The Milky Way Galaxy contains anywhere between 200 and 400 billion stars. A tiny fraction of those can be viewed right here, in the Hogwarts Observatory. This circular room was locked for a long time, but Professor Antares opened it again two terms ago - complete with a huge telescope that was a new addition then. As it is difficult to operate, students need permission from the professor before they are allowed to use it, but a number of smaller telescopes that anyone and everyone is free to use are stowed away in cupboards lining the rounded walls along with empty potion vials and other astronomy items.
Large star charts are pinned up on the walls as well. Not all of these belong to the school. Those that do not have a great number of notes and calculations added to them - although Professor Antares is first and foremost a teacher now, he is still able to supply colleagues with data and measurements. You are, of course, free to study his charts, but make very sure not to remove or misplace anything.
Stargazing, naturally, is an activity best pursued at night, and as such, the Observatory usually remains unlocked. Of course, there are superseding school rules that limit the hour at which students can still be out of bed. If you desire to study the wonders of the cosmos later than that, you need a note from Professor Antares. Should a student be found without such a note (or, alternatively, a creative excuse), he or she can expect... trouble.
In the same way that a library is more than just a building where books are stored, the Observatory is as much a place of scientific inquiry as it is a shrine to the grandeur and beauty of the Universe. Professor Antares, when he doesn't use the telescope for work, often comes here to think to himself, or for some peace and quiet. Please respect him and any other teacher or student spending his or her time here in this way by not running around or shouting.
Following Sophie took a sandwich from Patroclus the basket her friend had brought which had chicken in it. "Yummy, I guess not." Munching on her sandwich since she was actually quite hungry the brunette sat down on the floor next to her friend. As Patroclus commented on what he thought about getting extra points for finding a faint constellation. Shrugging her shoulder's Sophie said "We'll see. It's up to her to decide. It's pretty cool that she could just step in and teach an astronomy class like that. Think there are other professor's here that can tech more than one subject?"
Finishing her sandwich Sophie too bounded to her feet to return to her telescope. Smiling wide she agreed "Finding our own constellation would be so cool but let's focus on the ones who astronomers know about first." Sticking her eye to the lens Sophie moved her telescope from the left to the right until she spotted a constellation with a distincitve double v form.
Searching in her textbook for a moment she matched what she saw to a constellation. Beaming she called out "Patroclus come and see i've found Cassiopeia."
Waiting for him to take a look she asked "Wasn't Cassiopeia a queen in greek mythology?"
As he sliced another slice of cheese, this time a creamy brie, he nodded in agreement with Sophie; "This term especially it seems Teachers from Varying subjects have had to take on others role, Professor Hadley as you said, and then Professor Vindictus covering for the Herbology teacher that according to Aparecium was eaten by a plant" Which the Lion Prefect highly doubted!
"An it's not just temporary aswell, look at Truebridge, he has taught History of Magic, DADA and now Ancient Runes I wonder if you have to be able to teach more than one subject to work here?" It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine, all the teachers were more than capable wizards, teaching a different form wouldn't be all that hard!
Turning his brain power back to the stars, Patroclus peered through his lens to find a constellation when Sophie seemed to have found one first!
Jumping up he moved over to her telescope and gazed through it, "Ahh I see it! It has almost a W like shape!" Listening to his co-prefects next question, Patroclus had to nod "Ah yes, Queen Cassiopeia, the vain queen who though her beauty was unrivaled and who got herself killed by Perseus and his Medusa head!"
Scribling the time down, Patroclus saw how late it was becoming, which meant that the stars would be easier to see now!

Tonight i saw the Ara constellation.Ara is a southern constellation situated between Scorpius and Triangulum Australe. Its name is Latin for "altar". Ara was one of Ptolemy's original 48 Greek constellations, and it is now one of the 88 constellations defined by the International Astronomical Union.
Phew four down one more to go! Now time for some sleep!
... steal? Naaaah. "That's not called stealing," Helena said, a grin spreading over her face. Not even close to stealing. You could steal many things, but definitely not a constellation. Heh.
Between Libra and Sagittarius. Got it. "Thanks," the girl said with a slight nod. But... maybe she had been close. The day before when she found Aquarius and Pisces. So she tried to look again for THOSE two. Maybe it would help her find that stubborn Scorpius. "I think it's running away from me," Helena muttered, pouting. She turned back to her telescope and began to scan the sky.
Again and again.
... and again.
Caroline giggled. "It's not?" She joked. "Oh, boy I got two more to look for." She stood up to strench she had been sitting way to long. She got and walked around. "So Helena how have you been?" She asked Helena.
After a little bit Caroline returned back to her telescope. She decided that she would for something easy.... the Big dipper. It didn't take her long to find it.

