Jared's not big on formalities, but he likes a certain sense of decorum if possible. The door of the office is highly polished and, once you enter, the place carries the faint but lingering scent of expensive perfume. There's nothing special about the interiors - a big desk full of all sorts of drawers one can't see sits at the far end, facing a pair of high-backed chairs.
The only interesting things are - and perhaps not even those are interesting to the average person that enters - a medium-sized bookshelf full of old tomes, and a display that contains some of the things Professor Descoteaux has picked up on his travels, ancient and new, and gilded and worn-out. The office is enveloped in an invisible net of defensive spells to keep out intruders. There's a sneakoscope on the desk, and it spins all the time, though it has been charmed not to whistle.
Her smile did the same thing as her exclamation: practically go around waving a "I'm Guilty!" sign.
We see right through you, Slytherin.
"Of course you have," Jared said calmly. Had she thought hanging around, looking clueless, after sneaking in that niffler strengthened her case of I-didn't-do-it, or had she intended to get caught? Frowning, he motioned to the open door.
"Do come in and take a look," he said. At the disaster that now reigned supreme in his once-perfect office. Chaos and disorderliness and torn documents, among other unpleasant things.
Perhaps the sight might make her feel some modicum of guilt?
....
Why did he doubt that?
Holding her little Dessi in hand she saw that the niffler actually had a galleon in it's mouth, heh, well she really didn't want this. Rae took it from Dessi's mouth and held it out gingerly before she walked into the room, "I never wanted anything she found, so here." Then she stepped into her favorite professors office.
It's a good thing that Rae was sufficient at concealing her emotions because truth is, she really didn't want to destroy Prof Chaud's office. It was more of a "do what you gotta do" thing. But the way his office looked just from this tiny little thing in her hand, wasn't fair to him. However she knew there was no other way to get what she needed. And she knew this would work.
A part of her really did want to apologize for this, but that would ruin the purpose of her plan. So to cover up that tinge of contrition, she pulled a smirk and commented. "This is quite a nice redecoration. It's very.... Homey." No, she really didn't mean that. Note to self: Explain once you get what you want.

Alice gave Professor Descoteaux another warm smile as he motioned that she was welcome to come in. Taking one of the open seats Alice sat down, before looking up at him. "I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I'm back, and offer my apologies for missing your class. Things at home...well they got a little rough and I was needed there, so I had to go, but I am back now and doing much better." Alice gave the Professor another smile as she tucked a stray piece of dark brown hair behind her ear. She was still getting used to it, since it was such an extreme change from her bleach blonde. "I also wanted to thank you for how understanding and supportive you were when I was here. I really appreciate it, and I'm looking forward to getting back to your classes."
"It's fine," Jared said. "Missed syllabus can always be covered." Before the finals, of course. She looked different, somehow. The hair? It hadn't been that colour the last time she had dropped in, had it? Girls and all the strange things they did. "Are things better?" He asked, as she mentioned having had to return home.
It had been the least he could have done. Jared nodded, his smile faint but there. "And I'm look forward to having you back in my classes."

Don't tell the knocker about that question... Poor ickle Spike already hated it enough.
Heh. "No. Not unsafely. Just in general. With a cushioning charm." Safety first.
Ellie bit her lip briefly before she continued, "My dad bought this for me over the holidays." She pulled the uber cool, shiny camera out of her bag. It was one of those bigger cameras with tons of knobs that she had no idea the function of. Accessorized with a strap for her to wear it around her neck, like a tourist. Heh.
BEAM.
"Of course it is," Jared insisted. "A raven is like a writing table, because neither begins with an N."
And?
"And desks aren't always inanimate." Charms professor, here. Charms.
"So you're telling me that I'm telling you to attempt to throw yourself off Mount Everest in general, after first placing a cushioning charm on the ground?"
His expression turned into a more serious one, though, as Ellie proceeded to bring out the object. The object being... a camera. "It looks fantastic," he said, his smile genuine, for once. "You know how to operate it, yet?"

Never wanted anything the niffler found? That was as good as a confession. "So you just wanted to damage my office?" Jared asked, one eyebrow raised. Forget the galleon. Forget all the galleons in the universe. This office had contained far more important things.
Homey? HOMEY?
"I'm not sure I heard that correctly," He said, turning around to face Rae. The calmer he sounded, the less calm he actually felt.

