Default Arithmancy Lesson One: Paragrams {Pythagorean-style}

As the Fall weather in Britain was still comfortable outside, Professor Hadley had cracked the windows open a bit to allow a lovely September breeze into the classroom before double checking the room setup: Several neat rows, with desks pushed together in pairs.

Once the room was set up in a way she was somewhat satisfied, Fina resumed her customary seat at the front of the room, using her wand to flick the door open. And then another wand flick on the front board:
Please take your seats and take out your textbooks, quill and parchment.
We will begin shortly.
All she needed now was students.

ooc: Lesson will officially begin in a couple hours. Remember that even if I'm not here, Hadley still is, so don't do anything you wouldn't want her to see.
Lesson has begun. Any posts from now on stating about arrival WILL be punished accordingly, so please simply pretend as though you've been there all along (for your own benefit and your house)

She hadn't even noticed she'd been staring over the Gryffindor Captain's parchment for like five minutes without saying anything.

"Good, good, except... no wait... You've miscalculated captain and bookworm, I think...." She said staring again at the seventh year's parchment, before moving onward.

Hearing a question from a rather tall boy, the one with striking familiarity to Sierra, she nodded. "That would be correct, punctuation marks don't carry any number values..." Huh? Wait, a second, Sierra described herself as a twin, did she? "Greingoth..." Yea, she was slow. Or she just lacked coffee in her caffeine system. "You. You're related, aren't you?" And way for her to not speak in complete sentences.

Right, moving on. "Yes, dear, that's good." Very good, indeed. But by seventh year, hopeful their mistakes in calculations would be less frequent.

Tossing a small comforting smile at the young Slytherin who seemed embarrassed, she hoped she wouldn't be. Mistakes did happen, after all.

Was it just her or did Kurumi seem ODDLY SHY about her work being shared in front of the whole class?! OH wait, perhaps she should have asked the thirteen year old, but she didn't think it would be an issue. Who didn't like to have their work showcased after all? Other than herself when she was that age.

"Nice job again, dear," Fina said, quickly moving on. No need to add more pressure to the girl by lingering over work.

Moving on to a Ravenclaw, who like another one, liked to use the same word in the chosen sentence. Eh, whatever, she hadn't said they couldn't... BUT what? "Um dear, your second Romeo there, you've missed a digit." Surely the girl would notice, right? She seemed adept enough.

Now's the time when Professor Hadley was both flattered and simultaneously wanted to go hide under her professor desk. "I... Miss Stone... I... those calculations are..." She had nothing to add. "Perfect. Yes. I wouldn't change a thing." Smile sliding onto her face, she slid over toward the next student's work.

"Same for you..." She said, in acknowledgement of another unfamiliar boy's work. "Good work." Short and sweet, but it was a good way to learn.

Was Evelyn no longer going by her best friend's surname? Had the inseparable pair had a falling out over the summer? Noticing the looks Destiny kept giving toward Evelyn, Fina was sure it was something similar.

And then the phrase. Oh there was definitely something going on between the two and it was probably over something petty like chocolate too.

But now wasn't the time for personal vendettas. "Nice work, Evelyn." Yup, yup. The Slytherin was accurate with her numbers.

Huh? The Ravenclaw couldn't get ROMEO right but these long sentences she got right? "Nice job this time. Just correct your previous sentence and you're all set."

Hearing a young female voice and a question, Hadley peeked over at the parchment in question and studied it for a moment. "Um... yes... and no... I've asked you to specifically not reduce, because with paragraphs, reducing to a single digit is not important, nor is it necessary. With writing a paragraph, you'll see that it comes to what the numerical values of each sentence is that matters most." Hadley started. "So with your sentence, you'll want to go back and add the values for each word without any single-digit reduction." Please, it was the only time they didn't have to reduce. They should take advantage of it.

And again, the girl was quite on top of her numbers. "Nice job, once more," Fina nodded at the seventh year.

SPOILER!!: Hufflepuff Prefects

"Yes my dears, you're both very careful with those numbers, which has paid off." Fina nodded at the pair of Badger Prefects. "Nice work to both of you." And nice statement, Lockhart .

Stopping at the next student's parchment, Josephina was pleased to see he got the addition part correct... but... "Um dear, you've forgot to practice adding the total value of each of those five words there." Yup, yup. Simple mistake. No worries though; it probably wouldn't take him long to do given his awesome calculation abilities.

