Yes, there was a big difference that she was aware of, but there was also many similarities that she thought would make teaching Ellie easy.

Ellie beamed, "Much appreciated." And hopefully, it won't be too hard. She is much older now, after all.

She took a moment to exchange her sneakers for the skates.

"Alright. So..." she took a deep breath and slowly stepped onto the ice with her arms out to balance her. That was the right thing to do, right?

"You know, I think Treyen mentioned that."

She smiled at Dallin as he said 'Hey gorgeous'...she knew that if it wasn't so cold and her cheeks weren't already red from it that he would be able to see her blushing. There was something about this little fourthie that always made her smile and get...well like this...

She rolled onto her knees following his lead and then stepped up on her right foot slowly trying hard to keep her balance. She took another step with her left foot and she was standing again. She gave Dallin a thumbs up.

"Well, the only thing that would make it better would be no coldness..." she paused looking around, "I love the snow and the natural sparkle of it and I love the ice on the lake, but I wish the temperature was like 70 and that the ice and snow would still stay..." yes that would be just perfect.

"So how's Hogwarts treating you?" she said with a smile and a wink as she turned in a little circle on her skates with her hair flipping behind her.

Dallin grinned as Satine stood up, too. He returned her thumbs up before experimentally sliding his skates back and forth. "Yeah," His eyes widened and he nodded a few times. "I don't like the cold. Or the snow. No matter how pretty it is." And in his opinion, it wasn't anything special. Maybe he just had a weird opinion of beauty. "You'd think that you could magick ice to not melt, right?" He shrugged. Maybe not.

He smiled softly as she twirled, waiting until she was facing him again before talking. "Honestly? I'm really liking it. I've made a lot of new friends. And I actually celebrated my birthday for the first time in years." Because in Merlin's, no one was cool enough to eat a birthday cake with him and blow up balloons.

Shaking her head when he spoke about seeing her skate, she pointed to her feet. "Well, you won't be seeing me out there. I don't have any skates. Besides, I like watching people fall from over here."

She gave him a little shoo with her hand.

Go on. Go fall again so we can laugh.

"Well... lucky for you I'm a wizard." Carter said with a smirk. He skidded to a halt and then plopped down next to her. "Geminio!" he said pointing his wand at his skates. He then changed the extra pair to a Slytherin green color. Afterwards he tossed the extra pair to her. "Now you can just shrink them 'till they fit." he said happily.

Haha, and now he could watch her fall too. Or, at least keep her distracted so she wouldn't laugh every time he fell.

"Hurry up and put them on."

Kurumi finished lacing up her skates and began gliding around the ice as if she were floating on a cloud. You could say that it was because of her mother and her insistance on Kurumi taking all those traditional Japanese dance classes that she had gained such good balance, but Kurumi liked to give more of the credit to kendo. She enjoyed that sport, not so much the dancing.

She then noticed Caroline skating around the rink as well. She hadn't seen her in such a long time! Kurumi skated closer to her Slytherin friend. "Hey," she waved as she came to a graceful stop.

When Sakura heard that there was ice skating she'd run back to the dorm to change into clothes better suited to skating, and of course to grab her skates. She hadn't thought that she'd be able to use them here but she'd brought everything with her from the states and therefore her skates had been included. She'd never been gladder than now.

Getting to the edge, after having run back from the dorms, Sakura hurried to put on her figure skates. This was going to be so much fun!

Sakura pushed herself up from her seated position after lacing up her skates, and then started to skate slowly around the ice. She was going slow to pick everything up again and get used to the ice she was on, find out where the imperfections were from other peoples skates, and also so that she didn't knock into anyone.

Arya HEARD that Hobo sitting a ways off and decided to ignore her. The thought did briefly cross her mind as to why she was here in the first place, it wasn't like she knew what skates were let alone how to ice skate.

Probably came to throw things at people.

"Its no problem," she grinned at the younger girl, shuffling on her skates a bit more as Ellie switched out her shoes for skates.

Her hands automatically went out when Ellie came out onto the ice, glad that she didn't fall. Good. Her grin widened. "So...gently push off with your back foot and that will send you gliding, but go slow so you don't lose your balance and fall." Skating back a bit, she gave the girl some space to skate, but stayed close enough in case she would have to catch her.

