Arithmancy Lesson Three: Heart's Desire, First Vowel, Cornerstone, & Capstone
Spring had arrived; maybe not per the calendar days, but at least in the way of the Arithmancy classroom and therefore Josephina's mental state. The windows were cracked open to allow the floral aromas to infiltrate the room, but also it seemed your Arithmancy Professor has been practicing her charmwork, as there were bouquets of floral arrangements floating above you around the room.
There was even a large arrangement on the professor's desk and then a single carnation on each of the student's desks, charmed to when you sit down and claim that desk as yours, the flower will glow to your house color (Slytherin: glow silvery-white, Ravenclaw: glow blue, Hufflepuff: glow yellow; Gryffindor: glow red).
"Good morning!" Professor Hadley exclaimed, feeling rather chipper today for some reason. "Take a seat, relax for a few moments, and we'll begin shortly!"
ooc: Lesson will begin in approximately 12.5 hours; Hadley is here, even if I'm not, so don't do anything you wouldn't want her to see <3Lesson has begun; please pretend as though you've been there the whole time! <3

Marilyn stilled. Had that just been....?
Evelyn and Destiny?
She was tempted to glance back at the Slytherin duo...but did NOT want to chance seeing Caroline all over her ex like cheap Madam Malkin's robes. Hmm...
It'll have to wait until after class...Although, she had to wonder if Marie and Carter had told them what happened?

So...she had her book this time. It was there. In her bag. In case she NEEDED it. And, as much as Ellie hoped she wouldn't, she kinda hoped she would because otherwise, she'd have lugged the thing all the way here for NO reason. And what a waste that would be.
Her eyebrow shot up at the flowers, though. They seemed to be popping up in her life in the most unexpected places. Usually in bouquets, too. And now HADLEY had them?
Odd.
"Hey...Hadley." Mhm. She was a bit uncertain. Not of who she was addressing, but of the mood said person was in. Hadley was so obviously grumpy last lesson...this wouldn't be the same, would it? And Ellie wasn't making any promises to NOT get incredibly bored and doodle. It was just too difficult a promise to keep, given the subject.
The fourth year made her way to her usual center row, center column seat. Oh! A blue flower? Heh. Niiice.
Woulda been prettier purple, but blue was a close second.

She nearly flew right by the open door, but managed to put on the breaks quickly enough that she didn't, she did stumble and nearly lose her balance however. What greeted her was not the sort of classroom she had expected. In fact, she thought that she was back in Divination again due to all the flowers. What did Arithmancy and flowers have in common? Something to do with how many petals were on each blossom? It was probably best not to over think these things and just take her usual seat in the front.
"Good day, Professor Hadley," Kurumi smiled as she set her things down. Her eyes glanced at the empty seat next to her, the one that had always been occupied by Treyen for the past two and a half years. Would he come and sit by her again? Somehow, she thought that he wouldn't...not after what had happened...but Kurumi really wished and hoped that he would. Consistency...a sign that things were alright, well, as alright as they could be anyway...that is what she was hoping for.
Her smile fading just a bit, Kurumi sat down and was startled when the carnation in front of her began glowing red. "WOAH!" she chirped clapping her hands together softly. That was a neat trick.
Carnations...numbers...was there a connection?

Not that she didn't love her broom, but she always liked to look at new ones. It was a family thing they did every summer. But with her nose in her book she did not notice she knocked into Professor Hadley's desk. Her head shot up and looked her Professor in the eye. Laughing awkwardly she said, "Hello Professor... I'll just, um, take my seat then."
She kept her head down and sat in her seat. Looking down a carnation turned bright red and she looked around the room in shock to check if hers was the only one. But she saw Kurumi's did as well. Okay, this was interesting.

She walked into the classroom, rather sadly. She didn't want it to be her last ever Arithmancy lesson! Not even the pretty smells and flowers cheered her up. Iris was finally starting to accept that her time at Hogwarts was nearly up.
Trying to smile at Professor Hadley, Iris made her way to the front of the class. She dropped her bag on a seat on the front row and tried to look cheerful. "Mornin' Professor.... The classroom looks pretty today..." At least she had her NEWTs to look forward to. Well, that is assuming that Borr was going to reinstate them at the last minute.
She turned around and went to sit down at the table she'd just dropped her bag on. The blonde had taken out her journal and quills before she'd noticed the silvery-while carnation on the desk. ... What's this for? She wondered. Looking around, Iris saw that the other three students in the room also had coloured carnations on the desk. A Fellow Snake had a silvery-white one like her, and the two Lions had red ones. The glow on the flowers really was peculiar... and all of the other flowers on the empty desks were just regular carnations. No glow to those... Odd.

