Default Transfiguration Lesson I

Having put the pieces of card on each individual desk, Isabelle had arranged them in a semi-circular fashion, for now at least. Depending on what they would be doing later on, they could be moved. It was easy enough. Having placed several boxes of bits and bobs on the large wall length table behind her desk, she was now leaning against her desk, arms crossed and a smile of greeting on her face.

As well as the professor, the first thing you see upon entering is the large blackboard behind her right shoulder. Upon it was a message for the incoming students:

Please write your name, house and year on the card provided and place it at the front of your desk. Thank you.

OOC: As this was meant to open 3 hours ago (*pets SS*), I will not start the lesson proper until about 8PM GMT now. Please have your character enter and take their seat, filling out their details too. You can chat, but please DON'T do it excessively.

Professor Magnus Kurumi mouthed to try and remember this professor's name. "For this first lesson I have decided to let you choose what you learn." Issy's eyes took in all their faces before she continued. "This is why I asked you to prepare to be creative. Imagine for a moment," cue the walking around the room "that you could perform magic infront of muggles, and even use it to help them. I would like you to provide to me a situation where you think a muggle might need assistance, and which spell you would use to help them. Be it transfiguring something, conjuring something - I'm going to let you decide. I will list them on the board behind, then we shall have a vote on which one we learn in the second half of this lesson."

Isabelle stopped at the front of the room and folded her hands in front of her. She kept quiet for a few seconds to let what she had said sink in. Hopefully they would come up with something good. They looked like they might. "Bear in mind what you cannot do, as per the five exceptions behind me. Please let your imaginations go. Fire away!"



OOC: Just be creative here. Have it from your charries point of view as well, so if they don't know much about muggles - it might mean they come up with something weird. Also if you don't know the name of a spell, or it has no incantation, just tell Isabelle what it does and she'll go with that.

And this is my last post for the night. Please keeping the chatting to a minimum, unless you are discussing the lessons subject/question with each other. Thank you!

Isabel raised her hand, she had an idea. She actually come have come up with a few, but she shared one of them. "Well, if there was someone who really needed water, but couldn't have any, then you could conjure up some with 'auquamenti'." Would that be conjuring? Isobel pondered it for a moment before deciding, yeah, probably.

Fiona thought for a moment. She had lived around muggles for most of her life. Several of her neighbors had been muggles. Hmm... She thought hard for several moments then raised her hand into the air. "Maybe, Professor, if muggles were having rat problems a person could use a spell to get rid of the rats or change them into something less disgusting and annoying. Then after doing that, I would totally take the rats and put them in Mal's sock drawer. Haha that would totally get some good laughs!

Lexi thought this over for a moment and then her hand shot up in the air. "Okay... let's say someone was falling down a hole toward a bunch of really sharp sticks... like a trap or whatever. Couldn't we transfigure the sharpened sticks into something like pillows or a trampoline. Save the Muggle's life and all. Being impaled on a bunch of sticks down a dark hole would probably be pretty painful," she offered.

After a moment she let her eyes drift... She had been sitting next to Salander the WHOLE TIME? Whoa. She was totally nerding out on this lesson. Giving him a small smile she then turned back to the professor.

Conan bounced in his seat slightly. He'd read the textbook later. Now he was able to do magic in front of his parents. "I would fill my Mom's car up with gas when she ran out." Yeah that is useful. And cheap too. See he knew some stuff. Ok he hadn't read his text book, but he knew some stuff.

Or something similar. What was it with these professors and helping out Muggles, hmm?! Sierra really didn't know how she felt about muggles, but being a pure-blooded witch surely hadn't put her ahead of the game this school year. Exactly how many classes had been muggle-centric so far?!

Meh. This school's motto seemed to be "Save the Muggles, Save the World." Wasn't it supposed to be something about tickling a dragon, though?

Sighing, she raised her hand. "First off, if I used magic in front of a muggle, I think they'd need medical assistance shortly afterward, because you can bet your bottom dollar most of them would pass out over witnessing some of the stuff we can do," she said. That wasn't her idea, though. It was just a thought that had come to mind, and she said as much shortly after sharing that.

