Default Library Reading Lounge

As you enter the Hogwarts library, what appears to be a cozy nook in one corner of the main area appears most appealing to the Hogwarts student interested in his or her reading. Upon further inspection, you see that this comfy area is larger than it had seemed on first sight. Spread throughout the room are clusters of armchairs, surrounding magical reading lamps giving off different levels of light, all of which are appropriate for reading. These clusters are perfect for study groups or group projects.

Here and there are a few lone armchairs for the student who enjoys quiet solitary reading, and a number of sofas for any that would rather stretch out and put their feet up. Be sure not to muddy them up though!

A soft glow of light is present throughout the room, with more magical lamps in each possible reading space. Be sure not to make much noise and respect some students' wishes to read in quiet.

One last note, no food or drink in the reading lounge.

Happy reading!

In the early stages, there are subtle changes in personality, cognition, and physical skills. Okay, she wrote that, then flipped a few more pages. There was a lot of work to do.
"Ok. You get really bored in the Muggle Studies class, don't you?" Viola asked, with a laugh.

So, we'll have to start with symptoms. She wrote symptoms under the title and stopped. "Can I have a look at the book?" Viola asked, looking at Helena. Geez, she didn't even know the symptoms. That's sad!

Uh... "Not really... I told you, I just want to learn something else as well." Besides muggles.

"Oh, yes," Helena said, blushing agaaaaain. "I'm sorry, I forgot I'm not the only one who needs the book." How could she forget something like that? Oh well.

Okayyy. Better not to talk about it further since Helena seems to be slightly uncomfortable, thought Viola. "Ok." replied Viola, with a smile.

"Don't worry about it." said Viola smiling, taking the book from Helena. She opened the book and started turning the pages until she reached the chapter on diabetes. She read the symptoms as fast as she could before she passed the book back to Helena. She started writing.

Helena smiled back, then looked again in the book. "Just tell me when you need it, okay?" Because... Because she was concentrated on her report and probably going to forget that she wasn't the only one using that book.

She just kept writing and writing and writing... But it was getting late, and she was constantly yawning. "I think I'll go, yawn, "back to the dorms," Helena managed to say, putting a hand over her mouth every time she was yawning.

Simple.

He needed distractions. And books gave him distractions. Right now, it seemed that he was getting distracted thanks to a wandlore book, he'd never let that thing about wandlore escape his mind.

And Treyen was only dedicating himself to read, no taking notes or anything, though that Gregorovitch dude had had some wonderful insights on wood types.

Simon walked into the Library reading lounge he had decided he would get a Quidditch book to read, he needed to figure out what made a Bludger so nasty and who created the snitch.

Simon was just about to think about getting a book to read when he saw Treyen the one person he had wanted to speak to for ages and who had seemed to have disapeared, Simon wanted to shout at Treyen but in a Library that would be a silly thing to do so he just went upto Treyen and gave him the unhappy face.

There was someone standing before him, he knew that, he could see it. What he couldn't see was who it was...until he looked up from his book, and smiled.

A smile that vanished as soon as he took notice of Simon's face. "Heeey, Simon," the Prince, "Er, is everything okay?" for it seemed there was something bothering him...but what? Was he seated in Simon's most favorite spot? Was Simon looking for the book he was reading?

Treyen even ventured a look to the back, in case the face was meant for someone else...but, there was no one behind him.

Simon looked at Treyen and sighed. "Treyen your supposted to be my friend why can't I ever find you when I want to plan something with you." Simon glared at Treyen. "You know what I mean kind of like what we did last year." Simon decided he would sit down oppisite Treyen.

Simon wondered why Treyen had been avoiding him and decided to ask him. "Have I upset you or anything?" Simon asked. "It's just I think you have been avoiding me for some strange reason, and I have no idea why."

Er, what?

Treyen blinked. He was his friend. And...well, why couldn't Simon find him? He had no idea. "I...don't know, I've been everywhere, though, I've been spending more time indoors than out," because, man, it had been so cold outside lately!

The glaring? What was that for???? He'd already apologized for those Bludgers, didn't he? And he hadn't done anything else in practice that will make him be mad at him...oh, but he was mad for not finding Treyen? He had no fault in that!