Noticing the Slytherin nearby had crossed out his sentence calculations, she tilted her head as she looked it over again. "Um... You've missed another digit. A 9 from the 'R' in dream," Hadley nodded at the boy. Other than that, he was good.

Noticing the look on the adorable first year puffs face, Fina walked over and studied his parchment, shaking her head. "It looks correct to me, but one thing though, with your sentence... if when writing an actual paragram, you'll want the numbers to equate better, you might need to add the 'g' on feel'" She suggested. Maybe, maybe not. Depends.

Looking toward the girl who called her name, Josephina glanced over the girl's work. "Almost... except for curious, you've miscalculated, as well as missed a digit for the phrase 'i need to study'" Perhaps prevalent to the fact that the girl needed to?

Looking over yet another Gryffindor first year's work, Josephina was impressed with how almost accurate they seemed to be. "Close, but you've missed the first 'L' in Baseball Player, so your calculation is off by that one digit." Hadley nodded, before turning to the previous said-counterpart-to-Evelyn.

Staring at the girl's parchment, Josephina was now FULLY convinced that something happened between the pair. But her work was correct so personal issues she would have to sort out later....maybe. As long as they didn't bring it to her lesson, she was good.

"Nice job," Hadley complimented of the sixth year.

Long sentence coming up next, in which Josephina totally needed a double-take on her own mental calculations. "Very nice," she complimented, clearly impressed. These kids were actually pretty decent with their basic math skills.

Except for minor errors. "You've added the value of the word 'are' twice in that sentence, dear boy," she commented, smiling lightly and hoping to not startle him terribly much.

Staring at the next Slytherin's work, Josephina shook her head slowly. "Almost, but you've miscalculated 'Daichi' and didn't add up the final value for 'Duck'." She paused contemplatively. "Oh and make sure you add up the final total for that sentences as well," Fina said, smiling at the boy. Not a bad sentence.

Checking over the next boy's work, Josephina couldn't help but notice there were quite a few of the male gender in Arithmancy this term; not that it mattered terribly much but just an observation. "Nice work," Hadley said of the older Claw, as she moved on to the next.

The next student, however, didn't seem to understand this AT ALL. "Um dear... I'm not sure what number system you're using to change your letters to numbers, but you'll need to take a look over most of your changes and compare it up with the chart found in chapter two of your textbook." Because like ALL her word to number value calculations were wong.

"You've got it," Hadley said, complimenting the next girl, wondering if it was just her or there were more students this year than last? Hmm... She shouldn't complain.

Stopping at yet another Slytherin, she frowned. "Almost, dear, almost. BUT the 'Y' in Slytherin should be a 7, not an 8...." Fina said quietly. Subtle differences that could make a difference.

Looking over toward a Hufflepuff that Hadley was fairly certain she'd seen him once or twice before, she looked over as he AVERAGED out his words. Blink, blink. "Um... You're supposed to add up the numbers in each word, not average all the word values together. For instance, the word ship would sum 25 if you add up each of those four digits," Hadley nodded, hoping he maybe semi-understood now.

Before attending to a Ravenclaw that was calling to her for assistants, Hadley glanced quickly over at a young Lioness and gave her a quick thumbs up of acknowledgement.

"In your textbooks, if you flip to chapter two, you'll see a chart in which are the numbers associated with each letter of the alphabet." Hadley explained. "So you take a word, we'll say, 'book' and figure out which numbers are associated with those letters."
She wrote it out on the girl's parchment:
B-O-O-K
2-6-6-2
2+6+6+2 =16
"As you can see, by summing each of the values of the letters, we can an answer of 16, which is the numerical value associated with the word book." She nodded, encouraging the girl to move on and write her own words.

"Perfect," Hadley said, nodding at the next girl, another young Hufflepuff. Clearly their prefects were setting good examples.

Nodding at the next girl, she smiled at her statement. "Nice job."

What was with the lack of confidence in Slytherins this year? Staring at the boy's work, she shook her head. "Quite the opposite actually," Fina mused. "You're quite good at this."

Giving a thumbs up toward the next kid, Josephina made her way toward another Slytherin who seemed to having troubles...Maybe

But he was HAPPY about his troubles? Shaking her head, she smiled, "I think... you should double-check your calculation for that long sentence." Fina commented honestly enough.

Master of everything, eh, Carter? Raising an eyebrow at him curiously, she shook her head. "Doubtful on the statement, but that's besides the point....I think, you should double-check that calculation of your house value." Yup, yup. Do it.

