As the Fall weather in Britain was still comfortable outside, Professor Hadley had cracked the windows open a bit to allow a lovely September breeze into the classroom before double checking the room setup: Several neat rows, with desks pushed together in pairs.
Once the room was set up in a way she was somewhat satisfied, Fina resumed her customary seat at the front of the room, using her wand to flick the door open. And then another wand flick on the front board:
Please take your seats and take out your textbooks, quill and parchment.
We will begin shortly.
All she needed now was students.
ooc: Lesson will officially begin in a couple hours. Remember that even if I'm not here, Hadley still is, so don't do anything you wouldn't want her to see. Lesson has begun. Any posts from now on stating about arrival WILL be punished accordingly, so please simply pretend as though you've been there all along (for your own benefit and your house)
Hmm. "If there are no further questions, then I'll distribute the homework..." she said, hazel eyes sweeping the room for more confused faces, or hopefully now understood.
Gavin thought he understood pretty well where the professor was going. He did his sentence and did get a thumb up from her after all.
He waited patiently, his quill over his parchment to write down the assignment.
Hmm. "If there are no further questions, then I'll distribute the homework..." she said, hazel eyes sweeping the room for more confused faces, or hopefully now understood.
Wisteria felt a little better now that she knew the concept better. There were things she definitely needed to pay attention more when it came to the numbers, but that wasn't anything that her notes and her book couldn't help with.
She was ready for the homework determined, to make up for better effort.
Now's the time when Professor Hadley was both flattered and simultaneously wanted to go hide under her professor desk. "I... Miss Stone... I... those calculations are..." She had nothing to add. "Perfect. Yes. I wouldn't change a thing." Smile sliding onto her face, she slid over toward the next student's work.
Bwaha.
So Ellie DID learn things in Hadley's class. Greeks were obnoxious and Hadley liked suck ups. Mannnn.
BEAM.
Oh and, "Ellie." They established that last term, no? Just Ellie.

Yay! Class was almost over! Viola thought that this was the worst lesson. Ever. She was soo bad at Arithmancy and wondered why she even took this class. Gosh, how can I do my homework when I didn't understand a word of what went on in class, she thought as she tapped her pencil on the desk. She definitely had to visit the library soon.

Not out of boredom, but out of annoyance. She didn't understand the point of the lesson, and didn't really want to ask that out loud just in case the Professor took it the wrong way. Meh. The homework would be nice to get now though. Although, how one could give homework on something that was pointless pretty much was beyond her.

Contented, she listened to the questions the other students had, and to the professor's response to them. She had nothing else to ask for now.
Homework. Zara smiled, not knowing whether to be excited for homework or dreading it. Then she finally decided she wanted to have it. She's been so bored lately, she visited all the interesting places she could think of for now, and conversations weren't really something she was particularly excited about. Having homework once in a while would probably be a good way to spend her time on something new, besides making piano compositions at the library as she took reference to some books.
So, what was the homework, exactly?

Seeing that most of the students seemed more than ready for the homework assignment, and perhaps to get out an enjoy the fresh air, Josephina was just about to flick her wand at the board with a fresh writing of the assignment when she heard something she did NOT expect to hear near the end of her lesson.

But numbers have power, thanks man named Pythagoras!

Suddenly she remembered recomendation to practice this by taking five words synonymous with who you are and translating them to a number equivalent. Indeed, how could differ essentially the same things!
Just I have realized - changing, being have changed realy in the world with word; and it would be ONLY for the better.
"Arithmancy with the Pythagorean Number System are interesting very much for me",- Anasta Riddle nodded Professor Hadley og audience, being harmonious and concentrated on the Arithmancy in this Classroom.
Good morning, Professor Hadley? Was that some kind of joke? Hazel eyes flickering in the direction of the voice, she blinked a few times to make sure they were not playing tricks on her. And they weren't. A young Slytherin REALLY had just decided to enter her classroom and make herself comfortable RIGHT AT THE END of her lesson.
"Miss Riddle, while I do appreciate your contributions," They were enlightening and accurate mostly. "Your tardiness has not gone unnoticed. 15 points from Slytherin." Perhaps a bit steep per her usual lateness point deductions, but she's also never had students show up this late either and announcing their late arrival with a sense of confidence.

Er, Hadley, right.
He had totally thought out an answer for that question, but then...there was a reason behind the question, yes? What if Hadley made him stay and turn a thousand ridiculously long phrases into numbeeeeers?!
At the realization of what could happen he decided to think before speaking, unlike what he'd done earlier, but he cleared his throat first and shifted in his seat a little, "Actually...," he started to say, "...not really, no, I was only wondering," the boy shrugged his shoulders lightly, as if the question hadn't been that important to begin with.
It was obvious that the next time Hadley asked for questions...he didn't even blink.
That settled, back to the homework. But first, a couple more students had comments to add; the male Hufflepuff Prefect included on that. But no, it seemed he had no problems with a lesson on symbolism. Satisfied with his answer, Fina turned toward one last calculation check - for this lesson, at least.

