| | Ravenclaw Common Room The Ravenclaw common room is a wide, circular room at the top of the seventh floor. Graceful arched windows punctuate the walls, which are hung with blue-and-bronze silks. During the day, Ravenclaws have a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. Overhead, the ceiling is domed and painted with stars, which are echoed in the midnight-blue carpet. There are tables, chairs, and bookcases, and in a niche opposite the door stands a tall statue of white marble: Rowena Ravenclaw. A delicate-looking circlet has been reproduced in marble on her head with the tiny words 'Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure' etched into the diadem. The statue stands beside a door that leads up to the dormitories above. Come in, have a seat and make new friends. Welcome to Ravenclaw! |

Skye walked into the common room, feeling refreshed, cheery, and in a much better mood than she had all of last year. She sat down on a chair close to the fire, so that she could feel its warmth flickering over her face. She took a deep, contented breath, and she smelled firewood, old book paper (but not moldy) and the faint spicy scent of something, most likely something in the fire. She sat back, relaxed, closed her eyes. It felt so good to be back here again.

She saw a girl she was pretty sure that she recognised sitting in an armchair over by the fire. She saw that a chair close to her was unoccupied, so she briskly walked over to it and quickly sat down, being careful not to collapse into it for fear of someone noticing.
"So, did you enjoy your lessons today?" she said meekly as she put her bag on the ground by the feet of the chair. Emily looked up as a girl came and sat in the chair next to her. "Mmmm yes... and no....", she laughed lightly. "It's going well, it's just tiring me out, what with charms, potions, divination and ancient runes.... its just really busy, and muggle studies will be starting in a while. Not to mention the other classes." Emily didn't even want to think about how much homework they were going to get.
She twirled a strand of hair around her fingers. "How about you? things going well?" she asked the girl. "I'm Emily by the way", she added.

Well, at least not that kind. "It figures that Slytherin's got points, when my brother-Slytherin-cost me five because I didn't get to class on time. "Yeah, actually, pretty much my entire family is Slytherin, both of my parents, my brother Nathaniel, my maternal grandparents, and a lot of my extended family. My oldest brother Henry, was a Ravenclaw when he was here; He graduated last year. Everyone in my mum's family who isn't Slytherin ends up shunned and estranged. Well, except for Henry and I, for right now, that is. I didn't meet my mum's parents until my parents got divorced, because my father's muggleborn. They stopped talking to her when my mum and dad got married. I definitely don't get along with them. Nathaniel and I don't get along well either, most of the time. He's a fourth year; I don't think I told you. He's convinced he knows everything and has no responsibilities. And somehow he thinks muggles are lesser human beings than wizards...but I don't get how he can think that, because our grandparents are muggles, you know?
I also have a younger brother, Andrew, who's seven right now, so I'll be a fourth year when he starts.
And I suppose you're right; term only started a few days ago. I just hope that if we don't win the House Cup, Slytherin doesn't. Nathaniel would never let me live it down."

Satine watched the tower wobble and leaned back from the table hoping not to bump it and make it tumble. "Yes I have to agree with you. The schools weren't preparing the wizards for a safe future. It was either turning them into Muggle hated sociopaths or into mindless zombies." she said studying the tower and tapping blocks lightly to find a loose one. "However, I do think that every school should have some kind of manners or some kind of class. I really do think that some girls around here could benefit from learning how to be a lady and that some guys could benefit from learning how to be gentlemen, but it shouldn't be the only focus." she said finally wiggling a piece out from the third from the top row and placing it on top. The tower wobbled again and she held her hands out about a foot and close to the top as if this would keep it steady until it stopped wiggling.
"But enough with the serious stuff, so tell me something interesting about you...like do you have any hidden talents..." she paused and then said, "Well other than being devastatingly handsome..." she said with a really bad accent and a little giggle to let him know she was just teasing him. Paying a visit to the Herbology prof sounded like a good idea. The only thing was, if fate was being mean, they would get all the way down there, negotiate for a plant, and come back up to find everything fixed and the smell gone. Probably. Maybe.
"There doesn't seem to be a particularly high standard for decorum," he agreed. Heck, he'd been saying that for years. Boys walked around randomly punching other boys in the face in misfired bouts of chivalry, and girls... well, he couldn't say overly much about that side, but he was sure it was in sad disrepair too.
The tower was wobbling outright dangerously now, but he still managed to get a piece out. The problem came when he set it on the top. It stayed... for about five seconds. Then the tower tipped and blocks spilled everywhere. Kellen didn't make a particular effort to catch them, past making sure they stayed on the table, and grinned across it at Satine, "Being devastatingly handsome isn't exactly a hidden talent. It's out there for the world to see. Like your purple hair." |

Emily thought about her family, she missed them dearly. "My fathers side of the family were all gryffindors, ... well with the exception of one of my uncles, he was sorted into slytherin. Horrible man. Completely psychotic and nasty. But the reest of my famly are great. My mums side were all Ravenclaws... suppose I take after her a lot." Emily smiled, she loved being a Ravenclaw but she had hoped she might be a Gryffindor. "Either way, I'm just glad Im not in Slytherin or Hufflepuff." "Do you play quidditch?, I'm trying out for the Ravenclaw team. I played in my second year, but then quit so I could focus on my studies."

