So to give himself time and a chance to think of something, the boy quickly but correctly copied down the Celtic Cross Diagram, labelling the cards as he went.

But that only took so long, so he thought it best just to give it ago, "Professor does The Significator, represent the person that the spread is about?" It was a stretch, but he thought he had read something, "The reader, has the person the spread is about, the querent select a card they find to relfect them."

Yes? No?

Luin quickly jotted down some notes, copying down everything that was put on the board, and then thought of the teacher's next question. She wasn't completely sure about the answer this time, and raised her hand slowly, "The Significator helps direct the energies toward the reading’s goal by signifying the purpose of the reading, it represents the seeker, or his/her situation."

Concentrate! Melanie had to concentrate! Snapping out of some sort of a daze as the professor asked a question about one of the cards, she rubbed her forehead. Okay... significator... card number one... significance?

Umm. Honestly, the girl had no idea. She raised her hand anyway, though. Yay, for random stabs in the dark? "The significator card holds significance, because it indicates the significance of the other cards." Significance + indicator = significator! Yeah?

Realising this was a question about which she had some idea, Charley quickly thrust her hand above her head.
"Professor, I thought that the Significator was a card removed from the deck before it's shuffled, chosen to represent the, the person consulting the cards. The Tarot reading is based on it...." she said insecurely, worrying that her thought was extensively precarious.

Raven is again didn't understand the lesson, he listen, most of the session, he see the diagram that the professor shows, but really don't understand the meaning of significator, he loves to gamble, he tries to participate in this lesson, he didn't want to loose, that easy. He raise his hand before saying.
"err, from the word itself, it's mean an indicator of something significant in a future or past condition", Raven gave a weakly smile

"The Significator tells the character of the person receiving the tarot reading." That was truly about all she knew of the card, whether this small fact was something that made the card significant, she didn't know.

Nika thought that she wouldn't like divination at all, but she has grown fond of the subject already. Nika quickly raised her hand and said "Well the significator is a card that sort of represents the person they are reading for." At this point Nika was very happy that she decided to read some books about her classes before she went to them.

Eyes wide in slight horror, Sierra just stared at the professor with the blankest expression she could give. She had no idea what a Celtic cross spread or the significator was. She'd never even heard of anything like that before.

Were they meant to be using their books during this question and answer session?!

"Me, too," Sierra thought to herself, agreeing with a boy who'd said he was rubbish in Divination. She sank down in her seat, a scowl on her face, and listened to others around her supply answer after answer.

Sierra had been in a few classes with this girl before, and she was sure the kid ate dictionaries in her free time. How else would she know every single answer to every single question each of their professors asked?!

Sierra sighed and made a mental note to try and be more like this Kurumi girl.

As Emmaleigh listened to the professor, she scribbled notes down on her parchment. It seemed that she hadn't been too off the mark with her answer. But hearing the next question, she frowned, and tried to think of the answer. Raising her hand, she asked, "Isn't it Like its the character of the person receving the reading, or some underlying issue related to the question being asked?"

No, he didn't need to check the meanings of the cards again, he was absolutely sure of what he meant. And...as far as the interpretation part...well, Treyen smirked. He hadn't done so, he knew what Jake meant, it was only fun to get it back on him.



He resisted the urge to stick his tongue out at Jake, haha, because, well, it was completely immature to do something like that.

But then he frowned when she mentioned the second thing of the Emperor. Bishop was not precisely being that nice either. 'Some things are not worth controlling', well, she was smart.



Riiiiiiiight. Treyen didn't believe one bit of what Jake said referring to the card-making thing. But it was time to focus on the lesson, no?

And that's what he decided to do, entirely ignoring Jake's answer to the question. He will ignore Jake. Or try to do so, unless provoked.

But now they were talking about the Significator and he nodded at the others' replies, he wasn't saying anything that was said already so he just leaned back on his seat and eyed Bishop.

Lucy got more and into the class as it turned into something more interesting. She was really enjoying the class, as Professor explained more about the cards she had another question. Lucy knew the answer to this one and raised her hand saying "Professor, some believe that the significator helps to direct the energies toward the reading's goal by signifying the purpose of the reading. The significator card simply represents the seeker, or his situation." She said and out her hand down waiting for what professor had to say.

Freya took out her notes and copying down what Professor Bishop wrote on the board. The Significator? She raised her hand before saying "The Significator card is a card that is drawn to represent the querent or the person we are reading for in the tarot reading like what you are and what is important for you to know about yourself right now."