"You're doing good!" Hadley said, smiling at the girl who had taken some rather extensive notes. "Don't give up now!" She encouraged.

Mmm... "Close, but I think you should double-check your calculations for your last two statements. Including the letter to number conversions," Fina said, commenting about the second year's work. She was sure that Nika would figure out her mistakes.

"Nice job," she said, as she noticed the other girl from before had continued with her work.

"See! I told you that you could do it!" Hadley said, smiling at the young Gryffindor with the look of a proud parent.

Frowning at the next girl, who insisted on reducing, she shook her head. "I said NO reducing to a single digit... And um... I think you've miscalculated anyhow." Yup, yup. Go, double-check. Do it.

Ending her current rounds back where she started with the Gryffindor Captain, Fina smiled as he seemed to have figured out the sentence thing, even if he miscalculated before. "Nice job," she commented lightly, before returning to address the rest of the class.

"Most of you are figuring this out. If you've done a statement already and don't want to attempt another, just sit tight for a few more moments... We'll be continuing shortly." Hadley said, quickly before returning to her rounds.

OOC: Yea, this reply took longer than expected and my shift is rounding to a close. I'll finishing replying to the rest of you IN A LITTLE WHILE and then continue on with the lesson. SOORRRYY ABOUT THAT!!! <333

Zara smiled at the professor. She had been overworking herself as a prof, checking all the students' works. But it was her job, maybe. Still, it took a lot of effort to double check on all those works one by one with her head still in one piece. Zara's mind would've exploded, just doing 5 sentences. She shrugged the thought off, the professor was truly brilliant.

"Thank you, professor!" She smiled cheerfully at her encouraging comments. She was kind. Not scary, not using a chainsaw, not furious at anyone who makes mistakes, and not turning anyone's uniforms into viking costumes. Zara grinned to herself. Finally, a normal professor.

Yes, thank you, Hadley.

They could rest now, right? Like...after all those numbers...the class HAD to be over, no?

OH.

The class will be continuing shortly. The boy blinked, before leaning back on his chair. There was no way he will do another sentence, he'd rather rest before they entered the next part of the lesson. Which will probably have something to do about WHAT do those numbers mean? Probably? No?

Oh, look, Sierra was in this class too. Alex had been so absorbed in his calculations, he hadn't even noticed. Not that he cared, of course. He was still pretending that she didn't exist because she'd be SUPER RUDE to him in the courtyard. While he obviously wasn't as angry as he had been that day, he was still annoyed and hurt by his sister and therefore, was pretending she just didn't exist and it was working VERY nicely for him.

He glared at her direction, then crossed his arms and looked back to the professor. "Yes. We're twins," he said simply. There. He'd answered her question.

He looked back at his paper, unsure of what to do now. He just scanned his calculations and made sure they were correct as he waited for Hadley to continue.

Wisteria was embarrassed, she knew she didn't quite understand but she didn't think she was way off either... I guess I was. She crumbled up the parchment and was determined to get this right. She opened her book to chapter two, and suddenly it all seemed to make sense to her. She re-wrote he previous phrases:

Athletic 1+2+7+3+5+2+9+3= 32
Caring 3+1+9+9+5+6= 33
Clumsy 3+3+3+1+7= 17
Loyal 3+6+7+1+3= 20
Bookworm 2+6+6+2+5+6+9+4= 40

One of my favorite wizards is Gandolf.
(6+5+5)+(6+6)+(4+7)+(6+1+4+6+9+9+4+5)+(5+9+8+1+9+4 +1)+(9+1)+(7+1+5+4+6+3+6)=151

She raised her hand, "Professor, was this what you were looking for." She felt a bit better about this set of answers.

When Professor Hadley came around again, Simon hoped he had gotten it right this time around. The seventh year smiling as she confirmed his work, nodding in answer. "Thank you professor," he said deciding to wait quietly until the next part.

So the only thing that linked in with her past and family would have to be the word 'Adopted'. What else, what else? Oh! Quidditch! How can she forget that? And... her house! Because she was sorted in there for a reason right? She clearly has the attributes or some of them for Hufflepuff house. Now that just left one... Her mind geared towards her personality and almost immediately, one word came into her mind: 'Craziness'.

Ok... so it was sentence time? Kita was already tired from the previous calculations and she was already getting a migraine! But she was going to have to get used to it right? Because she was really starting to like Arithmancy, migraine or no migraine.

