GRRR..... While the Garlic man was speaking, Max turned to Ethan and Hecate. "Can one of you please undo the spell that the stupid git just cast?" he asked in a low voice. |
Chad paused as Tate stood up and made a wonderful and short speech. FOOD. Oh wait...this strange man had something to say apparently. He sat quietly, staring at his plate and his brow furrowing the more he spoke. He was from the Ministry? Chad didn't remember him being there when Reagan was in charge and he was department head. Strange. Chad clapped quietly and respectfully, though not enthusiastically. He had other things on his mind. Like...exactly HOW long would it take to cut all the grass on the grounds with nothing but safety scissors. Hmm... Oh, right, the woman. "I am Chad Stryker. I have been hired to take up the Groundskeeping position. It is wonderful to meet you, Mademoiselle Lafay." Now he was confused, though. "Wait...is there a tournament this year? Oh...non?" |

Text Cut: The maaaan The betterment of all mankind? Sure, free garlic for all. Jared's lips twitched again, but his real thoughts on the matter remained sealed off at the back of his mind. If he found this man a force to be reckoned with, his expressions said nothing of that kind. Open his mind and heart? No, thank you. Now, what about the food? |

Was Casey insane? Clearly. Yes. He had to be. You didn't just go flinging words like 'love' around when it came to women like Anastasia Bunbury, and Caroline Avalon for that matter, as Tate had grown to discover. "I think your regards would be a safer bet." He murmured. Not to mention he wasn't entirely sure that he liked hearing any other man, even one who was his friend and Zan knew it wasn't meant in any particular way, using the world 'love' in relation to his Annie. He fell silent for the... well it wasn't much of a speech, but Truebridge listened all the same. Quote:
"You're welcome to visit me in my new office, Baron." He spoke quietly and politely to the ghost. It would be good to renew old friendships. Or, well, associations, really. Quote:
Quote:
Oh. "Josephina." Ethan greeted politely and then after a belated moment offered a smile. She was alright, he supposed. Quote:
.... Alright. That didn't sound too ominous. Ethan wasn't about to applause, but he did listen closely, trying to sort through nuances... and naturally he couldn't identify even one hint that the man was anything other than genuine. Not so good at reading social cues after all. Quote:
His attention was caught by Hecate as she whispered at him. Truebridge met her comment with silence and then once again pushed his sunglasses up into his hair, meeting the woman's eyes. "I'm pleased to know that you are building on the foundations I established with the Slytherins, Hecate. More than you know." As long as they were doing well, as long as they were strong, living up to their skills, their ambitions, as long as they were happy, then he was content. "They can learn much from you." Quote:
Hmm? Truebridge turned back to Max, eyed the man's stuck hands and actually let the silence grow for a few minutes while he considered it. "..." Well he supposed so. "Alright." He agreed, and quietly and efficiently removed the little sticking charm. No more clapping, Max, please. |
Quote:
"Thank you." Slowly, he began to flex his fingers and restrained himself from tapping them loudly on the table. What was Tate waiting for? Garlic was finished with his little speech. Trying to make time pass, he turned back to Ethan. "So you're still seeing Annie? You should give the ol' girl a kiss for me, and make sure you use those exact words - 'ol' girl'. If you don't, she won't believe the message was from me." Smirk. |
My deepest, sincere apologies if I jumped the gun :S SPOILER!!: Tatertot, Ikenna, Truebridge, Hectate, Vindictus:) Tate's speech answered a lot of questions he had about the strange happenings at the staff table and the ministry member, Mr. Ikenna Gevrik's (if one was to be formal) addition only furthered the understanding. At the same time, there were a lot of shadows being cast about, segmenting parts of Hogwarts from the student's eyes. It was in the strange repressed authority that seemed to come from Tate and the presence of this new man that most of them were cast. And he didn't like it. Not one bit. But Tate had asked them to make this man at home, and while he couldn't bring himself to just welcome him with open arms as Mr. Gevrik requested, he could make an introduction and a point. He just had to keep in mind what he had learned all these years and lock his tongue on some choice words. Reaching the staff table, he couldn't help but smile at the familiar faces. Lafay was first, and despite his rough relationship with the woman in the past, a new year required a fresh start. And an apology, but that could wait. Instead he managed as best of a polite nod as he could. "Professor Lafay." Unable to think of much else to say to here at the moment, he turned his attention to the next staff member. Truebridge, to whom he gave a polite nod of the head. It had been a while since he had seen the man, but he wouldn't forget the one that saved him from Huxely's fireballs. "Professor Truebridge. It's wonderful to see you at Hogwarts again this year." His eyes went to Vindictus and he had to repress the urge to blatantly comment on the change in the Deputy's position. Carefully was okay, provided