Hecate was tired. She hadn't had a good evening. In fact this whole week had been trying. She needed a vacation and she needed one soon.
ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Antarctica! for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me at the WWoHP, and to Ameh for makin it into a pretty graphic!

Polyjuice potion?! No way. Jamie would have never expected to have learnt about this at school, so yea, he was kind of excited right now. An ingrediant? Well... he knew a few, actually.
"Fluxweed scruples?" Whatever the heck they were. All he knew was that he had read about it before. And it was an ingrediant for Polyjuice potion. "15... or 16, I think." Blah, blah... precision. Just bung about 30 in there...

Hmm… what to say? Something new, of course… Now think, Gwen think! The ravvie tried remembering what she had read about the Polyjuice Potion. After a while of thinking, she finally said: ‘Powdered bicorn horn!’ . After making a short break, Gwen added: ‘2 ounces of that, I think’
Polyjuice Potion? Ugh! That is probably the potion with the most disgusting ingredients... As far as she knows."Filings and rasplings of Saltpeter and Mercury and Mars?"
Ingredients? Wasn't that what they were supposed to learn? Thankfully, Hugo was a giant nerd and had read his potions book before. His hand shot up. "Fluxweed," he suggested. "Picked at full moon."

Finally, POLYJUICE POTION!
Jonathan has always been interested in that potion. Not that he has brewed one but he has likes reading stuffs about this potions on any book. For starters, a Polyjuice Potion is a complicated potion to brew. It takes too much time to brew as well.
Are they suppose to make the potion today after the lecture? If so, Jonathan can't wait!!! This would be the best experiment yet!
Hearing the Professor's question Jonathan raised his hand for the answer "an ounce of crude Antimony" there are a lot of ingredients found in such potion. Antimony is just one of them perhaps.
"Sorry Professor," he mumbled. Polyjuice potion? That was the change-y one. "Ummmmm you need unsuckered leeches. They have their nommy mouths removed."

Hearing the answers being named off, she ran through the list she may have read about to remember what else there was. Raise the hand! "You also need leeches." Darn leeches. She couldn't get away from them!
Looking up from the wound in his palm Josh stared at the she-snakes as they exchanged words. At the younger one first then at the bigger one. She is actually congratulating 'the captain' she-snake for beating his team while he as sitting here so close to them. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeh! So he felt like he had no effect on them. Very well.
''I think she is talking about the mud bath you took after the game'' he murmured to Evelyn with a smirk before turning back to Professor Lafay as she spoke.
She was asking what one need for a Polyjuice Potion...hmmm...
Leeches so the she-snake said...Josh was so sure she, yes his girlfriend, had lots of leeches.
''Maybe not directly an ingredient, professor...'' then the boy began, looking up at her which meant he had given up poking the wound in his hand. ''...but to brew the Polyjuice Potion, one essentially needs a brain with a dominant care for potion brewing. You know it should be brewed carefully by skilled hands for it is a rather trickly one to deal with as i have heard.'' actually he had read that in the textbook but he did not want people to know that he was reading some textbooks. That sounded so Ravenclaw-Birdie-ish.

Finally, they would be studying polyjuice potion! One of the best-and most useful-potion there was. Raising her hand, Samira said, "Professor, to brew Polyjuice Potion you would need to acquire a bit of the person you would want to change into. You would also need some shredded boomslang skin, among other things."
"I am starting this class now. Who can tell me an ingredient of the polyjuice potion?" she asked the class.
ooc: Please just say ONE ingredient. Don't worry if all were already said, once that happens you can repeat them.
FYI - I love you all. If Hecate seems cranky, she just hasn't had much sleep... and doesn't like being called out for it.

She sighed. Lafay seemed to be in a not-so-good mood anyway. She made a mental note to be on her absolute best behavior during class--no glaring, eye rolling, frowning, or complaining in general. Not that she'd ever complain in Potions class anyway--it was her favorite. She still made a mental note of it just in case. No way did she want to end up on Lafay's bad side.
She raised her hand. "You need a bit of the person you want to turn into. It doesn't have to be a strand of their hair, but it usually is," she answered.

