"There'd either be a riot or a complete indifference." he retorted as he slipped quietly into a seat next to her. "If mugle history were anything to go by they would talk about it for a while, demand the high profile leaders to resign then forget all about it by the next football season." he snickered as he folded his arms across the table. "Do you mind me joining your group Kurumi? Seems like we're on the same page with a lot of things."

Kurumi listened to Helena and was about to respond when Salander showed up and Kurumi turned bright pink. Unable to find the proper words, she nodded in response to him joining their group.

"So...do you think they would be more mad at their leaders for hiding the truth of our existence from them, or the fact that we actually exist?" Kurumi wasn't really so sure herself. But, she remembered how mad she was about her parents hiding the fact that she was a witch for 11 years.

"Sal, Kurumi, do you mind if I join you lot as well?" she asked timidly after that little speech.

Then Kurumi saw Lexi approach their table. Well, the professor said about 3 people, but Kurumi didn't see the harm in her Gryffindor housemate joining as well. "Sure, welcome to the table," Kurumi smiled scooting over...closer to Salander of course. "Lexi, this is Eino and Helena," she said introducing the other students.

Gah!

Group work!

Ths was always the most stressful time during a class, looking around Patroclus tried to see if there was anyone available, anyone!

Now where were all his friends?

FOREVER ALOOOOOOONE!

Jake... couldn't help but feel a leettle rejected. Nobody even wanted to drag him to their group.

Wake up call, much?

Making a teeeeeeeny pouty face, Jake turned to the Professah. "Professor Welton... come be in my group. We can be all mature and sip herbal tea."

Herbal tea is cool.

"I think the fan girls would go nuts." Because if one thing was known about muggles, it was that they could be very enthusiastic about certain things.

Grinning, she turned her eyes to Sabel. "They're already nuts, but I think this would cause them to hit a new level of crazy." Fan girls didn't stop or let anything stop them from getting to whatever it was they were fan girling over. Scary really.

"Shall we partner up?"
And shall they get some people to join them in there group? Hm. Her eyes idly flicked away from her tall friend and to the other students in the classroom.

Thanks anyway though," Lexi said sharply and turned on her heel to wander through the room for another group to work with. No sense in crowding.

...

...

It could have been a possibility that the girl was either reading....or hiding behind the rather large History of Magic book she had, and sleeping. Either way, you had to get close and peak around the book to actually see.

And one would see that she was indeed...sleeping.

It wasn't her fault though that she didn't get much sleep the night before, and their topic as well as the warmth of the room and nauseating smell of sweets made her tired! Pfft, totally wasn't.

"Well I think we are supposed to be talking about what we think would happen if muggles found out about us and if they found out that we were hiding magic from them and stuff." Well at least that is what Nika understood. "We do need another person for our group though. I think that's what she said, three or more to a group. Do you know anyone here who you think would like to join us? If not I think we should be fine with just us two because she just said that people can do it on their own."

Getting the feeling that someone's eyes were on her, Sierra turned to see that Michael White was looking her way. Erm, had he said something to her? There were way too many people talking at once for her to have been able to tell. She guessed it was just as well, though, because the professor suddenly piped up and moved the lesson along.

The yeti for example is one of those cases. .”

Hearing such a discussing going on before her, surprised her slightly. She was happy to have gotten this kind of reaction from the class, but maybe things were getting a bit intense at the moment. Clearing her throat to get the attention of the class, she started to walk up and down the aisles.

”You all are bring up great points. Before Selina mentioned about judging a whole race by some people and touched on what would happen if the Statute was possible repealed. Helena and Mia touched on what if muggles figured out just what was going on. What if after all this time, they figured out just what was around them, that we have been living amongst them and just hiding our magic from them. I want to know your thoughts on it and I would like for you to work in groups. I’ll give you time in class to form your groups and work on this.”

Sierra nodded in reply to what the woman was saying about her answer. The woman--hmm. Why hadn't she picked up on the professor's name yet? Had she just been completely out of it during that part of the lesson, or had she just never introduced herself? Hmm, who are you, Professor Lady?!

She kind of tuned out until the woman mentioned forming groups. Uhh, forming groups for--what exactly? Maybe she should have thought to pay a little more attention during all the massive discussion going on earlier. You know, maybe suggested something else beside what she'd seen on that muggle tabloid.

Hearing her name, Sierra turned to see that the Puffer Boy who always seemed to lurking around every single corner in the entire castle was calling out to her. Did she want to join his group? Uhh, that was a possible no. Michael seemed to be a good kid, but Sierra didn't exactly mesh with Puffer Children.

What to do, what to do?

Wait just a minute. Two other Puffers would be joining Michael, as well? So it'd be Sierra and three Hufflepuffs?! That could not be a good mix, even though a part of Sierra felt bad for her thoughts when Michael was clearly just trying to be nice.

Hufflepuffs...

"Simon, don't be so down on yourself. I'm sure there are people who want to work with you," she replied with a smile.

Glancing around, she noticed a few more people without partners.

"Class, for those that don't have a group. You can work alone if you wish or you can find a group outside of the class. Continue with your discussions and I'll assign the homework shortly."

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on a minute. Class was about to end?! ...but Sierra hadn't even formed a group yet! She hadn't even had a chance to get started!

Sierra turned from the professor to the Puffer Brigade, and she began to realize that her only hope was to pal around with the Puffers.

