| | Divination 1 Once you arrive to the Divination classroom, you enter to find what looks like a standard classroom setup. Desks arranged in the center of the room, facing Professor Bishop's desk and organized into pairs, look toward a charmed blackboard which currently simply says "Divination Lesson 1" in a graceful cursive. A good-sized bookshelf is against the right-hand wall and contains a large amount of small fabric-wrapped shapes.
Professor Bishop is seated at her desk, writing on something, the wooden box from her office moved to the desk in here, but she's still aware of the room. Don't think she isn't, just because she looks occupied with other things.
Feel free to take a seat, talk quietly, get your things ready and class will start shortly. Feel free to post your character entering, speaking to each other or the professor. I'll check in when I can, so don't go overboard, and the lesson will begin tomorrow. |

Audrey looked around. She was lacking a partner and couldn't seem to find one. "I'll just keep looking" Audrey said to herself as she continued to search.

Even as he cut the deck, he sent a conspiratory wink Sabel's way, "The trick to a devastating trail is to leave it far from the place you usually frequent. As far as my ego is concerned..." He turned the card up, "King of Swords. Let me guess; I believe myself to be an expert duelist." Snicker. "Maybe you shouldn't keep your emotion in jars and I wouldn't have such a problem." Chuckling he shook his head, watching Kellen shuffle the cards up again. "And really, I'd take Neptune's emotional swings over Lexi's." Because yes, Neptune could be real tough to handle, but Lexi was near impossible at times. At least for the moment they were sorted, but given their history sorted was a lose and highly variable term.
With a grin, he snatched the card from Kellen. "We'll have to test your dueling theory out sometime, King of Swords. Headmaster Tate wants me to get some dueling partners anyways." Flipping the card around again, he considered the image. "And these aren't always so literal. Don't get your hopes up. It may mean you need to focus your witty tongue...though I suppose that is a form of dueling." Hmmm. "But before that...everything okay between you and Neptune?"

"But jars are so much neater that having them all over sleeves or a table. Plus, if someone opens the wrong one, they can't say they didn't know it was a sore spot because it was labelled as such." On some level it made sense, and that was really all that mattered to Kellen. Then he pulled a face, "Oh, for sure. There was another face pulled, though this one involved a bit of a gag reflex, "You would win, come on now. Maybe if I got to go first and you were blindfolded and... some other handicap in my favour. I'm not as terrible as I was, but..." Yeah, still terrible.
Sabel's last question took him a little off guard, and he didn't know whether to raise an eyebrow or toss off a joke. So naturally, the two reactions cancelled out, and instead he offered a straight, "Yeah, of course. She had a bit of a rough year last year too, but she seems better now. Why do you ask?" |

Maybe Kurumi knew this because she had tried going to the boy's dormitory or maybe Walnut, being a boy, couldn't go to Kurumi's dorm unless it was being carried. "Wait, you make your own tarot cards? Can you do that?" Eino thought the cards had to be charmed or something otherwise they would just be cards and he could play divination with leaves!
"I've never been naughty!" Eino objected rather loudly. Well, there was that one time he ate the neighbor's snow from the ground, but he was really thirsty and he didn't really think it counted as theft, but apparently he was a thief! Maybe this card was enlightening him to recognize his thieving ways and atone for them. He would have to send his neighbot a box of snow the moment he returned home-- No, it wouldn't wait. He would do it promptly, or after class! He would go down to the grounds, fill a box with snow, and mail it to Mr. and Mrs. Hietanen, along with an apology letter. He looked at Kurumi very nervously as he listened to the rest of Judgement's description.
OH MY MERLIN!! Now Eino wasn't going to be able to sleep because he knew he was a thief! He would get nightmares and be tormented forever. The cards were right! All of them! THEY WERE RIGHT! He ejected from his seat and started crying. "I DID IT!" He tossed his arms and fell to his knees. "I stole it. B-b-b-but... I-I-I... I d-didn't..." With tears streaming down his cheeks he sobbed and sobbed, he couldn't get a word out. He wiped his tears but more and more came. Emotional and mental trial? It was right, all of it. Eino calmed down a bit and sat back down, still sobbing, and listened to the rest of his fortune, but he was no longer interested. He was a thief, a snow thief. Okay, Eino's card reading was going to be put on hold...perhaps permanently. " Eino, I am sure you didn't do anything that bad," Kurumi said putting a hand on his shoulder. She could hardly imagine Eino stealing as much as a piece of candy from Honeydukes let alone cause any serious trouble. Unless...Merlin's purple sparkly underpants! He had stolen Faustus from a plant shop! There really was no other explanation for it. That explained his fascination and constant worry about the cactus. Still, it wasn't like he was going to get shipped off to Azkaban for stealing a spikey plant.
Kurumi patted Eino's head, a very Adam thing to do to say the least, and looked back at the cards. Should she flip over the last three? The next cards represented internal influence, and the next card essentially the same, with the final one being the long term outcome. Maybe...maybe just turn over that last one. Doing so in a manner that would not disturb Eino's tears, Kurumi turned over the card in the final spot and looked at it and quickly scanned the description.
Phew. Well, that was a relief!
" Eino, look at this card. The Sun," she said in a soothing sisterly voice. " It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy...A positive card, it promises the Querent their day in the sun. Glory, gain, triumph, pleasure, truth, success....," she said as she picked up the card and handed it to him. " Everything will turn out fine. That's what this card means. Everything will figure itself out." Perhaps it was best that he dropped that cactus from the Owlery...removal of the evidence.

