Once you arrive to the Divination classroom, you enter to find what looks like a standard classroom setup. Desks arranged in the center of the room, facing Professor Bishop's desk and organized into pairs, look toward a charmed blackboard which currently simply says "Divination Lesson 1" in a graceful cursive. A good-sized bookshelf is against the right-hand wall and contains a large amount of small fabric-wrapped shapes.
Professor Bishop is seated at her desk, writing on something, the wooden box from her office moved to the desk in here, but she's still aware of the room. Don't think she isn't, just because she looks occupied with other things.
Feel free to take a seat, talk quietly, get your things ready and class will start shortly.
Feel free to post your character entering, speaking to each other or the professor. I'll check in when I can, so don't go overboard, and the lesson will begin tomorrow.
Jamie raised her hand,"There is The Moon card. It's card number eighteen and it has the meanings of dreams and psychic impressions when upright but the reverse is deception."it was one of her favorite cards...if you could have a favorite.

"The Hermit," Sierra suggested, her hand raised high in the air.
She didn't think anyone had said that one yet. She hoped not, at least. She also didn't really know what 'The Hermit' meant when it came to Divination and tarot cards, but she'd at least heard of a hermit crab before. Sooo not the same thing, or anywhere close to being the same thing, but at least it'd helped her remember one of the cards' names.
Lowering her hand, she returned to absentmindedly twirling a lock of her hair with her fingers while she waited for the lesson to continue.
Pandora raised her hand. "There is 'The Tower' card, professor. It is the sixteenth trump card in a deck. It always comes after 'The Devil' card, and is considered a bad omen. When it is right side up, it can be interpreted as failure, ego, and false pretenses."

Tarot cards. Hehehehe. Josh knew most of them. So he moved a little and raised his hand to mention one Major Arcana card ''Professor...'' the Gryffindor said kindly, a little smile appearing on his face ''...there's also The Sun!'' then he looked at Evelyn to see what she was doing. Oh, if only the professor told them to perform a tarot card reading. Josh would intently perform a reading for Evelyn.

Violet heard all of the answers everyone was saying. She even heard Selina and Elektra's answers. Violet then eagerly raised her hand saying cheerfully,"Professor, there is also the Star!" Violet smiled brightly feeling proud of herself.
Bennet tried to suggest a card that hadn't already been mentioned, "Temperance? Isn't that one?" Bennet hoped he hadn't made that up. He flipped to the index of his Divination text looking for explanation of the Major Arcana to confirm his answer.
Honestly, Selena was lost when it came to tarots. She only found the cards pretty and she couldn't even remember the names of half of them. Still, she struggled to remember one of the few she could. "I think the moon is one of them..?" Selena said uncertainly after raising her hand. She couldn't quite remember.

"We'll discuss that in a moment." First things first, and she hoped there wouldn't be any more interruptions.
Of course, that hope seemed unfounded, as she watched a girl choose now to enter the lesson. Inwardly sighing, she smiled briefly at the Gryffindor. Seriously? How would he know. Legend yawned then raised his hand. "The...erm....Pig. Yeah it symbolized....being a pig? Or like...the he Hanged Man. Yeah i'll go with that." Yeah, like there would really be a card for that. Could he go to sleep now?

ooh.. Tarot Cards. uhmm i know one..Edlyn raised her hand quickly.
"Professor, the Sword? it is associated by mind and truth . It represents our mind and al the inherent in them.
This also includes our rational thought, our ability to learn and remember, our consciousness and awareness and our perceptions. The suit points to our abilities to consider, to contrast and compare, to weigh the evidence, and to make a decision. It signifies our insights and awareness, our ability to inquire, analyze, synthesize and investigate. It also represents legal arrangements: contracts, leases, agreements, purchase documents and the like. Likewise, it can symbolize the legal, political and judicial systems - the courts, the laws at every level and the governance dominanting one's environment. " Edlyn finished her answer half breathing. She's not sure if it's correct but she tried it anyway.

