Library Reference Desk A large desk sits near the entrance of the library. This is where the librarian, Madam Donovan, usually sits, keeping an eye out over her domain, and its prominent placement makes it clear that students are welcome to approach her if they require assistance. You won't necessarily have to ask for help, however; a large tome on a nearby stand, full of extensive records of past teachers, prefects, awards, champions, and all kinds of events of the long history of Hogwarts, is often the first - and easiest - way to look for information. Feel free to consult it, but be mindful of its age. This book may not be removed from the library unless under the specific instruction from the librarian. |
Kim walked up he wanted start his studying early so that he won't be behind as he looked around for the reference section he always had a hard time looking for books and he truthfully didn't want to spend the whole day looking for a book if he could use the reference desk to help him look for it easier. Kim noticed that the reference section was behind Mrs. Donovan's desk not being rude he wasn't going to go behind her desk without permission. Kim noticed Mrs. Donovan he walked up to her and said "May I ask you something Professor Donovan?" |
Raven made his way to the Library, well, this is his first time here, he wander, looking to something useful, then he saw the large desk, he try to look and bingo, he just found the list of all book in this library -- he quietly read it --no, he didn't read it, he just scan it --whatever his eyes saw, he saw but he didn't understand it all. after a while he read a title --at least his attention captured by this book-- Quote:

Hearing the child's voice, Kimber sighed and lifted her eyes. "Yes?" |

"I was curious... since the reference books are place on shelves behind your desk I was curious to if I may have permission to enter behind your desk to look. Since I thought it was rude to go behind your desk without ur permission and possibly invading your personal space." Kim was hoping he wasn't disturbing her to much with the next question "Because I was looking for a book on Star Grass and Moonseed." |

So she tucked the book under her arm and began to rifle through her bag in search of the small parcel. "It's here somewhere..." she muttered more to herself than to the librarian. |

Now standing, she opened the package and dropped the paper onto her desk. "Lexi, this is beautiful," she said, running her fingers over the stitching. She pulled the scarf out and wrapped it snugly around her neck and then came around from behind her desk. "Thank you so much," she said, pulling her into firm hug. |

Watching as the librarian wrapped the scarf around her neck Lexi's smile brightened. Then the most surprising thing happened... Madame Donovan HUGGED her. Returning the woman's hug she replied, "You are very welcome, ma'am. And thank you." Her brief show of... concern at the feast had really touched Lexi. Something as simple as an understanding nod and placing her hand on her shoulder had meant more to the little blonde than her HoH had known. Clearly. |
Chyler blinked and slowed down to a stop just a few metres from the from the librarian's desk. She'd been wandering around aimlessly for a while now, reveling in the books and their familiar scents and sounds whens the redhead had remembered that there had been an original purpose of this little stray from her common room - to find out how the whole muggle-wizard post thing works. It wasn't a fascinating subject but since she was going to be depending on it for the next three years, she felt she needed to read up on it. Plus, there was nothing particularly interesting going on in her life anyway so this was something of an improvement. But now... With half a mind to just turn around and look for the books herself in this monstrous library, Chyler watched with slight disgust as the librarian hugged a student. HUGGED a student. Ew. It was repulsing. All that touching and arms and chests and it was the LIBRARIAN. The sixteen year old made a mental note never to let her guard down with this one in case she tried to pull the same thing on her. Bleh. Looking down, Chyler waited for the librarian to stop the touching so that she could go inquire about her books and be gone as quickly as possible. If only this library wasn't so HUGE. . . |

"So... ? How are things, Lexi?" she asked softly. Hard as it was to believe, the librarian had been concerned. Quote:

Shudder... Hugging strangers. Ew. |

"Well, not great, to be quite honest. I don't think I will be returning here next year," she said very quietly. Saying it aloud made her a bit emotional. Blinking rapidly she cleared her throat and let her gaze follow the librarian's. Oooh another student. How lovely. She was not having a moment or anything. Not about to tell her Head of House about her problems. HMPH. |
Emily walked up to the desk quietly. Wow! Look at all the books behind the counter! She had to get her hands on them... 'No Emily, that's not why your here' she told herself. She was very curious and nervous as she asked "Excuse me Madam Donovan, but do you have any books on the... on the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy?" She hoped she woudn't get suspicious. She just wanted to know what it was. Plus it would help with the potions homework... |
With careful steps instead of her usual heavy "monster" steps, Damian walked into the library, acting as quite as possible. She always had a high respect for libraries and the rule of silence. Damian walked up the desk, moving like a muted snake, and looked around with wondering and lost eyes. "Madam Donovan, I hope I didn't disturb your work but I would require some assistance on a certain subject. Is here by any chance a book about Parseltongue?" she whispered. |

Feeling QUITE surrounded at the moment, the librarian gave Lexi an apologetic smile and leaned in close. "Would you like to meet me at the Lake, Lexi so that we can talk?" she asked. "I'll be closing for lunch in twenty minutes." Quote:

Lexi smiled at Madame Donovan and nodded her head. "Yes, ma'am. That would be nice," she said as she too cast a glance around the area. Madame Donovan must feel awfully claustrophobic the way people tended to crowd into the library. "Well then, I will see you there in a bit then," she mumbled as she turned to make her way through the small crowd that had gathered. |

Thank Merlin they'd be leaving soon! She needed a break. |

"I just wondered if there was a specific book on it. Like in a book on Wizarding law. Guess I'll just look for one myself." Wow, this woman seemed mean. All she would have had to say was 'In a history of magic book!'. No need to get all patronising. She'd just look for things on her own in future. |

Professor Hadley wasn't prepared for this kind of talk; sure she had a fascination with the future, but she'd never worked with students long enough to have them actually come to her to want to speak about it. Down in South Africa, she was only there teaching two years. Had she been there a third, like here at Hogwarts, would those students come to her as well? Who knew. Either way, if there was one place in the world that Josephina knew would hold the knowledge and confidence about possibilities, it was the Hogwarts Library. In there, it felt like anything was possible. Like you had the whole world at your fingertips; or at least books to pour your heart and soul into so you could forget about anything else on your mind. Which is why, like the good numerologist that she was, Hadley would be conversing with a student about life in the one place that seemed to hold a vast majority of the world's truths. But not just anyplace in the library, because she needed a quieter environment, without the noises of pages turning or quills scratching. Thus ... "Madam Donovan?" Hadley called politely, as she rested her hand on the reference desk. "May I have the key for the restricted section?" |
Hopefully, Katie wasn't late. What she wouldn't have given to have her annoying younger sister around to wake her up bright and early with her chaotic methods just this once. She hadn't really over slept too long, barely enough for it to count for anything, except.. when you have to travel four floors up to the Library, to meet with a Professor. Thankfully though, she had made it. Dressed properly in her school robes, dark curls as tame as unruly came but at least brushed through with a clip on one side just above her ear to keep hair from in front of her face, the Hufflepuff was wide awake as she entered the Library, dark eyes looking for the Arithmancy professor. It only took a second to spot her and Katie was already on her way, catching the last bit of Hadley's request. The restricted section? Briefly, Katie wondered why, but brushed it off with a bit of relief. It would be quiet there, more secluded from other students. "Good morning, Professor Hadley," The sixth year greeted, a small smile present. "And Madame Donovan." |
Jackie hurried to the library in search of a divination book. She had been having nightmares quite frequently now and wanted a book on dream interpretation. Jackie was having a hard time finding one so she went over to the library reference desk to ask the librarian. She patiently waited her turn then asked, Excuse me Madame Donovan. I was wondering if you would please help me find a book on dream interpretation." Jackie shuddered at the thought of dreams. She was having them at least every day now. |