Ok! Sentence time! Now... what to write, what to write, WHAT TO WRITE?! And that's when the brunette had a flashback. A flashback from the one time she had sat in the Great Hall with her best friend just munching on some chocolate cake. She bit her lip in an attempt to stop herself giggling from the mere memory of that day and started scribbling down the sentence that had formed in her head.

SPOILER!!: Parchment Again

And Josephina was back to making rounds again, after giving her eyes a quick rest from all those numbers. It was official; she was going to need a glass of mead from the Three Broomsticks after the lesson was up. Tate wouldn't notice if she sneaked out of the castle for a few, right?

Ahem. Anyway. Students. "You ... missed a digit in Quidditch, dear. Actually, two digits because you forgot the first 'i', but then also you skipped over the 'c' when writing the numbers." The 9 didn't technically have to be there, since Kita didn't write the I, whether purposefully or not.

This time, in order to not make a mistake, Rebecca checked her math to make sure there were no errors.

Reading the next girl's statement, Fina tilted her head and blinked a few times, trying to focus her thoughts. "One teeny error," she whispered to the first year, wincing slightly. "You've miscalculated the numbers in the last word. Check your addition in that word." She was sure the girl would figure it out on her own.

Hmpf, so much for the classwork getting his mind off of things. But he did want house points so, oh well.

Was it just her or did some of the kids seemed rather clouded today in their thoughts? Reluctantly approaching the seventh year egocentric lion, Josephina glanced over his paper quickly and was half-tempted to ignore the teeny mistake on his part. BUT the teacher in her wouldn't allow it, despite the offense she felt by his statement.

"They art and I never said they weren't," Hadley reminded him. That wasn't the issue and he very well knew it. "Oh and by the way, check your addition for murals." Because you know, it was wrong and stuff.

Once the girl finished with the first set of numbers she awaited for instructions. She was totally psyched with how much she enjoyed adding numbers...lots of them. When she heard Professor Hadley saying that they could go on and do the same but with a sentence, Peyton smiled and began writing...

Placing her quill down, Peyton re-added everything silently to herself to check if she was correct.

Would leaving the lesson now to go get some mead be highly irresponsible of her? Probably, Fina mused as she walked over to another young Slytherin and glanced at her work. Rubbing her eye absently, she counted up the numbers.

Huh? "Yea, your calculations are off on your first two words... Baltazar and Red." The kids not getting their own last surnames correct worried her slightly for when they got to important stuff like their core numbers. Granted that lesson was for another day, but still.

Passing by Sierra's desk again, she blinked at the statement on the second year's parchment, rather amused. "Well it's a statement. And it adds up." Someone was jealous though, Fina was sure of it.

It took a moment longer for her to check the work on the next kid's, but when she did she nodded in agreement with his work. Almost. "It would be right, provided you meant the first statement to read Deeds, rather than simply deed." She nodded and pointed to the extra one there in the fifth spot.

Smiling kindly at the young Ravenclaw, she checked over her work. "Well you've miscalculated Ravenclaw, but everything else looks awesome. Just double-check your addition on that one word." She nodded.

Noting the young Gryffindor who seemed to be in awe of her abilities to patiently check everyone's work, she smiled back. "No problem, dear!" Honestly, she'd been checking and working with numbers for quite some time now; it was all like a second language to her now.

OH.

The class will be continuing shortly. The boy blinked, before leaning back on his chair. There was no way he will do another sentence, he'd rather rest before they entered the next part of the lesson. Which will probably have something to do about WHAT do those numbers mean? Probably? No?
Treyen looked about ready to fall off his chair. Yea, they totally should leave soon because the last thing she wanted was a Prefect down on the ground.

Was it just her or did the Hufflepuff boy... uh, whatever his name was... Adam or Elwin or something? seem oddly uncomfortable right about then. As he glanced toward his own sister. Yea, she definitely started something she totally hadn't intended to; sparks didn't need to fly during a lesson unless it was... no, scratch that. No sparks, ever.

Nodding at him, she moved onto the next. No point in lingering over unwanted topics.

She raised her hand, "Professor, was this what you were looking for." She felt a bit better about this set of answers.

Turning back instead toward the sound of Professor being called again, she looked toward the young Gryffindor who'd been having trouble before. "Much closer to what I'm looking for," Fina agreed, as she took a closer look at the calculations. "Except for a few minor miscalculations with athletic, clumsy, and caring. H is an 8 value, not seven. You completely skipped the value of 'm'. And G is a seven, not a six."

