Not to far from the classroom where Arithmancy lessons are held, there is a room that looks like it has not been used properly for sixty years – or 17 years, when Professor Fox taught the subject. It has been cleaned up nicely, however, with all the dust gone, books and other objects placed neatly on the bookshelves located at the back wall of the room. The walls have been painted a lovely salmon color, with small white jasmines in a line around the middle of each wall.
The bookshelves contain various numerological texts, from specifics about a number to about calculating the map of your future, as well as several abacuses on one shelf to be used as counting aids. Please note, some of the books might be quite old, but they are well cared for, so should any harm come to them, then the price to pay will be heavy.
There is a large blackboard at the front of the room, which is charmed to write coded messages on it every once and awhile. You'll need to use your knowledge of cryptic messages, however, to translate it into English. Lining one wall is a row of windows, overlooking the Quidditch Pitch, and the opposite wall has smaller boards in which students may write out their calculations and teach each other, if desired.
The chamber may be used by students for puzzle solving and extra time to study the art of Arithmancy; all the books and tools that you should need could be found along the bookshelves. However, on the off chance that it is not there, Professor Hadley's office is right next door, so feel free to ask her for materials you may desire. All students using this room are expected to follow the honor system, and any abuse or inappropriate use of the classroom will result in immediate loss of house points and/or detention.
Rather than desks, there are several wooden tables scattered about the room in no particular arrangement with four or five chairs surrounding each table. This creates the perfect environment to bring a buddy or two to work out some difficult calculations and compare notes. You are encouraged to work with others, but do remember that cheating is NOT permitted and shall result in no house points and/or possible loss of points. There are also two [purple] armchairs located in the far corners of the room which are perfect for snuggling up with a good book or working out some homework questions.
Just remember again, Hadley's office is right next door, so keep your voices down unless of course you require her assistance.
OOC: You are welcome to use this thread as a free roleplay area, but just be warned that Hadley may stop in at any given moment... so don't be doing anything you don't want her to know about. Feel free to use this to study and enhance your Arithmancy studies as well; please indicate in the title of your post if you require Professor Hadley's attention. Just remember that white jasmine is one of the flowers for the number two, which is about harmony and connecting; of which, you are all connecting your futures here at Hogwarts. And of course, all SS rules and Arithmancy-specific rules apply, always.

But she was sure that the lioness was off doing great things somewhere.
Seeing that her, Simon, and Sakura-san had all put out rock, it did seem like the groups had been decided. But, now that her Slytherin Prince had shown up, did that mean they had to start all over with the janken? It would be silly if they divided themselves into two groups of three. "Looks like it," she said glancing at Salander.

Thinking of Jack made Sakura's face fall slightly before she pushed the thought to the back of her mind. Stupid DADA was making her feel all the emotions she'd felt years ago. All the sadness she'd worked hard to forget and move past. And she was past most of it truthfully, just sometimes she missed those twins, and she missed her cousin too. Ruby and Sakura hadn't spoken in years, she didn't even know where Ruby was anymore.

She had kinda figured out all of their names from listening to their previous conversations...

As he watched the results played out amongst the players, Simon couldn't help put chuckle at who put out what. "I find it funny how us three Gryffindors all chose rock," he replied amused. Spotting Salander as he entered he nodded at his question. "Uh huh and you're welcome to join us."
Lookinh around at the group again, the quidditch captain tried to see about the groups once more, the idea of three groups of two seeming the best bet seeing as the professor had originally asked for pairs. "How about this....Sakura and Raven, myself and Ariana and Salander and Kurumi. That way each group has an older student paired with a younger student and the houses are evenly distrubuted."

"That works too," Ariana said, smiling. Actually, it made sense for an older student to be in each group- Ariana herself had read a lot about Arithmancy, but never actually done all of this stuff.

He saw the Ravenclaw girl make like a gun and jokingly held up his hands to surrender "Oh hey! You're not gonna shoot a defenseless cephalopod now are yea?" he grinned.
Wow big words. Now if he only knew what it means...
"I'm cool with that." he smiled as he shifted his seat closer to Kurumi. "You and me again pardner...." he said as he gave her a playful wink. "Lets hope to keep the birds and the spiders out of this one ok?" Not that there would be any chances of that, its all about Numbers this time right?