Ooooooh. "Yeah, I'm not messing with Saylen again," he said, shaking his head. He had an Aslan to think about.

He looked confused, or beyond confusion, "What? No, of course not," he said, and then added, "I have? But...not really, maybe we've been on different paths lately," like, on the pathways, yes, and that's why they haven't been meeting? Probably.

"Do you have something in mind?" the curiosity was...getting to him.

Simon looked at Treyen and smiled, okay so maybe he had been a bit hard on him but it was Treyen fault he'd disappeared. "I wasn't thinking of messing with her again." Simon laughed as he thought about how they had got away with what they did. "I thought we were going to get it that day." Simon looked around the lounge to make sure no one was listening.

"I was thinking about having some fun at the Quidditch match, maybe getting people to make some funny banners or something like that, Go Huffleclaw stuff like that to confuse people, we'll have to see what The captain has to say before we ask people though." Simon laughed.

Melanie seemed so intelligent about wizarding matters, at least thus far, and it was a bit hard for the Ravenclaw to think condescendingly of her, no matter how hard his inbred instincts tried. What was wrong with him?

He grimaced ever so slightly at her laughter at first. "I don't think I've ever heard of a Ravenclaw quidditch player speaking to the Hufflepuff captain by choice. Don't you think that's a bit odd as well?" The grimace immediately turned into a smirk as he asked his rhetorical question, acting the cheeky, witty student that most knew him to be. Continuing on, Amadeus cast a blank look at the encyclopedia. "It's not to my taste," He said bluntly, adding, "As you could probably tell." Broadening his gaze to look at both the herbology and divination textbooks by his side, Amadeus spoke, "Actually, I don't even understand why I read these, or carry them around, or take these classes that I don't have any interest in. I suppose I just wanted to push myself during my seventh year and now..." He trailed off, not sure of how to continue after his strangely straight-forward confession.

Melanie failed to notice Amadues' surprise at her blood status, as she was still looking at the cover of the encyclopedia he was holding with vague curiosity in her eyes. The girl's attention was easily deterred, however, when the Ravenclaw spoke up again. She blinked, opening her mouth as if to say something, before clamping it shut again. Melanie was, quite obviously, baffled by his suggestion. He'd never heard of a Ravenclaw Quidditch player speaking to the Hufflepuff Captain by choice? Melanie had to admit she didn't have many Ravenclaw friends (eh, Claude the pudding-throwing toe-bruiser was really the only 'claw she'd ever been close to), but surely that was only a coincidence. Surely. "I don't think it's too terribly strange." she replied honestly, lifting her eyes to meet Amadeus' for a moment before dropping her gaze once more.

She hugged her knees against her chest, listening to him with polite interest as he talked about his courses and related topics. She understood the Ravenclaw's predicament far too well, because of her own experiences as a seventh year thus far. "I'm taking the NEWT classes I qualify for and studying on the side for a few others. I don't really know what I want to do, and it makes it hard to concentrate on a select few, if you know what I mean. I have to keep my options open." Options, options, options. Yes, as much as Melanie despised having to make hard decisions, she did like to have lots of choices. The Hufflepuff couldn't help but wonder if Amadeus was in a similar situation, so, of course, she had to ask, "Do you not know what you want to do when you're out of school? Or do you just like a challenge?"

"Yeah, I will." Viola said, looking out the window. The sky was dark. She wondered what the time was. Bah, she was tired. She had written a few lines and she wasn't happy with what she had completed.

"I agree. It's better we continue this report tomorrow." said Viola, with a smile. Helena seemed very tired as well. Viola returned the quill to Helena with a "Thanks" and got up.

She packed everything in her small bag, then stood up as well. But... what should she do now? Hug? Handshake? Probably not the best idea. "I guess I'll see you tomorrow then," the girl said, a smile spreading over her face. "Good night."

Well... it turned out fun. Studying with someone else. She might even get used to this.

"Well, it might not be terribly strange for you," The seventh year added onto her initial statement, "but it is for most." When had Hogwarts students engaging in any sort of competition been cordial to each other? Maybe in the days of the the golden trio of Potter, Weasley, and Granger roamed the corridors and classrooms, but not now... at least, to the Kipling boy. Unfortunately, Amadeus could be a bit competitive for his own good.