"Don't worry, you'll find them," Helena said, smiling, about the two more constellations she had to look for.
"I've been... good," she said a bit surprised, not exactly expecting this question. "But you know, the old 'a lot of assignments' story," she giggled, but then... "How've you been?" A slight smirk spread over her face. Yes, she wanted to know about Carter.
Aaaand just then, Caroline seemed to have found another constellation. "One more to go," she said, turning around as well for a last search for Scorpius.

"This," he said, a bit of amusement still lingering in his eyes. The fact that the whole thing didn't adhere to the rules and regulations in place didn't bother him. He hadn't always stuck to the right side of the law, after all. But that Renée had done it, did surprise him. Though, now that he thought of it, it seemed like the kind of thing she'd do.
Even in her wandering, Renée had noticed Jared's nonverbal response to her contiuing their teasing. And to be honest, she hadn't really expected much less. Once it got to a certain point, the topic almost had to dissolve into silence. It was definitely an amused silence, but silence nonetheless. Not to mention, she'd been able to tell the silence wasn't uneasy or offended. Just understanding, or the amusement factor if nothing less. But as he paid attention to her cruppy, she continued her exploration of the tower. It was amazing how the castle had both stayed the same over the years, and yet changed noticeably. or maybe it was just her that had changed.
Another wry grin met his question, however, as she leaned against the wall to regard them both. Bowie seemed just this side of ecstatic, but then sometimes she thought the cruppy knew he was being discussed. It was just a look in his eyes. "That would depend on your definition," she said idly. She didn't personally think she spoiled her pets, but then it was entirely possible she was too close to the situation to accurately tell. And a soft laugh escaped her at the next revelation. "I can't say it would surprise me. Ellie is, well, determined. She sets her mind on something, it's hard not to cave." Well, except for in her own case, but there were some things the Ravenclaw couldn't really influence. She still had plans of ttrying to break through that wall, though. "Will I ever get the chance to meet the new addition?," she added, still smiling. The thought of Jared with a little tiny kitten was just too adorable, yet amusing, for words. Not to mention fascinating.
The distraction of the kitty didn't last long, however, and she moved closer as the conversation inexorably led toward her admitting to what she'd done. She had a feeling he was both surprised and yet accepting, which was the only reason she was contemplating admitting her failure to comply with every little law out there. As he'd looked back down at her cruppy, though, she shrugged before kneeling down facing him and letting the creature in question scramble up into her lap. "Could you intentionally mutilate a poor innocent baby creature?," she replied, admitting it while not explicitly saying anything. At least her bending of the rules didn't break the statute, as she was diligent in keeping the charm up when Bowie was around anyone other than just herself.

Then again, he found it hard to say no to Ellie, and he had a feeling he might have agreed, even if Ellie hadn't been that determined. He had a feeling Renée certainly hadn't given up all hope of breaking the ice between her and Ellie. She'd probably get to see the as-of-yet-unnamed kitten before long, given the kitten's tendency to follow him quite often. Jared had a feeling if the thing woke up and found he wasn't around, it'd sneak out of the office and search for him. It. Her. He had had to remove the spells that kept creatures out of the place all over again, and he still dreaded the day someone might decide to sneak another niffler into his office. Perhaps he needed to put a niffler-catching spell in place?
She had knelt down too and, for a moment, Jared didn't quite know if his answer was a yes or no. He could. He could do that, given the wrong - or perhaps right - set of circumstances. Even creatures that grew monstrous later could be innocent as babies, and there was magic that could be used, in such cases, that wasn't painful; and knowing that, he couldn't respond in the affirmative. He supposed she'd read that answer in his eyes. There was a pause, during which he looked at Bowie, and Bowie looked back at him. "Not a baby crup, no," he said, looking away from the crup and meeting her gaze.
Freya yawned a few times. Its getting late but she at least wanted to spot one constellation and that constellation was Hydra. She knew that sometimes it took so long until Hydra rose completely.
She sat down for a few minutes to stretch her legs. After she felt her body more relaxed, she went back to her telescope. "Hydra..Where are you?" she groaned. Even though Hydra was one of the largest constellation its a bit difficult to find. When she was about to give up looking for Hydra, the blonde haired Slytherin girl spotted a star who she guessed was the serpent's head. Slowly she followed the stars in the serpent's head till The stars in the serpent's tail. Now she finally got Hydra. She smirked and went to where she laid her parchments and quill.

