The Milky Way Galaxy contains anywhere between 200 and 400 billion stars. A tiny fraction of those can be viewed right here, in the Hogwarts Observatory. This circular room was locked for a long time, but Professor Antares opened it again two terms ago - complete with a huge telescope that was a new addition then. As it is difficult to operate, students need permission from the professor before they are allowed to use it, but a number of smaller telescopes that anyone and everyone is free to use are stowed away in cupboards lining the rounded walls along with empty potion vials and other astronomy items.

Large star charts are pinned up on the walls as well. Not all of these belong to the school. Those that do not have a great number of notes and calculations added to them - although Professor Antares is first and foremost a teacher now, he is still able to supply colleagues with data and measurements. You are, of course, free to study his charts, but make very sure not to remove or misplace anything.

Stargazing, naturally, is an activity best pursued at night, and as such, the Observatory usually remains unlocked. Of course, there are superseding school rules that limit the hour at which students can still be out of bed. If you desire to study the wonders of the cosmos later than that, you need a note from Professor Antares. Should a student be found without such a note (or, alternatively, a creative excuse), he or she can expect... trouble.

In the same way that a library is more than just a building where books are stored, the Observatory is as much a place of scientific inquiry as it is a shrine to the grandeur and beauty of the Universe. Professor Antares, when he doesn't use the telescope for work, often comes here to think to himself, or for some peace and quiet. Please respect him and any other teacher or student spending his or her time here in this way by not running around or shouting.

Elle blushed as a guy older than her helped her with the big heavy door. Well hell, she was never good with boys. But, she had to muster up the strength to befriend this wonderful guy.

She looked up as she entered the Observatory. "Hey," she smiled awkwardly. "Name's Elizabeth Woods, but people usually call me Elle," she nodded once and gave him a smirk. She put a hand on her waist while the other was holding the book.

He watched as she grinned awkwardly. Probably his doing. "Nice to meet you Elle" He said smiling at her. He wasn't one for small talk so this might suck! "So, what house are you in?"

"Nah, it's all good" He said grinning. "You were struggling anyway." He started to walk to a side of the Observatory. He wanted to be friends with Elle, and he wanted to get to know her better.

Taking a seat under the beautiful night sky, Elle stared at the scenery and got her telescope and began observing stars and maybe, planets.

"Nice" He said and just as he was going to say what house he was, but she saw already. "Yup!"

As he got there, he sat down next to her.

Violet walked all the way to the top of the Tower a little out of breath, but still excited about making it. She looked around in awe as she took it all in. Violet felt a breeze blow through her blond hair which was complimented by an adorable blue ribbon, which matched perfectly with her outfit. She slowly made her way over to one of the railings and looked out at the tremendous scenery around Hogwarts. Violet smiled as she was gazing across the Lake and could even see the Giant Squid swimming about in the depths of the deep water. She thought to herself,"Oh Merlin, this must have been father's favorite place to spend his time while he was attending Hogwarts.." Not only that, but Violet remembered that this was where Christopher wanted to take her one time while they were spending time together, now she could see why he wanted to show her so bad, this place was amazing!

Okaaay, time for the Astronomy assignment.

It wasn't late yet, so she didn't need professor Hadley's permission, right?

When Helena finally managed to climb up those stairs, she walked towards the obsevatory and took her cleaned telescope, ready to use it. She also took her textbook and a notebook, carried as usual in her dark jeans bag.

The girl flipped a few pages through the textbook, looking at the constellations, until one specific group of stars caught her attention. Scorpius. She was a scorpio, so she'll try to look for that one.

Carefully, she took her telescope and looked at the clear sky. At first, it seemed impossible to find a constellation. There were just... WAY too many stars. But she finally found one. Or at least it looked like it.

Checking her textbook again and again and again, Helena was sure now. She found Aquarius. It was not perfectly visible, but it was there.

She loved the view from the tower and she always liked to sit on the steps and imagine what it must have been like to be part of the Hogwarts trio. When she reached the top she saw Violet, "What are you doing here?"

Astronomy assignment post # 1:

The last classes for the day was over but with at least an hour to dinner Sophie climbed the steep stairs to the observatory grumbling about having to carry the quite heavy telescope. "Oh telescope, why couldn't you be lighter?" As the brunette entered over the observatory threshold she stopped to regain her breath.

