"It's the law..." She told him.

Sabel's frown deepened. Some part of him knew this was a lost cause of conversation before he even spoke, but that one part that he couldn't ever seem to suppress reigned supreme for the moment. "That's not a good reason for letting people die."

Honest intent, bad tactics. "It's the law that underage wizards cannot cast magic outside of Hogwarts, but if I had the chance to, if I could have done so to save my mother, I wouldn't have hesitated." If he hadn't been an idiot and forgotten his wand. "There has to be some way we can help. Some way we can leak it. They don't even have to know it's from wizards."

Hecate looked at Sabel. Had she been a more outwardly loving woman, she'd have hugged the boy. Maybe caressed his head and told him it was alright to cry if he needed. But at it was, she was not. Nor would she ever would be.

"Believe me when I say I fully agree with you, Master Dakest. The law is antiquated and needs re-writing. I would suggest you go speak to Mr. Gevrik... He..." how could she say this, "He is a ministry official... I'm sure if you spoke to him, he would be able to do... something."

She then cast a silencing charm so just he and she could hear what was said next. She pulled an envelope from her drawer. "I have an assignment for you. There is a Slytherin first year who is having an issue. She was raised a pureblood and has been having some issues understanding... muggle... things. Her name is Sierra Greingoth, her picture is in that envelope. You may have met her in my class. Master Dakest, she wants to learn and I'm asking for your discretion here. This should just be something between myself, you and Miss Greingoth."

Kurumi listened intently as the older Gryffindor boy and Professor Lafay talked about the potions they had brewed. She found herself nodding as he spoke about wanting to help non-magical people. If their abilities could help those suffering and save lives...wouldn't it be better for them to do so instead remaining in the shadows.

Kurumi was about to voice her opinion when a very loud buzzing noise filled her ears. Wait, was there a bee in the room?! Or, perhaps it was something worse...perhaps one of the next lesson's potions ingredients had gotten lose and was now buzzing around the room with is venomous stinger! Kurumi's head snapped in all directions trying to figure out where the noise was coming from, but she couldn't seem to find the source.

While her head snapped around, Kurumi thought she saw Professor Lafay show the Gryffindor boy something, but she was too concerned with the buzzing to have really noticed.

"Mr. Gevrik has the emotional range of a fork and the understanding of a sugar spoon." Sabel muttered as he turned his eyes down in a frown at the paper. No, he really shouldn't be speaking about anyone that was his elder in such a way, especially to what seemed like a fan of that elder. He attempted to reign in his statement though his voice was still tight and unimpressed. "We don't exactly see eye to eye." Should he even dare mention the threat he had received? Probably not. They had parted on better terms than they had been upon introductions, but he still did not trust the man or offer any favor of impression to him.

He was drawn out of his private thought's by a rather strange alteration to the pressure and composition of the room, but it was Lafay's voice that snapped his head up and his eyes narrow. An assignment? From Lafay? He listened quietly, albiet suspiciously to the disclosure, the comprehension (mainly granted by Kurumi's head turning) that a silencing charm had been cast around the room bringing no form of comfort. It sounded harmless enough, but then... "Why is this such a 'secret' matter?" There were plenty of purebloods that could afford to learn a thing or two about muggles; he had heard them in class. He didn't want to hear their opinions again. That wasn't to say he wouldn't help this girl, the presentation of the request just seemed strange.

"He is the person you will need to speak to if you want changes made to the ministry. I don't have the minister of magic's ear... He does." She said and shrugged. This topic was over in her head. If he wanted to do something about it, he'd talk to Ikenna.

"It is a secret because I am asking you to keep it such, Dakest." She said starting to get irritated. "If you had a flaw, you wouldn't want too many people knowing about it, would you?" She asked.

Despite everything that had happened in the past few hours, despite the moral conflict that had been ignited within, Sabel couldn't help but laugh. Honestly and earnestly laugh. Amusement and a sort of fondness touched his eyes as he looked across at the Professor. "I am not perfect, Professor Lafay, nor would I ever pretend to be. I have many flaws. And I don't mind people knowing of them, because they are part of what makes me who I am."

Shaking his head a little, he retrieved the envelope from the Professor. "I would be more than happy to help, but not to rectify any flaw. Simply to offer another perspective from which she may view the world." As far as he was concerned, a lack of knowledge about muggles was only a flaw if one displayed ignorance and prejudice about them, which this girl did not sound like she was capable of doing.

His smile wavered before disappearing as he looked down again at the parchment of notes on her desk. "If...I could, may I leave that with you? I don't trust myself to not break the law while it's in my possession." Temptation and all that.

She shook her head. "You are being taught for a reason, Master Dakest. You are to retain the information. We may have a poison class... you know killing is against the law, but there are certain things about the poisons you need to know. If I were to deprive you of that knowledge, or any knowledge, I wouldn't be a good teacher. It is up to you to know right from wrong and how to act on it." He stood and opened the door for the boy. "That'll be all."