21.35 - Spotted Hercules. Hercules, the great Greek warrior, can be seen kneeling in the sky for northern latitudes throughout the Spring months. Four relatively bright stars form what is commonly known as the Keystone. Hercules' arms and legs extend from this central square.
21.47 - Spotted Draco, the Dragon. In Greek mythology, the constellation Draco was identified with the dragon Ladon, which had a hundred heads and was in charge of guarding the Garden of the Hesperides, the orchard of the goddess Hera where golden apples that gave immortality grew.
22.17 - Spotted Hydra, the Serpent. Hydra is the longest constellation in the sky and is also the largest in terms of area. It is so long that it takes more than six hours to rise completely.
Samira smiled. Last entry!! Finally. She was getting really tired of dragging herself up to the tower every night.

Jared's reply to her definition-testing gave Renée another moment of amusement, and she gave him another grin. "Official definitions, maybe. But even you have to admit personal definitions have weight on opinions," she replied with a laugh. She knew he was teasing her, acting like he thought she spoiled Bowie, but in the same respect she knew he hadn't really seen much to give him that opinion. Not yet, especially as this was only the second time to her knowledge that he'd seen her with her pet.
His observation regarding her description of Ellie was met with a nod, however. "You're right, but it works under these circumstances,” she said idly. She wasn’t going to say anything about the Ravenclaw anyhow, especially as she knew he already knew her difficulties. It was hard not to, given he’d been a witness to the beginning of the whole situation. Although Ellie avoiding her was oddly a step in the right direction, in some way or another, not to mention the fact that something had broken through with Treyen. So there was still hope. Another wry smile crept onto her face as he responded to her comment about said kitten that had started the conversation, though. “I can work with that.” Something seemed to be bothering him, and she regarded him for a moment as he’d scratched Bowie behind the ears. “Why do I have a feeling I find the whole situation more amusing than you do?,” she finally asked.
The curiosity regarding the kitten had fled her mind as he’d caught her regarding the choice to not sever her cruppy’s tail, and she had a hard time keeping the worry from her eyes as she tried to pass off the question as random. It didn’t help that her response seemed to have triggered yet another moment of contemplation, and she found herself watching him for any reaction at all. It certainly seemed like he was having a hard time agreeing with her, but she imagined she’d been a bit vague. He did have the history with creatures much more dangerous than Bowie, so perhaps that was the only reason for his reluctance. That was better than the thought that he wasn’t answering because he thought she was completely wrong, and she glanced down at Bowie as he did, only to blink as he spoke again. “I just couldn’t approve of it, so I came up with an alternative,” she said finally, relaxing again. Once again she’d gone back to the thought that she wasn’t breaking the statute if it took a professional, not to mention a friend, to see through the charm.

Plus his father seemed to be happy with his life though he, now, knew about the wizarding life. Eh. This was probably not a good topic to discuss with a pureblood witch raised by a wealthy pureblood family. So he was happy when they were talking about Hercules again though it was too much Hercules.
''Yes'' so he said agreeing to the first part she stated about the hero but the other part...hmmm...''Maybe he had a fan club. Sure. It's still unfair, though. He cannot have all the ladies! All ladies should not be loving him!'' he laughed and glanced at the sky again for a moment before turning back to her ''If he lived right now, would you love him? Hmm?'' All ladies included her, too. And Josh was sure she happened to love him, too he would surely complete the thirteenth and hardest task which was beating the Hercules himself. Oh, yes he would do that.