Emily raised her hand. She had only had a browse through a deck of those cards the other night. "Professor there is a strength card." she said.
Raven raised his hand, he need to participate in class. "err, professor, there is Star in tarot card" Raven say more on question than an answer, he didn't remember if anyone say it
Hm. Cards. Well... "The High Priestess... my apologies if that one has already been mentioned," Cedric answered upon raising his hand. He repressed a yawn as he leaned back on his chair. Would they be performing tarot cards readings soon? Hopefully so!
"You'll notice a few of the forms that were mentioned aren't up here as of yet, but there's a reason," she added then, with a brief glance at Mr Lockhart as he seemed to get into a bit of an issue with Jake. She'd keep her eye on those two, along with the spot by the wall where she still knew she was being watched. It made things interesting, really. "And I'd imagine Professor Truebridge could shed a bit more light on the subject of Runic divination, so we'll let that one stay to the side for now." She could answer questions as well, but the lesson needed to keep moving.[/COLOR]
Completing their divination list, as established by the students, Renée turned back to the students who'd spoke about tarot cards with another smile. "It seems you might be a bit hopeful about that subject," she said to the two who had mentioned them by name, before turning back to the class as a whole. "Cartomancy, or its similar cousin Taromancy, is quite the delicate study. As was mentioned, it can most commonly be considered reading cards, Taromancy being more specific to the Tarot while basic cartomancy can use any form of cards. Actually, most common is a basic deck of Muggle playing cards. And there's another offshoot that simply uses what are known as oracle decks, which is a bit more, well specific than either divination with playing cards or Tarot cards," she said, moving slightly toward the bookshelf as she spoke. If anyone was curious, she could explain their uses as well, but at a later time.
"For now, let's stick with the basics, though," she continued. "Maybe with the Tarot." And her discussion was turning a bit more casual, it seemed. "Does anyone want to offer a fact or two about the Tarot? Anything about the specific cards in the deck, or whatever else you can think of." Then maybe they could look into the correlation between that deck and the others. It would depend on what she got right now.
ooc: As usual, try to stick with only one fact, etc. per post. Let others get a word in. Try not to get too into chats as well and things will continue later. With more fun.
While Professor Bishop and the other students continued with the discussion, Charley wrote down all of the forms on the extended list, checking before each one to ensure she spelled them all correctly. Divination was definitely not one of her better subjects. She planned to study each form later, and to transcribe their definitions and uses. There is always a way to be better. If I take good notes and pay close to attention-to Professor Bishop, anyway-I know I can do well in this class. Good for you. I gave up on Divination and Ancient Runes after first year because I didn't do well. Too confusing for me, Henry interjected, proving he was always able to find when to pop into her thoughts. I can't imagine why, Charley responded sarcastically. Now can you quit interrupting during classes? I actually need to learn all of this stuff, Henry. Yeah, yeah. I'll try to reach you another time. Write the times you should be free in your next letter, okay? Well, I don't exactly know when that really is; I've been here a week. But I'll put my schedule down, so you have some idea. Okay, okay. Take good notes, kid! I know you can do well. Love you, Charley. Thanks, I love you too, Henry, she responded, and found herself nearly drained of energy. She'd forgotten how hard it was to censor her thoughts so much. She had to, of course, with her brother seeing in. She wondered if Professor Bishop knew anything about thought projection. Maybe I'll ask after class, she decided, knowing it was definitely not a good idea to ask during class. Time to learn more about tarot cards.
She began to jot down the names of all the cards she heard her classmates mentioning.

Kurumi raised her hand again. "Professor, I believe there is Judgement. It's number 20 in the deck. I've read that its design and form is based on the Christian belief of the Last Judgement." Kurumi paused for a moment to gather her thoughts. "I believe that it represents pending judgments or undecided decisions. Since it also could represent ressurection, it may also be interpretated as the return of someone or something from your past."

