Emily could feel her face blush as Professor Vinictus smiled... he was so dreamy. Snap out of it Emily, she thought to herself.
Slowly she raised her hand. "Professor, is it what makes the broomstick work?... so like what makes it fly and react to our instructions?"
Emily felt like an idiot... but it was worth it. She crossed her fingers under the table.

Kurumi was about to respond to Treyen and Salander, when the Professor started the class. "Professor, does it mean how a broom was built? Like, the actual materials and then the charms placed on it?"

"Good Day Professor!" Belle said happily and she went to grab a broom from the shed.

"Jania!" Belle said. She was glad that she found Jania because she loved flying with her. She took her seat waiting for the lesson to start.

Belle answered, " Professor, I think it means that we are going to learn skills to operate our brooms and what the pros and cons are of flying a broom."

Broom Mechanics... Maybe it wouldn't be boring. But the man was still full of himself...Amazing Beater, but a huge ego. Silly smile and autographs and what not.

But that was an easy question that needed a long pointlessly specific answers, and so Jacob started "Well basically, it's the brooms design, the build, and spell work of the broom." he tried to explain it further. "Like say you needed a broom for a seeker, you would want it to be fast, but easily maneuvered, which would have diffrent" Jacob tried to find good words for it. "spell work, and body than say a broom for a Beater, which needs a more sterdy and well handled broom. It's the spell work, but its also the balance of weight through the broom." long confusing answers were good answers.

Vindictus remained standing on the table with both hands on his fist. "Jacob, Kurumi, and Emily - all three of you are correct! Two points to each of your for your answers. Mechanics refers to the design and construction - in our case - of a broomstick."

He was about to say something else when a Hufflepuff student spoke up.

"Sorry, but you are incorrect. What you just stated is the basic definition for flying mechanics. Take a look at the board - we're focusing today on broomstick mechanics."

"Now back to broomstick mechanics!" Vindictus enthusiastically exclaimed and leaped off the table. He pulled out his wand and levitated two identical broomsticks. Slowly, he brought them to a position over the table where they hovered.


"Study these two identical broomsticks for a moment. When you think you're ready, raise your hand and tell us what parts of the broomstick that you can see. Spells don't count!"

Caroline raised her hand "Well there's a handle, footpegs. and the seat" She could think of the actual names for the things. She sighed, her brain hurt. She had too much on her mind.

Emily smiled, good start to the lesson so far. Peering up at the now hovering brooms Emily studied them.... well it seemed a bit obvious to her... so there must be something she was missing.
She raised her hand again, "well there is the broom handle-the long staft... then there is the broom tail... and footholds? for when your racing at top speeds it helps you stay on your broom and provides the rider with more stability?"
Emily wasn't 100 percent sure but it sounded reasonable.

Jacob stared at the brooms for several seconds, obviously he knew all the parts of a broom like the back of his hand, but maybe there was something out of the ordinary with these. "I can see the handle with its nice finish, the saddle, The foot stands" Whatever they were call, "The metal to keep the twigs together, and obviously kept together by that metal, are the twigs which one would hope is clean, neat, and not broken, or they would throw off the entire balalnce of the broom"

Kurumi looked at the brooms. What did she see? Straw...wood? Was that what he was looking for?

Timidly, Kurumi raised her hand. "Some sort of wood...perhaps Spanish oak?" she said in a somewhat shaking voice. "The wood is being used for the handle of the broom...and something that looks like straw for the tail or brush end..."

She really didn't know much about brooms to be honest...

Right. So she'd completely missed an entire question. Brilliant, Sierra. Just brilliant. She started to heave a small sigh but stopped when the professor leaped off the table in...excitement? Maybe? Was he alright? She eyed him but otherwise didn't really say a thing.

She quietly turned her attention to the two brooms now hovering above the table. So what parts could she see, hmm? She could see...all of them, but she guessed the professor wanted a little more details than that. Raising her hand, she said, "Alright, so there's a handle, some twigs, and...a foot rest?" she suggested. She honestly had no idea what the part she put her feet on was called. Foot rest sounded alright to her, though.