She paused, glancing over the statement as well. "Oh and favorite. T is a 2, not a 4. But I think your whole addition might be off slightly more too."

When Professor Hadley came around again, Simon hoped he had gotten it right this time around. The seventh year smiling as she confirmed his work, nodding in answer. "Thank you professor," he said deciding to wait quietly until the next part.

Hearing the Gryffindor Captain pipe again, she sent a brief smile his way in acknowledgement before deciding it was time to continue onward with the lesson.

Making her way back up to the front of the room, "Right. So as I've just had you practice the process of transferring letters to numbers and thus to discover the numerical value of words and sentences, you're probably all wondering why or what is the meaning of this?" She paused, letting this sink in. "Honestly, compared to some of the other numbers we've calculated or WILL calculate in the future, there isn't much meaning to this so much as symbolism." Okay kids, throw stuff. Do it. Josephina could see it on their faces that they probably wanted to.

"Paragrams are more about symmetry, for instance, poetry with all lines having the same sum and construction of parallel passages. Some of you probably noticed during your calculations that some of your words ended up with the same values. That is exactly the kind of symmetry I'm talking about!" Hmm. Complicated much? It was about to get more so.

"Any questions?" She asked, glancing around the room. Because if they were all as beat as she was from the numbers, then she was game for assigning the homework and that was it.

With writing a paragram, you'll see that it comes to what the numerical values of each sentence is that matters most." Hadley started. "So with your sentence, you'll want to go back and add the values for each word without any single-digit reduction." Please, it was the only time they didn't have to reduce. They should take advantage of it.
Selina blushed at her Professors critic of her work. She had not realized they were not reducing. That would have saved her a lot of time and energy, but alas live and learn. Besides she needed the practice anyway so she was not going to complain.

Her quill went back down to her parchment and made the instructed changes. A now scratched up piece of parchment in hand Selina looked at Hadley and asked, "Is this what you meant ma'am?"

Peyton's cheeks turned red when Professor Hadley said she had done her adding wrong on Baltazar and Red. Her eyes quickly scanned the parchment and...oh yeah, Red was done wrong, BUT Baltazar WAS correct. She raised an eyebrow and raised her hand. It was 25. Okay, first, he'd relaxed way too much into his comfortable chair, and pretty much woke up when he noticed he was almost falling off of it. Probably not the best thing to do while studying Arithmancy, no? Nor Potions, that would be disastrous. So, the Hufflepuff straightened himself, and...

...and look! Hadley was walking over there to the front. Good. This meant, they were going to keep going. This meant, they were going to find out what this numbers had to do with anything.

Or...not.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

Symbolism?! What the--He already knew how to do math, okay? And he knew how to assign numbers to letters, Hadley. This was so very uncalled for. And it was so clear on his face, as his mouth remained slightly open thanks to the shock of this important information. He frowned once he regained composure.

Though, perhaps Hadley was only doing this for the first years, yes? Okay, he could deal with that, it seemed fair.

And then he frowned AGAIN, there had been no similar or identical numbers in his calculations. Awesome.

He HAD to ask something, though, "I have one," he said, raising his hand, "Are we doing something else besides 'symbolism' in this lesson?"

Yes, he understood absolutely nothing of what Papergrams were. But, that shouldn't be something to be concerned about, Kurumi will explain him.

Kurumi's cheeks flushed an even deeper shade and she nodded her head in appreciation. "T-T-Thank you Professor Hadley," she squeaked softly.

She didn't have any repeating numbers. She had several numbers in the twenties, but none that repeated as was. Even the final digits seemed to be all over the place.

"Professor Hadley?" she asked raising her hand. "Is the theory behind this related somewhat to Karmic Numbers? Meaning, if there are no repeated numbers that there is a negative energy around us or a lesson that we must learn?" Because...she needed many of them considering numbers 1 and 6 were the only two to be repeated in the final digit position.

For possibly the first time ever, Samira was actually understanding the lesson. Somewhat. But then the Professor started talking and she was confused all over again. When the class was asked if they had any questions, Samira automatically raised her hand. She was still a little confused. "Professor? I'm a bit lost. Does this mean that words or sentences that are alike will have the same value?" Waaaah? Samira didn't even know if the question came out right. She hoped the professor understood what she meant, because at this point she was confusing herself.

