Default Divination 1

Once you arrive to the Divination classroom, you enter to find what looks like a standard classroom setup. Desks arranged in the center of the room, facing Professor Bishop's desk and organized into pairs, look toward a charmed blackboard which currently simply says "Divination Lesson 1" in a graceful cursive. A good-sized bookshelf is against the right-hand wall and contains a large amount of small fabric-wrapped shapes.

Professor Bishop is seated at her desk, writing on something, the wooden box from her office moved to the desk in here, but she's still aware of the room. Don't think she isn't, just because she looks occupied with other things.

Feel free to take a seat, talk quietly, get your things ready and class will start shortly.

Feel free to post your character entering, speaking to each other or the professor. I'll check in when I can, so don't go overboard, and the lesson will begin tomorrow.

He had been invisible. Invisible naps were naturally more satisfying than regular ones.

"Yes, Professor," the Security Liaison spoke up, falling in step behind the Hufflepuff boy. "I was wondering the same, if I could perhaps speak with you at your convenience."

Gevrik smiled politely and stood with his hands folded behind his back as he waited for an answer.
Simon was standing there when someone spoke from just behind him. "Professor, there's this crazy person behind me." Simon had no idea who the man was or where he had come from, there was no way he had come from the door because Simon could see that, and no man had come from there, Simon was too scared to turn around to see who it was.

Simon looked at the Professor, he was still upset about someone thinking it was alright to sneak about when the Professor talked again. "Well I was wondering if you had any idea where I could learn a few tips about Divination." Simon thought it would be good to try and learn a bit more about Divination so that he could actually know what was going on.

There seemed to be enough Slytherins for that, if they were willing to help their housemates. But once she returned to her desk, she smiled as Kurumi approached. “No, feel free, Miss Hollingberry,” she replied. “As long as I get them back at some point.” She hadn’t brought her favorite decks into class anyway, those she wouldn’t lend out.
Turning as she heard Jake speak, she sent the Hufflepuff a nod. “You’re welcome. Any time,” she said with a smile, noting he’d left his deck on his desk. It wasn’t a big deal, really, as she could clean up after everyone left, but even so, she lightly flicked her wand at the deck, wrapping it again in the fabric and sending it to rest on the shelves. It made her feel better. But then she had more students with questions, and she turned back to give Simon and Miss Kelley a smile. “Certainly,” she said to both of them, “Would you rather talk right now, or is this something you’d rather people not hear?,” she asked. "Well, if you are able to, I'd like to speak now, but it seems you are quite in high demand. I could come at another time, if you'd like me to, or you could suggest a book from the library. I just don't really understand this and that's not exactly....usual, for me. To not understand lessons, that is."

She still had the feeling that he was similar to her in certain ways, which both piqued her curiosity and unnerved her a little. It was definitely different than when she’d discovered Jared’s ability, which had also piqued her curiosity. But she felt like she completely trusted the Charms professor. The security liaison was another story altogether. She’d hear him out, though. There was no reason not to, but she’d talk to her students first.
Gevrik's eyes returned to Renee's. He knew quite a bit about her and could...sense that she knew something about him too.

"I can wait until your classroom empties further." He took a step back from the professor and her approaching students and crossed his arms.

Speaking of such students... interesting how he had been documented as crazy without so much as a second glance from the child.

He stared at the back of the boy's head. Just stared.

As Simon spoke, Renée gave him a slightly admonishing look as he called Mr. Gevrik crazy. Practically to the man's face, and while she had to appreciate the show of bravery, she also wasn't about to agree with it. "Simon, I'd prefer it if you didn't call people names in my classroom," she said gently, already noticing how the dark man was noticing the comment. That was never good, and especially when she was still fairly certain she could sense things about the security advisor. She wasn't about to let either one do anything to the other, and she especially didn't want her poor little student getting himself in over his head.

But she nodded as he went into his explanation of why he'd asked to speak to her, features softening slightly at the scared look in his eyes. "I'm glad you're interested," she replied. "I'd imagine you could find quite a few books in the library, or if you like I could let you look at some of my personal collection. But perhaps we should consider that for a later date," she added, hinting that it would probably be better for him to take his leave before Mr. Gevrik bored holes in his head. The books would last, and Simon could always inquire with Madam Donovan as well, if he chose the library.

And as Miss Kelley spoke up, Renée turned to the Ravenclaw girl with another smile. At least she hadn't made any comments about the surprise arrival to the room, even if it hadn't truly been a surprise to herself. "Whatever you prefer, Miss Kelley," she replied, still as friendly as she'd been to Simon. "but if it's a book you're after, I'd imagine the same I told Simon holds true. What specific topic were you interested in? What we discussed in class?" A thoughtful look crossed her face. "I don't have the book here, but if you stop by my office later, I should be able to find it for you to borrow." She meant it when she'd said borrow. She trusted her students, but there was still always the possibility they'd misconstrue her intentions.