Nope, that was Professor Hadley. Now that he was sure he was in the right class he decided to take a seat. He chose one toward a back window. He loved anytime a Professor cracked the window.
As he sat down the flower on his desk started glowing red. He looked around wondering what was going on. It wasn't long before he realized it was glowing house colors.

It was like divination all over again. What's with the professors and flowers?
Either way Nika walked towards professor Hadley and gave her a cheerful smile. "Hiya Professor! I love what you did with the place." Hehe. Yes, flowers are good. She beamed as she walked towards an empty desk and set her stuff down on the floor. Nika plopped into her seat with a smile, even if Arithmancy wasn't her favorite subject. Maybe that's why she has all of these flowers around... Maybe flowers just put people in good moods!? Lafay should try them... Better yet Nika will give Lafay some flowers next term at the feast! Maybe then Lafay would be in a good mood for the rest of the term! That'd be like christmas over and over and over again. But still... It's Lafay so it probably wouldn't work. Hmph. Still she could try?
Nika pulled out a bajillion sheets of parchment and three quills. Yes, three. Arithmancy is a lot of work so she's going to need it all. As she looked up she let out a small gasp. GASP! "Woah." The flower turned red!? WHAAA? That's pretty awesome Hadley. You now have Nika's full attention.

However, the two of them never seemed to realize that they couldn't really get through the door arm in arm like this. It's not like Evelyn noticed either. She was walking straight through the doorway.

A spectacular day, indeed!
And just when she thought the day couldn't get any more spectacular, the class with one of her favorite Professor's came into view. She could smell the flowers from the corridor and just when she closed her eyes for another spectacular whiff of them..
BAM!
Evelyn decided to enter the classroom, and since the doorway was not big enough for the both of them, Destiny was the one walking into the wall. Again. But, even with the big lump that she felt forming on her forehead, the day was still spectacular.
Holding her forehead, she skipped her way into the classroom, trying to catch up to her BEST friend. "HELLO, PROFESSOR HADLEY!"
Blink.
Er... Destiny had decided to take Arithmancy again? Fina was sure the girl dropped the subject. But no wait, something more... was that the two sixth year she-snakes seemed to be back together?! When did this happen? Of course, Fina also knew that would happen too. They were teenage girls who had their own dramatics they were dealing with; of course fighting was inevitable, but nothing was more powerful than that of a true friend.
Excitable much too. Beaming at them as they took their seats in the back, Fina directed her attention at another sixth year now...

"Uh... Thanks Captain Blunt," blink, blink. Stare, stare. "You...you're ..." No, she couldn't say it. Time to start the lesson. "thank you." Yea, awkward much?

It didn't matter now though. Class was beginning. A class with something EASY. Which was nice, because she got slightly confused the last lesson. "The first vowel, cornerstone, and capstone numbers?" she asked, riiigghhht after raising her hand. Those were the numbers, right? Eh?

YAY! Easy numbers!! Nika did a sort of happy dance in her seat and looked up at the professor beaming. THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!! AHA!! Hadley Nika officially loves you. She could run up and give her professor a hug right now, but no. That would get a lot of weird stares so she's just gonna praise you from her seat. Nika had no idea what these numbers were but she kept smiling all goofy like. She blinked a few times and continued beaming. Best day eveeeerrr! She could sing. Hehe.
But wait! Hadley did ask a question didn't she!? And Nika does have a book doesn't she!? Flip, flip, flip. "Are they the cornerstone, capstone, and first vowel?" Okay well it was only a guess after skimming through the book, but still she chose to give it a try because she is ecstatic!