Chuckling, Sabel shook his head and flipped the card between his fingers. "Surely you can't be that terrible. And if you are, well practice makes one better, right? Seriously mate, we should duel. It would be fun." And not with words, because Kellen would definitely win that.
A light shrug rolled off his shoulders. "And I dunno, just the mention of Neptune's emotions and what happened last year. We never talk about what goes on with you and your life, not that we have to because I know you're not comfortable putting yourself out there. But...you do know I'm here to listen, right? I have shoulders too." Really, it concerned him how quiet Kellen was and how little he cared about talking about personal matters. It certainly showed Sabel how much Kellen cared for others, when he was all for listening and being supportive while repressing and keeping silent his own matters. But that was something that had him worrying and feeling rather guilty for putting all his problems out to the other boy.

But I refuse to think that it would be any kind of 'fun'." That was as close to an agreement as Sabel was getting, and he hoped the boy recognized that.
Kellen shrugged a little, the action made somewhat awkward by his crossed arms, "I know. If you didn't then I'd assume Lexi hit you with some kind of anti-bones jinx. There's just nothing I need your shoulders for."
A pointed clearing of the throat was accompanied by a tipping of the chin toward the card, "King of Swords and ego. What's the verdict?" |

A pointed clearing of the throat was accompanied by a tipping of the chin toward the card, "King of Swords and ego. What's the verdict?" Holding up his free hand he waved it a little. "Alright alright. I get it. No duel unless the stars align right." He chuckled a little at Kellen's mention of Lexi and the jinx but didn't comment on Kellen's response. For some reason he thought that perhaps that wasn't the whole truth, but then he was overly critical at times. He decided it wouldn't be harmful to take into account his own Divination reading and ignore the stubborn urge to insist that Kellen talk to him. He wasn't about to push his friend into an uncomfortable topic; if he wanted to talk, he would or he wouldn't. It was his choice.
With a sigh, he stopped flipping the card about and examined it again. "King of Swords...has nothing to do with the ego. In fact it's about collecting ideas into one place, bringing them together and getting the picture. And, once again to be objective in problem solving. You are required to think up new solutions to things to." Placing the card back on the top of the pile he grinned. "Apparently you're going to be an entrepenuer in Justice." Because really, that was needed in this day in age.

This card clearly means I'll be able to interview a person, find out the perfect wand for them, and then custom-make it."
So there. Kellen pushed the deck back to Sabel, "Let's see what your second card has in store for you." |

"Thanks, I did some reading on this subject because I thought I wouldn't do too well at it." Nika nervously took the cards from Emily's hands and fliped over the first one. "So the first card is strength. I guess it means that you have a lot of inner strength and courage. And that makes sense because your in Gryffindor."
Nika was a bit confused, but she picked the second card. Nika ended with a bit of a question. This was a lot harder than she thought.
She paused and took a deep breath before picking up the final card. "Okay so this card is the sun. So it means that you will have your turn to shine and be the center. Basking in the success and glory" Nika took a deep breath. "I don't know how much of that I did correctly so don't take my word for it." Nika giggled and handed the cards to her. "Your turn! Knowing my luck I will probably get the death card or something like that." She said sighing

So there. Kellen pushed the deck back to Sabel, "Let's see what your second card has in store for you." Grinning, Sabel picked up the deck and began shuffling again. "What was that about the Hand of Truth again? Ohh, that's right. Justice isn't always what you wish it to be. It's the natural order of things. That's the problem with reading Divination cards yourself, you see what you want to see and you dismiss what you don't. I doubt I would have read the Hanged Man the same way you did and I bet it wouldn't have been as meaningful for me if I read it..." And no, he did not just admit that. "But you want to be a wand maker? Interesting. You'd be good at it I think." Once again, his friend was being the silent helper. Sometimes, Kellen simply didn't give himself enough credit.
Finishing shuffling he split the deck and once again, drawing out a Four of Pentacles. "Alright, no idea what this means."