he could manage to portray his honest disapproval of the whole rearrangement without outright insulting the ministry official. "Professor Vindictus, always an honor to be in the presence of a man who does not base his self-image upon iconic perception." Right handed chairs were overrated; or at least in this case they were. While Tate was next and he offered the man a small smile, he didn't address him just yet. Best for last, or most honorable for last. Plus, one never knew how much the ministry took offence to not being greeted first. So instead he turned his eyes to Ikenna, considering the man for a moment before extending his hand in greeting. "Sir. Sabel Dakest. I just wanted to extend a welcome to Hogwarts, and to assure you that we will keep an open mind and open hearts to the protection of this school and its members. We honor your interest in observing the dedication that the students and staff of this school have in protecting one another. Perhaps you will be able to return to the Ministry with some inspiration. Until that time, we will be glad to shuffle down one seat for you and misplace our elbow space to make room for you to join us." May as well add in a polite bow of the head to top things off before returning to give a more respectful and deep nod to Tate. "Headmaster." There wasn't much more he needed to say right away to indicate how relieved he was that Tate was still at the school and still running things. It also didn't serve to hide his underlying worry for the current situation, but that was a talk for another time. "...Welcome back." |
Quote:
Hmm? Ethan digested this. "Annie and I are still together, yes." Ol' Girl? "Ah. I suppose she... isn't getting any younger." He agreed in a vague sort of way. But then, no less beautiful either. Anastasia Bunbury was like a fine wine. Time only made her better. Though that did imply that there would be a time where she would grow sour beyond belief... Ethan Truebridge sipped his water from his square glass. "I will use those exact words." He intoned seriously, not getting the joke. His eyes went to a Gryffindor. That one had grown noticeably but, after a quick moment of thought, Truebridge realised the boy would be a 7th year now, so it wasn't so surprising. What was somewhat surprising was that Sabel Dakest hadn't, in the past year, said anything to get himself killed. Smart child, but not always so quick on the self-edit. Very Gryffindor. In the good ways, Ethan supposed. "Sabel." He greeted. "Good to see you." |

Tate had promised access though. He refilled his drink. "Made what official?" Official things were not usually good things. Probation had been official. Azkaban, that had been official... ? |
Quote:
"She tolerated the sand in Egypt? Amazing." But then Ethan asked about making it official. "You mean you two aren't...?" Vindictus paused and shook his head. He knew Anastasia Bunbury and she always got what she wanted. Now how to say it without saying it. He leaned forward with his elbows resting on the table and began to speak. "Have the two of you discussed any, ahem, future plans?" he asked all the while playing with the thick band of gold on his left ring finger. |
Quote:
Naturally. More money meant more shoes. Aren't? Aren't what? They were together, so what could they not be? Maximus Vindictus was a very odd man. Future plans though, "Yes." Ethan paused. "Next saturday, we're going over to the reservation. Theres a Horntail due to give Birth and Annie wants to see." That was in the future. True to form, Ethan Truebridge did not notice Max fiddle with his ring. He poured himself another glass of water and sipped on it in silence. |

Her dark eyes widened slightly at his almost joking words regarding their jest abotu her teaching him her specialty, however. She hadn't thought he was like her, beyond the already decided flip-side ability. He didn't seem like he knew she'd been thinking that, but it was hard to tell. Just like the laugh had been hard to determine. It hadn't seemed entirely put on, but she could have been reading things into the matter. "That is completely true, and I'll promise right now that I'll try not to throw you out of my tower," she said, accompanying it with another wry smile. The likelihood of that happeneing was slim anyway, especially physically. She imagined he could counteract any charms she could use as well, given his subject. It was all hypothetical anyway. Text Cut: Treyen, Ellie and Lily <3 At least the drama with the students was good for one thing. Distracting her from contemplating the many ways she wouldn't be able to vent frustration with Jared's perceived inability to comprehend Divination with ejecting him from the tower. Not that she didn't think she could break through that, just like she could break through the students' disappointment and immature actions. Perhaps not right now, but she would get through to them. She did feel like an explanation might be necessary to the healer, as while the other staff member seemed to accept her words, there was other things beneath it. And that was without using anything beyond the vague sensations at the table, at least the area where they were. She needed to handle the students first however, as it seemed down to her now. She inclined her head at the Hufflepuff boy as he supplied his name with a smirk, first. "Well, pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr. Lockhart. Even