"Quidditch Captain?" It was lost on Spike. The concept of Quidditch was almost unknown to the young boy, as his parents had little to no interest in the sport. He only knew one snippet of information that made it rather exciting to him (and probably less so to his parents) and his sense of adventure. "That's played in the air, right?"
He so wanted to know how to fly. Like a bird.
"I think so," he said with a bright nod, his mood lightening somewhat with the knowledge that the Common Room wasn't totally out to get him with fire as well as riddles.
Talking of riddles...Spike's eyes widened as the older guy addressed him. "Really?" He pondered it, before he frowned. "Isn't that like...cheating?" He'd rather the knocker just got on and told him, that expected him to go through musty old volumes in the library. Especially when there were most exciting places to explore. And games of Hide and Seek to play. And the Giant Squid to tickle.
"Killy and Kranky are my frogs," Spike answered with a grin. As he did so, he gently lifted the small creatures from him his pocket for the guy to see. "And...Matilda..." He looked across at Ellie sheepishly. "Matilda is my tarantula. If you wanna see her, then maybe someplace else would be a good idea." He had a feeling it wouldn't just be Ellie who didn't like Matilda in this room. And he had no desire in scaring his 8-legged friend on their first night in this new place with girls screaming their heads off.
He tilted his head. Gryffindor? "That's the red, brave house, right?" He shrugged. "I dunno which I should be in. I just think at the moment it's not this one. So I agree on the faulty thing." Jimmy grinned good naturedly, feeling much more relaxed now that there was no Neptune Bott in the vicinity.
He glanced between this Spike kid and Ellie as they talked, and then smirked a little at Spike.
"Cheating? Nah mate, it's research." Stupid Knocker. Jim and the Eagle were not friends.
"Frogs. Epic." Jim eyed up the little guys in approval. And a Tarantula? Awesome. "Yeah, I'd love to see her some time." Definitely. "And I'll introduce you to Rufus. You too Ellie, if you want." Yeah she wanted. She so wanted. And for good reason. Rufus was awesome.
"Yeah. Red and brave." He listened as Spike agreed and then warmed to his subject. "I reckon theres probably dozens of us. Dozens that have been miss-sorted and will now be stuck with the stigma of the wrong house forever. Doomed to be held up against standards made for a mold we don't fit. Doomed to suffer. Our talents ignored or derided, our weakness measured up against the strengths of our so called peers."
Tragic. It was so very tragic.
"And all because of an old and senile hat that's past its prime, fraying around the edges and smells like rust, mothballs and unwashed hair."
Yes. Jimmy had sorting hat resentment, and he had it bad. Quote:

Geeeeeeeeez. "Three. Including myself." She didn't believe it. It didn't seem that little until you were asked, apparently. "You should do that more often." Jim commented.
"Three?" Wow. "That's..." Not many. At all. Not much of a team then. "Might have to try out myself then." Yep. Might just.

She put both hands out to try to keep the blocks from sliding off the table and grabbed one right on the edge. "Well the best part is it falling and watching the other person's face as it falls" she said through the giggles.
She reached both hands out and started sweeping all the blocks into a centralized pile. She grabbed three and started building the base as she talked and rolled her eyes at his comment, " Well I guess you do have a point...handsome disease isn't very hidden but not many people have it and it's not contagious..." she smiled, " Yes purple hair isn't a hidden talent at all but it makes it easy to spot me in a crowd." she said cocking her head to the left.
When she was done making the tower, she asked, "So you want make this more fun and," she said as she flicked her wand at each row, " play it the Wizardfied way with charms on each row?" that should make it interesting and loud and way more fun.