Lowering her hand, she added, "How about we assist them with chores and...maybe even simple spells like the summoning spell? My neighborhood friend knows a muggle, and she said the guy never gets off his couch all day long." Sad. So sad. "I think they'd want to know our secrets behind fast and effective cleaning and just summoning things to come to us instead of having to get up and retrieve them."

Sabel stared, simply stared at the Professor as she detailed the instructions to the class. It wasn't nearly as bad as potions where they were flat out told to make a cure that could help muggles, but it was just as hard of a kick in the face. He couldn't keep his hand from tightening on his quill and his eyes from dropping to his parchment, glaring hard enough at it that for a moment, he thought he may be able to light it on fire.

Why this now? Why any of this now? Suddenly the statue was the most important topic. Suddenly helping muggles had become such a top priority that it was enforced in every class. Why couldn't this have happened two years ago? Why couldn't they have spoken of this before last year? Before he lost one of the most important things in his life. It was almost as if it was mocking him, the possible rectification of the statue, the reminder that he hadn't been able to do anything for foolishly leaving his wand behind. And why on this green earth, did every Professor think that the contribution of wizards to muggles was needed to 'fix' and 'help' them? It was, and then at the same time it wasn't, and his head felt as if it would explode as thoughts ripped in separate directions and pain welled up once again.

"Patronus." Continuing to stare straight at his paper, arms folded across his chest and his vision already turning blurry with building tears he cursed, Sabel spoke lowly and tightly. "For when a muggle is dying or severely injured and the only help you can get is from someone other than yourself, be it a doctor or another wizard." A single tear streaked down his cheek before being absorbed by his shirt, the rest remaining contained and quiet.

Dallin was quite happy. He was in his favorite class, and so far it looked like it was not going to be boring! YAY! He had his card in front of him, with Dallin McKinley, Ravenclaw Fourth year on it, and he was thinking. Hard. He knew muggles - of course he did, most of his family was muggles. So, what kind of things would they need help with?

Oh, he had plenty of ideas. Whether or not those ideas would make sense was a different story. Finally he decided on something. Raising his hand, he said, "Let's say there was this really big storm - like a hurricane - that's gonna be really destructive. We could, like, turn the water into something less harmful, like, say, marshmallows?" Sounded great to him. "Maybe?"

Zane thought back to the muggles in the village near his home. His grandfather wasn't very fond of them, but he tolerated them, and he and his parents had to qualms with them, but he still wasn't familiar with their "ways". Zane tentatively raised his hand, "What if a muggle was lost in the woods and you transfigured a leaf or a piece of bark into a map?"

Lexi's attention turned toward the girl that spoke next. Pursing her lips for a moment she said, "Well then you could either perform the required first aid using magic, or call for someone that could help. And we can't teach Muggles to use magic, so them knowing our secrets would do no good, would it? They haven't got magic in them like we do. It would be useless."

Wesley raised her hand, "Well, this one time a couple holiday breaks back, I was walking down the street with Mr. Lawrence, and we saw this sad man trying to stay warm under a scrap of cardboard," the 6th year's face shifted from anxious to solemn, "If I could have, I would have transfigured that cardboard into a lovely, fluffy, yellow blanket."

Instead Mr. Lawrence had given the freezing man his coat. Which, Wesley had to admit, was nice. But his coat was not lovely or fluffy or yellow. It was black. And everyone knew black was a scary color.

Georgiana was writting down the five exceptions to Gamp's Law and stop for a moment to listen what the professor has to say. To help a muggle in a situation? she thought for a minute and raised her hand " Umm let's say a thief is around someone and is going to hurt the person or steal "obviously that's what he will do "you can use Incarcifors, see some object near the thief and capture him" Umm something like that? she shrugged. She raised her hand again and said "Or let's say the muggle is working with animals like tigers, lions etc. and some of them get out from their cages we can transform them into a rabbit or something harmless."

There. Smudge free. Setting it nicely at the front of her desk, Ivory went back to taking notes on the five exceptions to Gamp's Law as she pondered the question.

Raising her hand timidly she spoke up. "Perhaps we could use a purifying or filtrating spell on certain small bodies of water to rid it of pollutants and contaminates. Especially in some of the third world countries where even sanitary drinking water is a rarity."