Kurumi smiled, and blushed slightly when Salander winked at her. At least they were not going into the Forbidden Forest to fight off giant spiders. Number were safe, as long as they were not in a maze. "O-O-O-Okay," Kurumi nodded. Between the two options, she was still paired off with Salander, so nothing really changed in her case. She picked up her case of sticks. "So...should we get started?"

"Yup!" he replied as he flipped open his bag and reached out for his pick up stick and the Arithmancy parchment that contained the homework. He lay the stick down on the table and narrowed his eyes as he read the homework "I'm not really sure if I'm following Ms Hadley but I think she says we just do a reading using the numbers we have on the sticks? I just added my birthday down and got a 6."

"I don't see why houses being evenly distributed matters, but I do agree that having an older student with a younger one is a good idea." Just as long as Sakura had gotten her way and Kurumi and Salander were paired together. It would probably be good for the girl to be with someone she knew and of course an older student with a younger student was always a good idea.

Kurumi reached into her bag and pulled out her stick as well before setting it on the table next to Salanders. Pink and green...could have been a worse combination. It kind of reminded her of watermelon, or those watermelon gummies that you could buy in non-magical candy shops.
Kurumi looked over her homework sheet not really sure that Salander had the homework right. "It says here that we are supposed to use a Chieng Tung set," she read holding up the set she had borrowed earlier and set that on the table. Still, didn't the numbers on the sticks go up, well, much higher than to the number 9 which they had discussed in class? "So, you need to shake this."

"Actually Raven, your meant to ask the question before you shake them and pick one. So how about you do it again and if you get the same number I'll tell you the reading for it. Although I'm unsure about the whole number thing, I mean if you get 11 again that's a master number which is easy enough, but I'm unsure about some of the higher numbers. I think if we got one of those we'd have to reduce them down... But that doesn't matter right now I guess. So can you ask the question first, shake the sticks and then draw one please?" Sakura asked, in a friendly way.

"Actually Raven, your meant to ask the question before you shake them and pick one. So how about you do it again and if you get the same number I'll tell you the reading for it. Although I'm unsure about the whole number thing, I mean if you get 11 again that's a master number which is easy enough, but I'm unsure about some of the higher numbers. I think if we got one of those we'd have to reduce them down... But that doesn't matter right now I guess. So can you ask the question first, shake the sticks and then draw one please?" Sakura asked, in a friendly way.

Raven back the stick in the set. saying "O-Okay, the same question as before" Raven smiling widely trying to cover the redness in his face. now shaking it more than earlier and pick one stick, he didn't see the numbers, and gave it to Sakura --let alone Sakura see the number in the stick. hoping for a good answer, Raven crossing his fingers.
Hope you don't mind I made up a number, if you want 11 I'll change it to that.

Sakura smiled at Raven, hoping to make him feel better or something. "Don't worry Raven. I'm sure the answer wont be a bad one." Well she'd just need to wait until she found out his number.
A number he didn't seem to have read. Ok. That was fine.

"Alright so the number ten means that you'll have good karma and signifies a rebirth of sorts, that you've paid any of your karmic debts off. So if we use the number ten as your number without reducing it and we need to interpret it for the question you asked I think what is being said is that there will be an event that will allow you to be reborn in a months time. I think any kind of rebirth would fit in as a big event. Don't you?" Sakura asked, reading over what the number ten meant again.
"Also you will need to use courage for this rebirth to come about, which is kind of fitting since you're a Gryffindor and one of the traits of the house is bravery. So I think that I can say that there will be a major event in around a month that will allow you, or force you, to use your courage to bring about a rebirth of yourself. This event could be something involving other people, maybe saving someone or something, allowing you to grow a bit, and therefore enter a new stage in your life. Or this event could simply be a major realization that you make about your life, allowing you to enter into a new stage and become a better person, or at least a more mature person. I believe it's definitely safe to say you'll be entering a new stage in your life though, since that is what rebirth signifies to me." Sakura finished, pushing her hair behind her ear, and pushing her parchment towards Raven, upon which she had written what she'd said.
"Was that an okay reading? I'm kinda not sure if it's necessarily correct or not but from what the textbook says I think it is... Do you want me to try to clarify anything I said?" she asked, a small frown on her face. She'd been speaking kind of fast, and also she wasn't sure if the reading she'd done was correct or fair to Raven. If he asked her questions on what she said she could expand, maybe delve deeper, and therefore give him a better reading.