"oooh , Professor! i have a cool number!" Daichi said excitedly while pointing at the number 88. Why did he even find it a cool number? Because it had two the same? He didn't know but he thought it was cool , teehee.
But..wait... these numbers had no meaning what so ever?! O_o Why did they even calculate them!? Daichi wanted to have a cool meaning that fitted him and now the Professor said they had no meaning? pffffft!
Daichi placed his quill down on his desk with a sigh. So all that HARD thinking had been for nothing.Well, not for nothing, he now knew how to calculate them ...but still! he wanted a meaning. *pout*
"No questions , Professor.." Daichi said , the pout still on his lips as he crossed his arms.
Glancing at the boy who exclaimed something of a 'cool number, she smiled in amusement before nodding at him when he went on about how he had no further questions. Excellent; seeing as the students were all squared away, time to assign the homework.
"The homework will be may submitted to myself anytime before finals week," Hadley explained, before using a duplicating charm for the assignment to appear on the board:

* Worth 10 points, but opportunity for extra credit points for OUTSTANDING efforts.
* Due by Finals Week, so you have some time to think on this assignment since it will be time consuming and should take some creativity/effort with regards to word usage =)
* Follow all Arithmancy homework submission guidelines found in my announcements thread

Listening in, Jamie let out an audible grumble when a Slytherin lost fifteen points. WHY? Why... if you're late, then don't show up at all and lose the points. Stupid people. Hmpth..
Anyway... what? Class was over already?
The boy frowned. Yes, homework was expected, but poem writing? Jamie was about as creatively poetic as a stuffed animal. He was certainly glad that it wasn't due straight away, because he would need a very long time to come up with six lines of pure poem. After jotting the homework scruffily in his notebook, the third year got his stuff and went for the door. "See ya, Professor." He said, before taking a mint from her, then leaving.

At last! Enjoyable lesson? Viola hadn't enjoyed it one bit. She looked at the board and immediately started freaking out. Write a poem!? Okay. Uuhh! Now, she just wanted to get out of this room. She hastily noted down the homework and packed her bag. She got up and started to walk towards the door. "Thank you, Professor." Viola smiled at her, although it must have looked like a grimace and walked out the door.

Awww it was over? Already?
But anyway, it was a lovely lesson. And the homework... may be submitted anytime before the finals? Seriously?
Then, Helena stared at the board. And stared. And STARED.
...
A poem?! NO! Helena was NOT good at this! No poems! Please! She could see NOW why they had so much time.
After writing down the TERRIBLE homework, Helena stood up quickly and walked towards the door, but didn't leave before she smiled at professor Hadley. "Goodbye," she said and... poof! She was gone, probably to the library to start writing that poem.

Okay so maybe it may have taken her the whole class to correct her calculations. And perhaps they were getting dismissed now, but she DID finish in the end right? That's what counts. She packed up her things and ran to the door with parchment in hand. "Professor, I finally finished redoing my calculations. I hope they are right this time." She held out her parchment for her professor to check over her work.

Wait. What?!
Slytherin got a a fifteen point deduction for one student being late?! You'd think the whole house had been late, but no, it'd been some Riddle girl Sierra had never even met before. She frowned and glared in no one's particular direction. Completely annoyed, she shoved her book, parchment, and quill into her bag and then made way for the door. She didn't bother with goodbyes or even taking a peppermint. She did, at least, have her homework stashed away somewhere in her bag. She'd take care of it later, along with the Ancient Runes homework she also had.
With a soft sigh to herself, Sierra edged out the door and made her way back to the common room.
Charlie packed up her books, quill and parchment into her bag and stood up to leave, grateful that she wasn't in Slytherin and didn't lose all those points. The homework sounded pretty difficult but they had plenty of time to do it. Charlie smiled to the teacher and said, "Goodbye Professor," before exiting the class.

Contrary to the looks on the faces of the other students, Theodore felt perfectly at ease. Numbers were fun for the studious Ravenclaw, and this class sounded like it would be one of his favorites. Quickly, he wrote down Hadley's explanation of paragrams in his arithmancy notebook.
SPOILER!!: Notebook
Paragrams: pertain to symmetry
i.e. poetry with all lines having the same sum, construction of parallel stanzas
Folding his hands together, he set them on his lap as he looked around aimlessly, waiting for the next instructions and the homework assignment to be announced.

Noticing yet another error in her work, Rebecca crossed out the error and put the correct answer next to it. Then she recalculated the total, crossed out the wrong one, and wrote the correct answer next to it.
"Professor," Rebecca started. "I'm wondering, if the lines have the same sum but not the same numbers or length, are they still parallel?" The first year wanted to learn everything she could so that she could pass her tests and exams.
"Professor Hadley," Rebecca started. "On the homework, do we have to reduce?"

There! He was saved! Treyen didn't have to stay at the end of the lesson to practice with more sentences. AWESOME!
He was now...a happy Badger.
It didn't matter that he felt like he was going to die in the middle of the homework, because it may take a whole lot of time to finish it, but he was just immensely glad that he was free to go, and no points lost on behalf of Hufflepuffs, right? All was well.
"Thanks, Professor Hadley!" he said, rather cheerfully, after making sure his bag had everything belonging to him. "See you around," and it was oh-so-obvious he was taking one of those mints at the door, before finally leaving the classroom.

