"I'm a third year", he answered Emmy smiling. "What about you?", he asked her. "I like Science Fiction a lot", he added. He founded topics like that quite interesting. "You?", he repiled.

"Fourth year..." she grinned, "I like sci-fi too! But to be honest, I'll read just about anything... Have you read anything by Sir Arthur C. Clarke?" she asked hopefully.
Finally, someone who was actually interested in something she liked!

"That's great", he said. Not many people liked Sci-fi. He finally met someone who did like it. "Nope, I actually haven't heard of Sir Arthir C. Clarke", he answered Emmy.

I think I'd appreciate this more if I could actually see above the second shelf, Witsy thought and shook her head smiling. Reading the labels from the science fiction section she was hoping she's find something with werewolves and vampires. Not a great fan but she can't help but keep up with her muggle friends back home.

Emmy raised a quizzical eyebrow. Never heard of Sir Arthur?? Good grief...
"How about H G Wells then? Or Carl Sagan? Michael Crichton?" she reeled off some more modern sci-fi authors, still grinning broadly.
"Surely you've heard of '2001: A Space Odyssey'? One of Sir A C Clarke's best-known novels, though, not (in my humble opinion) his best work..."

Cody really couldn't remember author's names that much. He didn't have the world's best memory. "Nope but I think I have heard of H G Wells before", he answered her. "I've heard of the book but I don't really remember the author", he said. honestly.

Witsy was standing on her tiptoes to reach what looked like a werewolf novel. She was looking side-to-side for a stool of some sort, but no luck. She over heard a conversation from the other side, HG Wells, cool, I like War of the Worlds, she thought to herself. She pulled out a ruler from her bag and pushed a Terry Pratchett book in their direction hoping it wouldn't hit them seeing as she couldn't reach it. She went around the other side, "Sorry about that, I couldn't help but over hear your conversation..." she picked up the book, "Have you heard of Terry Pratchett and Disc World? He's one of my faves" She was hoping she wasn't intruding on anything important, "I'm Wisteria Hartly," she held out her hand smiling.

Emmy smiled, "You've probably heard of Wells' 'War of the Worlds'? Or 'The First Men in The Moon'?"
Going back to good old A C Clarke...
"Yes, you probably know the music from the film of '2001'... Did you know, that in World War Two, Arthur C Clarke actually helped develop RADAR technology? He had such an amazing mind..."

Then, quite unexpectedly, just as she was pondering what to say next, a tome by another of her favourite authors clonked her on the head. Thus providing her with another line of conversation...

Rubbing the spot where the book had hit her, Emmy looked round for the culprit... And found a small, rather sheepish-looking Gryffindor girl.
She handed 'Moving Pictures' back to the young Lion, saying,
"That's all right - no harm done!" she smiled, continuing, "Yes, actually, he's one of my favourite authors! Have you read 'The Wee Free Men'?" she hoped so - it was, in her opinion, probably the best place to start - either that, or the Bromeliad trilogy...
"Nice to meet you, Wisteria - I'm Emelia Frost, but my friends call me Emmy!"
She held out her hand for the girl to shake.

Cody saw a young girl walking towards him and Emmy. She seemed interested in the conversation. "Yes, I think I have heard of that before", he said with a smile on his face. "I'm Cody Evans", he repiled shaking her hand. He had met a lot of people lately. "What house are you in Wisteria?", he asked.

"Yep, I have. I haven't read them though but I have certainly heard about them", he repiled to Emmy.
Emmy seemed to like talking about A C Clarke. Cody didn't know that much about him but a bit more on H G Wells. "I didn't know that", he said blankly. Emmy did know her stuff well.

Witsy was glad she wasn't the only one who knew about Pratchett. "No unfortunately not." She looked as if someone just took her favorite book and set it on fire in front of her. She shook her hand, happy to have crossed paths with her. "I've read Small Gods, which so far is my favorite, Guards Guards, Lords and Ladies, and I'm currently reading the Color of Magic. I really want to read Thud, I've heard so many funny things about that one. I'll definitely look out for this one, though." She looked back at the book then back at Emmy, "You mind if I take this one?"

Witsy tucked the book under her arm, "I'm in Gryffindor, second year. You?" She was pleased with meeting new people, though not good at it, she always managed to say hi. "What books do you like? How do you feel about vampires and werewolves?" She was interested in what he had to say. She just hoped she wasn't being too geeky, and slightly grinned at that thought.

Emmy smiled, "They're well worth reading! Personally, I think the Time Machine is a good place to start... Um, I don't s'pose you've read the Alex Rider or Young Bond series' have you?" This last she addressed to both of her new friends.

Emmy suddenly became aware that she was still clutching the Terry Pratchett. Grinning apologetically, she handed it back. "Sorry! Of course you must have it back! I haven't read it yet - it's the next on my list though! I've read them all up to 'Guards! Guards!' so far - and I've heard some of them on the radio! I think Pyramids is probably my favourite - set in a country called 'the Djel', whose inhabitants are called 'Djelibeybis'!" she giggled, "Sorry, that one works better in print..."