Prof Chaud's question caused Rae to drop her gaze from his eyes. She looked down, starting at the clutter on the floor because this was something she didn't feel like answering. No, of course she didn't want to destroy his office. But she very well could not have just said 'I just wanted detention with you.' So now, Rae must hide behind the lousy defense of redecoration. LAME
Rae looked up from the floor, raising her shoulders from their slight slump and placed that smirk back on her face. Ready? Lights.. Camera... Action!
"Well I mean..." Rae's voice, almost smug as she plopped herself down on top of the clutter that lay on the comfy chair in the office. Then she swung her legs up over the arm of the chair like she was just making herself at home. "Now it just seems to feel more cozy. Like people have actually been in here." Maybe it stung a little to act this horrible. If only she wasn't on a complete mission. 'This will be better later' Rae thought to herself.

One moment, she looked about to apologize; next moment, she had that giant smirk on her face. Jared frowned, not quite sure what Rae had been attempting to do.
Then she plopped down on top of all those torn documents, and the raised eyebrow shot up even further. Breathe in, breathe out, he instructed himself. She had just made herself all comfortable, arms over the leg of one of the chairs. Breathe in, breathe out, Jared reminded herself.
Cozy? COZY?
"Detention," he said. "You're going to head down to the dungeons tomorrow evening, first thing after your classes finish."

Yeah, her insides felt like they might be splinched, all this acting like she didn't care was exhausting to say the least, and painful. However whatever she had felt before he said the word detention was long gone now. It was like sweet Merlin created a lullaby himself and sent it floating to her ears. Her fake smirk now turned into quite a real smile, unable to contain the excitement. "Shucks" Though she was still smiling as brightly as ever. Rae cupped Dessi in her hands as she bounced out of the office with joy.
One things to say, she will not sleep tonight in waiting of tomorrow's thrilling event.

Blink.
"Neither does Little Professor," Ellie said. Then she leaned waaay forward and looked up at his eyes, squinting, "Are you a raven?" He certainly didn't look like one. Nor a writing desk, for that matter.
Ellie reclined back into the chair. "I've never seen a writing desk animated..." ...Will Little Professor change this? She hoped so!
"Yes," she said with a firm nod. That was precisely what she was saying he was saying.
Heh. He liked the cameraaa!
Uhm... "I know that you press this," point, "button to take the picture. Aaaand, that's about it." Mhm.
Her dad, apparently, didn't think it necessary for her to know much more. Probably best to start with the simple things first.
"Do you know how to operate it?" The fancy buttons and stuff?

No, wait a second. Detention is not supposed to make people ecstatic. Jared's other eyebrow chose to raise itself too, but Rae had bounced off before he could stop her.
He shrugged, deciding to put a stopper in the thinking for now and, locking the door, proceeded to salvage his office.
Never again. Never again would a student get the opportunity to sneak anything animate into his office - not even a spinning top - not if he had a say in the matter. And he did.

"Don't remember saying it does," Jared grinned. The grin lingered as she peered up at him. "No, but you are."
Raven. Ravenclaw.
See?
Even if she didn't look like a writing table.
"And I suspect this is my cue to animate my desk and show you?" Jared asked, grinning lazily. He didn't mind, to be honest. It could be fun. As long as his desk did not decide to, say, walk out of the office and leave him without one.
What? Stranger things have happened.
"No," Jared said, shaking his head quite decisively. "I don't remember even mentioning a Cushioning Charm."
He looked at the camera, and the tons of knobs and buttons. "Not really. Though, if I were you, I'd switch to manual mode." Because it wasn't half as difficult to operate a camera in auto.

Yes. He'd have preferred the difficult settings.
She was a raven?! Uhm.... "If you say so..." Mhm.
Hehe.
"Please?" Pretty, pretty please with a cherry on top? Ellie wanted to see the desk...do something amazing.
POUT...ish? It was more of a smiling pout. "Then I should jump off Everest without a cushioning charm?" And then DIE. And then come back as a ghost and haunt him. Mhm. She'd so do that.
Maybe.
Blink.
"Manual mode?" Ellie raised an eyebrow at him. WHAT WAS MANUAL MODE?

