Rowan did as she was asked and waited for further instruction. Well, she thought to herself, at least she had done THIS part last term. She was not looking forward to the taking off bit.

Trying hard not to focus on the drama going on around her, Sierra quietly placed her broom to her right side then stood just as the professor had indicated for them to do.

Either Vindictus was a super lean, mean, points-deducting machine, or the students were just in an extra snappy mood today. Either way, Sierra just decided to stand quiet and observe...like a snake in the grass. Her eyes moved from student to student as she observed her surroundings and waited for the lesson to continue.

Ouch, his arm started to hurt. As he looked at Fee, he mouthed a "What's up". The broom slightly flinched. Oh yeah, don't say up. He waited for the professor to say something.

Heather placed her broom on the ground and smiled. She couldn't wait till she got to start flying. She was horribly nervous though. So she was a pureblood, but she lived with muggles up until six months ago. Everything was so new to her.

There would be no yelling, just some stern reprimanding followed by the sound of points vanishing.

"Are you aware that First Years are not allowed their own brooms?" he asked her. "You will not get your broom back at the end of the lesson - you'll get it back at the end of the school term. Five points from Hufflepuff for breaking this rule and another five for assuming that you'll get your broom back after class ends."

He paused.

"And a final five points for rudely shoving your broom into my hand and walking away before I even had a chance to speak with you."

"Now that you've cost your house valuable points, I would like to suggest that you start following the rules and do everything possible during this lesson to earn back the points that you lost."

Another dramatic pause.

"Go line up with the others so that I can continue with the lesson," he said and then he heard another voice.

Oh. No. She. Didn't.

"Young lady, come here now!" he said sternly and watched as her broom hit his clenched fist and bounced to the ground at his feet. "Fifteen points from Slytherin!"

What was up with these first years?

Elektra looked at him and her jaw dropped. FIFTEEN?!?!?!? Elektra thought to herself. Oh she was mad. All she could do was glare at him. Fifteen points. Wow, this Professor had some short temper. She walked back to him and she picked up her broom and waited him to open his fist up. "So I don't hurt you...Professor...please open up your hand so I can hand you my broom." She said through her teeth nearly hissing at him.

Lara did as she was told, put the broom to her right and was ready to take off but it wasn't the time yet!

What!!! fifteen points from Slytherin!! Lara was about to faint when she heard this, she turned around to see who caused this scandal....of course it was a firstie as usuall! this was no good for Snakes at all, they need to make this up and Lara may have something to do with whoever caused this.

And yet the class didn't officially start for Lara because they were still on the Ground!

As expected Violet cost her House, even more points. She just stood there silently. Violet was going to say that she didn't really do anything wrong and that she didn't even shove the broom in his hand, and therefore didn't see that 15 points should be taken off, but she knew better and stayed silent. When he had finished Violet silently turned and walked back over to the line not saying anything. Violet just sighed trying to let it go, but she couldn't, she had just cost her House 15 points...pretty sure she would be hated now by her fellow Hufflepuffs. She also felt like she was on the verge of crying, but she held them back fighting them. Violet just tried to breath calmly. So far....Flying wasn't going to be looking like what she was hoping it would be...

Holy Merlin on a broomstick!

Hide ya Snakes! Hide ya Puffers! They're points-robbing everybody around here!!! Sierra's eyes grew wide, though she didn't dare move a muscle or take one slight glance to the left or right.

Professor Vindictus was freaking scary! ...and she'd thought Lafay would be the one she'd have to impress! She eyed her broomstick out of the corner of her eye, silently willing it to help her to not mess up...

...at all.

Merlin!

He was already holding two brooms - one in each hand.

"If you haven't noticed, my hands are currently full," Vindictus replied. "When a professor calls for you to come up and speak with them, you don't ignore them. When they ask a second time, you don't angrily toss out a reply. Then when you finally speak to them, you should do so without a negative attitude."

He stared at her.

"Those fifteen points were only for breaking the rule about First Years not being allowed their own brooms, ignoring me and for your first rude response. More points will fall if you don't drop that negative attitude of yours."

It was a warning.

"Place your broom on the ground to my left, then grab a school broom for the lesson and get back on the line with the others. You may pick up your broom at the end of the school term."

Ok Conan was scared. This was super scary. Scarier than anything he had experienced before. He held his broom in his left hand. He was ready for all tasks set. Wait it was meant to be on the ground to his right. But he was left handed. He couldn't use his right hand.

Elektra wanted to say something so bad, but her father taught her better than that. She sucked it up and placed the broom GENTLY to his left and then backed away from him and walked back to her spot and stood next ot her best friend Violet and saw that she was about to cry and Elektra glared at the Professor and looked at Violet. "It's ok Violet. We'll get through this...somehow." She said softly to Violet and placed her broom down remembering his instructions before he basically just picked on Violet and Elektra. Oh, this day was not going well at all.