"Correct, 16 scruples of fluxweed that was picked at full moon." She wondered if anyone knew what a scruple was. "Good. Now that we've named all the ingredients, I want you to tell me why they are used in this potion." She said and added. "And set up your cauldrons if you have yet to do so."
ooc: Be creative, you won't lose points for silly answers.
Lexi blinked a few times and raised her hand. "Because they all have magical properties... that will assist in the Transfiguration process," she said with a tone of confusion in her voice.
Gwen listened to the Professor talk, then she tried thinking as fast and as logical she could. Now… what could the Fluxweed do? No idea… moving on.. perhaps the Knotgrass? Slim chances I’m going to know that. ‘Lacewing Flies are used as a unification ingredient, meaning that they help to bring the ingredients together.’, the ravvie said. There, I have something!
Pulling a hair from her head, Sophia placed it down in front of her next to her cauldron that was being set up. Uh, OUCH. And now she had to think about why those ingredients were used. Ughhh.
She paused for a moment, thinking.
"Each ingredient assists in Transfiguring, almost like mimicking," she said. "Or even mirroring, except for voice. Maybe one ingredient can't work without another, requiring those few, or all of the ingredients at once, to make sure the potion works." She paused. Yeah, that might work.
Eino wasn't sure if she wanted them to explain each ingredient individually, or all collectively, but since Eino had suggested Antimony, he thought he should just explain the importance of that ingredient. He raised his hand. "Antimony has several functions in the polyjuice potion! One of them is that it acts as a catalyst, to cause a reaction. However, antimony is also responsible for the transfiguration of our digestive system organs, such as stomach, intestines, liver, and so on. And..." He hesitated, but oh well, why not. "This isn't a reason why we use it, really, but antimony is one of the reasons why the polyjuice potion doesn't last very long. It loses potency rather quickly after it reacts."
Presley gingerly plucked one hair from her own head as told, carefully laying it in front of her. Her cauldron was already out, so she didn't have to worry about that instruction. The new question at hand, what are the ingredients used for? "The DNA is used so that the potion knows what it's supposed to transform you into," Presley tried. Somehow her words sounded far less intelligent once they'd escaped her mouth than they did in her mind. "The potion knows? Presley, you idiot. Potions don't think. They're inanimate." What she'd meant was more along the lines of, it can't transform you into something that hasn't been brought into the equation. Presley rearranged her thoughts, and tried for that one, using the exact phrasing. "You can't be transformed into something that hasn't been introduced to the equation, I mean."

Why were they all used as ingredients to create the potion? Well, Jonathan can't answer that one at least. But still, it's worth a try. "Polyjuice Potion is a complicated potion to brew." he started "It is not only complicated but it also needs time and patience to do so. Some of the potions mentioned or rather, most of the potions mentioned are not that easy to find. As we all know one of them can only be picked during a full moon." referring to the fluxweed. "It just only goes to show that weird potions comes from weird ingredients as well"
yes, Polyjuice potion is a weird potion. As soon as Jonathan finished copying all the exact ingredients needed to brew it, he can now safely say it is WEIRD in so many ways.
Of course, as ordered by the Professor, Jonathan took out his cauldron and readied it on the table. Now he was just getting excited. Are they making the potion today?
"Good. Now that we've named all the ingredients, I want you to tell me why they are used in this potion." She said and added. "And set up your cauldrons if you have yet to do so."
ooc: Be creative, you won't lose points for silly answers.
Elektra began to set up her cauldron as she listened to Lafay's question and Elektra raised her hand. "Well say if someone was doing terrible in a class and they begged for a friend to go in their class for them and make them pass. That could be one way right?"

Nika opened her eyes widely. She didn't mean it like that... She definitely didn't call her a creature of dung. Talk about jumping to conclusions. Nika opened her mouth to say something, but closed it before she did. No points shall be taken away from Gryffindor today! Nika should have seen it coming though... This is Lafay. She made a mental note to greet her professor the traditional way. A head nod and a "Good day to you as well Miss Adler." Would be much better than a "Thanks for telling me I look like a creature of dung." yup, way better.
Then when Lafay asked the starting question she was just relieved that they wouldn't have to sit there for long. Although she didn't know any of the ingredients she looked around to note other's answers. What did this potion do in the first place!? She didnt even know that.

