, however was a living Dementor. Sucking the fun out of every moment of life. "Hmhm. That's a shame. You were more fun when you were a little girl." Even if she had been evil. All her fake crying and girl ways. As much as he hated to admit it, she had been easier to deal with then. Quote:
The Prefect found that, the Life Path Number was one of the easiest things to learn. "The Pinnacles is what Hadley is trying to teach now. Chapter 22 in your textbook. They are suppose to tell your greatest accomplishment, or something of that sort. With the Life Path Number and the Pinnacles together you'll be able to tell at what age will the specific important accomplishments happen." That was how he understood. Legend hoped he hadn't explained it wrong or too confusing. |
Kurumi watched as student performed their calculations on the board before returning to her parchment and jotted down the appropriate notes at the top of her page. This was her favorite part of the lesson: calculating. Honestly, who didn't think that numbers and calculations were the poetry of logical ideas and, dare she say it, even life? Simple really, and those who not believe that mathematics is so just do not realize how complicated life is. After all, the essence of Arithmancy is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple. Practically beaming, Kurumi picked up her quill and flashed a smile at Treyen who looked like he was about ready to check out. Giggling under her breath, Kurumi set to making her calculations and copying from her textbook the descriptions of each number. SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment Finishing her calculations, Kurumi sat back and looked at her parchment for a moment trying to make sense of it all. Which pinnacle was she in right now? She supposed that that would come with Professor Hadley's next words, so she sat back for now and glanced at Treyen who seemed to be struggling a bit. Giggling once more under her breath, Kurumi not-so-subtly pushed her paper towards him with her elbow and kept her gaze looking forward as her cheeks flushed a rosy pink. |