It was a welcome relief when Melanie moved onto the subject of classes, something that was nearly always on the tip of every seventh years' tongue throughout their last days at Hogwarts. "Keeping your options open is very well," He commented nonchalantly, scratching his chin before resting his hand back on the armrest. His interest was perked as the badger girl made an inquiry, his eyes rising to meet hers. "Well, no and yes." Deus began, "I'm expected to take over the family business. The paternal side of my family is one of wand-makers and, as I have no siblings, I'll take over when my father relinquishes his position as head of the company." Biting his lip momentarily, he considered the pressure that he was putting on himself in school when he didn't necessarily have to. If he had a job waiting for him, why did he bury himself in classes? It was the a-typical Ravenclaw thirst for knowledge that most likely drove him to jam-pack his schedule with courses.

"But," He quickly changed his tone, "What about you? Do you have any interests besides flying that you could possibly put to use after Hogwarts?" A rather questioning look replaced the unsure expression on his face.

"I was thinking about having some fun at the Quidditch match, maybe getting people to make some funny banners or something like that, Go Huffleclaw stuff like that to confuse people, we'll have to see what The captain has to say before we ask people though." Simon laughed.
Oooh, a smile!

Good. That meant...that Simon wasn't as upset as before? Sure! "Yeah, good thing, I wouldn't want to do that again," that was clearly obvious, because he'd said that same thing just seconds ago, but Treyen didn't laugh this time. "Yeah, totally." It was very lucky for them they didn't, and for Aslan too.

Though, the Little Lockhart kind of realized that perhaps he was still paying for the incidents on that day without getting detention.

Somewhere along Simon's sentence, Treyen got lost and all he heard was 'Huffleclaw'. What?! Had Arya been talking to Simon? "What? I'm not a Huffleclaw, nor do I intend to become one," how did you become a Huffleclaw, by the way? "I don't even spend time with Ravenclaws!" with one exception.

Whatever he'd understood Simon had said had brought confusion to his face.

When had Hogwarts students engaging in any sort of competition been cordial to each other?

Melanie simply nodded. It wasn't for her and, if it was for most, she'd failed to notice. She found Amadeus' observation rather interesting.

Yes and no? Melanie's eyebrows rose slightly as they met eyes and, stubbornly, she almost opened her mouth to contradict him. As Amadeus continued, though, she shut it again. A family business? And in wand-making too. "Oh." she answered flatly, considering this for a moment. Her dad owned a business, yes, in the muggle world, but not a successful one, and certainly not one she planned on taking over once she reached the right age. If anything, the little electronics shop would probably be dead by then. What would it be like to be in Amadeus' shoes, with a career already decided for her? A path she didn't need to make herself, already there for her to take...

Well, for one, it would be a hell of a lot easier.

But, there was less decision-making involved. Less choices to make. She liked her options, as Amadues already knew. "Do you want to take over your dad's company?" It was like the theme of every father-son movie. The father sets unrealistically high expectations and of course, in the end, the son either chooses not to try to live up to them, or makes an attempt, and fails. Real life wasn't typically like movies, but she had to ask. The question had been on the tip of her tongue.

...Melanie supposed if she wanted him to answer her questions, she had better answer his. With a soft sigh at Amadues' inquiry, she glanced up at the ceiling, as if looking for the answer. "Well," She had interests, right? RIGHT? "I like... herbology." Did that even count? Probably. She already told him that, though. Hm... "And movies. Movies are nice. Art too, though I'm not actually good at it. I just like looking at it... and doodling and stuff." Professor Saylen did seem to like her clay manticore last year, but it had turned out way too cute for her liking. She could never get anything to turn out as lovely or intricate as what she imagined, though.

And uhmmm... Amadues, being a fellow seventh year, wouldn't judge her too much for this last one, would he? "...I also like fairytales."

