The grounds after dark can seem like a different place than they appear during the day, but as long as you stay clear of the forest, there shouldn't be much to be afraid of. Especially when there appears to be a large bonfire set in a clear spot near the lake, and Renée had made sure everything was set up. A multitude of logs were arranged near the fire, for the students to sit on if they liked, especially as there was still some snow on the ground. Behind the improvised seating, several smaller unlit fires were arranged for later, but for now the big fire was the focus.
Not to mention the containers of various campfire treats: hot dogs and marshmallows near a collection of sticks, and other s'mores makings a bit further from the flames along with a smaller basket of hazelnuts, not far from the curled up form of her crup puppy on a pile of blankets. She'd tried to leave Bowie behind, but he wanted to be outside with her. As long as he stayed away from the fire, she was okay with it and she knew he'd enjoy being around the students. And for now she stayed near the fire, keeping warm as she waited for people to arrive.

Emily moved closer to the fire as everyone else got their nuts. She was freezing!
Once people had moved away, she went to fetch a nut and held it on her palm like it would explode. She was such a wimp.
But first, she needed a question.
Still holding the nut at an arms distance, she thought, her tounge sticking out slightly.
She clicked her fingers and set the nut by the fire. 'Please pop' she thought.
The teacher had said it may take a while, so Emily took a stick and a hot dog and put it over the fire. It was so warm!!!

Alex stood up and walked over to the hazelnut pile, thinking to himself about what he wanted to predict. He certainly wasn't going to be focusing on a relationship--he hadn't met any girls that were appealing to him, and he wasn't even twelve yet! The last thing on his mind was a girlfriend. He was just worried about remembering where everything was in the castle.
He grabbed his hazelnut and walked back to the fire, stopping to grab a s'more before he sat down next to the fire and placed his nut next to it. Ok, he wanted to know about...his final exams. Would they be successful or would he fail all of them? If this nut could tell him, that'd be awesome! Then he'd know whether or not he needed to start studying like right now.
He took a bite of his yummy s'more and waited, watching the nut in interest, even though he knew it would take a while to do something. La de da. He'd just sit here. Eating his s'more. Yummmmm.

Luin got up and went over to the container to grab a hazelnut for herself. She patted the dog as she went back to her seat. She then sat for a few minutes, thinking of what she would want to divine. After awhile she came up with a question Will I ever become a prefect? she shrugged, it was an interesting question and one that she had thought of but knew it would be a long way off and circumstances would change before it could even happen. She then set the nut by the fire, sitting back as she started on another s'more.
After awhile the nut popped a little, she looked at it, hmm, intersesting, part of the shell had popped open but the other part of it had burned as well. She frowned, that was unexpected, kind of like no answer at all.

Selina looked at Bishop when she answered Selina's question. She could tell the Professor was startled by the reaction of her seemingly harmless question. However, Selina was not comfortable when people talked about abilities. It made her feel like she was a freak and everyone was watching. Of course no one knew and if they did no one would care. But the niave minds of eleven year olds play tricks on them.
She was sitting beside Kurumi near the fire and pulled her feet into her chest as if to protect herself. The shield that she had worked so hard to break down when it came to Divination was up again. The uncomfortable feeling and the fear was back ten fold. But then she looked at Bishop. Her eyes seemed to gleam with the sentiments that she would be there to help Selina as best as she could. So slowly Selina pulled her feet back out infront of her and pushed her hair out of her face. Time to be brave.

Time to get his nut. Because he'd been staring at the fire for so long, finding the nut became the hardest task ever, his eyes were too accustomed to the light, and everything else was dark.
But, yeah, he didn't get anything to eat, though, however he did get the hazelnut. In previous years, he usually came up with a question pretty quickly. All those questions were now answered and he had no clue as to what he should be asking. He wasn't doing the relationship stuff, since he didn't think Divination should be put to use for those purposes, BUT, even if school was still in session, he felt the urge to find out if he'll be seeing a certain redhead during the summer and he smiled at the thought.
Then Treyen shook his head. Why? Because Arya was wrong, the boy didn't like Ellie that way. Nope. And, also, Divination is not to be used for said purposes. That was his opinion, anyway.
His eyes managed to catch a tree in the far distance and suddenly remembered something he'd read in Aparecium. His gaze followed the nut in his hand, and he was now focusing on one question. 'Was the Herbology Professor going to be found?'. Yes, that was a good question. A good, selfish question.
Focus some more. Nut near the fire. And now he waits until it burns or pops. Easy enough.

She turned the nut in her hand and concentrated on it while thinking Will Ben's father approve of us dating? She then placed it near the fire.
She watched her friends and then turned to the nut...nothing yet! "So, what are you guys asking for?" she asked as she took another bite out of her hot dog. Her attention went back to the hazelnut. "Oh, no," she said as she watched the shell begin to blacken as the nut slowly burned right in fron of her. "That's so not good," she replied.