Then I'll have to start mixing all my emotions into a potpourri, and shortly after that time and space would fold in on each other and we'd start living things backwards."
Kellen picked up the card and went through his notes, "Four of Pentacles... is saying that you're being stingy about something. You've got something that makes you feel like a richer person, and there's no way you plan on giving it up. You don't want to look to the future, because you might not have it anymore, so instead you focus absolutely on the present."
He raised an eyebrow, a smirk on his face as he regarded Sabel, "Clinging to something with every fibre of your being, seventh year? Or someone?" |

He raised an eyebrow, a smirk on his face as he regarded Sabel, "Clinging to something with every fibre of your being, seventh year? Or someone?" Laughing, Sabel shook his head. "Wouldn't want the world to go backwards. Would ruin all the fun of it going forwards." Shaking his head he leaned back in his chair and folded his arms. "You don't have to worry about me getting sage and having to put your emotions in a blender." Not that he was sure if a potpourri involved a blender, but he figured it was close enough. See? No wiseness.
At first, the card sounded utterly ridiculous. Richness wasn't something he really cared about and he never considered himself stingy. Stubborn yes, but not hoarding. It was the second part and Kellen's following comments that had the smile leaving his lips and taking the card to replace it on the top of the pile almost immediately. "I'm joining the ITF. Having ties to hold you back doesn't exactly work with them." The words came out a bit more bitter and sharp than he wanted him to, but he didn't want a reminder of any of that. Not now.
Piling the deck back he pushed it towards Kellen. "Guess we can do another card."

Doing so in a manner that would not disturb Eino's tears, Kurumi turned over the card in the final spot and looked at it and quickly scanned the description.
Phew. Well, that was a relief!
"Eino, look at this card. The Sun," she said in a soothing sisterly voice. "It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy...A positive card, it promises the Querent their day in the sun. Glory, gain, triumph, pleasure, truth, success....," she said as she picked up the card and handed it to him. "Everything will turn out fine. That's what this card means. Everything will figure itself out." Perhaps it was best that he dropped that cactus from the Owlery...removal of the evidence. "Y-y-y-yo-you think so...?" Eino asked, with a few hiccups in between and a wet face, in response to Kurumi's last remark. That card did seem promising. Hopefully, the Hietanen would forgive him. They were such a sweet couple and were always so nice to Eino, he couldn't imagine them being angry with him for stealing their snow. Maybe the letter and the return of the snow would fix things, otherwise Eino would never be able to forgive himself. Interestingly however, Eino did not like the sun very much. The weather where he lived in Finland was usually cool, and cool was the hottest it ever was, cloudy and usually gloomy. Maybe this card wasn't good after all? Eino was worried, very worried.
Eino wiped away his tears and took the tarot deck, it was his turn to read Kurumi's fortune. He had never taken this seriously, but obviously it was very accurate and he was now worried for Kurumi. His face was red and he was still had a bad case of the hiccups, but he proceeded to shuffle the deck. "Don't worry, I won't pull out bad cards." He told her and he continued to shuffle them and finally setting them down on the table. He pulled the first card and laid it vertically on the table. "It's the Empress." He said showing her the card. Then he turned to his book and flipped through the pages to find it. "It says: 'The Empress card is one of the easier trumps to read. She's Mother. Generally, Mother in a good sense, patient, loving, giving, generous.'" He read and turned to Kurumi. "I think this applies to who you are." Kurumi was very nice and she always baked cookies for everyone so she was very generous, too. "Do you like it? I will throw it away if you don't and I'll take another one."

Not that he was sure if a potpourri involved a blender, but he figured it was close enough.
"Guess we can do another card." Any hint of a grin that was on Kellen's face from the blender comment was removed at his friend's abrupt treatment of the card, and Kellen's analysis in general. While he took the deck and started shuffling it once more, it was a slow and distracted motion. His eyes and attention was more on Sabel by a long shot, "Since when are you joining the ITF? And who exactly told you about ties?" |

It was the only way to try and restrain his emotions and make his voice near deadpan. "I talked to Headmaster Tate about it a few days after the feast and I'm applying; he's going to put in a word for me. There's a lot of travel involved so being tied to anything is pointless." Being tied anymore than friendship.
Shrugging his shoulders he glanced back at Kellen, wondering why it was taking so long to shuffle. "What's your card?"

The speed of Kellen's shuffling went back to its normal speed, but the look on his face wasn't exactly clear of serious thought. In one motion, he plucked a card from the deck and commented, "Right, I might just pop over to the Headmaster's office some time for a talk. You know, doing the Head Boy thing. Nine of Wands." |

Sabel frowned at his friend for a good moment before taking the card. He had no idea if there was some implication involved in what he was saying, or if it was somehow related to what he had just said about the ITF. But assumptions had been getting him in trouble a lot lately, so he shoved the suspicion to the back of his mind and took the card. "I'm sure he'd be happy to see you."
Glancing into his notes he flipped a few pages before making a slight noise of interest. "It's a staircase card, meaning that you're questioning if you'll ever reach where you want to go, but you are standing right on top of it. It talks about leadership and success in a career, but can probably be set in relation to any aspect of your life. Everything you've been working towards is ready for you to take, you just need to take the last few steps."
Turning the card once, he considered it before handing it back to Kellen. "A good card. Sounds like your life is in good order." A small smile finally touched his lips. "You're already Head Boy. Who would have thought? You sure you aren't looking to become Headmaster or Ministry member?" Because really, Kellen could pull it off, out of everyone he knew.