Eino raised his hand, feeling very eager to participate, "There is also The Empress, which I believe is associated with fertility, maternity, and beauty." He shared and quickly returned to his quill and parchment to take very detailed and specific notes on the various answers shared by his classmates and the Professor's responses and elaborations. He was hoping the professor would hand out tarot cars and teach them how to read them, now that would be fun!
"Professor there is the Lovers card, which is number 6...I think.." Ronnie added. She couldn't believe how brave she was being talking up in class. Usually she didn't talk becuase then people would look at her...and umm..when alot of people looked at her she usually had one of her episodes...that was never good.
She was scared she was going to have one everytime she went to a class. She didn't want to make a secne, plus then she would miss the lesson. She pulled a note out of her pocket...scared knowing she was going to have to give it to the professor after class.
Sabel had been listening quietly, tapping his quill off his paper as he listened. When it came to asking about the Major Arcane, most of them were already listed. "There's cared 7, the Chariot, otherwise known as the Child of the Powers of the Waters and the Lord of the Triumph of Light." Rather epic names. "Perhaps having to do with light and water, in the form of overcoming adversaries or challenges and moving forward, as water moves past it's barriers and light comes from the hope of success." Seemed rather fitting for some circumstances, especially those graduating this year. Though the light in that case was debatable and not something he wanted to think about at the moment.

Zoning out.... thats like meditating right? Whichever is the case, thats the only thing the Slytherin lad was doing since he laid eyes on the Divinations Professor. The discussion seemed to him like birds chirping and bees buzzing-- he could hear them not necessarily understand them
After all he is Slytherin, shouldnt he be more partial to Parseltongue?
Ah but the lovely brunette in front of the class started to speak about the Major Arcana and Salander suddenly remembered the homework from last term, "Uh there's the Elephant...." then paused. No that wasnt it, there were no large grey mammals in there "Uhm I mean, there's something called the Pope?"

Freya listened carefully as Professor Bishop explaining to them about the History of Tarot and the deck. Then the Professor mentioned about major arcana, she remembered some of them it's kinda hard to forget if your mother kept talking about it every time. She raised her hand before answering the question "There's the Lover, Professor." she paused for a moment "is the sixth trump of the Major Arcana card and it represents relationships and choices" she added.

Renée gave the class another smile as at least half of them had shot thier hands up and offered the names of cards in the Major Arcana. Instinctively, she knew it was probably due to them having learned them before, at least in the case of the older students. But then, that was part of why she'd decided to teach it in the first lesson. The Tarot was one of the easier forms of Divination to grasp, and possibly one of the least frustrating. At least, less frustrating when one wasn't dealing with what seemed to be a mini-insurrection and invisible onlookers. Either way, she wasn't going to falter. "Good job," she replied to those who had answered, ading each one to the list that had already been started. "It seems you all remember quite a bit, and an extra point to those who decided to go into a bit of detail," she added. Not to make those who hadn't feel bad, but just to give a bit of a reward to those who had felt the need.

"Professor there are famous witches and wizard card you get them from chocolate frogs." Simon was hoping he was right, he was confident that he had got it wrong. "There cards right and since Tarots are cards maybe they are part of the same thing."
Renée gave another little special smile to the little Huffie who had been so amusing, as he had tried his hardest to continue to answer. It almost reminded her of Jared's insistence he was horrible at the subject, really. "Unfortunately, no. Chocolate Frog cards aren't actually part of the Tarot. But maybe you could try and set up your own oracular cards using them. There is a theory that any cards can be used for some form of Divination," she replied to him gently. It would certainly be an interesting project. It was something to think about, maybe later in the term.

Then Renée smiled at the other two who had tried to answer, but been just the slightest bit off. "That was definitely a good guess, Miss Draven, but surprisingly no. The Angel is not part of the Tarot, or at least the traditional Tarot. There might be some variations which might depcit something similar however," she replied to the young Slytherin, before glancing at Mr. Chosen with a bit of a grin. "I'd be interested to know what version of the Tarot would use regular animals, Mr. Chosen, but a point for trying to come up with a meaning. And yes, the Hanged Man is one of the Major Arcana. Representing sacrifice and looking at things from a different perspective." Something she wondered if the boy related to a tiny bit, when he wasn't trying to sleep through class.