Blinking a few times, he took her question into consideration. It should have been a no-brainer, a robotic response in the affirmative, but alas, he had to pause for a moment. Amadeus should have wanted to take over, to rule like he had been "born" to do, but did he really desire it? No point in mulling over the intricacies of his desires at this point in time with someone that he barely knew. "Yes, of course," He nodded, responding as if her question had been nonsensical. "I like the money and I already know how the business works, for the most part. Traveling around, making business trips, can also be quite the treat sometimes." Feeling like he was rambling, the Ravenclaw stopped. Had she caught the hesitation that he had momentarily presented to her? He sincerely hoped not.

The blonde was much relieved when she took over the conversation, the inquisitive look returning to his chiseled features as he let her speak. A small smirk flew onto his face lightning fast as she mentioned the typical things that girls, Hufflepuff girls, liked, although he quickly wiped it away. As Melanie mentioned movies, a fleeting twinkle appeared in his blue eyes; that was what his boyfriend, Braeden, liked to do: write movie scripts and the like. The last thing that she mentioned, rather in a whisper, was quite a surprise. His eyebrows knit together in an expression that was not mocking but rather curious, typical of the students in the eagle house. "Really?" He offered, pondering her answer. "That's quite an interesting... repertoire you have." Scratching his chin thoughtfully, Amadeus continued, "Have you considered something creative? Maybe you could write, illustrate, something of the sort?" Crossing his right ankle onto his opposite knee, he leaned back into his chair as he awaited her response.

He seemed so sure of himself to Melanie. Money, traveling... Amadeus certainly made it sound like a lovely occupation. It couldn't be that easy, that simple, though, could it? She didn't know what to think, but since such an opportunity wasn't available to her, it didn't exactly matter much. Melanie couldn't help but inject her opinion after his description, though. "It almost sounds too easy..." She suppressed the grin that came to her lips, pressing her lips together thoughtfully. "You really do have your whole future planned out." It almost made her feel as if she was a step behind. Quite a few steps behind, actually.

Repertoire? She almost laughed, but refrained in the end... because the last time she laughed, Amadeus didn't laugh along. She didn't like laughing alone much, mind you. The girl couldn't suppress a smile any longer, though, at his career ideas for her. "I... don't think so. I mean, I'm not a big fan of writing, even though I like certain books. And... yeah... I already said, as far as drawing goes, I just doodle. Nothing good." Melanie wasn't being silly or humble, she was being honest. Truly. "I guess you wouldn't happen to have any other ideas?" she asked rhetorically after a moment, a slightly goofy grin coming to her face. Yes, Melanie was kidding. Really, she couldn't imagine how Amadeus could possibly guess the right job for her when he'd only just met her... especially considering she didn't even know when the right job for her was. It was sweet of him to try, though.

Amadeus held back the grimace that sought to appear on his lips at her mild taunts and prods at his life plans. Did she think it silly, his plans to continue his life in the upper class by taking on a hefty career? Maybe she was just unhappy that he had his life after Hogwarts planned out and that she had no clue what she was to do after graduation. Pity. Pushing his mental biases and thoughts aside, he answered bluntly, holding back the sarcasm that sought to squeeze its way into his tone, "It's not all fun and games. Meeting with other wand-makers, dealing with finances with the bloody Gringotts goblins, handling other employees, and directing the flow of business... I can't tell you how many extra hours my father has had to spend on business matters." Even that one time that he missed Christmas day because of some mishap at work.

Deus managed to relax as she commented on her own interests once more, the pressure of off him. "Ideas, ideas," He spoke nonchalantly, almost to himself, "To be frank, you can have whatever career you desire if your NEWTs are up to standard. Most people go for Ministry jobs, which I find can be dreadfully mundane, but that's where most seem to settle themselves." He paused, thinking momentarily as a rather ingenious idea came along. "Well," Amadeus continued, a bit more of a positive tone to his voice, "What about teaching? It's not something I would deign to do or have the patience for," He smirked ever so slightly, "But what about eventually returning to Hogwarts? Or maybe going to another school and teaching flight, or herbology?"

Making some room for her as she grabbed her bag, Evan chuckled softly. Right. It seemed as if no one could understand the runes. "I'm not outstanding neither," he said in response while she sat down. "But we should find a way to get it done." It was Professor Truebridge, after all. And the man should see his snakes were doing well.