Nika scribbled furiously as she wrote down all of the ingredients as they were confirmed. She later realized they were all on the board and let out a small sigh. Whatever.... At least she got them down in the end. Then Nika reached up and gently pulled a single strand of her dyed redish hair and put it in front of her. She let out a small squeak as she pulled, but it didn't hurt badly.
Then she lifted her head just in time to hear the next question. What waaah? How was she supposed to knowr this!? She did t even know any ingredients. Hopefully Lafay wouldn't mind if it was a guess... "Well maybe if some of the ingredients are missing you might end up making a different potion or something and the effects of the new potion are really weird and they mutate the person instead of making the person look like the other guy." mutants are not good, nope.

As Presley glanced at Nika's obviously dyed hair (not that it didn't look fabulous on her, just nobody's hair looked like that) a question occured to her, and she raised her hand to ask. "Professor, if a person has, say, dyed hair or a tattoo, that's not really part of thier DNA, would the person taking the potion appear with or without the dye-slash-tattoos?" This could be useful information later.
Raven prep his cauldron. cleaning it in muggle ways first then he used wizard ways by wand. placing it properly.
then he look at everyone, seem all are prepared as always, mimicking some of them, the novice Raven, "iIt all help the user to transfigured easily as exactly of original, Professor" well maybe. grin.

Kimalia looked up at nowhere thoughtfully, obviously the last ingredient where you extract someone's hair is essential for transformation.. But what about the others. "Well, having someone's hair gives the potion the essential ingredient to let it know what to shape your body as." As for the others, hmm, some creativity is needed for this. "Most of the other ingredients require a body part or a chemical ingredient, perhaps to encourage transforming one's dna, and the precise timing on when to get each ingredient definitely shows how complicated and dedicated someone needs to be to even want to use the potion." After her answer, Kimalia got her cauldron area all setup for today's brewing.

Isobel looked at Professor Lafay and thought about the question. Humm. She decided to give it a shot, even though she had no idea what she was talking about. "Well I think that the first person to make it just put in a lot of different stuff and eventually found out what it did. So that's how everyone makes it now," even though most people didn't make it ANYWAY, "If we leave something out it won't make the potion." Did that make sense? She hoped it made sense to Lafay. She had a tendency to not make a lot of sense sometimes.

Ahh.. One ounce of crude antimony.. Okay...
SPOILER!!: notes
Potions- Lesson 3- Polyjuice Potion
Emma Malfoy
Fourth Year
Ingredients:
-12 lacewing flies (have been stewed for 21 days)
-1 ounce of crude Antimony
- 4 unsucculated leeches
- 16 scruples of fluxweed (picked at full moon)
-3 drachms of pulverised Sal Ammoniac
-Pulverised blades of knotgrass
-1 pinch of powdered horn of a Bicorn (picked at full moon (?) )
-Filings and rasplings of Saltpeter, Mercury and Mars (iron fillings?)
-Shredded dried skin of a Boomslang
-Extract of The-Transfigured-Being-To-Be (a hair strand).
Emma quickly wrote down the ingredients in her notebook and set up her cauldron. After that was done, the blonde scribbled down some more notes neatly before looking up. Lafay now wanted to know why these ingredients were used in the potion. Okay... so the Malfoy would make a guess. Guessing couldn't hurt... Right?
The blonde raised her hand. "Well the hair strand is used to determine who you want to turn into. If you didn't have it then you wouldn't be able to use the Ployjuice potion because you need a subject or person's DNA to use to turn into." explained the blonde.

ooc: Be creative, you won't lose points for silly answers.
"Professor! The Fluxweed is used because, since it's a member of the mint family and you need the potion to be kind of minty so the terrible taste of the person won't be so bad?" Clearly the seventh year had said the first thing that had popped into his mind. The other ingredients. Well it was obvious. They all had special attributes to them. He couldn't list them all though, he wasn't Merlin.
Taking out his wand Legend tapped it agaisnt his cauldron. "Scourgify" Yup. Now he was good.