And the Slytherin boy from the beginning of class seemed to have snapped out of his stupor, for which Renée had another thought about Jared and all his fans. At least he had an attempt at an answer, so she sent him a smile. "I believe you're thinking about the Hierophant, Mr. Salander, which was already mentioned," she replied. "As Mr. Hudson also said, it in fact has also been known as the Pope. Appropriate for a card that commonly represents education, religious beliefs, power and discipline." To introduce a few of the basic tenets. As with all of the cards and their symbolism, the interpretation was often more important than the surface meanings.

Renée then turned her attention to two of the young girls in the class, who had tried to come up with answers. She appreciated the attempts, as she had everyone else, and for that she gave them yet another smile. "The Page and sword are indeed part of the Tarot, but actually they're included in the Minor Arcana. Swords are one of the four suits, and the Page is one of the four court cards. They do have meanings, however, as every card in the Tarot does." Well, there were four pages in a deck, but the concept still stood. And in fact Miss Molina had included that in her explanation, noting that it was a suit. She'd just been a bit late in her answer.

Couldn't argue with the truth.
"There should be a card for 'arrogant little brat', Professor. Don't you agree?" Jake stated, raising his hand again.
Totally innocent suggestion.

"Unfortunately, no, not reversed." And he didn't miss the last thing Jake said either. Perhaps he ought to try out for Beater and aim a Bludger at his head. Take out the Seeker, no?
The boy was raising his hand, like for the eleventh time since class started, or since the discussion started and shook his head, "I think it quite egoistic of Mr. Morgan to be thinking of having his own card made."
But then he added more, "There is also 'The Emperor', which I personally find interesting for its nature of controlling the uncontrollable." Which in this case, will be Bishop. She won't gain control over the things she couldn't, right?

Poor little Lockhart. So naiive and, quite frankly- wait, what?
That little...
He had just BETTER wait for tryouts. Jake would knock him off his broom.
And incorporate sand into that somehow.
"You misinterpreted me," he said simply, and sat back in his chair. HE wouldn't say another one. He'd already given the professor two. He'd give others a chance.
For now, he'd silently scrunch up a page of parchment. He'd get the boy on his way out if anything.
And then she had the fun of dealing with Jake and Treyen, yet again. Or, actually, simply continuing their earlier battle. Renée had the feeling Treyen was simply trying to get on her case yet again, especially with the answer he'd given to contribute to the discussion, but she wasn't about to let it get to her. Not right now, and not when she'd hoped he had come to the conclusion it was better to simply go along with things than fight them. Of course, she wasn't about to let his war of words with Jake continue much longer either, as it could get distracting to the others if it kept going. "Jake, the Tarot is not intended to be used as a way of insulting people," she said calmly, for the moment ignoring Treyen's comment about the arrogance of making new cards even though it had been addressed to her. People created their own forms of oracular cards all the time, so the egotism wasn't really the point. However, she did raise an eyebrow slightly at his following response. That was the strike she'd been waiting for. "Yes. The Emperor is part of the Major Arcana. And in fact one interpretation of it can be the attempt to control the uncontrollable, or the need to accept that some things are not worth controlling. It also represents the masculine principle, balanced against the feminine principle represented by the Empress, as well as stability," she responded, before finally continuing her path toward the bookshelf an picking up one of the wrapped items that had been lying there, flicking her wand to finish off the list that had begun.

Turning back to the class, package in hand, she took a breath before heading back to her desk. "Now that we've gotten that established, why don't we get into a bit about the spreads, as Mr. Owlwraith brought up earlier. He mentioned a few of them, but perhaps we could go into a bit more about the differences between them. The most common spread happens to be the Celtic Cross. Who wants to tell the class why that is?" A bit more discussion, and then maybe it would be time to start the practical portion of the lesson.

Nika smiled all that reading did pay off. She was finally able to earn some points for her house. She quickly took her quill and some spare parchment out of her bag and started to scribble down the different Major Arcana tarot cards. Nika looked around hoping that someone else would answer Professor Bishop's question, for she did not know the answer.

Heather wanted to take a guess so bad. She had a guess. Oh well she would try anyway. She raised her hand. "Many people in different cultures consider a cross to be some sort of sacrifice or belief. Does it stand for inspiration or protection, possibly death?" She asked.