She was impressed. She laughed ecstatic by the coincidence, "Who's your favorite character? I'm not morbid or anything but I have to say Death is definitely up there for now." After hearing her mention Pyramids she pondered a second looking at the back of library book... "oh right right, I have that one but haven't gotten to it yet, actually now that I think about it, I have a lot but haven't gotten to them." She shook her head as if telling herself she was dumb/slacking off. She giggled with her as she was trying to tell her the place. "So, how are classes going? You enjoying your semester?"

A fellow Gryffindor. That was great. Cody hadn't met many Gryffindors. "I'm a third year, Gryffindor", he answered her. It was always good to meet new people especially if they had a lot of things in common with you. "I read a lot of books with werewolves in them", he told Witsy. "You?", he added.

"No, I actually haven't", he answered. "You seem to read loads and know your knowledge about all kinds of books", he told Emmy smiling. It was a good thing.

Awesome, she thought. She was relieved to hear that he read about werewolves. "Oh excellent, do you recommend anything in particular?" She was such a newbie, "I haven't much interest in the topic but my muggle friends have been writing me trying to persuade me to get into the genre."

Emmy blushed slightly, and addressed Cody's knees, "Thanks - I do read a lot, always have done! You get plenty of time to read when you're home-educated..." she smiled, remembering those happy days when she would simply sit in her room, or in the garden, and read all day long...
A lot had happened since then though, and those days would never come back.
Just then, she wasn't even sure whether she'd be going home in the holidays...

Thinking through all the characters she'd met in the Discworld, she finally answered, "I think my favourite has to be the Luggage! Closely followed by Death, Rincewind, the Librarian, and Binky!" she grinned, "That's not morbid! He's a very well-written character!"
She took a moment to organise her thoughts, before replying, "Classes are okay, thanks - life's dealing me a pretty rubbish hand elsewhere though... How about you, which classes d'you enjoy most?"

She hysterically put her hand on top of her head, "Noooooo!" She laughed, "I don't know any of them. Definitely on my to do list."

She noticed a pause, slightly questionable, "Oh...wow, I'm sorry." She paused as if giving her the que to speak..."I really like Potions, I really want to get outstandings." Still somewhat concerned, she held out a piece of paper with her schedule on it that marked down her free periods in case she had any interest on seeing her again. She hoped she'd take it.

Emmy was surprised, "What, Lafay doesn't put you off?" she grinned, then realised Wisteria was holding out a slip of paper.
"Hey, could we meet up after lunch on Wednesday? Cos we both seem to have free periods then...?" she asked shyly. Despite being two years older, she was still quite a nervous and shy person!

Cody really didn't have that much to offer. "Not really, anything that interests you is always the best", he answered. "I guess that's kind of different for you?", he said a bit oddly.

"When you read outside it feels.... like your in a completely different world. That's what I always think. It's a lot more peaceful", he told her. The good times that he had spent outside.

She passed and iffy face, "She creeped me out in the beginning, but I respect her enough as a Professor. Though, I don't always agree about certain things."

Oh good she seems pleased, she thought. "Yeah absolutely, it'll be fun." She remembered after losing her train of thought, "I take you don't like Potions?" She smiled. "What are you up to today?"


"Thought I'd ask," she smiled. She glanced back at the rows of books, "Good point though, I don't really like much of the romance but I like drama and action." She looked down upon the many rows of books, "What are you interested in?" She was curious to hear what he had to say.

Emmy grinned, "Yeah, you relax more when you're outdoors - I find I'm far more immersed in the story when I'm reading in the garden... Do you?"
Finally, someone who really knows what it's like to want to read voraciously, and not just because they're told to!

Emmy pulled a face,
"No, I never seem to do very well in Potions - I think Lafay makes me too nervous, although she's not actually scolded me directly... Yet!"
She paused a moment, considering next Wednesday.
"Shall we meet here again on Wednesday then?" that'd be good, then they could maybe explore the Discworld together?
"Today? Not much - mostly trying to forget yesterday..."

"To me, action and adventure are some of my favourites. I'm not a huge fan on romance either but I don't mind a little bit of it", he explained to Wisteria. Cody just like to pick up a book that looked appealing to him and read it.

"Same, I really do like to ride on my skateboard a lot outdoors. It helps me think a lot", he told Emmu. It was always good to be outside and get some sunlight.

Emmy grinned, "I used to love riding my bike round the park in the spring and summer - I'd cycle halfway round, stop by the lake and have an ice-cream, waiting for my parents to catch up, then ride home again in time to put the kettle on so's mum and dad could have a cuppa tea when they got back!"

"I use to ride my horse when I lived on a farm back in Australia", he said to Emmy. He missed his horse a lot. His family was looking after his horse, though. He would make as many visits as he could.

Emmy gasped, "You've got a horse?! Mare or stallion? What's it's name?"
It had always been one of her dreams to be able to ride a horse; sadly, despite her parents being moderately well-to-do, there was no way that they could afford to keep more than Marmalade, their cat.

"Stallion. His name is Sodapop", he repiled to Emmy.
He loved Sodapop so much. He missed riding him. Cody had been riding horses from such a young age and was good at it.