He helped her rebuild the tower, "Is it a disease then? Maybe it's a recessive trait instead."
Wizardified. Was that even a word? Still, Kellen nodded, "Sure. How do the charms get activated?" And what would they be, for that matter? Part of him wanted to ask the second question out loud, while the other part thought it would be more fun to just wait and see. |

She thought about his comment, " Well disease or trait...hmmm...good question...I think boys looking good is a disease for girls and vice versa for girls looking good...I mean it could make everyone around you just sick." she said laughing as she hoped that made sense...yes it was rambling on but it made sense in her head....right?
She finished putting a charm on each layer and then met his eyes, " Simple...when you pull a block from that layer...BAM!...you get whatever that layer has to throw at you....I just used a charm my mom taught me that just puts a random charm on the pieces...we've never had any bad ones shoot out at us...more like water spitting, and bitting blocks, and jumping blocks and such...Are you picking up what i'm putting down?" she asked to make sure he understood what she was saying.
She glanced at the tower and then at him... "You first or me?" she said with a smile but a little nervous.
Then she realized, " O and you skirted my question earlier...you still owe me three interesting facts about you..." she said with a nod as she stared at the tower mapping out her plan.

I played in my second year, but then quit so I could focus on my studies." "Well, my mum. Sort of. I wrote her and told her that I was in Ravenclaw, but I haven't gotten a letter back from her. I honestly don't think she'll be pleased. And I haven't seen my dad in years, so I don't know what he'd think. I don't think he would be unhappy though, I mean, he was pretty supportive of Henry, I think." She chuckled, remembering the rest of what Emily had just told her.
"I'm nothing like my mum. Basically if you take my personality, and think of the opposite, she'd be their best friend. And what's wrong with Hufflepuff? Some of my family is Hufflepuff. My uncle and his wife, at least. I've only met them though. But their son will be in the same year as Andrew at Hogwarts, so maybe I'll get to know them better." Her thoughts began to drift off, onto her stressful family situation, and she ran her fingers through her hair. After a minute she answered Emily's last question:
"I haven't ever played Quidditch, but I love watching it. It'll be great if I get to watch you play for us!" Quote:

Charms is the one I understand the best, but that class is annoying too because none of the other girls will shut their traps about Professor Descoteaux," she groaned in response.

"Mmmm theres nothing wrong with Hufflepuff... it's just less desirable if you know what I mean. I mean Gryffindors are brave and strong and are a popular house... the other end of that is Slytherin, pure-blood rich jerks, but again they have their own popularity. Ravenclaw are brilliant and bright"... she smiled here... " and then Hufflepuff... just well their Hufflepuff."
"I hope you're mum writes back soon. It would be good to know you have her on your side. Should let your older brother know as well. I'm sure he'd be proud of you."
Emily stiffled a yawn, she would need to get a nap soon before quidditch try outs began. "Quidditch is great, I would love to be on the team, but only if I'm good enough. Ravenclaw needs a good team this year."

We aren't pureblood, and we..well now that my mum's family is part of the picture again we're quite affluent. And in Hogwarts history, two of the most significant Slytherins were half-bloods. Sort of ironic, considering....
Well, anyway, the attributes for Slytherin are ambition, cunningness, leadership, and resourcefulness. Honestly, that doesn't sound bad to me. And Hufflepuff? Hard work, tolerance, loyalty, and fair play are priceless," she retorted.
"I know Henry is proud of me......And I'm sure you'll do great at tryouts. If you were good before, I'd bet with some practice you'd be wonderful," she said confidently. "Maybe you should go sleep some, though. You seem really tired," she suggested, shrugging her shoulders and directing Emily a small smile.

Emily nodded and stood to head up to the dormitories. "I'll see you around Charley", said Emily as she headed of for a nanna-nap.

Long day. Loooong day. Ellie came down from the girls dormitory and plopped down into a chair. She sighed and stared at the wall. Exciting. She looked at her hands and twidled her snake ring reminiscing about... the memories.

Emily nodded and stood to head up to the dormitories. "I'll see you around Charley", said Emily as she headed of for a nanna-nap. "Okay, see you later. Hope you have a good nap," she replied, sending off a friendly smile. Seeing Emily walk up the steps to the dormitories, she reached into her bag and grabbed textbooks to review, wondering where JP ran off to. She really needed to study Divination, but she would need to go to the library, and was too tired. She didn't even want to get out of the armchair she was in; it was comfortable, she was by the fire, until dinner was called she'd be content. Since the chair was large, she was turned perpendicular to its back, had her legs bent, her feet dangling over the right arm and her copy of Futhark Runes sprawled, open to Chapter One, on her lap, with the spine on the crease between her thighs, and the grade 1 standard books of spells tucked underneath her right leg. She leaned to her left carefully and pulled her bag up, setting it on her lap and removing her notebook and a pen, one of the many she had from her father, knowing that it would be easier to take notes with than a quill, especially while lying on a chair. She put her bag back on the ground next to her and began scribbling notes.

Finally, when she though Enya'd had enough, she broke her gaze and let it shatter on the floor, forgotten. "Yes," she said coolly. "I forgot how much you hate me."