Sophie watched intently as each volunteer went up and wrote their calculations on the board. When all of them were done Professor Hadley tasked them to calculate their own pinnacles with the use of the life path number. Opening up her text book the lioness prefect calculated her life path number first. Content with the result she concentrated hard and began with the pinnacles that would prove a bigger challenge one that she couldn't do half-heartedly. SPOILER!!: Sophie's calculations Sophie finished her calculations and put her quill down, wiping away some small beads of sweat from her face. Taking up her quill again she copied off the description for each number. Done with her work she leaned back in her seat and waited as her peers around her still worked with their calculations. |
Simon looked at the Professor, this was so confusing, he had no idea what he had to do or how to do it, all he wanted to do was easy things like adding things together which would also have been more fun than trying to find out all this information. |
Savannah almost gagged as she looked at other people's caculations. She's sooooo comfused. Savannah slowly raised her hand. "Umm...I'm comfused professor." Savvy asked slowly, hoping that she doesn't look so stupid. |
Sarah watched as the others started their calculations. Some had already finished. She stared for while and then picked up her quill. She wrote the heading, Arithmancy Lesson #2 paused for a moment. Should I really do this? she thought. She looked at the professor, nodded and then continued. SPOILER!!: Sarah's Calculations When she finished her work, she dropped the quill and folded the parchment and continued looking at others. She then turned to the professor to tell her she was done. She raised her hand timidly, Sheesh! I'm so nervous! and said, "Professor, do you think mine is right?". She opened the parchment to show it. |
Penny re-did her pinnacles but this time did her life path number too.. Looking up at the board, she was very confused with the other calculations... Putting her hand in the air.."Professor, i'm sorry, but I don't understand what Katie and Legend have done there on the board" SPOILER!!: Life Path Number & Pinnacles |
SPOILER!!: Ari's calculations The pinnacles and life path number had been, so far, only numbers and calculations, but Ariadne was very interested in what they actually represented. Curious, as always, the first year Gryffindor raised her hand: 'Professor, what do we do after we have finished calculating? How do we interpret the numbers we obtained?' Probably a silly question, which older students knew everything about. |
Ariella recorded all of her calculations. She hoped they were right. SPOILER!!: Ariella's Calculations But what did all the numbers mean? Ariella flipped through her Arithmancy textbook, hoping to find some answers. |
Fallon decided to go about and do her own figurings while the people at the board demonstrated. She actually somewhat understood this class. And it was refreshing to be able to actually use it. She decided to do her life path number again because she couldn't remember it for the life of her. She opened her text book so she could write down the meaning as well. SPOILER!!: Life Path Number Fallon looked over the work, pretty satisfied with it. Now to the pinnacles. She turned the book to that page and started to work. SPOILER!!: Pinnacles Fallon looked at her calculations. She raised her hand, mainly because she was somewhat confused. "Professor, two of my pinnacles are the same. Did I do something wrong?" She hoped not. |
Scribbling out yet another few sums, Thea settled down her quill. This was hard for her.. she had never been the best at maths problems. Scratching her ear, Thea wrinkled her nose. Why was she still finding this hard?!?! |
The moment she was looking forward to during the arithmancy lessons. The calculations. All simple math logic, wasn't it? Of course it was. One didn't really even have to think about it, which was nice, and you just have to go with the flow with the numbers. Nothing really complicated about that at all. As the others went up to do the calculations on the board, she watched for a moment or so, before setting up her notebook, quill, and ink. The calculations she may like, but it was reading what they meant that got on her nerves sometimes. Especially that family number. Pffft. SPOILER!!: Evelyn's notebook |
Professor Hadly and Fallon. <3 Going back to her seat, Iris took her quill out of her hair. She'd already done three of them, and now only had one more to do. She opened her text book to the chapter with the pinnacle meanings, and took out the journal she'd kept all her important Arithmancy work in over the last 7 years. Going to a fresh page in the journal, Iris wrote down the heading, then quickly copied down the three pinnacles she already had. Once she'd done that, she then worked out the fourth pinnacle. SPOILER!!: Iris's journal page Finding that her fourth pinnacle was 8, Iris grinned. Nearly all done, eh? Looking up at the chart on the board, Iris then matched her Life Path Number up to the chart, to see how long she'd be guided by each pinnacle. After reading the chart, she adding these details to the top of her page. The Head Girl looked across the table to Fallon when she questioned her answers to Professor Hadley, and leaned over to look at the numbers Fallon had come up with. "Nuuu, that's right. You were born on the Sixth of the Sixth... Your second and fourth pinnacles will be the same." Iris smiled at her best friend, reassuringly. Fallon was way too smart to get the answers wrong! Especially with stuff this easy. "That might just means that you're not going to complete whatever you're supposed to do in the time of the second pinnacle, but you'll have time again to do that stuff when your in the fourth one." As odd as it might sound to some, Iris really believed in the things Arithmancy taught you. There was solid ground beneath the predicting; not like Divination. She flipped open the book and looked at the meanings. 2 was the number Fallon got twice, right? Reading over that meaning, Iris frowned a bit. Eh... it was a bit of a touchy one to suggest that she might not get it right the first time she's supposed to... Ahh well. Fallon could decide if Iris was talking sense or not for herself. Turning back to her own work, Iris ran her finger down the page until she found the meaning for a pinnacle of 6. Quote:
"Under a first 6 Pinnacle, young people will tend to marry too early" Reading and rereading that sentence, Iris blinked a couple of times. She always said she wanted a really big family, but the book worded it like marrying early was going to be a mistake! And besides, how could she marry too early? That was certainly something Aaron seemed to have no thoughts about... he seemed comfortable where they were now. Either way, the pinnacle was suggesting that she was most probably going to be married with kids before she turns 33... and being honest, The Head Girl wasn't sure if she wanted to be ecstatic or terrified by that. |

She sighed as she took out her book and opened it up. SPOILER!!: Nika's Parchment Nika reread her calculations before looking back up to her professor and raising her hand high in the air. OOC: I hope I got the year right... Haha, it's hard for me to keep track of it! Okay, this shouldn't be hard. Lucas had always been interested in Arithmancy and thought he was pretty good at it, too. He didn't have his life path number handy, so he decided to just throw that in with his pinnacle calculations. Quote:
SPOILER!!: Textbook Hmm, sounded pretty much like him. And he'd always sort of secretly wanted to be a writer... Well, anyway. Pinnacles. He looked up at the board to see what the examples were, then looked back at the textbook. Alright, seemed easy enough. Quote:
His second pinnacle would be from ages 33-42. That one would be one in which he learned to become more independent. Okay, a little scary, but really not a big deal, right? The third pinnacle would be from 42-51, and it would be full of "responsibility, duty, love, and family." Ooh, this one sounded pretty good. He liked the way this one sounded from the description in the textbook. The last pinnacle would be from age 51 on. Okay, what would the last stage of his life be like? Time to be a "recluse and loner." Wait, was he gonna be old alone? He didn't like the sound of that. Although being a scholarly hermit sounded like it could be kind of fun... Right? Okay, okay, keep reading, Lucas. Great wisdom, huh? He liked the sound of that. Oh, alright. As the last pinnacle, it was full of "spiritual refinement and development during a time of inner analysis and developing of knowledge, which can be eventually shared with others." Ooh, so he'd be like a wise old guy. Awesome. Hmm. Had he gotten ahead with the interpretations? There were other people doing them, so he guessed not. Well, alright. Cool. Pretty good life he had ahead of himself. |