if right now we don't seem to meet eye to eye," she said nicely, before regaerding him calmly as he replied to her earlier comments. Part of her hoped he had more promise than the man whose surname he shared, but then that was history. "You're right. You don't, which is why there needs to be a bit of faith," she replied. In her qualifications, if not in her teaching abilities. Both seemed to be tenuous with these two students, with their being upset at Professor Reynolds being gone. "We shall," she concluded simply, when it came to Mr. Lockhart's addition to the mess. At whcih point her attention went back to Miss Stone. Who still seemed the more vocal of the two in her disappointment and sadness. Although she found the silent accusation towards the healer interesting. She hadn't needed that to know her name. She didn't flinch at the continued venting, however. Niether did she say anything, as she had a feeling anything she said would be twisted right now. There needed to be a bit of distance in the matter, from the heightened emotions of the feast, if not everything else. She did wonder if the girl really meant what she said, though, as it made her sound like she didn't think her beloved professor would miss her. A knowing glint crept into her eyes at the agreement to postpone the discussion til later, however. Simply at the thought that she would be without defense. She was never without defense, and her office was her turf. Quote:
Text Cut: ze speech(es) But then it seemed Headmaster Tate had decide to get things rolling, and she turned her attention to the man as he stood to make the traditional speech. After silently hoping the students had all returned to their tables, as she knew the protocol. The addition of the advice against dying was new, though. To her. It was interesting, although, that he'd include it. Good advice, even if it was blunt. She'd wondered about the part about welcoming the new staff, too. Had he noticed the tiny incident? Possibly. The itnroduction of the creepy man who'd taken Vindictus' seat, though. That made her eyes narrow speculatively. She still had her suspicions about the dark man, and now that she knew a bit more she could do her own checking once she was back in her office. Provided he didn't suspect her as well. At least about what she had decided was their similarity. First it seemed Mr. Gevrik wanted to make his own speech, and she settled into her seat again as he addressed the students with one sympathetic look at the Ravenclaw head of house. She'd listen to what he said, do her own silent analysis. As there was definitely hidden meaning in there, even if she hadn't exactly figured it out. Things were definitely going to be interesting this term, and she reached for her glass of water again as it seemed the time for speeches was over. Obviously Mr. Gevrik didn't want applause, so she wouldn't give it. She'd just wait for the feast, and continue to analyze everything that happened. She had her work cut out for her, definitely. |
Text Cut: Renée && Kristiiieeen <3 "It will be." His tones had an air of casual confidence, but no touch of vanity, none at all. "If - of course - it does happen." He didn't think the probability of him showing her around France was zero, even thought it was high since he hardly ever proposed an arrangement he could not commit to, but he'd learned to take every plan in life with a pinch of salt. "Promises are pesky, little things," Jared grinned and, even though he noticed that she had said she'd try not to throw him out, he inclined his head ever so slightly, his way of saying, almost jestingly, that her statement put him at ease. It should be easier to learn something if he did not have to worry about his life. Then again, being in the presence of danger had not hindered his progress in the past. He dismissed the thoughts, choosing to think of something pleasanter, easier. Like the actual conversation. "But I think we've talked enough about Divination, for tonight. Even a professor of the subject must have other interests." Indirectly, he had not only asked her about her interests but steered the conversation to a different topic, and he had a feeling she'd know that as well as he did. |
Quote:
"That they can be," she said with a little laugh as he responded to her promising not to throw him out of the tower. Or try not to, as her words actually had been. She was finding she thougth she preferred him at ease more than otherwise, even though he hadn't seemed too on edge around her. Except for maybe at first when she knew he'd noticed her mental prodding. She'd idly kept it up, but it was getting to the point she didn't really think it necessary. She did think his thoughts were fascinating, however. Even as it seemed he knew he needed to channel them in different directions, which earned the slightest raise of an eyebrow. She shrugged in response to his change of topic, though. "Of course. Layers are so much more interesting on a person than being one-dimensional. I'd imagine you have more interests than Charms as well. Well, and manticores,' she added with another laugh. The animal certainly had been in his thoughts quite a bit. But she was going to make him work a bit harder to figure her out. |
