A great number of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves fill the library, creating rows and aisles of books available for students to read and check out. When returning books to the higher shelves, just hold up the tome and the shelves will take care of the rest; there's a spell on the shelves which summons the returned book to the correct place. Of course, when retrieving a book, they don't 'know' what you're looking for, so those who aren't yet accomplished in the use of the Summoning Charm may use one of the sliding ladders that move around from bookcase to bookcase.
In front of each set of shelves is a small desk with a jar of billywig stingers on it. Students can sit at these desks to complete homework or copy down notes and book references. Be aware that other students may need to access books above you… so mind your head.
You can find any book here that's appropriate for all school years, so browse to your heart's content.

Selina smiled as she walked into the library. It smelled like old books and parchment. An odd, but comforting smell. The small redhead in her Gryffindor robe pulled at her Star of David and recalled all of the hours she had spent at home in her mother's study with her nose stuck in a book. She could tell that she was going to like the library.
Grabbing for the latter that lay at the edge of the book case Selina made her way up the stairs to search for the "Which Broomstick." When she located the book she made her way back down the latter and went to work looking for her second book of choice "The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts". Selina was interested in two things: Quidditch and DADA. What better way to start the year than to read about them?

It was while she was sitting in her common room that Arya got the strong urge to visit the school's library. Why and for what reasons she was unsure. All she knew was that she needed to be in the library, and she needed to find a book. If she had known what book she was looking for, she would have been slumped into one of the chairs. But she didn't and she wasn't.
The young Hufflepuff was perusing the bookshelves, quietly searching for....some sort of book. What an odd way to start out the term.

Either he just wasn't in the mood for studying and retaining the information or none of it made sense. Perhaps if he stopped skimming it would make more sense, but an absent mind afforded absent fingers and he flipped onto the next page. Head in hand and dazed eyes on the words of the pages, he didn't even notice his favorite Hufflepuff meandering through the shelving space.

Again, she was unsure as to the why, but the need to find a book rose when she reached the selves on creatures, and finally settled when her fingers landed on the spin of Why I Didn't Die When the Augurey Cried. Interestingly enough, she had never really picked up a book on them, so her interest in the creatures piqued when she removed the book from the shelf.
Flipping the book open, she skimmed the first few pages, mundane information that didn't pertain to the creature itself, as she slowly sauntered over to one of the tables. Blinking, he glanced up at the person across from him and abruptly let the book fall shut in exchange for standing slightly and reaching over to hug the Hufflepuff that had taken residence across from him. He was halfway to wrapping his arms around her shoulders when he realized that she hadn't said or acknowledged him, which meant he would scare the daylights out of her if he even considered going through with the embrace. So he remained frozen halfway to hug completion and gave the girl a rather awkward, lopsided smile asking for her to, when she noticed him, not make him remain in such a preposterous position. "Hey Arya."

Slowly she was becoming more aware of the person sitting across from her, and briefly considered moving to a new table or just taking the book back to her common room as to not disturb said person, but for unexplainable reasons, she continued to flip through the book, ignoring the thing inside her that recognized the voice of the murmurer.
Frowning thoughtfully at the words on the page, she let a hand get lost in her hair, only for it to be swiftly removed when the person sitting across from her attempted to hug her. Naturally her instinct was to jump in her seat startled, rocking the chair on the back legs in the process. But when she heard the familiar voice, and finally looked up at the his face, a wide grin spread across her face and she quickly settled the chair on all fours before she fell backwards. Ignoring the book that had been displaced by her movements, she reach over to her friend, and completed the embrace. "Hey Sabel!"

He nearly recoiled with the wince that took hold of his expression at Arya's jumping despite his best attempts to avoid startling her. Thankfully, she returned the embrace as quickly as the scare had happened. For good, extra measure he let the hug go on a moment longer and gave her and extra squeeze before parting. "Didn't expect to see you here."
Parting from her, he slowly lowered himself back in his seat, tilting his head sideways to peer at the spine of the book. "Why I Didn't Die When the Augurey Cried...that's a rather interesting title." His eyes flicked up to his friend. "You alright?"

Ahh. Sabel hugs, she loved them. Returning his squeeze with one of her own, let her arms fall from around him, and slowly descended into her seat, a hand going through her short hair to remove a few strands from her face. She wasn't surprised by his statement, this wasn't her usual hang-out, not unless she got the rare urge to read like the one she had a moment ago. "Didn't plan on being here, but I got the urge to read and had to come."
Her eyes fell to her book when he read the title, and it wasn't til then that she became aware of that strong urge, the urge that suddenly wasn't as strong as before. "I know....don't really read books on Augureys, but it held my interest," she looked back up at him shrugging her shoulders. "Figured it couldn't hurt to read." Nodding her head, she lazily flipped back to the page she was reading. "I'm great, how are you?"

"Interesting choice." Leaning back in his seat, he folded his arms across his chest and frowned at the book. Why, he wasn't sure. Maybe it had something to do with the title or the implications. It just sounded like a really dark book. Or maybe it was simply the presence of one of the words on the spine of the book.
"Decent enough I suppose." Shrugging his shoulders a little, he reached one hand forward and flipped the potions book closed, his eyes flicking up to Arya, wondering if she would catch the implication.

Arya didn't miss the frown that seemed to be directed to her book, and glanced down at it to see if she had ripped one of the pages in her freak out. Nope, all good. So why was he frowning like that? "Do you not like Augureys?" It was possible that was the reason. She was sure she would frown at a book on raccoons.
"Decent isn't great," she responded distractedly as she leaned forward and glanced at his book. "Or good." Why was he reading up on potions? And so early into the term, they hadn't even had any classes yet. "Why are you studying potions?"