Belle copied the five gamp law's into her notebook, at least she got the food one down pact. She was proud she knew some information for a first year. She smiled to herself. Now onto a situation, she was never asked what she wanted to learn before..she thought for a moment..."Professor how about if you are somewhere you need a water goblet and you don't have one, you can use an animal and use verraverto and conjure up one!"

Usually, Chyler quite liked to stick to the books. Learn things off by heart, recite them to her father, practice and execute spells - end of story. Occasionally this would all get extremely dull, however, and she'd try to think outside the box for a more creative way to understand whatever it was the redhead was trying to learn. Eyebrows lifted, she let the professor's words sink in as she reflected back to her previous life, before Hogwarts. She also let the fact that either the professor had ignored her or got her name wrong slide because, quite frankly, when it came to something important, she'd make sure the professor didn't forget her. In the meantime she didn't particularly care.

Anyways ... Hmm. "Professor," Chyler began, raising her hand and her voice so that she could be heard over the light babble, "perhaps if the muggles needed to get from place to place quickly, we could help them by apparating? An example would be if the muggles had a medical emergency and needed to get to a hospital, or if a muggle was drowning and needed to leave the water quickly, etc. I'm actually not quite sure if apparating is transfiguration because on the one hand it is an ability that any wizard should have yet on the other it requires a wand and essentially you vanish. Before, we said that transfiguration was also the vanishing of beings - is apparition a form of transfiguration?

"Of course, I don't expect us to study apparition, this is merely a hypothetical question,"
she added quickly, needing to make sure that after that very special speech (it was rare because Chyler does not make speeches, ever) the professor wouldn't misunderstand her. Focusing her forest green eyes on the Professor, the sixteen year old never the less kept her ears open. Some of the people in this school really did have a brain in their heads. . . A barely there smile graced her face as she remembered the kid who had just recently recited the techniques for apparition instead of Gamp's five exceptions. Granted, he wasn't very clever but the redhead had been entertained by the comment.

Luin wrote down all the exceptions to the law, and then spent some time thinking of the next questions. Hmmm...what was it that had always seemed so odd to her that muggles did, or would need help with. She thought on it for awhile and then raised her hand, "I have noticed muggles always walking around with huge bags, especially when they want to go to other places far away (and the way they get there is peculiar as well), but anyways. I would think of using an Undetectable Extension Charm on a bag for a muggle. They would definitely be helpful. Or perhaps Transfigure it so that it is much more practical for their use, perhaps an animal that could just carry their stuff or something."

Hyun pouted his lips when the professor told him to leave the chair whole. He nodded his head.

Yes, finally the lesson really started! Hyun had already let his wand fell out of his holster and held it in his hand. He was however, pouting again when he heared they weren't going to be doing magic...just yet , hopefully. With a sigh, Hyun holstered his wand back in his wristholster.

Ok so trying to think of a situation in which to help a muggle....wait... Help a muggle? Ewwww "Why on earth do we WANT to help a ...muggle?" Hyun's voice filled the classroom and he wasn't ashamed to tell. Hyun didn't like muggles and he knew nothing about them. Ok that's a lie. He did know a few things but not everything! Luckily for him the law was still saying to keep magic unnoticed from muggles.

Despite not liking helping out a muggle, Hyun still wanted to do his best. So he thought of a situation. He thought and thought while meanwhile he started to lean back in his chair, folded his arms over each other and with a slight frown on his face. And yes, he unconciously started to rock the chair again. It was a habit, he especially did it while thinking.

"Uhm we can use magic in front of a muggle when..." Some more thinking and chair rocking. "When a muggle is on a rooftop of a house and someone stole the ladder! We can then transfigurate an object in to a...ladder" Ok truth is, Hyun is good at Practical Transfiguration, Not Theory. Also he was starting to get bad at balancing. Hyun gave a yelp when he felt the chair slip and he landed with a

BAM!

On the ground. Mumbling curses under his breath, Hyun quickly stood up from the ground and pushed the chair upright again. He checked the chairs legs and rolled his eyes. "Not even a leg is damaged!" He sat down on the chair and remembered he was in class.....

Fallon had totally spaced out and missed a lot of what was going on. Once she finally came back to the class, and this class was sure to be fun. Hmmm...what would she do to help muggles...