The remaining tension in Kurumi's shoulders eased even more as Professor Hadley addressed her concern. Phew, it had just been for practicing calculations. That certainly made Kurumi feel so much better.
Now...Professor Hadley could remove her work from the board, yes? Kurumi was still pretty sure she felt Sierra's eyes drilling through the back of her head.
Kurumi's cheeks flushed a deep pink again when Treyen winked and GRIIIIIIIIIIINED and she found herself bowing her head...perhaps a little too much....in thanks.

"Thank you for the lesson, Professor Hadley," Kurumi smiled with a slight bow. Even if the woman had embarrassed her thoroughly enough to last her the rest of the year. What? Did Hadley just take fifteen points from Slytherin? From THAT Slytherin?
Not that it'd make any difference if it was that Slytherin or not since she didn't know the girl, but it annoyed Evelyn even further. Hmph. Looking up to the ceiling, she huffed a sighed before looking back to the Professor once she gave the homework. Writing it quickly down in her notebook, the sixth year packed her bag and stood up, walking over to the door. However, she paused just by it to wait for Josh...and to glare at Destiny.
...And to take a mint. Thank Merlin it wasn't chocolate. She may have accidentally dumped the bowl and accidentally kicked it around and stepped on them while trying to pick them up. Totally by accident of course. "Have a nice day professor Hadley."
Olivia smiled, thinking she had finally got a hang of the lesson for the day. She hung back slightly before approaching Professor Hadley's desk a bit shyly. She hadn't quite gotten the chance to properly thank her for helping earlier on in the lesson. "Have a good afternoon, Professor. And thank you again for helping me before. I really don't know how I missed you tellling us where that chart was." Olivia felt quite silly about that still. "Good bye!" She nodded respectfully with another smile before leaving the room, almost looking forward to the homework. How she loved understanding things.

Thank Merlin! Destiny didn't think her brain was going to be able to take anymore number calculations. It was actually throbbing. She could feel it! Was that even normal? Perhaps a trip to the Healer was in order? But..she hated going there. Meh. She'd just deal with it.
Quickly packing up her stuff, just in case Professor Hadley decided to change her mind and make everyone who had parchment left on their desk stay, she stood and headed towards the door. She didn't get very far, though, not with Evelyn blocking her way. Pffft. Letting out a frustrated breath, not because she was trying to get to the mints that were now dirty and half crushed, but because she wanted to LEAVE, Destiny gave her EX-best friend a hard nudge with her hip hoping she would fall over and pushed her way passed.
"Goodbye, Professor Hadley!"

* Remember to use the Pythagorean Number System, as found in chapter two of the textbook, to add up the values of each line. You might need to tweak certain words/grammar in order to get the desired symmetry, but there should be some sort of pattern in the numerical value of each line.
Lame Example:
ALL HOUSES ARE GREAT (70)
PROVIDING YOU WITH FUN (114)
READ A BOOK; DON'T BE LATE (70)
As you can see, the first and third lines have equivalent numerical values. They happen to rhyme too, but that isn't really necessary (more of an added bonus)
* Minimum 6 lines recommended
Moving toward the door, as she set a basket of peppermints for them to take one (or a couple) on their way out. "Thank you all for an enjoyable lesson and class dismissed." Until next time, at least.
Tayla nodded. The homework seemed daunting, but she wanted to earn points for Gryffindor. Hopefully, she'll earn more than 10.
"Thank you, Professor Hadley."
Packing her school things back in her bag, she stood up, took a peppermint, and went to straight to the Gryffindor Tower. She wanted to start her homework right away. Finals week may come in no time.
"Thanks for a great class Professor Hadley!" Kyle waved, smiling as she collected her things. The girl's french accent thick as her gran's impossible glue-like split-pea soup.

Really, just as she spoke her farewell to Hadley, and was about to pop the mint into her mouth was there a sudden bump against her causing her to take a few stumbling steps to the side. Excuse YOU Mr/Mrs. in a hurry!
Pffft.
Adjusting the bag on her shoulder, she raised up another mint and MAY have flicked it at Destiny's head. That was a total accident of course. It SLIPPED out of her hand towards the Slytherin's head. It had a mind of it's own! Yea...goodbye Destiny. It was too bad you weren't leaving the SCHOOL though. Grumbling, she did took a deep breath and smirked. Hehe.

Nodding as some of the students thanked her for a good lesson, while others seemed content to just slip out unnoticed, Josephina looked toward a first year and her question on the homework.

Now, now, wasn't she paying attention to ANYTHING this whole lesson? "Just like in class, I don't want to see any reductions. It's not necessary and defeats the whole purpose for the poetry."

She held out her parchment for her professor to check over her work.

Checking over the second year's calculations one last time (for the lesson at least), Fina nodded, satisfied. "Yes, much better." Mmhm.