Maddie nibbled on another marshmallow as she stared at her hazelnut, waiting for something to happen. This was kind of boring. Actually, no, it was reaaaaally boring. It wasn't doing anything. Why wasn't it doing anything?Hazelnuts weren't very exciting, and hers didn't look like it was doing any popping anytime soon. She poked it with her toe, but it just rolled a little closer to the fire. Stupid nut. She was on the verge of giving up, when...
POP!
She accidentally let out a little squeal and jumped backwards a little. Then she got up and went over to inspect the remains of her hazelnut. Yep, that was definitely popped. Yay. That meant she got a sugar quill. Although she had already known that before, anyway.
Hmm.... what to do now? Should she get another nut? Maddie decided that was probably a good idea, since the lesson would probably go on for a little longer and she didn't want to just sit there doing nothing. So she got up and got herself another hazelnut, giving Professor Bishop's adorable little puppy another stroke as she did so.
Now, what to assign to this one?

Chloe grabbed a few hazel nuts and then and some marshmellows as well. Okay what question, hmm, perhaps. 'Will I ever my little owl ever return to Hogwarts. She has been taking an awfully long time to get back since I last sent her out. Chloe then placed one of her chestnuts over the fire while thinking about her question with her eyes closed. In time she heard a rather large pop. She opened her eyes and saw the chest nuts top had blown. Yes, my little owl will return soon. Chloe then dscarded the rains of the walnut in the fire and replaced the walnut with a marchmellow on a stick, yes she was gonna enjoys this. One the marshmellow was nice and soft she removed it from the fire and enjoyed. Yes this class is sweet.

Still deep in thought, Kurumi nearly fell over backwards when her hazelnut made a very loud POP! noise. Pulling herself up off the dirt, she crawled a bit closer to her nut to see that it had not only made a loud popping noise, but it had also split open right down the middle. She wasn’t sure what it splitting meant, but she assumed that it was the nut’s way of telling her that she didn’t have another moment to waste.
Nervously, she picked up the nut and tossed it around in her hands as it was still rather hot. In he couldn’t help her, perhaps there was another person at Hogwarts who could. Yet, he had seemed to be the one who understood her the most. The one that had been able to look inside her and see what she was both afraid of and longing for in the first instant that they had met each other. That, and he served fantastic green tea. If he could teach her…perhaps she could finally get the answers she was starving for.
That settled, Kurumi made a mental note to pay the Stone Gargoyles another visit very soon.

When you know the secrets of the future the surprises of life become a thrill. Very rarely did Selina get the opportunity to be genuinely surprised. So now that she was being asked to find out another thing that would spoil her rare moments of unawareness Selina was at a loss. What could the girl who saw everything ask about?
Then she had a question in her head. It had been one she had been thinking about for a while now. But she was too young for anything to happen with her question. It did not prevent her from choosing the question and waiting for her answer.

The nut was NOT doing anything, it was just standing there, close to the bonfire -the pretty flames- doing nothing, just being stared at. Yes, the hazelnut was being stared at by Treyen, who happened to be focusing on his question. 'Was the Herbology Professor going to be found?'.
It was a fair question, wasn't it?
And the nut seemed to be enjoyed the attention it was getting. Well, yeah, he couldn't do much about it, could he?

BURNING. That meant...negativeness. Oh, my Gilderoy, "HE'S DEAD!" the boy exclaimed, jumping up from his seat as he watched the burning nut. But then his eyes to Bishop, and he tried to hide the surprise in his face, "I mean, well, the hazelnut is dead." He shrugged, sitting down again.
"Of course," Charley replied.
She winced.
"I don't know what to ask for, maybe something with my dad...."
Her voice trailed off.
She watched Jaina's hazelnut burn.
"No, no it isn't.....If you don't mind, what did you ask for?" she inquired, concerned.
Jaina sighed and rested her head on her knees. "It was stupid, I know, but I asked if Ben's dad would approve of me as his girlfriend," she said with a frown. She straightened herself and said, "Oh well, as long as Ben wants me around, I'll stay." She gave a little smirk to let them know that she wasn't too worried, but still, she didn't want too much drama.

Emily raised her hand. This wasn't good news... not in the least. Though she already sensed it would turn out this way. She had been feeling out of touch with Xavier for long enough now to realise that they weren't going to be the happy couple their parents wanted them to be.
Still unsure of her divination skills Emily raised her hand. "Professor?... am I doing this right?" she asked uncertainly. "And how accurate is this form of pyromancy?" she asked, wondering whether or not she may have placed her hazel nut too close to the fire.