It is this reason, you need your life path number for the pinnacle calculations, as depending on that core number, relates to the age bracket your pinnacle cycles fall under." She paused, giving them a moment or two to copy this down if they choose. "As you're all under the age of 27," or else you'd be out of Hogwarts, "Then you're all currently in first pinnacle cycle, regardless of your life path number." Anyway. This whole pinnacle thing was getting more and more difficut Oh, move on? Mooooore? Nope, no more questions. |
Since William's first number is 7, he hopes he is right. Wiliam raosed his hand. " I am not sure if this is right but my Pinnacle is 7, it says for me Perceptive, understanding and bright" Wiliam told the professor. " It also says I work hardlike challenges and am mysterious: Wiliam said to the professor." I coild also be pessimistic, sarcastic and an insecure" Wiliam explained to the professor. " I believe I am wrong" William sighed. |
thats what happens when you do maths and is half asleep >_< His head lowered back to his parchment when Professor Hadley pointed out the mistakes. Huh, wouldja lookit that, they were wrong.... he redid his calculations and took out a new parchment for the corrected parts.... SPOILER!!: Salander's parchment (corrected form) He glanced back up at the board where a chart was being drawn by Legend and another girl he didnt know. He tilted his head curiously as he tried to take that chart in. So his life path number was 6, therefore he will be on his first pinnacle until he reaches 30? He re-read the textbook description for 11... ok so he didnt have too much of an issue with being compellingly different-- thats something he accepted very early in his life given his father made it clear that he wont. But bearing a message to spread amongst the people.... to inspire them? To do what... to party? Sure! But if it was supposed to be something more profound he's gonna need a bit more clues as to what it was than numbers scribbled on the board. |

As she scanned her parchment, Kurumi realized that she had in fact made a calculation error. Merlin! "Oh! Thank you Professor Hadley," she chirped, blushing a bit and returning to her notes to scratch out the bits that was incorrect. SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment "Is that better?" she asked looking up from her parchment with a faint smile on her face. She wasn't sure that she liked one of the words in that description : different. She hated that word. Quote:
SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment With the added details of her age in relation with her four pinnacles, Kurumi set her quill down and glanced at Treyen for a moment. He was...unusually quiet today. Was something wrong? It certainly seemed like there was something on his mind. Kurumi smiled at him faintly before turning her eyes back to her own paper and biting her lower lip shyly. "If you want to talk...numbers....we can after class," Kurumi whispered, hoping that he was able to figure out that she wasn't exactly hoping to discuss pinnacles in the library. |
Penny was quietly pleased with her work...with her attention on the Professor, she heard the teacher ask if anyone had any questions..."No questions Professor". |
Text Cut: professor hadley! Looking up, Thea noticed Professor Hadley speaking to her. 'I just don't understand really, Professor!' Thea smiled. 'I've never really been that good with numbers.. maths.' She fiddled with her side ponytail a little. 'I've written down notes and everything tohugh!' She showed her the parchment, just incase she thought Thea was being lazy. |

Text Cut: Roderigo's Calculations Roderigo lowered his parchment and quill, and looked at his first pinnacle. He had gotten eleven, which he knew was a Master number. But that in itself confused him, and he raised his hand slowly as Professor Hadley asked if they had any questions. "Yes, Professor, I see that for my first pinnacle, I have calculated an eleven," he said. "I know that is a Master Number, but I don't quite understand something. The textbook says that the master number eleven can be reduced to the simpler pinnacle number, two. When does one make the decision to keep it as eleven, or to simplify it to two?" He lowered his hand as he finished asking his rather lengthy question. |

"So the first pinnacle says the formula is the month of birth + day of birth. January is 1, February is 2, March is 3, and so on. My birthday is April 2nd, for instance, so I would write as such," she wrote down on the parchment as follows: April 2"So my first pinnacle is six. And basically you just do this for the other three pinnacles as well, following the formula in the book." Quote:

Text Cut: professor hadley Breathing out, Thea nodded. Okay, maybe she shouldn't ask in future.. meep! She smiled at the Hufflepuff next to her and grabbed a new bit of parchment. 'Okay.. let's try this again.' She murmered to herself. Her tounge sticking out slightly, Thea got to work. Text Cut: thea's pinnacles. Settling down her quill, Thea chewed her lip. 'Professor?' She called softly. 'Is any of this correct?..' She sat with her hands in her lap as she waited for her work to be checked. Brushing her hand against her wand, she jumped as it emitted a few little purple sparks. 'You know how I feel..' she murmered quietly to it. |

This was why Simon didn't ask for help, the professor didn't understand he just didn't get it and no matter how many times she tried it just wasn't going to sink into his brain, well he had to at least try for the Professor since she had tried. Quote:

"Now the way to figure out which pinnacle cycle you're in is via your life path number. To which you find by adding together the month, day, and year you were born using the addition method of reducing first, then adding together." She paused, letting her write this down if she chooses to do so. "And then use the chart up at the board to figure out the ages of your pinnacle cycles depending on what your life path number is." |
Quote:
Looking down at her parchment she sighed, she was bad at this! Almost as bad as she was at flying.. but that was a different story. Pfft. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Hadley :) Staring down at his parchment, Josh blinked at the numbers a couple of times as a weird feeling...as if he was struggling to be awake hit him in a sudden. He was kinda...exausted...but this was not the struggle of keeping himself from falling asleep. It was like his vision was getting blurred and he did his best to keep it right...so keep himselg awake. Rubbing his eyes with a single hand, hoping that it would help his sight getting better, he picked up his quill again just to keep himself busy with...something. He needed to keep himself busy with something. Or at least he thought so. Hopefully, Professor Hadley's soft voice came to his ears providing him a bit of momentary distraction from the...odd and sick feeling. ''Thank you...'' he said smiling a bit and of course blinking repeatedly ''...professor.'' This was not working either. He had no idea what was going on but...whatever. Focus on the class instead!! See? He needed to deal with those interpretations and pinnacle duration chart. Dipping the quill into the ink well, he took a deep breath to keep himself collected before opening the textbook to write down the interpretations for his pinnacles and the age chart for them. Quote:
He knew he was going to die one day as everyone was but it definitely was NOT going to be when someone, anyone, had predicted it. He knew he was going to be 30, even leave that age behind, have a job and maybe a wife and kids. And mentioning wife, he could not help but automatically glance towards where Evelyn was sitting. Then realising what he was doing he turned back to staring at his parchment. If only that odd blurry sight would go away. |
Iris sat there, reading and re-reading her first pinnacle. Looking up, she raised her hand. "Professor... How... How accurate are the pinnacles supposed to be?" Yes. She just said it. For the first time ever, the Head Girl tried to doubt Arithmancy. Iris didn't want these pinnacles to be accurate... Mainly because of the early marriage thing, but also because of... well, because of the marriage thing. |
Ellie had long since tuned Hadley out. Pretty much since she had called for volunteers. And then they all went up and did far too much math for Ellie's taste. She was concentrating, though. On her parchment. She had, for some unknown reason, decided it would be a good idea to color her parchment black. With drops of ink. The fourth year dipped her quill into the ink, then let it hover over her parchment. Drip. Drip. Drip. And started over again. Sure, the ink got on the desk while she was doing the edges, but no one would ever really notice, right? And she was already on the third line. Maybe...just maybe she'd get the entire parchment covered by the end of class. Or at least half of it. Maybe. |
SPOILER!!: Life Path & Pinnacles Penny looked over her life path and pinnacles..now with the age times provided - This was such an interesting subject, she was enjoying this class very much, having finally found something she was good at.. |
SPOILER!!: Professor That was good news. He was beginning to wonder if he had already lived through all of his pinnacles and not even realized it. That would have been a bummer. He had to be born on the day and month with two master numbers. It was like he had been destined to be horrible at Arithmancy. He lazily flung his textbook open and flipped through the pages until he reached chapter twenty-two. The first number he wanted to check was his master number business he knew nearly nothing about. "In this Pinnacle, you possess a message to deliver to people and a desire to inspire those around you with that message." Ah, yes pogrebin awareness. He had always known he was destined to do that, too. He supposed dragon domesticating would have to wait until everyone in the whole and entire universe (and maybe in other universes, as well) was safe from the threat of pogrebins. He made of note of that, then copied other meanings he thought were relevant to him. Basically, just what he wanted to hear. No, no further questions. He shook his head. |
Quote:
"Third and fourth pinnacles though... We're adding for pinnacles." Subtraction was next. "So third pinnacle cycle, the formula used is the sum of your first and second pinnacle numbers. Or 6 plus 4. And your fourth pinnacle cycle, the formula is your month of birth plus your reduced total for your year of birth." Pausing again, she looked. "So 2060, reduces to 8. 8 plus 5 for May, would be 13, which reduces to 4. Life path number is a calculation that is completely separate from your Pinnacle Cycle calculations." Fourth year. So one and a half more years with Simon, providing he didn't take or pass his Arithmancy OWL. Quote:

"Ellie Stone!" Hadley exclaimed, putting one hand on her hip, as she walked over and stared down at the fourth year eagle. "What in the name of Merlin do you think you're doing?!" Yes. You best have a good explanation, young miss. You're delaying the class. |
" Thank you" Wiliam told the professor. |
Listening to what was being said, Simon wrote down the notes for the other three pinnacles and when he was ready, went to move on to do the other calculations to go with them. However he realized he should probably make note of his life path number to use that as well so flipping through his personal records he found the number in question. Seven...he mused looking up at the chart copied onto the board. Coping the dates matching up with it down into his notes on pinnacles, the seventh year went to work on the math calculations. SPOILER!!: first three pinnacles |
And this was the part she was a little fuzzy on. How to tell what years the pinnacles took place, yet with the chart on the board, it made a lot more sense. She had no questions on the pinnacles though, so she started to write down the age for each of her own on her parchment. Although, the sudden raise of voice from the Professor had the Slytherin actually started. Wha? WHAT!? No...no wait, she herself wasn't the one in trouble. Pffft, the Professor got her all worried for nothing! PFFFT! SPOILER!!: Evelyn's notebook |
Text Cut: Kurumi and her parchment He saw that! He noticed how Kurumi oh-so-purposefully placed the parchment in a way that it could be easily seen from where he sat. He chuckled. Treyen wasn't copying from her parchment. Not after he said he didn't do that. He still kept on trying to come up with the calculations by himself, and Quote:
Quote:
Treyen actually wondered what was written there, though. After being glared many times by the Slytherin girl, he decided to turn back to his parchment almost instantly, and kept on working on the oh-so-long calculations. SPOILER!!: Treyen's Parchment Was it all right, though? It probably was, he couldn't be THAT awful at math. After all, they weren't interpreting way too much. Quote:
Treyen still had a slight frown on his face from the Arithmancy work, and then smiled as Kurumi whispered something to him. Numbers? She surely meant just to talk, but disguised it because of Hadley, "Of course, Kurumi, after class," he said, and added a small wink. Quote:
And...she seemed to be doing NOTHING, Hadley. He raised his eyebrow at the Professor, because he was clearly confused as to what was going on. First Sierra, now Ellie? |
omg, my elementary mistakes come back to haunt me xD Quote:
Salander starts to scratch his head with his pen, watching the Professor explain his mistake "Ohhhh riiiight" he finally realizes his error. Hmm seems he's got a little too hasty with the number crunching. This is Arithmancy you doof, not the Kentucky Derby. SPOILER!!: Salander's parchment (corrected form) He took out another fresh parchment and corrected the third pinnacle. Looking up at the Professor he grins "Guess those 11s really like me." Nailing the Master Number twice. Imagine that. He still doesnt know what message he's supposed to inspire other with though other than Party Hearty. |
Quote:
Heh... "Making the parchment black...?" That was her goal at least. But...maybe it wasn't such a good idea? She looked back down at her parchment, and slowly dropped her quill into the inkwell, letting it rest. It could stay there for now. |
Quote:
This Ellie Stone, though, she had the right idea. Why do calculations when you can find another perfectly acceptable use of your time? It was also far less embarrassing than writing the name Treyen inside a heart and having the professor end up catching you... Quote:
Ohhh, get 'er, Hadley! Get 'er! Take off three blasted points like you did to me!!! Quote:
Cancel that. Take off five points! Gooo, Ellie, go! Arithmancy had suddenly just gotten loads more exciting. Now all they needed was for someone to shoot a parchment airplane across the room, and it'd all be perfect. |
Nika glanced up and saw that the charts for the ages had been put up so she quickly added the ages in on her parchment. SPOILER!!: Nika's Parchment |

"So. . ." he said slowly, "I'm much more likely to get 2 than to get the master number 11, right?" He think he understood what she was saying, but it was just now beginning to get over his head. He folded up his now filled up piece of parchment and stuffed it inside of his pocket. He was going to ask her another question but she suddenly seemed distracted by someone out in the seats. Quote:

OOC: Eep, sorry if this was way late haha. :) Quote:

SPOILER!!: Textbook Whoa, cool! He had a master number. Did that make him awesome? Well, actually, it kinda made him sound sort of weird. But that was okay, he guessed. "Hmm... Breaking it up did make it easier," he said to himself. He looked down at his calculation to make sure he hadn't made any more stupid mistakes (like calling October the eleventh month...). "Is this correct now, Professor?" he asked while she was still standing near him. |

Oakey tried his best to follow all the numbers on the board. His eyes were dizzying but he needed to crack down and really get to work. So without any further delay he put quill to parchment... SPOILER!!: Oakey's Parchment Oakey was glad he got the color changing Ink. He felt it made his work easier to follow...for himself at least. |
Ay, caramba. So much math. It almost made Sam's head spin right off. Anyway, he guessed he'd better get to calculatin'. Quote:

Catching up! :) Grinning with joy as Hadley was freaking out on someone else rather than him, he shot glances up from his parchment to the students in trouble in between problems. Arithmancy could be a bit dry sometimes, but at least Professor Hadley thought well enough of them that she included some entertainment for today's lesson. Now he had to get back to work if he wanted to finish these calculations: Quote:

Right then, it probably time to move on. "If you need to recheck your calculations, feel free to do so at the end, but for now we're going to move onto another number that tends to work hand-in-hand with the pinnacles. This calculation can be fairly confusing as well and a bit more advanced, so if you're younger and don't feel comfortable completing it just yet, then you're welcome to just take notes." She paused and glanced around the room quickly before continuing. "It is a number that you must not overcome, but rather indicative of what you should become. Does anyone know what this number is?" For all you bookworms out there who read ahead in the textbook... hehe |

Looking at his textbook he had no idea where to look so he just flipped it to the next chapter and shouted out the heading, hoping it was right. "Professor is it the The Expression/Destiny Number?" he said eagerly. |
Simon looked at the Professor. "Maybe the Destiny number?" Simon wasn't sure but he had to say something. |
Presley flipped over a few pages in her textbook, and quickly scanned. "The destiny number." she said confidently. Well, that was the first easy thing she'd done this whole class period. |

Huh, Destiny. Pffft. There shouldn't be a Destiny number. There shouldn't be ANY Destiny's! Destiny's were annoying! IRRITATING! "What about the Challenges number." she spoke up after raising her hand. All this talk about Destiny's had her slightly angry now. This was another reason she liked this class. Destiny didn't take it. |
Quote:
Destiny number? C'mooooooooooon! What had the professor asked did not sound like destiny, did it? Well, at least not to Josh so he just stared around at people who answered it as that destiny thing and his focus was all directed back on Hadley when she said it was incorrect as well. A predictive indicator. Related to the pinnacles and like the pinnacles. Hmmm. Should not be hard to find out. Taking a breath, the lion boy opened his textbook and simply stared at the next chapter after the Pinnacles one. Yeeeeees, this one was surely related to the pinnacles. Well...it was written there!!! ''The Challenges....'' so he said then quickly added ''...as it says here.'' since it was not from his own knowledge and he did not want to look like he was cheating when he was not doing that. Not at all. Yes again, he was a man of truth. Ooooh wait... Had Evelyn just beaten him to it? HAHAHAHAHHAHA. He really LOVED it when she did that... |
Quote:
Quote:
She raised her hand. "That'd be the Challenges..." |
hehe Quote:
Whoops! Riley looked at the other two students who had said the same answer as he had and wondered if they too had just flipped over to the next chapter and shouted out the first thing they had saw like he did. Oh well, he didn't have a clue what the answer would be then. He just sat there instead. Quote:
Quote:
Ugh...then another voice spoke up. Josh. Riley didn't forget the incident in the Library not one bit. He turned his smile from Evelyn and just stared at the other Gryffinfor boy for a moment before turning back and saying nothing. Whatever. He sort of wished that answer was wrong now. |

Glancing over to Josh once he answered right after her, she But, back to the lesson. "It's pretty much exactly how you calculate the pinnacles, what with the numbers you use, except you switch the two around and subtract them instead of adding them. Like, for the first number, instead of adding your month of birth with your day of birth, you subtract your day of birth from your month of birth." she said, right after raising her hand. At least, that's what was in the book. |
Penny was listening intently, she had just finished reading about The Challenges last night... Putting her hand in the air..."Professor, instead of adding the numbers in your date of birth, the Challenges are found by subtracting them |