"Professor..." Tyrone began wearily "Wouldn't it be something like the representastion of the person wanting to find their future? I've heard that the old ways allowed the card to be chosen before the shuffle. Right?" He was unsure. None of his books had said much about the significance of the positioning of the cards. Well, not from the books he had gotten.

Renée sent Simon a sympathetic look as he seemed to get more worried as the lesson went on. She hadn't wanted him to misinterpret anything, of course, so now she felt the need to try and reassure him. "You needn't apologize for trying, and I know you aren't doing it intentionally," she replied, before stepping back a bit as he spoke again. Not far, as she had the desk behind her, and it was more metaphorically, but she wasn't about to try to make him feel better when he seemed already decided. "You're not. It just might take a bit longer, maybe some more reading," she added, before giving him a little nod. "That's not completely off. It can certainly be the most important, depending on how you look at things." Perhaps she'd need to talk to him a bit after the lesson, and, as she glanced around the room, she wondered if Miss Greingoth should be included as well.

Renée looked over at one of the Gryffindors who had also seemed to possibly be struggling a little, as he raised his hand, and she nodded a little as he spoke. "Not exactly something from the past or future, Mr. Perevell, but yes, it can be significant," she responded gently with a smile. Once it got explained, the significance would likely be understood. But even with that, she thought, the significator wasn't integral. It certainly came in useful, but the very fact not every spread included it told the story that it wasn't necessary. Just another of the little details that came in useful during readings, same as every other bit of information the cards could give.



It seemed Renée was getting many different variations on the answer she was looking for, but at least the students seemed to be getting the basic idea down. "Yes, Miss Hollingberry, the significator can represent an idea of the present, what is being looked for," she replied, before glancing at Evelyn. "And it could very easily be considered the prologue to the story. But it could also be explained as the entire story.In fact, as so many of you have said," in one way or another, " the significator represents the person asking the question. It could also represent the question itself, although several of the other cards address that as well, in the Celtic cross spread at least. And I'm specifying that it represents the one asking the question, because in many cases when you are doing a reading, you might be doing it for someone other than yourself. And in that case, the significator, when used, would represent the person you're helping," she continued, before glancing at the few who had addressed how the significator was chosen. That was another story altogether, really, but she ran her fingers along the deck she'd placed on her desk again before addressing the class again. "Significators can be chosen in a few ways. You could simply choose a card you feel represents yourself, given its meanings and such, which commonly involves the Magician or High Priestess, or any of the court cards. You could let the deck choose, by shuffling and seeing what card ends up on the top of the deck. That often gives more insight as to what question is being asked. Or, in the case of doing a reading for someone else, you could let them go through the cards and pick one, which can also elaborate on the other cards representing personal ideas of self. Of course, none of these are relevant, exactly, if you're doing a reading and choose not to use a significator, but it's always interesting to find out." She smiled. In a way, that was what Treyen had been attempting, in his own angry way, to do to herself. It was just too bad that wasn't how it worked.

But then she looked out at the class again with a grin. "How many of you think you would be able to do a reading now? Of course, given a way to interpret the cards you end up with." She wasn't about to expect them all to go in blindly, or even do perfect readings the first time around. But she imagined they could have some fun with it. "There should be enough sets of cards on the shelves for everyone, although I'd recommend pairing up. That way you could maybe learn some things about your classmates," she added. Besides, while she could cast a duplicating charm on the cards to create more sets, that could lessen the inherent magic in the decks. "Feel free to use any spread you'd like, as well, although I'd recommend either the one we discussed in class, or a simple one like the three-card spread. And keep in mind, I'll still be here to answer questions, so don't be afraid." Although she was thinking about doing a reading of her own, still curious about those she knew were in the room without revealing themselves. The students came first.

Obviously, decide what cards appear on your own (unless you literally have a deck in front of you, which would be kind of awesome but unexpected.) and have fun with this. Raven eager not to behind very long to other student, he walk to the selves and took a set of card, look like it's the major arcana. he walk back to his chair.

what will he do, he choose to reading in his self for the moment. Raven readied the card, first he need to shuffle it, at least two time or three, then cut it in the nearly middle.

Raven followed the diagram in the board, professor Bishop provided earlier, he stared to the card. but how he read it again, he need helps "err, professor, how do we read it, can we just follow that numbered diagram or something" Raven ask, politely, innocent effect will help him to lessen the burden in his face

"Doesnt the significator represent the seeker,Professor?",Fee more asked then said rasing her hand.She wasnt so sure about that but the blonde had heard and read about that.Some cards had more than one meaning so it could be right,huh?!If not it hopefully wouldnt be too bad, no way she wanted to upset the professor.But that was they were here for, to learn stuff about divination and how it works.