It was one thing to let the charm lapse when she was alone in her office, but she was too used to being careful to not recast it before they'd come outside. And the idle thoughts were pushed back as she heard two questions being posed. Seemed things weren't quite going as smoothly as she'd thought.
Heading over to Emily first, she looked down at the Ravenclaw and the now-blackened nut calmly. "It looks like you did it right. Seems whatever you asked didn't get the best reaction, but I can assure you that this is no more accurate than anything else that hinges on natural things. It's easier to control practices like cartomancy or tasseomancy. Interpreting symbols," she shrugged. "Some nuts pop, some burn. I wouldn't worry overly much." It was just an activity, and one she didn't particularly believe in. It fit with the idea of pyromancy though, which was the only reason she'd chosen it. Hoping she'd reassured the Ravenclaw enough, she looked up again to smile encouragingly at Nika. "Goals shouldn't be anything too complex. Continuing to check on the others, Renée was hearing all sorts of reactions, which ranged from delight to something that was definitely not. It was a little entertaining, really, and made her curious to know what their goals had been. Especially those that had seemed to have gotten the most animated responses. She wasn't about to ask, though, letting them keep it to themselves unless they'd chosen to make their question known. Most people hadn't said it aloud, so it seemed they were all being quite particular.

He could answer or not, it didn't realy bother her either way, but she had to ask.

Emily sighed in relief... thank merlin for that!... she felt like a great wight had been lifted off her shoulders. Emily didn't usually put so much faith into divination, she knew it was an art and with that there were many interpretations that could be made... and the whole thing with the future not being set in stone and how outcomes may vary depending on the decisions individuals made. Still she felt a lot better knowing it wasn't the end of the world... or the end of her relationship with her mother... "Thanks Professor", she said smiling.
She then stood up and made her way across to the other side of the fire to get another hazelnut, the puppy was so cute, laying there resting its head on its paws. Emily didn't disturb it. Instead she took her second hazel nut and returned to the fire side. She decided she would ask one more question... for good measure.
Will I get enough NEWTs to become an Auror? she asked herself... and the nut.
Emily placed the nut in the same place that she had put the last one... and crossed her fingers in the hope that this one wouldn't burn to a crisp as well.
Minutes passed and all of a sudden... *POP*.
Emily blinked and looked down at her nut... it had popped alright. A smile spread across her face. At least one possitive thing would be achived this year she thought. Though even if the nut had burned she knew deep in her heart that nothing would get in her way of becoming an Auror.

Sierra watched her classmates (and her Puffer Brother) for just a few minutes. Again, she was completely unsure of herself when it came to Divination, but she always managed to get by somehow. She sighed to herself as she remembered last class, when she'd told Satine Farris that she was old, decrepit, and needed to be rebuilt. At least the older girl had taken it lightly...
...a popping or burning nut, though? This was fire they were dealing with here, so Sierra was being extra cautious. Finally, she headed over to the container and retrieved a hazelnut. As she headed back to the fire, she thought about the question she'd like to ask.

It didn't take too long for her to be completely distracted from her question-asking, though. Some idiotic boy was dramatically yelling about the burning of his hazelnut. When her back was turned, Sierra gave him one of her classic eye rolls before returning her attention to the task.

The boy should know about the 'death' issue, since it was him the one who argued with Ellie about the different meanings that tarot card could have that didn't remotely related to death, or endings, or whatever. Yes. But, this was way too....NOT alike.
He was certain that wasn't a hazelnut anymore, "Oh, we don't know that, do we?" she'd just said that it didn't necessarily meant death. She just said it. "But, er, I have no idea, I don't know his name," he shrugged, slightly worried about the fact that he failed to notice what the Herbology dude had as a name. He knew it started with a 'C'. That was all.

Nika looked at her professor and smiled. "Thank you it did help!", she nodded her head and then proceeded to roll the nut back and forth in her hands. "Not complex.... yes or no response... simple..." Nika was voicing her thoughts out loud again. Oh dear. Nika tried to think of a goal that she had for the future. After what seemed like hours later Selina began to rub her arms. The cold air of the night was beginning to get to her. Everything was so beautiful and full of life at the start of the lesson. Now all of the students waited and an eerie feeling seemed to glaze across the fire. Selina did her best to ignore these facts, but she was good at reading the world around her.
Then her attention was diverted with a loud "Pop!"
Selina was shocked, the nut was wrong. No way could her answer be what it had just implied.

Who couldn't like you? And I'm sure Ben won't let him scare you away if he doesn't for a while." She grinned, then laughed along with the other girls when Belle's hazelnut popped.
"Thanks, I certainly hope so."
She pushed her hair back behind her ears again.

Just as Belle finished her sentence, and Charley was poising herself to respond, a loud, staccato snap came from beside the fire, jolting the wits out of her.
Charley gasped and began to cry, a large smile forming on her face. The nut had popped!! She looked at both her friends giddily but inquisitively, as if to ask, "So what exactly is going to happen, then?" but certainly not expecting any answer.