"Really? It was fun." It reminded her to see if he wanted to skate again. "Do you skate at all?" Cause if she did, then this really wouldn't be too bad.

Right.

Destiny had no idea what being a wizard had to do with her not having a pair of skates. Besides, last time she talked to Carter, she was sure he told her that he was a muggle. The boy was so confusing and she sometimes wondered why she spoke to him.

As Carter sat down on the ice, doing Merlin knows what, Destiny stole a quick glance towards Arya the Raccoon girl and secretly willed her to fall down. It would be even funnier than seeing Carter fall and there would be definite pointing in her direction.

When Carter spoke the spell that she knew all too well, thanks to Evelyn people trying to steal her horn, she tore her eyes off her ENEMY and looking at the duplicated skates, she FROWNED. She didn't want to skate! She only wanted to watch people fall! "I don't know the shrinking charm."

Lies!!

Slowly, like Arya advised, Ellie pushed off on her right foot. You could say it was successful; she didn't lose her balance, she didn't fall. However she only moved about an inch or two. Truthfully, she was afraid.

But she really shouldn't be. It wasn't so bad. And so she pushed harder with her left foot, but she didn't want to stray too far away from Arya. And she didn't know how to turn around. Or stop.

"No." But she had skates. Heh. "Once, a few years ago, my dad thought it would be a good idea to turn a lake into an ice skating rink. Like this." Like what the groundskeeper had apparently done. "But that had cushioning charms and my mum." Which made it a totally safer situation. "That was the first and last time I've skated."

Looking at the older girl, the Lion was sure he had seen her around, but he had never meet, nor spoken to her, "I am Patroclus by the way!" he introduced himself, holding out a hand,"The boy that almost pulled you down with him."

The boy was a klutz today.

Thankfully, the boy was alright and managed to stay on his feet. Once she was sure he had gained his balance and had straightened, Katie released her hold on his arm and hugged her coat closer to her body. It was definitely winter. "Good, don't want any accidents out here now do we?" The sixth year commented lightly, offering a small smile that grew a little bit with his words, eyebrows raising ever so slightly. "And here I was thinking you were just a beginner at ice skating. It was no problem, really." Katie assured him, nodding her curly-haired head.

When he was done fixing his skate and offered a hand, Katie uncrossed her arms to shake his hand as she spoke up, "I've seen you around the Abraxan stables before. It's nice to properly meet you, Patroclus." She had more than likely seen him in several classes, too. But Katie couldn't be absolutely positive of which ones, since she tended to focus more so on her work and what ever the professor was teaching at that time than on her peers. "I'm Katie, and thankfully the boy didn't pull me down. Falling is not nearly as much fun as the skating itself," pushing off gently, Katie slowly started to glide forward just a tiny bit, looking over her shoulder as she waited to see if he would follow suit. "Do you skate much?"

She didn't get very far, did she? That was alright she supposed, cause she did so without falling, but Ellie could totally do better. With each push Arya gave her an encouraging smile, and always kept close enough in case she fell. Cause falling was only fun when it wasn't on ice.

"Your dad sounds cool," she commented lightly. Really, any dad that turned a lake into an ice skating rink was cool in her books. Oh, cushioning charms! Why hadn't she thought of that before. Flicking her wrist, and catching her wand as it slide into her hand, she cast a cushioning charm on the area they would be skating. "There. Now if you fall it won't hurt." She couldn't do anything about the mom situation, but at least professors were here?

"He is." Her dad. She loved him muchly. "Mum's the strict one that worries."

Ellie liked this. She put her arms down to hang by her side and took longer strides...or glides?...

Arya cast a cushioning charm. Huh. Smart. "Thank you." She hadn't thought of that. She was thinking about cushioning charms..and ice skating..but she didn't put the two and two together. "So, you skate?" It surely seemed that way.

As soon as Effy heard that people were ice skating on the lake she grabbed her skates and ran outside. She had learned how to skate when she was little, and had immediately fallen in love with it.

Getting to the rink, she quickly put on her skates and stepped onto the ice. She did a couple of laps to warm up before doing a double axel. She landed perfectly, her curly red hair blowing around her as she skated backwards for a few feet.

Worried that she might hit one of the other students if she tried too many tricks, she turned around began skating around the ice at the same pace as everyone else.