Belle sat in her seat and thought, "Oh well at least i tried for a first year." she shrugged to herself. Then she answered this question, "well this in the handle, the foot holds where u place your feet to go top speeds, and also there is a seat to help u sit on, then there are the twigs at the end of the broom which is the tail i think.." she said to the professor. She could be wrong but at least she tried.They can't blame first years for trying.

The Headmaster knocked on the door to the broomshed before poking his head inside. Hmmm... where was...?

Ah. There he was.

"Vindictus? A word?"

Emily jumped at the sound of the headmasters voice... what was he doing here? she thought.
"Hello Proffesor Tate", she greeted him, before returning her attention to the broomsticks.

Kurumi's head snapped around when the Headmaster walked in. "G-G-Good day, Headmaster," Kurumi said bowing her head nervously. Was he going to co-teach with them on how to build a broom? Perhaps teach them some spells to protect their brooms from the Dark Arts?

Well, anything seemed possible the way this term was going.

"Continue with your answers, students while I, um, speak with Headmaster Tate," Vindictus announced to the class and walked over to the door.

He lowered his voice as he addressed Tate. "So, what's up?"

Sierra had just lowered her hand when a knock on the door to the broomshed caught her attention. She turned her head and watched and listened in as the headmaster asked Vindictus for a word.

Bwah haha!

The professor was in trouble, wasn't he?! Sierra knew he'd done something to make him so overly cheerful and enthusiastic--like, maybe had one too many chocolate frogs, possibly? ...and now he had to suffer the wrath of having a word with the big guy!

...they were going to have this 'word' right here in the middle of class, weren't they?!

Nika studied the two brooms. "The handles?" she tried to give an answer. Maybe she should have read on this before class. Why is the head master here? He seemed to show up in quite a few classes... hmm... Thats odd.

"I apologize for interrupting your class. I was hoping to catch you in your office, but my timing seems to be off. How do you feel about... erm... Herbology?" And maybe, if he was lucky, the man wouldn't ask any clarifying questions in front of the students.

Professor Tate? What was going on? This can't be good, the headmaster just don't walk into a classroom in the middle of a lesson just to say hello. This class just kept on getting more interesting. First The professor is this happy, crazy jumping on the table person. Maybe he was in love? Haha Professors in love. That was always funny. But wait why did Tate need a word?

Caroline didn't care. Ok maybe she got curious, and wanted to know what was going on. But she really really just wanted to fly. She knew the rules of flying. She knew the parts of the broom. She knew the safety precautions. She knew how to fly. She wanted to fly dang it.

"Herbology? It's a cool subject. Enjoyed it back in my student days here at Hogwarts and at university. I always enjoyed the lessons on lawn care, weed eradication, and fertilizer," he grinned and folded his arms. "Did you know that the best fertilizer to use on a pitch is dragon dung? That's why Hogwarts' pitch is picture-perfect!" Out of habit, he clicked his tongue against his teeth, winked and flashed his winning smile.

Lexi took a place near Sal at the work bench and smiiiiiled. "There is the handle, the twigs, foot rest thingies.... and I think that is all," Lexi called up with a raised hand as she watched Vindi and Tatertot start to talk. Interestinnnnng.

Nudging Sal gently with her shoulder she smiled brightly at him. Such a cutie patootie.

"Good. Very good. You're teaching it until I can... figure some things out," he patted his pockets for a moment before realizing there was no classroom key to hand over. "The greenhouses are unlocked. Erm. Good luck."

Emily had been day-dreaming about quidditch when she distinctively heard something about herbology, she turned around to the professors standing in the doorway... she hoped herbology wasn't being cancelled this term. She loved that subject.

"Um . . . I'm W-WHAT?" he stammered. "Former professional athlete here. I don't do classes that have textbooks weighing more than 1 pound."

And the greenhouses were unlocked? Including the dangerous one? Had anyone watered or even fed the plants this term? Yikes!

"Please, Max," Tate dropped his voice, his expression serious. "We're in a bind here. Mugwort is gone, and he isn't coming back. We have a hole to fill, and I'm not interested in letting Gevrik do it. Who knows who he'd put into the school?"