Aaand I go off, for now. ^__^ Text Cut: Kristiin <3 Faith. Jared did, in his easygoing, detached sort of fashion, have faith in himself and his ability to entertain people, but he had never really thought about it. His confidence usually stemmed from knowing how to handle things, rather than any belief that he could handle them. "This one sounds like it has enough loopholes to make both of us feel safe, however," he offered, a lazy little grin on his lips. He could think she'd refrain from throwing him out, she could know that she had only said she'd try. Not a bad deal. Ah. Manticores. She had finally said it and, in doing so, confirmed at least one aspect of her personality. Jared bowed his head for a second, like a little child caught eating someone else's share of candy, but there was an amused, easygoing look in his eyes. "I do," he agreed. "Some of them being fantastically muggle, in fact." |
last post for the night for me too. ^_^ back later though. Quote:
She grinned at his lazy comment, however. "Loopholes are crazy like that. Next thing you know they'll be tripping us up," she replied with a shrug. She was much preferring the idea of a relaxed situation, over a tense, frustration-filled one. So as long as they continued thinking it was possible, things would roll along quite well. Even if she still thought the likelihood of her throwing him out was slim. The opening that she still had was comforting, in a way. And at least he didn't seem as odd as others at the table that she was choosing to not think of. She hadn't even really thought of her facetious mention of the creature as an admission that she'd gotten into his head, but as he reacted she found herself laughing softly again. As if she'd been caught. Oh well. He was bound to find out at some point, as she imagined she wouldn't be able to keep it hidden forever. "Fantastically Muggle, you say?," she said as he answered her musing about interests. It seemed he was going to be just as forthcoming as she was on that matter. Give a little hint, then sit back and see what happened. It was always fun to see the reactions when people found out about her anyway. |
Jake REALLY couldn't help it. He stood up as soon as Ikea sat down, and this time he kept his glasses on. The man had a way of catching his eye, and Jake did eye contact better from behind sunglasses. "You forgot the dead kids," he added boldly, coming to a halt where he'd stopped before. Why did everyone ALWAYS forget the dead kids? There had been like four in all the time Jake had attended the school. "And sir... no offence or anything, but except for the deaths, which I take the blame for-" well... he had been weak, not fighting that stupid French man who possessed him "-Hogwarts school has always been able to deal with anything in its way." Cue another look over at Tate and Truebridge. Kazi would get one too if he was here. "I believe there was a Tournament last year... nothing went wrong there. Year before; nothing. So, quite frankly, I don't understand why you're currently here. Two years late." His tone of voice was the epitome of expressionlessness. He genuinely was not being rude... he was just rather confused. "The logic evades me." Oh... and what was that Tate had said about being rude? "Sir." |

SPOILER!!: Ikenna Ikenna Gevrik? Special Security Liaison? Yes, Issy was now back to eavesdropping on the conversation between a Hufflepuff boy and the mystery man. Although now he wasn't such a mystery. She knew that name. Erica had mentioned it in one of the letters she'd owled. Something about the Department Head of Security, how he was a pleasant, yet stern man. Alastair of course, wasn't privy to the big meetings, so couldn't supply any information to her. Not that she asked much anyway. Raising her goblet up to her lips, she focussed her attention on that end of the table. Best to considering that the Headmaster looked to be about to make his speech. SPOILER!!: Tatertot Did he just ask them not to die? Interesting take on a speech, but....sound advice nonetheless. Yes, dying was not a good idea. At the mention of new staff, Isabelle turned her head towards the throng of students and smiled broadly. Many at the back might not be able to see her, but the ones near the front might appreciate a warm greeting themselves. She was about to join in the clapping, when she realised that Vindictus was the only one doing it, so refrained. Especially as the speeches didn't appear to be over... SPOILER!!: Ikenna 2 Well he DID seem rather pleasant, Erica was right. Isabelle placed her goblet back down on the table and refolded her hands in her lap. She listened intently to what the Ministry man had to say. Flooding and underground fight club? Wow. The school had certainly had some interesting terms since she left. Even more so than when she was a student. But, of course, she was a grown woman now - and something like that wouldn't have such a fun element to it as when she 15. Again she was tempted to clap, but instead decided to just nod. Don't want to stick out as being the only one. Especially when there was FOOD to be eaten now. |

She was seriously suggesting that she address her as Potions Mistress? He scratched the bridge of his nose distractedly to keep himself from snorting. "Uhm...sorry, Hecate." She had heard of him before? It was possible. He had only been on the front page of the Daily Prophet a year ago. No big deal. It had been an article involving him and the, at that time, Minister for Magic. "It is possible. It is not a very common name," he grinned. |