Her voice had a very soothing effect on him, but he was frowning a little at Kurumi's question. Why was she worrying about such a thing? Yes, Kurumi seemed to be worrying over NOT having repeated numbers on those calculations. And she had.

Treyen didn't even wait for Hadley to answer that, not that he knew the answer anyway, so, in reality, he never answered it, "I wouldn't worry if I were you, because you have two 29s in there," he said, gesturing towards her parchment.

It was he who needed to worry if the answer to Kurumi's question was a positive one, because he had no repeated numbers whatsoever.

She paused, letting this sink in.

Tayla raised her hand nervously, trying not to think of Josh possibly looking at her as she spoke. "Professor Hadley, so these numbers we've just calculated...are they just numbers? We can't find symbols in them?" Tayla furrowed her eyebrows in thought. "Do words and their numbers mean something only when the words are...compared? Like when they have the same number?" Tayla wasn't sure the professor understood her question. She wanted to do well, but this definitely wasn't her best subject.

Looking toward the first of the students to ask a question, Josephina blinked at the Hufflepuff Prefect a few times.

"Do you have a problem with symbolism, Prefect Lockhart?" She asked, raising her eyebrow in challenge. Because if she didn't know any better, she actually considered that to be PLENTY for a lesson.

Hearing Kurumi's question, Josephina was about to answer when she heard a reply by Treyen. Listening she sighed as he didn't really answer her question at all. Only her own personal concerns. "These have nothing to do with Core Numbers, Karmic Numbers, or any other numbers that we've discussed thus far. Completely independent of who you are, with the exception that I had you practice with words that describe you." Did that help? She had a distinct feeling that it might have helped to clarify some future questions...

Does this mean that words or sentences that are alike will have the same value?" Waaaah? Samira didn't even know if the question came out right. She hoped the professor understood what she meant, because at this point she was confusing herself.
Hearing another question, Josephina shook her head. "Not sure I quite understand what you're asking, but what I've been trying to say really is that a Paragram is more of a literature type. You know how with some poetry tyes there is symmetry with syllables?" Fina asked, not waiting for an answer though. "With this, it's symmetry in the numerical value of each sentence." That ought to help clear things up. Maybe.

And then, it seemed Tayla had a question in which Josephina listened with increased interest. "Yes. These numbers are just numbers and have no connection to YOU whatsoever. They mean something when you're calculating a specific number, but for this sake, we were calculating simply to find numerical values to words. Reducing to a single digit wouldn't matter because it wasn't necessary to find the meaning associated with that word." Confusing, eh? Considering they were used to meanings and stuff associated with numbers. "By calculating numerical values for words and statements, it helps you see how symmetry can be developed, as a few of you saw in some of the words you picked. This will help you as you're writing later on."

Hmm. "If there are no further questions, then I'll distribute the homework..." she said, hazel eyes sweeping the room for more confused faces, or hopefully now understood.

Eh, Samira knew her question wasn't very clear. Especially when she herself realized it made no sense when it was out of her mouth. Despite this, however, the professor's answer did help to clear things up somewhat, and she wasn't as confused. Samira smiled at the professor to show that she understood better. Not being able to think of anymore questions, the Slytherin leaned back and waited for the homework assignment.

So this whole lesson didn't really have a point at all? Sure, Hadley was saying about it actually having a point, but Evelyn didn't see it. For once, she wasn't all that happy with the arithmancy lesson.

Leaning her head somewhat on Josh's as he laid his own on her shoulder, the Slytherin girl stared down at her notebook, once again...tapping her quill on her table. Not out of boredom, but out of annoyance. She didn't understand the point of the lesson, and didn't really want to ask that out loud just in case the Professor took it the wrong way. Meh. The homework would be nice to get now though. Although, how one could give homework on something that was pointless pretty much was beyond her.

Good Morning, Professor Hadley. Can I take the word?
A mere coincidence is the winning ticket in the Sports Lottery. For matching numbers of programmers with repetition the regularity with coincidence is almost the law; but might be a mere coincidence if we introduce to computers, for example, a variety values
of figures, but revealed there, spontaneously, the same values. This proves numbers do not control events.
But numbers have power, thanks man named Pythagoras!

What does Paragram mean? Paragram synonyms, paragram antonyms... It is pleasant word game!"-
meanwhile, leveraged paper records for costing and useful phrases, turning to the Pythagorean Number System.