Confusing wouldnt even begin to describe it. "Am I ever gonna get any peace of mind this term?" Or will this term leave him in pieces?
He looks at Kurumi. Yeah he knows she knows what he's talking about. He shook the container and let a stick drop.

Kurumi squeaked, perhaps a little too loudly when Salander asked the sticks his question. Peace of mind? At Hogwarts? Kurumi highly doubt that he would based on his surroundings alone. In the year and several months she had been a student here, nothing ever seemed to be peaceful unless you were knocked unconscious by the Whomping Willow.
"5, 5, 5, 5," Kurumi repeated as she flipped through her textbook for some extra details about the number. "Well, considering that 5 is the number of transition, I would say that this means you are in the middle of a great change." Kurumi looked up from the textbook for a moment. "However, like the tarot card it represents, this number could also be warning against being too stubborn and that you need to be a good and benevolent teacher and role model to those around you. It also means that you know what to do in order to gain that peace of mind you are seeking." Kurumi smiled at Salander. Well, at least there was some good news coming from this card!
"Currently, you have many forks in the road ahead of you," Kurumi said slowly thinking that perhaps this was mostly in reference to the ladies in Salander's life. "So, this number means that you must realize all your options and that you have to see and be the change before it can happen. Then, and only then, can you move onto the next phase which is described as 'championing freedom.' So, I think you will find peace of mind...eventually?" Kurumi said more of as a question. She turned her gaze back to her book.
"The number 5 also means that you are a man of ingenuity and free spirited," she read. Well, they certainly had the latter right. "Oh! This part is good! You're destined for liberation and freedom. Move forward and embrace change. " Closing the book, Kurumi beamed at the Slytherin. "So, yes, you will get peace of mind because you are destined for it. You just have to stop running away from change."
Setting the book on her lap, Kurumi picked up the stick and looked at it. She was suddenly reminded of those cookies you ate at the end of a meal at Chinese restaurants. Funny thing is, those cookies did not originate in China, but in Japan. Silly how things worked out that way. "The world may be your oyster, but it doesn't mean you'll get its pearl." She said a little ominously for added effect.

As Salander sat listening to Kurumi, he went from slightly bemused to total slack-jawed shock. So he was kinda expecting a yes-no-you-win-a-free-trip-to-the-caribbean kinda answer. A period of transition? He knows how to gain peace of mind? Yeah, hop on a train, leave Hogwarts, dont look back.
But then theres that thing about being a role model.... and that annoying bit about being stubborn and running away...

He leaned back on his seat, pressed his palms against his eyes and let out a low groan. Kurumi's reading not only answered his question, but pretty much nailed everything else that was wrong with him. Finally he sits up and looks at the young Gryffindor brunette "Forks in the road...." he mumbled "Had plenty of those, didnt matter which one I chose-- it always seemed to be.... well not peaceful."
He reached out for the Chieng Tung set, pops it open and had Kurumi return the fortune errr... stick. "I'm happy with the oyster-- easier to chew..." he smirks as he closes the lid and hands her the container "Your turn."

Kurumi eyed Salander for a moment. Had she given him a bad reading? He didn't look very happy about it despite the ultimate outcome being that he would find what he was seeking. That was good, right? He could probably have oyster soup and have a pearl necklace too if he did things properly.
"For what it's worth," Kurumi blushed as she took the container from him. "I think you're a good role model." She looked down at the container. "At least, well, I look up to you."
Turning the container in her small hands, Kurumi looked at it as she searched her mind for a question. That was the hard part about this assignment, picking a single question out of the thousands that were swimming around in her head. There were questions about her family, about Mr. Ikenna, about what was happening to the wizarding world, about how she fit into this new world. Frowning a bit, Kurumi continued to shake the container with her right hand as she leaned her head on her right and rested her elbow on the table. What was the most important thing to her right now?
It all came back to her family and figuring out who she is. But, perhaps that was a question she should ask on her own. It was a rather personal one and perhaps would make it a little uncomfortable for the two of them. After all, the question was something like Will I ever find out who I really am? No, something a bit lighter was better and would certainly brighten the mood.
Looking nervously at Salander and then back at the container and listening to the sound of the sticks beating against each other, she finally spoke. "Will I come up with a cookie recipe using cockroach clusters that tastes delicious?"
She still did have a rather large supply of them in her trunk and was having a hard time coming up with a recipe. No sense in letting them go to waste, right?
Just then, a stick fell out of the container and onto the table. "9 it is," she smiled handing him the stick.