Back to the star gazing. Just like Evelyn did, he needed to gaze at some new point too so he started to look up at the right side this time. Yes, there were many stars as expected! Hehehe. Wait! He was looking for the Serpent. Serpent. Snake. Hiss. What kind of a snake was Evelyn? He had no idea how this question had appeared in his mind yet it was something he had started to wonder now, so he was just about to ask it when Evelyn said the Evelyn-Rose Constellation should have been Joshua Carter Constellation. *smirk* ''No. No. No. I have not completed twelve quests yet'' he said with a light laughter then he fell silent at her next sentence. Huh? Wow! It was not like always he got a compliment from her. That was a compliment right? Saying it was the brightest so he'd be the brightest, right? ''Thank you. But i think, then, it should be OUR star. I have no idea what the name should be though. Hmmm...'' As he was thinking of a new name for their star, Josh continued to stare at the sky and fortunately his eyes spotted a very familiar constellation : The Great Bear! ''Rose, i found one'' he said happily and took his quill to note it.
Oh, by the way, could the she-snake borrow his book? OF COURSE! Picking up the textbook, Josh placed it next to her. ''All yours''

Hmm, now that he was mentioning it, she was beginning to wonder what it’d really be like if they lived in the ancient times. And...with him? Tilting her head to the side, she looked up to the stars, imagining what it’d be like. Or what it could be like. What kind of home would she be born into? Upper class? Lower class? Would it make a difference if she had still met Josh? What would they be doing now if they lived back then? If they both lived back then, she imagined it could be similar to what they lived now. Just a different change of scenery. "You don’t have to live in the older days to have all the gods, goddesses, and legendary 'stuff'. We have our own things nowadays that could be similar." All that history wasn’t completely lost as of yet.
He was right though. If they were muggles, she’d have no knowledge of the muggle world, meaning, she wouldn't be stumbling through it as if she was placed there with the knowledge she had right now at this time. "You're right. I would be an expert muggle." Even if that did sound funny. Smiling ever so slightly, she stared at the Gryffindor out of the corner of her eye before turning her attention elsewhere. Hmm, and if she wasn't, she was sure Josh could help her, like the Gryffindor Knight in Sunny Shiny armor he was.
However, she couldn’t keep her attention away for long. "Would I love him?" she repeated, an amused chuckle escaping her. HMMMM. Would SHE love him? Well actually, she pretty much pictured a nowadays Hercules to look like Mr. Mysterious. On the other hand, she may have been a fan of his, she wouldn’t love him. "No. I don't think I would." She smiled, gaze lingering on the Gryffindor boy. "Besides, I'm not like everyone else."
Staying silent, she just smiled and drew random images in her notebook as she listened to him. Their star? What would their star be named? Meep! Wooot, a constellation AND the book. Quickly writing down...whatever he wrote...the Slytherin girl looked up the draco constellation before looking back to the sky. Meh, she needed the telescope.
One she finally located the set of stars however, she smirked before writing down another constellation. "And... I found the draco constellation." The DRAGON! MWAHA!

Jared's reply to her definition-testing gave Renée another moment of amusement, and she gave him another grin. "Official definitions, maybe. But even you have to admit personal definitions have weight on opinions," she replied with a laugh. She knew he was teasing her, acting like he thought she spoiled Bowie, but in the same respect she knew he hadn't really seen much to give him that opinion. Not yet, especially as this was only the second time to her knowledge that he'd seen her with her pet.
His observation regarding her description of Ellie was met with a nod, however. "You're right, but it works under these circumstances,” she said idly. She wasn’t going to say anything about the Ravenclaw anyhow, especially as she knew he already knew her difficulties. It was hard not to, given he’d been a witness to the beginning of the whole situation. Although Ellie avoiding her was oddly a step in the right direction, in some way or another, not to mention the fact that something had broken through with Treyen. So there was still hope. Another wry smile crept onto her face as he responded to her comment about said kitten that had started the conversation, though. “I can work with that.” Something seemed to be bothering him, and she regarded him for a moment as he’d scratched Bowie behind the ears. “Why do I have a feeling I find the whole situation more amusing than you do?,” she finally asked.
The curiosity regarding the kitten had fled her mind as he’d caught her regarding the choice to not sever her cruppy’s tail, and she had a hard time keeping the worry from her eyes as she tried to pass off the question as random. It didn’t help that her response seemed to have triggered yet another moment of contemplation, and she found herself watching him for any reaction at all. It certainly seemed like he was having a hard time agreeing with her, but she imagined she’d been a bit vague. He did have the history with creatures much more dangerous than Bowie, so perhaps that was the only reason for his reluctance. That was better than the thought that he wasn’t answering because he thought she was completely wrong, and she glanced down at Bowie as he did, only to blink as he spoke again. “I just couldn’t approve of it, so I came up with an alternative,” she said finally, relaxing again. Once again she’d gone back to the thought that she wasn’t breaking the statute if it took a professional, not to mention a friend, to see through the charm.
Her response elicited another grin from Jared. "Maybe," he said, the teasing hint that she had spoiled Bowie still in his tones.
"Under circumstances in which I must, against my better judgement, keep, look after and provide for a small critter that believes my robes are there to be chewed on?" The exaggeration was exactly that - an exaggeration - and it made him grin lazily, despite his feigned shock at the thought that she could call someone that had actually made him agree to all of the afore-mentioned points, 'determined.' And it seemed she had chosen not to take the matter of breaking the ice further and, gauging her thoughts, Jared let the topic drop. Despite Ellie's determination, he had a feeling Renée'd manage to bring the Ravenclaw round, but she'd do it in her own good time. He glanced up from her the crup when she spoke again, considering her question for a moment. "Maybe because you do?" He said, smiling wryly.