R-I-D-D-L-E

9-9-4-4-3-5

The numbers in my surname add up to 34;

3+4=7
SEVEN (7): Analytical and Mystic (that I prefer also as greens light-blue FIVE: Change Is the Name of the Game):
There Flower is Rose-scented geranium for preference and discernment;
Key Words are Intellectual, inner wisdom, scientific-technological minded, metaphysical and occult mysteries, education, calculation, logic, reason, dignity (wonderful to Hogwarts RPG);
Gems are Amethyst, alexandrite (thanks text-book with information).

Suddenly she remembered recomendation to practice this by taking five words synonymous with who you are and translating them to a number equivalent. Indeed, how could differ essentially the same things!
Just I have realized - changing, being have changed realy in the world with word; and it would be ONLY for the better.

Arithmancy with the Pythagorean Number System are interesting very much for me.

Anasta Riddle said softly, spits three times over your left shoulder (the evil eye) Pr. Hadley, being harmonious and concentrated on the Arithmancy in Classroom.

"No problem," he said, and winked, of course, as he always did when Kurumi was around, no?

And now his attention was completely on Hadley. Ooooooh, the eyebrow! He recognized THAT from Saylen. Awww, Maya, we miss you.

Er, Hadley, right.

He had totally thought out an answer for that question, but then...there was a reason behind the question, yes? What if Hadley made him stay and turn a thousand ridiculously long phrases into numbeeeeers?!

At the realization of what could happen he decided to think before speaking, unlike what he'd done earlier, but he cleared his throat first and shifted in his seat a little, "Actually...," he started to say, "...not really, no, I was only wondering," the boy shrugged his shoulders lightly, as if the question hadn't been that important to begin with.

It was obvious that the next time Hadley asked for questions...he didn't even blink.

Blinking in confusion at his work, Daichi grabbed the parchment and tried to find what he did wrong. Honestely why did he tell people he would be good at this subject!? He sighed out loud when after some looking he noticed what he missed. "How stupid can you get?!" he mumbled to himself and crumbled up his parchment. He dipped his quill in the ink and tried again on a different piece of parchment.

SPOILER!!: first calculations

D a i c h i
4 1 9 3 8 9 = 34

K a t h a r o s
2 1 2 8 1 9 6 1 = 30

D u c k
4 4 3 2 = 13

P u r e
7 4 9 5 = 25

The second sentence he had done right but forgot to add up the numbers. He groaned in frustration when he saw his old parchment crumbled up at the corner of his desk. Now he had to write over again!

SPOILER!!: second calculations

B e l i e v e
2 539 5 4 5 = 33

I n
9 5 = 14

Y o u r s e l f
7 6 4 9 1 5 3 6 = 41

33+14+41 = 88

"oooh , Professor! i have a cool number!" Daichi said excitedly while pointing at the number 88. Why did he even find it a cool number? Because it had two the same? He didn't know but he thought it was cool , teehee.

But..wait... these numbers had no meaning what so ever?! O_o Why did they even calculate them!? Daichi wanted to have a cool meaning that fitted him and now the Professor said they had no meaning? pffffft!
Daichi placed his quill down on his desk with a sigh. So all that HARD thinking had been for nothing.Well, not for nothing, he now knew how to calculate them ...but still! he wanted a meaning. *pout*

"No questions , Professor.." Daichi said , the pout still on his lips as he crossed his arms.

Alex gave the professor a doubtful look but who was he to question a professor? If she said he was good at this, he wouldn't say he wasn't. Although he knew he was.

He put his quill down and looked longingly out the window when Hadley asked the class if they had any questions. He could dream about Quidditch until she assigned the homework and he could go out and practise some more for the tryouts.

Zara simply nodded and listened to the professor's explanation. And scribbling down notes as fast as she could without even looking down at her parchment. Once the professor asked for questions, Zara took a look at her parchment, ah yes, her handwriting was still the name. Nothing out of place. Contented, she listened to the questions the other students had, and to the professor's response to them. She had nothing else to ask for now.

Homework. Zara smiled, not knowing whether to be excited for homework or dreading it. Then she finally decided she wanted to have it. She's been so bored lately, she visited all the interesting places she could think of for now, and conversations weren't really something she was particularly excited about. Having homework once in a while would probably be a good way to spend her time on something new, besides making piano compositions at the library as she took reference to some books.

So, what was the homework, exactly?