"I think our parents are a bit of the opposites," she grinned at the girl. "My dad's more strict than my mom, she's more of the fun parent. Though he has his moments." All of this parent talk had her ready for Christmas break to see said parents.

As Ellie relaxed so did Arya, hands going down, and giving Ellie just a bit more space. "No problem." Didn't want to take any trips to the hospital wing. "I skate, fly, ride, swim, climb. You name it and I do it, so long as it cane be done outdoors." Her grin widened a bit at how she responded. "I can do indoor activities as well though. What about you?"

Ellie laughed. "They balance each other out real well. Dad makes Mum laugh, and Mum keeps things from getting too crazy." Imagine if her mum wasn't there for...even a day...the house will surely set on fire. Not just her bed...Heh.

She let the skates lose momentum until she stopped, then slowly turned around. Now she could go the other way for a bit. And she pushed off again.

Wow. Arya was...athletic. "You play Quidditch then?" Because to Ellie, flying=Quidditch. "I haven't ridden anything but a broomstick. Or climbed anything but a ladder. This holiday, however, Dad said we can go climb a mountain." Everest.

And then she'll have to tell Little Professor all about it.

"Inside activities are fun. Gobstones, Exploding Snap..." Wizarding Chess was NOT on that list, though. That was far too complicated, and Ellie simply didn't have enough patience to learn.

"Mostly the library," Kurumi said with a smile on her face. Too bad most of her time there was not on Hogwarts homework but her own personal assignment. Figuring out her family's history was ended up to be a much more difficult task than she had imagined. "I am so glad they turned the lake into an ice rink this year! I tried to charm my shoes into ice skates last year...that didn't work out so well..." More like a disaster. Her and Adam had ended up running away from the giant squid.

Arya couldn't help but laugh along with Ellie. "That they do, dad keeps my mom from doing anything too crazy, and mom makes sure my dad doesn't do too much work." Funny how opposites attract. Her dad would spend all day in his study if her mom didn't force him out. And her, she was always able to get him out of that room.

"Your doing good." She commented lightly. Good enough that Arya didn't even think the younger girl needed her help.

Quickly she shook her head. "Nooo, never. Not my cup of tea." Her brothers, and apparently a good few of her friends. "I meant horses when I said ridding, and I climb trees all the time, sometimes I do rock climbing." She preferred trees though. "That sounds like an awesome holiday trip though."

Arya had to giggle at their bit of miscommunication. "I was speaking more of muggle activities and sports when I said that, though those games are fun as well." She nodded her head while doing a quick spin. "My dad is trying to teach me wizards chess." And had been for a while now.

Ughh, this was her fear, but she had loved ice skating when she was young, she held her ice skates in her hands, but before she slipped them on she saw Caroline, Katie didn't say anything but quickly slipped her ice skates on and skated off to Caroline, steady now, she must not get hurt.

"PARTNEEER!!!"

Katie yelled as she skated up to her giggling as she gave her partner in crime hug, she wasn't doing that cause she was her partner though, she had hugged her because Katie was scared she would fall, at least Caroline looked like she was doing so Katie knew that she wouldn't fall over.

Oh dear, Kurumi was beginning to wish she had brought some of the batch of fresh pear bookies with browned butter icing she had baked earlier that day with her. The poor Slytherin girl was trembling like a leaf just by looking at the ice. It kind of reminded her of Adam last year, but she had somehow managed to teach him how to at least stand on the ice without falling on his bottom.

Slowly gliding over to the girl, Kurumi walked off the ice and stood next to her. "There is nothing to be afraid of," she smiled as she extended her hand. "I'm Kurumi."

Kurumi looked down to see that the girl was indeed without any ice skates. It was probably a good idea for her to have a pair on, but perhaps it was better this way? Without the added slippery factor of the blade, Helena would at least be able to get comfortable on the ice before the main event.

"We can put some skates on you later," Kurumi nodded feeling her own blades scratch the surface of the ice. Helena was now on the edge of the bank now, just one more step and she would be on the ice. "Now, if you do slip just remember there is no shame in that. I feel loads of times the first time I skated."

"Okay, no shame," Helena nodded and tried to repeat that in her mind. It was going to help... psychically at least. Okay. One more step and she would be on the ice. Still holding Kurumi's hand tightly, she made a tiny step. Another one. She was on the ice now. Good, she didn't fall... yet. Another step. Her feet began to tremble.