Back to Ikenna Gevrik, of the staring at Simon's head, and Renée quite intentionally gave the man a smile. Even if she still had her suspicions, and those suspicions still came from the almost kindred spirit quality. Kindred spirit that she didn't trust as completely on her side, but there was still a bit of a similar quality. She had a feeling he knew it as well, but her expression didn't falter. "Of course. Thank you, Mr. Gevrik," she replied to him. "I'd imagine the students should filter out soon." There only seemed to be a few pairs working on readings still, at least.

She just had to hope he didn't bore holes in anyone else with those eyes while he waited. People had thought she had a piercing gaze whens he wanted. It seemed he had that in spades.

"Yes, Professor, what we discussed in class," Charley responded enthusiastically, trying not to pay the man also vying for Professor Bishop's time any attention. "You could just give me the name and author of the book you're thinking of; Madam Donovan is sure to know if she has it."
"Accio," she whispered, and retrieved her notebook and quill from her bag, so Professor Bishop could write down the information in it. If she pleased, that is.

Simon looked at the Professor. "Sorry Professor." Simon said, he still thought that the man was scary. "Professor I'll come and see you in your office later." Simon smiled, he stood there wondering if he should go but decided against. "Professor, is he staring at my head?" Simon asked he had this feeling that the man was and he didn't like it. "Also when is the best time to come and see you?"
Renée continued to sense Simon's discomfort at Mr. gevrik's presence in the room, but while she wanted to help him get past his fear, she also wasn't about to alert the security advisor to anything. She wanted to try and figure him out first, even though she had a feeling she wouldn't be able to go about it through her usual means. Any of them, so she was going to continue to just be extremely careful around the man. But she could still speak to the little Hufflepuff, without saying anything untoward. "It's alright Simon, and I'll look forward to seeing you then," she replied with a smile, as he spoke. That was easy enough. But at his question she gave him another warning look, paired with the slightest of nods, before she addressed his subsequent question. "I'd suggest you not choose to visit me when you're supposed to be in another lesson, or after curfew, but other than that, any time is fine. If I'm not there, you can wait outside until I arrive," she responded, giving the boy another smile. That was why she'd tried to make the corridor outside her office fairly comfortable, at least.

ooc: Unfortunately, I haven't been able to come up with a book title that agrees with me, and there's not really anything I can find in canon. So you might have to make up something on your own. :/

Turning her attention from Simon as she'd answered his questions, Renée smiled at Miss Kelley as she spoke enthusiastically, before giving her a wry grin as the insistence for the name of the book was continued. She had to give the Ravenclaw credit for trying not to react to Mr. Gevrik's appearance, as it as evidence of some level of focus. Something she had to think might be a bit due to the House the girl was in, but there were many other possibilities as well. "Of course," she replied with a nod. "However, if it happens Madam Donovan doesn't believe she has it, you're still welcome to visit me in my office." She imagined the school library still had just about every book, as it had had over a decade ago. She'd always meant to go back and look, partially out of personal interest. But as a notebook was summoned, she took it from Miss Kelley with another grin before scribbling a title down with a similar handwriting to what had been up on the chalkboard during class. "Was there anything else you wanted to speak to me about?," she asked then, returning the notebook to its owner carefully. Not stalling, exactly, as there were still other students in class. She simply didn't want to push the girl out.

Waiting for the response from Miss Kelley, Renée turned as she heard another person approach, and sent the Slytherin girl from the back of class a smile. "That can happen, Miss Slytherin. Certain thoughts can simply grab hold of you and distract you from other things for a while. I would suggest you do try to learn focus, ways to push thoughts to the back of your mind until you have time to really contemplate them," she said with a slight nod. "But that is a good question, and I'm flattered to be considered a master at the subject," she continued with another smile. "In fact that is something that distracts many people. It seems certain people do have more of a . . . predilection for Divination, I'll say. That's not to say others can't manage to open themselves up to the subject, but they might in fact have a bit more struggle ahead." Ironically, as far as the conversation went, she felt she had more of a blood connection to another ability. She'd gotten rather adept at certain forms of Divination, however, as well. She wasn't about to say that to the students, though. Not when she already felt an uphill climb ahead. She hoped that had answered the question, however.

Cass looked around the room and noticed that a lot of the students were leaving. She had better make this quick. She needed to get back to Ice as soon as possible.

She flipped over the three cards that she had chosen and revealed them to her. "The Fool, The Hanged Man, and Temperance." She said.

SPOILER!!: The fool

Cass brought out her book and read "At #0, the Fool is the card of infinite possibilities. The bag on the staff indicates that he has all he needs to do or be anything he wants, he has only to stop and unpack. He is on his way to a brand new beginning. But the card carries a little bark of warning as well. Stop daydreaming and fantasizing and watch your step, lest you fall and end up looking the fool."