With a slow sigh, he unfolded his arms and tucked his hands in his pockets. "I'm back in the class. Professor Lafay wants me to catch up on what I've missed." What he missed while he was expelled from her class for a time he thought had been all of eternity. Apparently it wasn't.

It was her turn to frown at her book as she considered the title, and flipped through the pages, considering the words. "Its not....dark...just disproves the theory that the birds are omens." She had yet to figure out what the cries signaled, something she would figure out while reading the book she supposed. Which wouldn't be happening right now. With a soft thud, she closed the book and turned her eyes back on his book.
"Definantly more interesting than potions," she glanced at his book again. "Especially ones we learned in class last term..." The girl had almost forgotten that he was banned from the lessons. Or was banned she should say. "Oh. That's good." It was more than good, it was great. But for some reason, she couldn't be overtly excited about his return. "So you went to see her?"

Ah, so the book wasn't as dark as it sounded. That was good. And it did sound rather interesting, the title was just strange.
"I...did." She sounded about as excited as he felt about the situation. Mixed feelings and all he supposed. "She was surprisingly pleasant." Not something he expected from Lafay at all really. Or that he hadn't before. Now, things seemed different. Or they were the same and it was simply his perception that was changing.

A slow nod left Sabel, his eyes drifting out the window beside them as a slight frown took over his expression. "I went to apologize for my attitude last semester, explained it was due to...home matters." Another slight shrug left his shoulders as he avoided glancing back at his friend. "She told me I could return to her class. Provided I catch up on this." He tapped one finger off the book before letting it rest on the cover.
Glancing up, he forced a small smile and light laugh to cover any emotion that may be presenting itself. "Strange isn't it?"

Her eyes drifted from his when explained the visit he had with the woman, mainly because she remembered the 'home matters' he had went through last term. That hadn't been fun, and she wasn't going to think on it any longer than she had too. Just as quickly as the memories had entered her mind, they had left. "I can help you if you like." She had attended most all of the lessons, and the ones she hadn't she had gotten the notes from her friends.
"Really strange," she crossed her arms on the table and leaned forward. "You think she's getting soft?" Was it possible they were growing on her?

"I don't know that she's getting soft..." He frowned a little, pulling his bottom lip into his mouth and chewing on it lightly in thought. "It's not that. She's, the same. But she's not." Hesitantly he glanced up at Arya, relieved that there wasn't a hint of sympathetic memory in her eyes. "I can't help wonder if it's the way she's always been, just hidden."
Shrugging he dismissed the musings and blinked down at his textbook again. "Would you mind? I've been flipping through and nothing is sticking." It seemed weird asking a fourth year for help in one of his classes but at the same time, it was no where near strange. This was Arya after all.

Arya frowned thoughtfully, letting his words run through her mind. It would make sense. Would explain why Treyen liked her more than Saylen. But at the same time, for various reasons, it didn't. Her eyes moved back up to his, head tilted to the side slightly. "I guess...though I don't know why she would hide it." Did she think it a weakness? Hm.
"Of course not." Shifting in her seat, she pulled her legs into the chair and folded them under her. "I'll just have to get my notes and potions stuff. When ever you want to study them, let me know." Arya didn't find it weird, only because she always did school work with at least one of her friends, working with Sabel wouldn't be any different.

Smiling, Sabel nodded and gave her a grateful smile. "As soon as possible if that's okay. Lafay wants me to know this before the first class. I'd like to keep good graces as long as I possibly can." And it would be interesting to see just how long that would be.
"Say, did you want to...go for a walk or something?" His eyes flicked down to her book, a slight bit of guilt twisting in his gut at asking her to abandon her reading. "If not that's cool, just thought it's a nice day out and all." The other reasons he would not, had promised not, to express. Ever again.

"Tomorrow it is then." She said with a smile and head nod. If they did it now, then she wouldn't be much help, her mind wasn't really set on potions or doing any school related work for that mater. But she did want to keep her friend on the woman's good side, now that they knew she had one.
There was no hesitation in her nodding her head in agreement to go on a walk with him. And it was belatedly that she followed his gaze and remembered her reason for coming to the library in the first place. Suddenly she had lost to urge to read. "Lets go for a walk." Picking up her book, she slid out of the chair, disentangling her legs. "I can always read this later." Like when she wasn't walking with him.

A small smile touched Sabel's lips and he sincerely hoped it didn't look like he got out of his chair too quickly. Pushing it back under the table, he gathered up his book in one hand and held out his other to his friend. It would be nice to walk Hogwarts grounds again with her, where there was less to worry about and where things were, for the time, almost normal.

To Arya, Sabel hadn't gotten out of his chair to quickly. Honestly she was glad he wasn't moving at a slow pace. He couldn't offer up a walk out on the grounds and then take his time, it probably would have driven her crazy. Her hand slid comfortably into his, and she was briefly reminded of the last time they went to the grounds at the beginning of term. No time to think of that now though, couldn't let those memories interfere with their walk. With a gentle tug, she started to walk out of the library.

Sighing, she wasn't even sure what kind of book she wanted to read right now. Although she couldn't find her copy of her Arithmancy text book, so maybe she should look for a copy of that? Sighing again, she stood back up on her tiptoes and started looking for the book.

Sighing again, she stood back up on her tiptoes and started looking for the book. Chloe went to the library to check out a certain book on Transfiguration. That particular subject enchanted her so she wanted to do some practice on her own. As she entered the area with giant book.shelves she caught sight of a familiar face from the feast. Chloe walked up to the girl and said, "Hey Aimee! Nice seeing you here. What sort of book are you looking into?".