"Yes, Miss Hollingberry, the significator can represent an idea of the present, what is being looked for," she replied, before glancing at Evelyn. "And it could very easily be considered the prologue to the story. But it could also be explained as the entire story. In fact, as so many of you have said," in one way or another, " the significator represents the person asking the question. It could also represent the question itself, although several of the other cards address that as well, in the Celtic cross spread at least. And I'm specifying that it represents the one asking the question, because in many cases when you are doing a reading, you might be doing it for someone other than yourself. And in that case, the significator, when used, would represent the person you're helping," she continued, before glancing at the few who had addressed how the significator was chosen. That was another story altogether, really, but she ran her fingers along the deck she'd placed on her desk again before addressing the class again. "Significators can be chosen in a few ways. You could simply choose a card you feel represents yourself, given its meanings and such, which commonly involves the Magician or High Priestess, or any of the court cards. You could let the deck choose, by shuffling and seeing what card ends up on the top of the deck. That often gives more insight as to what question is being asked. Or, in the case of doing a reading for someone else, you could let them go through the cards and pick one, which can also elaborate on the other cards representing personal ideas of self. Of course, none of these are relevant, exactly, if you're doing a reading and choose not to use a significator, but it's always interesting to find out." She smiled. In a way, that was what Treyen had been attempting, in his own angry way, to do to herself. It was just too bad that wasn't how it worked.
But then she looked out at the class again with a grin. "How many of you think you would be able to do a reading now? Of course, given a way to interpret the cards you end up with." She wasn't about to expect them all to go in blindly, or even do perfect readings the first time around. But she imagined they could have some fun with it. "There should be enough sets of cards on the shelves for everyone, although I'd recommend pairing up. That way you could maybe learn some things about your classmates," she added. Besides, while she could cast a duplicating charm on the cards to create more sets, that could lessen the inherent magic in the decks. "Feel free to use any spread you'd like, as well, although I'd recommend either the one we discussed in class, or a simple one like the three-card spread. And keep in mind, I'll still be here to answer questions, so don't be afraid." Although she was thinking about doing a reading of her own, still curious about those she knew were in the room without revealing themselves. The students came first. ooc: As explained, you guys feel free to RP doing readings for yourselves or for a partner. Use the link for card meanings, or your own if you'd rather. Obviously, decide what cards appear on your own (unless you literally have a deck in front of you, which would be kind of awesome but unexpected.) and have fun with this. I'll be around occasionally to check on things, answer questions when I can, and Professor Bishop is always technically there watching you. Quote:

Kellen shrugged, "Maybe. The last time I went to his office was during that set-on-fire fiasco, and it was to bring him his update on Flyfishing Annual. He almost hit me over the head with it for setting it up to be a travesty his selection was so old."
He listened to Sabel's interpretation of the card, though really his interest was no longer solely in it. The planning part of his brain was trying to work out how to politely remind the Headmaster that telling Sabel not to have any emotional ties would be rather like telling a penguin to stop being so devoted to the ground and just fly already. Actually, that was a pretty good one. He put a mental check-mark next to it.
"My life is in good order?" Kellen propped a hand on his chin, considering this supposed piece of news, "If this is as organized as it gets, I'm in trouble. And no, no being Headmaster for me. Tate has the patience to deal with a lot of things, more patience than I do. I'd rather keep myself to myself and only interact with who I want." |

"Alright." Cass said with a smile. She set the cards on the desk in front of them and she asked "How are we supposed to start?"
"Well i believe we should decide on a format to lay the cards out in. The twelve card layout or the eight card layout or anything else." she said "Then we shuffle the cards and draw them and set them in the layout then read the meanings."

When she was ready Selina lifted the first card over to Violet, it was The Tower. Selina was taken aback by this card. If what the Professor had explained was correct it meant that something was going to shake up her life. Literally a war, but sometimes a fight or a shocking revelation.
"Vi... it's the Tower."

The smile returned a little stronger as Sabel refolded his arms. "And that's an interesting perception. Didn't know that you could interact solely who you wanted to interact with when you're a wand-maker. I thought the point was to interact with everyone that entered your shop, no matter your likes or dislikes of them." Reaching forward, he tapped the card with his index finger. "And it means 'good-order' in that what you want is waiting for you to take that last step."