The frown crept slowly across his expression once again as he hesitantly gathered up the parchment. How was he supposed to know right from wrong when morality dictated things one way and the law another? Things simply didn't seem so clear cut black and white. Still, Lafay had been more than generous in speaking to him, and he wasn't going to push his luck or her patience. He had to learn to stop doing that and he was going to start now.

Pushing himself to his feet, he tucked both the parchment and envelope in his pocket giving Kurumi a quick nod before heading to the door. He paused only to give Lafay a respectful bow of his head and a quiet 'thank you for your time' before slipping out the door and back into the hall.

She nodded to Sabel and watched him leave and then stared at Kurumi. "Hollingberry... do you have something else? Or are you on your way out and I can call the next student?"

Suddenly, the annoying buzzing noise had stopped. Had whatever it was gone out a window? Considering the serious lack of open windows, Kurumi doubted it.

"Sorry, Professor," Kurumi blushed. Now the woman probably thought she was insane along with being a nervous wreck in front of her. Kurumi couldn't help but wonder what it was that the Potions Mistress had down the older Gryffindor and then what he had just handed to her. Why was this year full of so much confusion and mystery? "I think that is all. Sorry about class..." she said lowering her voice into an embarrassed whisper. "Killing creatures, even for potions ingredients, is not something I am comfortable with. I-I'll try better next time." Care of Magical Creatures was one of her favorite classes after all.

She closed her eyes at the little stutter. It was an improvement, but it was still there. "Yes. Try Better. Be careful walking to your common room, Miss Hollingberry. Stay close to Master Dakest."

She heard the hubbub in the corridor and frowned. "Unless the school is on fire or flooding Master Carter, you will wait your turn or you can come in with the others. and I'll cast a Muffling charm on our conversation. So... Miss Draven, Miss Browne, Master White and Master Carter, come in."

Emily entered Professor Lafay's office. After glancing aorund the room at all the jars of potions ingredients and animal parts Emily moved to stand behind Professor Lafays desk.
"Thank you for seeing me Professor", she said.
Emily was a bit uncertain as to whether she should just state the reason why she was here, or wait till she was asked....She decided to wait.

"Well?" She said sitting in her chair, Most professors would ask what they could do for the student, or how could they help... Hecate on the other hand wasn't as nice... "Why are you here?"

Emily gulped nervously as Professor Lafay addressed her from her seat, she was definately intimidated, but she respected Lafay none the less.
"Well Professor, as you might be aware, I am in my seventh year... and well I was going to pursue a career as an auror.. but now I'm thinking I might preffer something which involves potions. And it is one of my favourite subjects" She paused, uncertain as to whether or not she was making sense.
"Plus, you are the potions mistress after all... I would assume you might be able to help me. Give me some advice, things to consider..." she added.

After the Ravenclaw girl who he did not know, Josh walked in the office with an excessively confident attitude and stopped right before the woman, next to the Ravenclaw. As the woman spoke to the girl, the boy waited his turn impatiently as the professor told him to do yet it was really hard for him to deal with this impatience. He was feeling like he could jump forward and blurt out what he was thinking of any moment.

Yet inside his mind, he fought this instinct hard and remained where he stood, just staring at the Potions Mistress with a warm smile on his face. Then he wondered how she was going to react what he was going to ask for but could not think of any answer for it. It was a complicated case. Very complicated indeed. Plus he was going to see the reaction sooner or later. So...patience Josh Carter!

*stare*

"An auror must know his potions in and out. You must receive a high scoring Potions NEWT to even get into an interview for Auror Camp. But if you are looking for other alternatives, St. Mungo's Internship program needs tatented potioneers to become healers, and there are many freelance potioneers that need apprentices. That's how I started." She told the girl.

She wrote on a parchment the name of two potioneers that may be able to take her on after graduation. "If you are determined to solely work in potioneering, owl these two people, tell them I suggested it, and ask them their availability to meet with you." and she handed the girl the note.

"Alright Carter..." She said casting a silencing charm around them. "Spill it, no one can hear us.." She told him.

No one can hear us....

That was good. Because the Gryffindor surely did not want the whole school know what he was going to ask Lafay and hear any comments about it from any student. That would definitely make a certain person mad at him.

Fixing his dark brown eyes at the Professor, Josh took a deep breath before he stepped closer to the woman and looking pretty confident, so sure of himself, he began to talk. ''This is a very important issue, Mistress Lafay. Almost vital for me. I want you to know that i need your help for that issue and believe me i'd never ever come here and bother you if i didn't have to do that.''