Then she looked up at Audrey to make sure that she still had her attention. She pointed at her second card, The Hanged Man, and said "With Neptune (or Water) as its planet, the Hanged Man is perhaps the most fascinating card in the deck. It reflects the story of Odin who offered himself as a sacrifice in order to gain knowledge. Hanging from the world tree, wounded by a spear, given no bread or mead, he hung for nine days. On the last day, he saw on the ground runes that had fallen from the tree, understood their meaning, and, coming down, scooped them up for his own. All knowledge is to be found in these runes."

Then she took a deep breath and plowed on. Merlin, this was a long meaning. "The Hanged Man, in similar fashion, is a card about suspension, not life or death. This is a time of trial or meditation, selflessness, sacrifice, prophecy. The Querent stops resisting; instead he makes himself vulnerable, sacrifices his position or opposition, and in doing so, gains illumination. Answers that eluded him become clear, solutions to problems are found. He sees the world differently, has almost mystical insights. This card can also imply a time when everything just stands still, a time of rest and reflection before moving on. Things will continue on in a moment, but for now, they float, timeless."

SPOILER!!: The Hanged Man

"And your last card, which is for your future, is temperance." She said as she scanned the book for its meaning. Then she read "It is hard, at first, to see where Sagittarius, the ruling sign of this card, fits in. Sagittarius is an expansive sign and Temperance is, on a surface level, about "tempering." Butler points out that the original pouring from cup to cup might have been about cutting wine with water. So this is a card about moderation. There is, however, another angle to the card, that of merging seemingly impossible opposites. Sagittarius, the centaur, merges beast and man into a unique creature. And then there is the bow and arrow, one moving, one stationary, working together to point the way. Temperance may be, at first glance, a warning to the Querent to "temper" their behavior, to cut their wine with water. But it may also be a reminder to the Querent that seemingly irreconcilable opposites may not be irreconcilable at all. Belief that fiery red and watery blue cannot be merged may be the only thing standing in the way of blending the two. Change the belief, measure out each with care, and you can create otherworldly violet."

SPOILER!!: Temperance

When she had finished, she slammed her book shut and stuffed it inside her bag. Then she stood up from her seat and smiled at the girl "Thanks a lot for being my partner."

Then she threw a cursory glance at the board, making sure to remember to ask Freya if she had a copy of the divination homework. Then she walked past the professor and said "Thanks for the class Professor." Then she also glanced at the scary man by the wall and nodded goodbye just to be polite. Normally she would be scared, but she was in too much of in a hurry right now. So she sped off out of the room and ran down the flight of stairs. It would be a long walk to the dorms.

She wasn't about to say that to the students, though. Not when she already felt an uphill climb ahead. She hoped that had answered the question, however.
"And as an appreciation for your understanding I will do everything I can to focus and learn this craft." Damian smiled back, before leaving the class with other students who had done reading.

As her notebook came back to her, Charley grabbed it and her other things and stood up.
"Thank you, Professor," she said with a smile. "I don't believe I had anything else at the moment, so I'll be running along now. Thank you again for the wonderful lesson!"
She looked awkwardly once more at the professor's visitor, then shot a quick wave towards Professor Bishop and walked out the door.

ooc: See, didn't need to make one up I'll do it for the library though, something basic. I'll pm you when I decide. <3 xoxo thanks for the great lesson!

The Ghost

Most of the students had cleared out now, including the one that did not understand how to speak to adults properly. He was a Hufflepuff. That alone, perhaps, said it all?

"Professor Bishop, have you a moment?" Gevrik persisted again. "We could walk and talk in the corridors if you are wanting to lock up your classroom..."

He simply wished to get to know all of the staff better.

As the two girls took their leave, Renée gave them each another smile. At least it seemed some were willing to come to her for help, willing to learn from her. Of course, she had a feeling both of them were new this term, which could be the reason, but Simon had been another matter. She'd hopefully deflected most of his issues with their other guest, and saved him from later problems. She couldn't tell either way, without prying later. Doing a reading or two, which she was half-tempted to do anyway. Not necessarily related to any of the students, but just for her own information. Things were just entirely too, well, cryptic for her comfort level. Or not necessarily cryptic, but she still couldn't get a read on Mr. Gevrik. She wasn't about to abandon her students, though, nor the friends she'd started to make amongst the other professors.

It seemed Mr. Gevrik, though, was the man of the hour, as he stepped forward once again, once Miss Slytherin and Miss Kelley were out of the room. As he spoke, she glanced at the rest of the classroom, though. In fact it was rather empty. "Of course," she replied, turning back to him before busying herself with gathering things from her desk. If in fact her theory was true, she already knew not to keep eye contact with him for long. It was hard not to know that when the same was accurate for herself, but then she imagined he might get into more heads than she ever had. "That sounds perfect," she added, turning again to summon the Tarot decks from the shelves and carefully packing them away in her wooden box for the time being. She had to cast a bit of an Enlarging charm for it to really all fit, with the papers already inside, but after a few short moments she snapped the box shut again and picked it up. "Shall we then?," she said, gesturing with her head toward the door. She could lock the door behind them once they were out.