"Why is a raven like a writing desk?" Jared repeated his question. Except that he didn't repeat it. That hadn't been his original question, and he had a fair idea she'd know that.
Was her telling her to unsafely attempt to throw herself off Mount Everest?
Good question.
"Are you telling me that I'm telling you to unsafely attempt to throw yourself off Mount Everest?" Jared asked, feigned shock in his voice. Come to think of it, had he been telling her that?
Nah.
He'd like the Little Human safe, thank you very much.
"Yes?" He glanced down at the bag. Now he was curious. Sure, curiosity had killed the cat, but Jared had the advantage of not being a cat.
OOC: The office destruction RP is in a different timeline. Just so you know.
Jared nodded. "Let me see," he said and, certain that he did have his gloves on, he took the broomstick from Michael and placed it on his desk, tapping it with the tip of his wand. Electric green smoke spiralled out, and Jared frowned slightly.
"It wouldn't be safe to remove the charms placed on this broomstick," he said, tones matter-of-fact as he glanced up at the Hufflepuff. He could do it, but it was highly advanced magic and, that considered, Jared doubted Max had intended students to undo the charms. "It can be done, but it's extremely advanced magic, and I don't think Professor Vindictus intended for the charms already placed on the broom to be removed - they're vital to the broomstick." Vital to its being able to function and be a safe means of transport.
"If Professor Vindictus wants you to enhance these broomsticks, that probably means they're not going to be tossed out of the broomshed just like that, so undoing the charms can mean harm. But the appearance of the broomstick can still be altered, and other spells still added to it, as long as they don't interfere with the mechanism of the protective spells. You're fine, on that front."
*
Yes. He could see the problem. And, for her sake, Jared hoped it was only the constant proximity that had caused her to develop feelings for Legend. Because... you know. Legend Chosen.
Legend. Chosen.
Ehem.
"Perhaps you could give something new a try?" Jared suggested. Some sort of time-consuming activity that took her mind off Legend Chosen. "Mingle more, find other people that share the same interests?" Having close mutual friends didn't help, he supposed. "... and try not to think of not thinking of Legend." The Game. The more you think of not thinking about something, the more you do think of that thing. "Just let it go. Stop focusing on needing to work things out, and they'll have a better chance of working themselves out." In the end, nothing can cure feelings. They come and they go as they like.
"It's fine. I'm sure everything will return to normal." Even if didn't seem that way to her, right now. Though Jared understood she might not find it easy, the Hufflepuff needed to relax.
*
Jared looked up, and found himself pleasantly surprised. Not having seen this particular Gryffindor around the castle for quite some time, he had drawn his own conclusions, none satisfying. For her sake, he had hoped she'd be fine.
"Of course not," he said. "Come right in."

Her smile did the same thing as her exclamation: practically go around waving a "I'm Guilty!" sign.

Why did he doubt that?
Scratching his head " so if I put the hot air charm on somthing else,Then attach it to the broom it should work"allready thinking of a rubber hand grip that could double as a hot air vent," sir could you suggest a book on how to get the hot air charm to do variable temps so the witch or wizard would be more confortable "
Witsy finally made it to the door on her stomach, at least. She knocked on the door, hoping the Professor would be around. The hospital wing was too far at this rate. She took a deep breath hoping to alleviate the discomfort. Her legs were locked and no doubt it was due to some students who were practicing defensive spells. I think I remember the name, but lets not get ahead of ourselves, she thought.
Yes. He could see the problem. And, for her sake, Jared hoped it was only the constant proximity that had caused her to develop feelings for Legend. Because... you know. Legend Chosen.

"I'm playing Quidditch this term, I haven't done that before," Katie offered in response to his suggestion of trying something new. That was new, to her atleast. She had only ever played for fun with her family before. As for mingling.. the Hufflepuff wasn't sure how to go about that, or if she even should. There were few people who would share her interests around here, and probably even fewer she would be willing to share her thoughts with. Deciding against adding that, Katie gave a small nod of her curly-haired head.
Try not to think of not thinking about Legend. Sitting quietly, listening, Katie realized Professor Descoteaux made a lot of sense. It was a lot of good advice, too. She could do that, just let it go and move on. She would do that. "Professor, if you don't mind me asking - have you been through something like this before too?" Because it sounded like he knew what he was talking about. "Erh, and thank you. For getting me to talk and giving me some things to think about, I really appreciate it." The Little Mae added, smiling slightly. Yeah, things were still bad - atleast between her and Legend, - but it would be.. whatever it was going to be, and Katie just needed to accept that.
"I guess I should go and work on practicing that spell," Katie held up the toy turtle a little bit. Practice until she mastered the charm, and then start on homework. Rising from her seat, a little smile formed on her lips. "Thank you again, Professor."

Kyle walked up to Professor Descoteaux's office, she knocked on the door a large box full of disenchanted and perfectly enchantable bouncy balls in her hand. She was there to say thank you for un-freezing here the other day in Charms class, and well, bouncy balls seemed like a nice idea - seeing it was the only thing she had an extensive collection of. She just kept finding them - there were 50 in this box, and another 50 in a box in her trunk.