Pausing for a moment, the boy looked up at the dark ceiling then back at the woman ''I...'' she did not look like the most considerate and compassionate woman he had seen but he was going to ask it no matter what. ''...promise i will do anything for you if you would agree to help me with it. Anything.'' now it was the time for it...


''I need to protect...someone from... well...someone or from anything, Mistress Lafay. I already protect her in the whole school but there's a serious problem. You know i cannot enter or have a look at inside the Slytherin Common Room and i am aware that soon there'll be a threat for her in there. I cannot let anyone harm her physically or else. There's no one else who can be considered trustworthy among them except her. So, i cannot ask anyone's help but yours. Now, would you help me?''

He did not know if those words were going to cause him trouble, but Merlin knew, he did not really mind it.

Emily took the note Professor Lafay handed to her. She down at the two names before folding the parchment and putting it into her robes. She liked to have options. Though it was likely she might not need them. Her family, particularly her father, had their hearts set on her becoming an Auror.
"Thank you for your assistance Professor",she said smiling.
"Have a good day", she said as she exited the room, leaving her and the gryffindor boy to discuss their business.

Standing with his hands behind him his back against the wall Michael waits his turn to speek with the potion mistress

"Who are we talking about here? And I assure you, all Slytherins are under my protection..." she said. "If one of them is in mortal danger, I need to know now."

"Hmm... You as well Miss Browne." That was easy...

ooc: I can actually give you the name of two potioneers to owl, or you can make them up yourself and control that.

"Go on, Master White..." She said to the boy.

Now, that was a question that he was not sure if he should answer. He knew it was pretty easy to figure out if she wanted to do it herself but he doubted she'd bother about it. Since he could not decide, no matter how much he thought over it, to answer or to hide it; the Gryffindor preferred to comment on her other words instead. They were quite important, too.

''Under your protection'' so he repeated narrowing his eyes some. This sounded a little bit comforting but something inside him was still forcing the boy to think that even this was not fully reliable. Yet the other half of his mind was telling him that it would be a very stupid thing to do if he ever thought that his skills to protect her would be better than Lafay's.

Aaaand mortal danger!!!! No, he did not want to even think of that. ''I don't know if there's a mortal danger'' Josh said, now trying to get rid of his robe because he felt like he started to sweat though that place was known as a cold one. ''I'm not sure if she is in danger now. But i feel like there will be and i want to prevent even the possibilities. Really Professor, you have no idea.''

Ah, now should he mention that? Yes, he thought so. ''I can't even stand the smallest thing that would make her upset. Umm...the day Headmaster Tate kicked me out the DADA class, he kinda scolded her after taking points from her and asked her to get out, too. I saw it made her unhappy before i left. And...'' now maybe this was going to get him in trouble but he was going to tell her anyway ''...i have been planning to bother Professor Tate ever since.''

Once he uttered those words, Josh finally managed to get rid of the Gryffindor robe and put it on a random thing without looking at where he put it. And it was the moment he decided to tell Lafay who was the girl. ''She is Evelyn Flores.''

"Shepard." She corrected him.

Her eyebrow rose ever so slightly. As much as she and Tate didn't get along, the man would die himself before seeing any one of his students hurt. "Her name is Evelyn Shepard, Master Carter. And if you know not of mortal peril, then she is fine."

It's odd how the kid came to her for protecting the girl she herself set on fire three terms prior. "I can assure you that I will keep a watchful eye over Miss Shepard, as well as all her housemates. You need not worry while she is in the dungeons."

''Shepard'' the boy murmured as he loosened his red and gold tie a little. Was not this Destiny's last name? When he had first met Evelyn her last name was Flores. He did not know that she joined Destiny's family and took their name. As any properly working brain can figure out, this meant she had left her family. The question was...why? Or perhaps she had not left her family but had been disinherited by them just like his mother. Yet why had she never told Josh anything about it? When Lafay repeated that her name was Evelyn Shepard making the fact that the Slytherin girl never bothered to tell him though he thought they were pretty close to each other more obvious to the boy, his usual confident attitude left him in a sudden leaving an apparent disappointment inside him.

''Evelyn Shepard, i got it. There's no need to repeat it. I am not an idiot'' he said not really knowing what he was saying or not being aware of that he was not talking to a Professor properly for he was quite upset right at that moment. However he still believed that how he was feeling or what he was doing was not more important than Evelyn's safety. So, he tried to ignore his own feelings and thoughts, instead he focused on what the Mistress was saying.

And the woman believed that the girl was fine unless there was a matter of mortal peril. While the Gryffindor listened to the rest of her words, he nodded slightly and finally undid his tie, too. At least the Mistress kind of promised to keep an eye on the girl. Actually this was not fully satisfying for him but he knew he had no choice but to trust Lafay. ''Thank you, Professor Lafay'' so he said playing with the tie in his hands ''Sorry for taking your time for a personal issue like that. I honestly don't know why i am doing it''