O__O WHAT!? WHAT!?! "Idid'ndoit."

Sitting up straight, the Slytherin girl looked around wildly to see where the professor was, ready to answer any question, a few coughs escaping her here and there. Nooo, she wasn't drooling. Pffft.

No teacher? For Merlin sakes, who yelled her name?!

He couldn't keep it up for a moment longer than necessary and dropped his hands with a wide grin and laughter. "Yup. Crazy at maximum capacity if the wizarding world dropped the Statue." Perhaps they should be more concerned about that than anything else.

Shaking his head, he let his eyes follow Arya's gaze, considering the rest of the students in the room, the majority who seemed to be well paired. And Sierra who was yelling about as loud as a yeti. "Probably a good idea."

"So there would probably be some rioting about them keeping wizardingkind a secret...but I wonder if they would feel even more upset that this was all happening right under the noses. And... UFOs? They won't think we're some kind of aliens, would they? Okay, this conversation got waaay too messed up in Helena's head.

Good. He got a grin. And giggles. Bonus! Cue fist pump. Or something like that. A grin in return worked just fine.

"Too true." A small sigh had him as he glanced about, not seeming to find anyone else that needed a group. They could always butt in if needed? "So...seriously now. The memorabilia would skyrocket. It would become fashionable to wear hobbit feet and elf ears."

HoM Lesson One Homework

Part One: (worth 4 points)
  1. In your own words, what is the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy?
  2. When and why it first introduced?
  3. What is the significance of the year 1750 to the Statute?
  4. Name an example of a breach of the Statute.

Part Two: (worth 6 points)

With your groups (or if you choice to work alone) please outline an argument for or against the Statute in the present day. Is it still effective as it was when it was first established and is it still needed now?. Please site examples to support your argument.

OCC: If you are working in groups, only one person will need to submit Part Two for the group and the whole group shall get credit for. If you choose to RP meeting up with your group to complete this assignment outside the classroom, please include the links with the assignment. Please refer to the HoM Classroom Rules for the instructions for submitting homework and all rules pertaining to such.
"I'm going to assign the homework now so that you can have time to think it over before class is dismissed. I know some of you don't have groups yet, but there is still time. My office is also open for anyone that would like to talk to myself about the lesson or homework, be it a whole group or anyone that wants to work alone."

She had the sneaking feeling that she would be in her office a lot in the near future, but didn't bother her all that much.

"Now class, are there any questions?"

Emily jotted down the homework on her parchment, then turned to her group members. They hadn't had a chance to discuss anything yet.
"Shall we get started then?" she asked, she looked at them all with a friendly smile.

After putting her quill down, Emily figured she'd start off the discussion.
"I think the Statute is still very relevant and we still need it. First of all it protects us from persecution, which I belive is still a threat to us, no matter how much muggles have changed over the years. They still fear difference and the unknown. But at the same time it protects muggles from the dangers of our world."
She stopped there, she could have kept talking non-stop for a good half hour but figured it would be best to giver her group members the opportunity to respond.

Mia nodded her head at Emily and picked up her quill and a piece of parchment. Ready to write down whatever they talked about.

Listening to what Emily had to say, Mia nodded her head again. "I agree. While yes muggles are more tolerant of what is not the norm and even the extraordinary. They are also a lot more..." She chewed on her quill for a moment while she thought. "How could I put this? A little cocky perhaps? I mean look at all the things they have invented and created over the years. It wouldn't surprise me if it became some sort of contest between our worlds. Like who could outdo each other, stuff like that. And then you would end up with bickering and maybe even a war." It was a little extreme but she had known muggles to fight with their neighbouring countries over some ridiculous things.

"And there is the magical creatures to consider as well. Muggles are likely to to try and capture them and either use them for entertainment or research. They'll either put the creatures into extinction or they'll find themselves as dinner. No I think we're all better off staying in hiding."

And that was saying something seeing how she lived with a bunch of muggles.

Emily listened to what Mia had to say, she was pleased to hear that Mia shared her opinion about the Statute.

"I definately agree, our magical creatures would definately be at risk."
Emily thought about the various creatures the muggles might want to capture and hunt... they may not be very sucessful in the beginning, but no doubt they would find a way if they really put their minds to it.

"I think it would be hard for them to live along side us... I mean we have magical abilities. The abilities to do so many wonderful.... and aweful... things and I think there will be those that will be envious and greedy. I fear they would attempt to manipulate us, use us for their own gain. It wouldn't be safe, for us or them."

Emily considered all the things that could go wrong if the Statute was revised, or indeed undone.
"And what if it all went wrong... would they beable to reinstate the statute?" Emily paused thinking, "I imagine it would be difficult and near impossible if they let it go on for so long, and nationwide, or even world wide. It could end up being one big hellish mess."

With a grin on her face, K-Lee looked around at the group.

Raven copied first the homework, nice style giving assignment this early, before he look at k-lee and the other.
"I think it better to have an individual copy, but still we have to work to it as group" Raven voice out, grinning.

Raven wanted to hear what other may suggest.

Then she looked up from their discussions when she noticed that the homework was already on the board. She scribbled it down hurriedly before returning her attention back to her group members

Selina smiled at Cass, "Pleasure to meet you, Cass."

She was about to continue when the Professor assigned the homework. Her entire group quickly wrote down the words on the board. Taking their example Selina wrote down the homework and then returned to the conversation.