Helena's mouth just simply fell open, looking at the scene caused by some fellow first years. Oh, and a Slytherin as well. And fifteen points?! They were doing so well... Okay, they had only five points but they were the first ones, anyway. Until this started. Great, she thought.

Jamie bit her tongue and prayed it wasn't bleeding. She wasn't the one being yelled at but it was hard not to yell at the person losing points. If the girls attitude caused them to lose more points then she would surely lose her mind. She looked at the broom and waited silently for the further instructions...if not that then another loss of points.

Charisa watched a bit flustered as Professor Vindictus deducted points from a couple students as if it were his job. Well, it was. But she hadn't noticed any Ravenclaws getting into any trouble, and they'd better not. They couldn't risk losing House points.

Taking sturdy-looking school broom from the rack that Vindictus had indicated, Charisa stood over to the white line, leaving the proper amount of space between her and the next student, and put her broom down on the ground. Right side? Oh, right. She walked around the broom so that it lay on the ground to her right. All set. She looked back at the professor and waited for more instructions, tapping her fingers together lightly in excitement for getting up in the air and flying.

Oh, Emmaleigh felt like such a fool. It looked like most of those in class were first years. If only she had managed to learn how to fly last term, she wouldn't be down here now. She sighed as she got up off the ground and walked over to the broom rack. Thoughts of the things she could be doing in the castle filled her head. She grabbed a broom without looking for the "best" one because she had gotten distracted by the first years who were angering Vindictus. She shook her head wondering why they couldn't just follow the rules. She headed over the the line, and placed her broom on the ground like instructed.

Violet looked over to Elektra seeing her. Her eyes were getting a little bloodshot and her cheeks were turning red. Violet felt so embarrassed, she just wanted to run away and hide in her room to cry. She never imagined that someone would be so cross with her, that's never happened to Violet before, even growing up she's always been so polite and respectful. Now that she had cost her house to be at the bottom with -30, Violet wasn't sure how to feel. A tear ran down her cheek, but Violet quickly wiped it away and went back to acting as if nothing had happened. Her eyes were focused on the floor.

Now that the drama had ended, Vindictus shook his head and placed the two brooms he was holding on the ground with the other. Time to continue the lesson.

He walked past the line where the students were lined up and turned to face them.

"When commanding your broom, you must use a firm voice - the command will not work properly if you're scared or doubtful."

"Open your right hand and place it over the broom. In a firm voice, say the command 'Up!' and the broom should rise up and hit your open palm. As soon as the broom handle hits your palm, grasp it or else the broom will float back down to the ground."

"Everyone - give it a go!"

Hugo looked at the broom, then at the teacher and firmly said: "Up."
Immediatly the broom floated in his hand, and he gripped the broom tightly.
He wasn't the best at flying, but this- this was easy right?

Elektra looked over at Violet. OH. NO. HE. DIDN'T!!!! Elektra saw that Violet was on the verge of crying and she looked right at the Professor. Oh the things she would want to do, but keep her cool and huffed. "Somebody stick a wand in my eye and get me out of here." She said to herself softly.She rubbed Violet's back to calm her down.

Fee smiled over at him and her stomach tickled a little.Thisnwas a special day."Friendanniversary",she mouthed grinning like mad.


The blonde stood there on the white line with her broom in hand as she heard the professor speaking in an angry tone.Ohhh noo please dont let it be a Slyrherin student.And baaaam it was one of the Slytherin firsties. Really? No wy they just lost 15 housepoints just because the girl couldnt watch her mouth? Terrible.Really terrible.They needed every point they could get.Grrrr.

Jamie held her hand over the broom and very firmly said,"Up." It came up but she didn't close her hand on it fast enough so she tried again. "Up." She caught it and beamed. She would be just fine.

Helena looked down at the broom and said "Up!" Nothing happened. Okay, firm voice, she thought, taking a deep breath. "Up!" she said again. This time, the broom hovered a little above the ground and fell. Uhh please, she thought, holding her opened palm above it again. "Up!"

The broom had risen up and she quickly grasped it. It worked!

Right so Conan did have to put it on the floor. He must've missed that in the panic. "Um Sir." Conan raised his hand to the man. "I am left handed. Does that matter? Or do I have to change the sides?" He had to ask, because his right hand was rather pathetic.

Oh, yeah, this class was going to be super easy. She hoped so, at least. Sierra pretty much already knew this much. She'd never have tried out for the Quidditch team otherwise. Sure, she wasn't an expert, but she liked to at least think she knew a little bit when it came to flying.

She spread her arm wide, her right hand finally out just above the broom's handle. "Up!" she commanded, and up the broom rose, coming into contact with her hand quite nicely. Sierra enclosed her hand around the broom and held it so that it wouldn't fall back to the ground.

With the broom successfully in her hand, Sierra took a moment to eye her surroundings once again. The drama seemed to be over, at least. Sierra sighed softly then glanced at her broom.