After thinking for a while, Fallon raised her hand. "Well Professor Magnus, I think it would be a good idea to help Muggles be more productive in their jobs. Especially in office jobs. Maybe do some spells that could make there work go faster." Now that she thought about it, she hadn't really thought that through before she said it outloud. Oh well.

"If I was with a muggle who was injured out in the wilderness, like up on a mountain or something, I think it would be a good idea to be able to magically create a fire hot enough to keep them warm if it was in winter. Because if they were already injured in the winter time it would be bad enough without them and you getting hypothermia if you have no tinder or anything to create a normal fire with." Sakura volunteered, not really sure why she was speaking up in the lesson. Generally she just liked to be ignored during classes. She kinda liked not being noticed by people.

Nika looked in front of her and finally noticed the card sitting up on her desk. What was she supposed to do with it again? She looked around and saw that the other students had written their name, year and house. So Nika grabbed her quill and did the same.

"That should do." she muttered to her self. She had gotten a few ink smudges on the card, but she wanted to pay attention to the class so she wouldn't fall behind. Nika listened to the proffesor's question and tried to think. Hmmm... What could she use for muggles. She thought of situations that she found herself in when she did not know of her magical abilities. "Well...," She started. "What if a muggle was in a tickle fight or something. And the person the were tickle fighting against had them so that they couldn't move their arms. We could help them by using the Rictusempra spell and tickling their opponent." Nika wasn't sure what else to say. Many others had already said thing she was thinking of like conjuring water for them or something. And she was one to think outside the box. Nika wanted the professor to remember her somehow. And whose to say that a muggle won't get into a tickle war. She used to have tickle wars all the time and she always wished there was someone to help her win because Nika lost most of the time.

Since everything they were talking about was just review for the young Hufflepuff, she decided to let her legs swing idly as she listened to the conversation continue. It was interesting some of the questions that were asked, but she only just listened enough to keep up with the class, her mind on other unimportant things.

It was when the class turned to muggles that the lesson had her undivided attention. To say Arya was confused at to why all the lessons seemed to revolve around helping muggles when in reality they weren't allowed to would be an understatement. She just didn't get the sudden interest. She wasn't against it in any sense, but she still didn't get it. If anything, it was only disheartening to know they could only speak in hypothetical terms.

It was Sabel's first answer that turned her attention from the other students to him, more to tease him that a patronus is a charm and not a transfiguration spell, but his demeanor and the rest of his response that had her biting her tongue. That...she had no response for that, simply because she knew so much about that response and what hadn't been said. The only thing she could do was suck on her bottom lip and look at him with a worried expression before turning her eyes on the professor and slowly raising her hand.

"I don't know how much help we would be professor. Muggles are perfectly capable of helping themselves, and have done so for a long time." She chewed on her bottom lip thoughtfully, hand lowering. "Most of the things already mentioned they can do on their own and wouldn't need our assistance. Other's situations would make them dependent on us, and we'd have to be around them constantly to help in those cases." She paused when she realized she was rambling a bit and focused on the question posed. "I guess....if we wanted to assist them in anything....that they couldn't already do on their own...we could transfigure them into animals they wish to study....see how it is to live be the creature and stuff." SHE wouldn't want to be any creature, but she knew for a fact that some muggles would. "Though....they could still could become dependent on us for that." Arya frowned at her response, crossing her arms over her chest. This topic just became more confusing.

[COLOR="Black"]OOC: Just be creative here. Have it from your charries point of view as well, so if they don't know much about muggles - it might mean they come up with something weird. Also if you don't know the name of a spell, or it has no incantation, just tell Isabelle what it does and she'll go with that.
"Raven as muggleborn, you knew more than pureblood the necessity of a muggle, what will you do, if there a need you use magic in front of muggle" Raven ask himself in his mind.

Basically wizardkind may use magic in front a muggle, if a life is in question, Raven read it in a book, but he can't remember the title,The muggles basically needs food, they can't duplicate it. Raven got a simple idea. He raised his hand before he speak "Professor, water is a necessity to muggles, we can use the mizorus boru plus aquamenti, then give it to one who badly needed water, because water is source of life in muggle, maybe, they didn't notice us conjuring water, if they haven't take in water in reasonable time".