Agony.
The agony.
Sierra sat in Arithmancy class, wondering why she'd come to yet another lesson. Hadley clearly hated her. With a passion probably. She'd given her a three as an overall score in class one. A three! ...and then, she'd deducted three points the last class. Yes. Hatred. The woman clearly had it out for her.
Maybe if Sierra tried really hard, though, she could shoot for at least keeping her points this time. She was a mere three points away from beating Eino Uronrn and stealing away his second place win! She could do this!
...or not. She had no clue what the answer to the first question was. Okay, wild guess time. Actually, no. She only very slightly might remember this one. "First Vowel, Cornerstone, and Capstone," she said, her hand in the air.
"No..." Ellie answered. WHO would know that, really?
Kurumi, probably. But no one else actually read textbooks and remembered them and stuff.
Or Ravenclaws....or a bunch of people, apparently. Oh well. Hadley should just be pleased that the redhead still had her inkwell tightly sealed, in her bag with her parchment.

Easy? Yay!
Hmmm number calculations that deal with letters? "The first vowel, cornerstone and the capstone?" Helena suggested, with her hand raised. Just to be sure, she flipped through the pages of the textbook, and there was also the family name number. Maybe that one was one of the three professor Hadley was looking for?
Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia
Numbers that dealt with letters? Ohh, Vashti knew this, she did, but suddenly the names just wouldn't come to her. What were they, what were- Ohhh. Now she remembered.
"Is it the First Vowel, the Cornerstone, and the Capstone numbers?" she asked, raising her hand. Those were pretty easy from what she remembered reading. Didn't really involve a lot of calculations, if any. So yeah, definitely easy.

Kurumi looked at the still empty seat next to her as Professor Hadley began class. Where was Treyen? Kurumi should have known that he wouldn't have come to class since she was there. He was...avoiding her...
Kurumi glanced down at her textbook and stared at it blankly for several moments and completely tuned out what Professor Hadley had asked until Cookie Hater responded to it. First vowel, cornerstone, and capstone? Kurumi flipped through her textbook and scanned through the pages a bit looking for what the Slytherin had just mentioned. "Isn't the first vowel associated with ones Heart's Desire or Soul Urge Core Number?" Kurumi asked looking back up at Professor Hadley. "What happens if the calculation for this number is different from the first vowel number?"
Yep, thinking about things - or over thinking as he case may be - certainly was keeping her mind of other things.

Oh my Merlin... What now? Eino looked around the classroom, then down at his textbook. Were they allowed to take a peak or was that cheating? This is what he got for not studying. Okay. Focus, Eino. She was asking about letters and numbers and she wanted to know about some numbers... and some letters. Yeah, that summary didn't really help him. Unless... Oh, right! How could he have been so stupid and miss that! He raised his hand "Sometimes the letter 1 looks like the number l." Clearly, she was asking about which numbers and letters had the same energy, so if they looked the same, or similar, then they would have the same energy. Of course, 1 and L were the ones that resembled each other the most, thus they had the same amount of energy.

Though Professor Hadley had begun talking, starting the classi asking the first question, Josh was still staring at the direction where the two she-snakes Evelyn and Destiny sat together. And they looked pretty happy and content with themselves. Soooooooo, they were friends again. Heh. Josh knew they had always been friends though, that had just been a little break of misunderstanding obviously. Then, if they were happy, Josh was happy. So, smiling at their direction, the Gryffindor turned back to look at Hadley once she stopped talking. Eh...what was the question? He totally had missed it.
Yet, despite the fact that he had missed the question and had no idea what it was, he couldn't help but laugh when Ellie answered it with a clean and clear enough 'No'. It was actually surprising to see a Ravenclaw answering a question that way. Maybe not all of them became selfish book eaters.

A three! ...and then, she'd deducted three points the last class. Yes.

"Is it the First Vowel, the Cornerstone, and the Capstone numbers?" she asked, raising her hand. Those were pretty easy from what she remembered reading. Didn't really involve a lot of calculations, if any. So yeah, definitely easy.
"Yes, you're all quite correct as it is the first vowel, cornerstone and capstone numbers that I was referring to!" Hadley smiled, noting it'd been mostly Slytherins and Gryffindors who answered. Where were the Hufflepuffs? She could have sworn a few of them had taken a seat before she began...

"That is also true..." Fina said, unsure of where the third year eagle was leading with that comment.