There might have been a touch of a teasing in that statement, and he smiled as he said it. He was reminded of something she had told him at the beginning of the term, that she found certain laws stifling. He had said something along the lines of laws being made to stifle others and be broken and, occasionally, to keep order. It seemed, now, that she subscribed to that line of thought. "I suppose you have a license to keep him?" He might have sounded a tad amused as he asked that. Knowing Renée, it wouldn't have surprised him if she had 'rescued' the crup from some place, without it's owner's knowledge - and, though he was quite certain she hadn't done that, he still found the thought amusing.

There was absolutely no way to actually take his comments as serious, not when he was grinning like that, and Renée sent Jared his grin back. "If that's how you want to play it," she replied, teasing tone in her voice as well. Before she laughed a little as Bowie looked at each of them curiously, like the cruppy knew the amusement had to do with him, before wiggling practically his whole body in excitement.
She feigned innocence as he responded to the kitty/Ellie conversation quite amusingly, however. "The robe chewing only lasts temporarily," she replied, completely deadpan, before grinning again. "No really. It'll be good for you, as long as the poor kitty doesn't run afoul of any dangerous creatures." She'd let the true topic of the discussion drop almost too easily, but worrying about Ellie had taken up a lot of her time already. The Ravenclaw would come around in her own time, or once she'd found the right buttons to push. Obviously the previous tries hadn't really worked very well. And she laughed at his wry response to her question. At least it meant he'd understood, but then they rarely seemed to truly mystify each other.
She hadn't been able to stop the tense silence at the discovery of the most obvious of her secrets. Well, most obvious beyond her legilimency, as she'd known eventually someone was going to find out Bowie still technically had his tail. At his breaking of the silence, though, she shifted to sit on the floor as she gave him a brief smile. Rather unceremoniously and not particularly like a professor should do, but the relaxation after the stress had almost been too much. Of course, Bowie just took the opening to scramble even further onto her lap and she looked down to scratch his belly like he was requesting before she heard Jared's follow-up comment and she'd looked back up at him, pretending shock at the question. "Of course," she said, before her face split into another grin. "No, Bowie wasn't another rescue," she continued, intimating his thoughts without actually trying. It wasn't hard, and besides, she'd made sure to legally own both of her pets. It was only this one little detail where she'd bent the rules.

Carrying her bag, Kurumi returned to the Observatory feeling the urge for some more star gazing. However, seeing as it was still bright out, Kurumi decided she would have to come back later.
As she was about to leave, Kurumi noticed something glistening in the sunlight coming from the window and picked it up. Oh...how interesting. She slipped it into her bag and continued on her way.

Sierra had to admit it--she was really only up here in the Observatory for one reason, and no, it wasn't for stargazing. Although now that she thought about it, she really did need to get a move on with that Astronomy homework. Weren't they meant to come up here and locate some of the constellations? Yes, they were, and if she wasn't mistaken, that homework was due pretty soon.
Arghh! She peered around the Observatory, wishing she already had that homework over and done with. How had she managed to get so far behind anyway?! She blamed that injury she received during the last Quidditch match. As she started to leave, an object caught her eye, and she reached down and scooped it up before heading out.

Honestly, Cam was not at all a professional with the stars. They were just er... stars. But they were pretty to look at! He only wanted to see a small glimpse of the stars and then leave, but something caught his eye. THAT SOMETHING. He grabbed it and left, hoppity hopping out of the starry room, and pushing the objects in the bag, careful not to break them.

"I haven't seen him" Katie said, she trusted Michael, so she was going to tell him, "Michael, to be honest with you, I'm a bit scared about being single, I have had so many good times with Luke, that if I lost him, then I would be single, and to be honest, its not as fun as being taken" She admitted.