Rejuvenated Sophie carried her telescope over to what she deemed to be a good spot. Extracting her textbook, notebook, quill and ink from her backpack the prefect placed them at her feet. Sticking her eye to the telescope she surveyed the night sky. One of the constellations looked very much like a dragon in appearance. Pulling some strands of hair out of her eyes she fetched her textbook and search through the spring constellations. Out loud she said to herself "Can that constellation be Draco?"

Salina sat herself down in the observatory. Why were there so many stairs, again? Oh, yeah... It's easier to see stars. She knew that...

Okay.... Time for Astronomy, her favorite subject of all time! Salina had a lot of the constellations mapped out in her mind, and her telescope shiny and bright. Malfoys generally love astronomy, it's a fact.

She looked through the eyepiece and started looking for constellations. She could see so many stars at first that it was becoming very difficult to find the constellations but after a while, her eyes relaxing, she managed to spot the basic shape of the constellations.

There it was. She could swear it was there. Her favorite constellation, Scorpio. After which her grandfather, Scorpius Malfoy was named. It was the first constelation she had ever found.

Salina smiled as she jotted into her journal,
Scorpio: Also known as Scorpius, is a constellation of the zodiac. The bright star, Antares, an unmistakable red supergiant star is found at the heart of the Scorpion. It is one of the oldest constellations known and is possibly on of the six original stars of the zodiac.

Elektra kept her distance from her two friends. She watched them...carefully. Elektra was not feeling herself lately and she didn't know if either Selina or Violet had noticed, but as she heard Violet and Selina talking Elektra stepped out with her arms crossed over her chest as she walked towards them. "What are you two doing here?"

Helena kept looking through the telescope, but kind of forgetting about the reason she was up there, in the observatory. The tiny stars were just... fascinating.

But she still had an assignment to do.

She scanned the sky... until she spotted another constellation. Flipping some more pages in her textbook, she found out that this one was the Pisces constellation.

Buuuut it was getting late, and Helena surely didn't want to lose points or something for staying there for too long. Maybe she should get a permission from professor Hadley, so she could spend a whole night studying the sky. Not a bad idea.

She carefully put back the telescope, packed her notes and her textbook and walked downstairs, towards the common room. She'll have a LOT to walk. You know, the common room was down down down and she was... well, up.

Although the Head Girl had enjoyed Professor Hadleys lesson, and she was indeed a very good teacher, Arithmancy was a lesson she enjoyed, Trixie missed Professor Antares teaching her the subject. Where had he gone? And was it her or did Hadley like teaching lessons that began with a letter A? Next it would be her teaching Ancient Runes. Just you wait and see.

Not that she was a seer or anything.

With a few slow steps up the tower and walking into the Observatory, the seventeen year old bit her lip gently and walked around, clutching hold of the telescope softly, bending her knees so to look through the telescope. As she mentioned, Astronomy was a lesson the Slytherin LOVED and so when the extra credit assignment was posted on the Notice Board, Trix took it as an opportunity to go visit one of her favourite locations in Hogwats.

Now on with the journal.

Since the incident in Charms Elektra had not been herself. True, the revelation of being a parseltongue would scare anyone. But Elektra had been more than just quiet, it was really effecting her.

"Hey, how you doing?" Selina asked sensitively.

Violet turned seeing Elektra come out of nowhere and once again the TRIO was together...YAY! She listened to the two talk and Violet came to the realization that she STILL didn't know what was being discussed that night in Charms in the Forbidden Forest and neither one of them told her what had happened. All she remembered was that she remembered hearing Selina mentioned the name of the Dark Lord. Now it was Violet's M.O. to discover what that conversation was about.

And you have to learn to deal with it. At least your gift doesn't put people in danger..." Selina let out. Elektra was being far to emotional about this- blood didn't make the person, people always have a choice.

Violet's mouth had dropped as soon as Selina practically blurted out what Elektra had been hiding. She was just..in shock..Violet's mouth was open but nothing was coming out. Violet was only able to mutter,"Yo-You-You're-You're a....a....Parse-" Violet's eyes rolled back as she suddenly collapsed to the floor...Yes Violet Le Veela had fainted..