Emily sighed... the practical part. This was were is was bound to go pear-shaped for her. None the less she collected a deck of cards from the shelf and returned to her seat where she turned to look at her friend Claire.
"Ready for me to tell your future?" she asked in a not-so-enthusiastic voice.

Selina got up from the small three person round table and went over and grabbed a pair of cards. She sat down back and her table and looked up at Elektra and Violet. Pulling out the cards she set them on the table and asked, "Okay who wants to go first?"

Emily nudged Nika "good answer!" she whispered encouragingly to her.

After the teacher spoke Emily got up and got a pack of cards.
"Do you want to go first? I can tell your enjoying this more than me" she let a small smile appear on her face and held out the cards for Nika.

She turned to Rex, placed the cards on the table in the middle. She was bit nervous to pull up the first card. What if it was the death card.

Elle was taken aback by the Professor's question. The "Significator"? What was that? How come she never came across that word of chapter before?

Recalling a reckless moment, she enjoyed the view of the Lake with a friend instead of doing an advance reading on her Divination textbook. One can never laze around, she thought in her head. She must have accidentally missed the Celtic Cross Decks part and skipped on to the next chapters. What a clumsy girl!

But, oh well. She looked around the classroom, seeing countless students raise their hands in response. GREAT. She was not reciting at all. Elle was usually advanced in class when it came to lessons and readings. But this time, she just listened attentively on the discussion and wrote a plentiful of notes. The First Year felt pathetic and embarrassed with a feeling of failure.

"Celtic cross spread has one card that isn’t included in most other spreads, but can sometimes be considered one of the more important ones in a reading. That would be card number one, or the significator." She wrote down.

Hearing that they had to pair up and examine the cards and their uses, she looked around, hoping to find someone she knew. Failing to see a familiar face, she walked over to the shelf and grabbed a deck. Heading back, she took another look around. If ever she would be able to have a "buddy" to study with, they would both have to read and understand everything in the book and use their knowledge and findings with the cards they had.

Simon looked around to see if anyone wanted to have the worst reading they would probably have in their lives, he was scared that even if he did just his own he would make a mess of it. "Professor what if we get it wrong?" He asked, he was sure that he could mess this up, maybe after the lesson he could ask her what book she would recommend.

Isobel looked around for someone to be her partneer. She saw a girl who looked like she didn't have one yet. Isobel walked over to her. "Want to be my partner?"

Satine jumped up and got a deck of cards and then sat back down in her desk. She made a mental note to send an owl to her mother requesting her own set of cards for Divination. She had forgotten how much she enjoyed this class.

Satine took a breath and then laid down three cards. She glanced at her notes and then at each card and then she flipped the first one over:

The Moon.

She checked her notes again, "you're in for an emotional and mental rollercoaster...." yes already there...these boys mixed with school could cause that any day....sad that it wasn't just one boy in particular but just the boy species in general...

She flipped the second card:

Queen of Cups.

Satine laughed to herself at the Queen of Cups...that would be a horrible thing to be the queen of....well maybe unless they were silver, gold, and diamond cups...and it would be easy to rule over cups since they don't really move or talk or question you or fight or anything...but it sounded like a mighty boring kingdom to live in....she shook her head and focused back.

Her notes said that the Queen of Cups meant, "Developing a romance, psychic powers, or the growth of a family. " She glanced at those and didn't have a clue which it would be and looked back at the first card...all signs pointed to the developing of a romance...that sounded promising until you added that emotional and mental rollercoaster in it. She read further into the definition and yep that had to be what it meant...the words hormonal, dreamy, mysterious...yes that about explained it. Her fave part was that you shouldn't unlock the temper of the Queen of Cups or have it turned against you...that was good warning about Satine. She hardly got mad but when she did you better duck because hawks were going to flying at your head....literally.

She focused again and flipped the third card over:

The Chariot.

Her notes explained it all:
solo warrior, yep that was her since she had friends but tended to just roam from group to group when she wanted to or stayed to herself at other times... check; it moves around alot, yep thanks to her ADD that was her...check; loyalty and faith....well she was loyal; and then victory over all. She was clueless at what this one was telling her...She squished up her face and stared at the card like it was going to start talking to her...wow that would be amazing.

She raised her hand, "Professor, I have two questions, #1 I don't understand my last card and #2 how come no one has created magical tarot cards that when you flip them over they move and tell you the reading you know like our moving pictures?" she hoped neither of these questions was stupid but she asked anyway still staring at that dang third card.