Fina frowned for a brief moment as Kurumi seemed to look like a lost puppy the way she was eying the empty seat next to her. Who was missing? Oh! Prefect Lockhart! Where was he? He had been doing so well lately with the numbers too.
Oh right; she asked a question. "They're associated yes, but that doesn't mean they have to be the same. Sure they can be, but the first vowel will reveal something deeper than the Heart's Desire. It is in some regards, considered your soul vibration, as it reveals additional attributes such as creativity and determination."
While on the topic, now would probably be a good point to review the Heart's Desire Core Number. "Since it was brought up, before we move onto those three calculations mentioned by several classmates, let's take a few moments to review one of the core numbers that deals with the First Vowel. This is one of the core numbers, the heart's desire or soul urge number which is as in the name, your innermost desires; the dreams from the heart. It shows the general intention behind many of your actions." Giving the students a chance to write this down if they wanted, she paused a moment. "The influence of the Heart's Desire number can be seen everywhere in your life; from your future careers, friendships, relationships, and lifestyle."
"From what is the heart's desire number derived from? That is to say, how do we find this number?" For the older students, Hadley wouldn't be surprised if this knowledge was on the tip of their tongues.

Marilyn looked around before answering, a frown present...Everyone had changed. Would she be able to find her place in this school again? Running a hand through her hair, she simply decided to think about all that later.
"Professor, I believe it to be the "First Vowel" concept...Somewhat hidden, but strongly represented...A, E, I, O, U...and sometimes Y. Y is only considered if it has a free flowing sound in the name..."
How to find it, though...She couldn't quite remember.

After awhile of not having to deal with these core numbers, she had almost forgotten about them. Although, right now, she didn't really...care. Really. All these flowers, it was bad for her brain. "You can find it by assigning the appropriate number to each vowel in your full name before adding the reduced totals of each name first, then reduce that to a single digit." Unless, of course, what with the master numbers and all...
Then again, she had to think about that one for a moment. Didn't want to get that mixed up with the personality number or something. Meh.
All right, maybe I’ll have some luck at this lesson too, Gwen thought while grinning. I wonder if I should stop? Meh, she couldn’t help grinning… Nownow… the thinking part!, the girl thought as she listened to the Professor talk.
‘The Heart's Desire is derived from the vowels of one’s full name.’, the young Ravenclaw announced. Or at least I hope so… Noticing that her answer wasn’t so smart, she decided to add something: ‘Used vowel letters are A, E, I, O, U .All others are considered consonant. The letter Y is an exception in some cases.'Oh, NO! It’s going to be a problem! I have a Y in my name! Argh! Stupid name…

The heart's desire number? Helena knew this one!
"You have to assign the appropriate number to each vowel from your full name, then add the reduced total of each name, and then reduce that number again," she said after she raised her hand.
Yup, just as professor Hadley said earlier, it was simple. Something to do with the vowels, and then just reducing.
Emmaleigh carefully wrote down everything Professor Hadley said. Even if she didn't understand it now, the notes would help later. At the question, she paused in her writing. Raising her hand she said, "Don't you assign a certain number to each vowel?" She thought she had read something about that. "But what do you do with the letter 'Y?'" she asked.

Remembering something else, Marilyn raised her hand again...
"I also remember some debates about whether or not to use the letter W as a vowel...What is your take on this, Professor?"

Ness thought for a while, it was actually pretty simple. She raised her hand and waited her turn. "Well Proffessor, wouldn't yu just add all the vowels in your name in your name?" said Ness hoping she was atleast on the right track. She was never really that good when it came Arithmancy, which Ness didn't really get seeing as she was pretty good at mathematics. Ness listened to what the others had to say, then waited for the lesson to continue.
Apparently, they added the vowels to find out their heart's desire number. Good thing Eino didn't have any Y's or W's in his name, those seemed to be problematic. So all he had to do was add the vowels in his name? E IN OU R O N E N, so six? That was it? That was easy. He flipped his textbook open and began reading the description for the number six. "Three things most important to you are beauty, harmony, and home..." Those were not the three most important things to him. Unless, they were going to become the most important things to him. He was confused already. Maybe he had made a mistake. He couldn't question divination, though. If that was his destiny, he had to accept it. At least he was going to be beautiful.
