| | Defense Training Room
Because the Headmaster has no use for a second office, he has re-purposed this room for an entirely different use. The room is larger than it should be; the fact that Tate reduced a wall into an adjoining room is obvious by the fact that his ‘office’ has two doors along the same long wall. Rather than leaving an empty office or reinventing the standard dueling area, the room now serves as a training facility for those with an interest in Defense and Defense related careers: Aurors, Hit Wizards, and the International Task Force (among others).
The two windows in the room face out over an inner courtyard and let in tree-filtered light throughout the day. Beside one such window, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves have been stuffed full of countless Defense texts. The titles range from ancient tomes in spidery indecipherable scripts to glossy hardcovers featuring some of the premiere Defensive authors of the day. The long table is conducive for transcribing notes from the various books, but there are also a few deep chairs pushed together for general reading or quiet conversation. There is a sign posted on the bookshelf. Quote:

Along the opposite wall, leading from the far door halfway to the window, Tate has set up various pieces of exercise equipment, intending for those interested in pursuing a Defensive career to develop themselves physically as well as mentally. A punching bag is suspended from the ceiling in the corner, sitting beside a stand of free weights and other odds and ends, mats and exercise balls and the like. Stretching along the remainder of the space to the window is an enormous climbing wall, complete with hand and foot holds all the way up to the ceiling. There are no ropes, but the floor is generously cushioned with a charm.
Between the two windows sit a series of padded dummies, perfect for any dueling practice needed for class or just to be used in the process of learning new spells. Drag one or two out and practice. Either of the windows onto the courtyard may be opened and, weather permitting, training can extend into this open space. Try not to kill and trees or squirrels in the process. Quote:

He didn't want to speculate on the newspaper thing and was immediately sorry he'd brought it up. "They discover new things all the time. Anyway. Maybe you should save antlers for the really deserving?" Law Enforcement?
Jim thought about it, expression clearly surprised. He didn't quite have a criminal record. Not quite. But he did wonder if the shops he'd been banned from happened to pass that information on or not.
"How is Law Enforcement about the journey? Isn't the point to catch a criminal, not so much to chase one?" Headmaster, we don't GET you.
"If I was gonna do something to do with dueling stuff sir, I'd probably wanna be a show dueler."
Otherwise a journalist. No foolin'.
Or a herbologist.
He frowned a bit, having not really thought too much about 'future' stuff until that moment. NOW he was gonna be thinking about it and he'd so much rather just cruise and ignore responsibilities and all that drama.
"Is that your way of giving me permission to hex people if they happen to deserve 'em, sir?" Jim grinned. Alright. So the Headmaster wasn't sooo bad.

Alice skipped into the room and when she saw the headmaster and a older(rather good-looking)boy she nearly fell over. Why she wasn't in Hufflepuff she didn't know. She walked over to the bookshelf and picked up a book that looked interesting and went to sit in a comfy chair.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Elizabeth Nyx Woods Third Year | Elle quickly entered the room. Excitement was boiling up inside her. She loved DADA, from what she heard from her family. Realizing there were at least ten students in here, she chose a place not too far from them, but a good distance to receive some privacy.
Knowing what to do already (she planned beforehand), the redhead got out two padded dummies. Pushing them to her "secret" place was more difficult than she thought. A 4 feet and 7 inched girl like her would find a two tall padded dummies heavy, much less one. Panting from exhaustion, she sat on the floor for a while.
After recovering, Elle slipped her wand out from her sleeve and walked backward with an attainable distance to finish off the dummies. "Okay, let's begin this now!"
"Homuncio Leviosa!" Swishing and flicking her wand at it, the dummy rose, wobbling in mid-air until she continued, "Avis Oppugno!" A flock of canaries attacked it, creating little wholes, but that was not enough to defeat the enemy or defend herself. "Confringo..." Suddenly, the dummy was in flames, Elle quickly doused it with "Aguamenti!" She just wanted to test her knowledge for spells. "Descendo!" the dummy slowly landed, but before it had the chance to reach the ground, Elle shouted, "DIFFINDO!" causing the dummy to tear into thousands of pieces.
Exhausted by the consecutive spells, Elle sat down hard on the floor. It was her first time to use magic properly like that. Feeling a little guilty, Elle tried hard to recall the spell to remove traces of the previous enchantments. "Deletrius.." All the fragments of the dummy were placed together once again, perfect.
"VIOLA! I DID IT! ELIZABETH NYX WOODS DID IT!"

Audrey stood in the practice room reading a book of defensive spells. She had the book in her left hand and her new wand in the right. She flicked her wand and thought "Avis" and a flock of birds came pouring into the room. She then flicked her wand again and said "Oppugno" and watch the birds attack the dummy fairly violently. She was a little disturbed by this so she pointed her wand at the birds and said "Finite Incantatem". Being an Auror was not something she could she herself doing. Audrey didn't like violence.

"VIOLA! I DID IT! ELIZABETH NYX WOODS DID IT!" Alice had heard the sound of spells and went to look. When she saw a girl who looked about the same age as her casting so many spells, she couldn't help but gasp in awe. Did all the students who have magical parents know this much? She hoped not otherwise she would feel extremely stupid.
Deciding that she needed to get to know people and wanted to learn some D.A.D.A., she approached the girl. "Hi,I'm Alice and I just wanted to know if you could teach me some of those spells? If you're not busy."
She was just a little cautios of this girl after she saw what the girl had done to the dummy.

"You are oddly literal, boy," Tate laughed, shaking his head like a wet dog. The discussion about journeys had to do with the long path, not with the open case on the top of the pile. In his life, Tate had lived in more countries than he could count on one hand, held several jobs, changed responsibilities and duties on a whim... life was fluid if you were.
"Regardless. Not interested. Fair enough. Let's move on to your desire to hex people in the corridor..." Hm. What did he really expect? "That would be a no."

"I haven't thought much about... all that stuff." He confessed. Eh. Why would he? It was years away still.
Or, well, a year and a half.
Jim grinned. "Well see at least I clarified." Y'know instead of freely hexing people and bestowing antlers upon them.
Though come on now, it'd be like a gift coming from him.

"Well. Go think about it and chat with your Head of House. He won't lead you astray," Tate pushed off the table and headed toward the door again.
"Let's say... don't hex anyone until you've read up on wand drawing protocols in the ITF and Auror handbooks." At least he could get the boy thinking about things, even if he didn't decide in law enforcement.

At least he could get the boy thinking about things, even if he didn't decide in law enforcement. "Vindictus would probably say 'Quidditch' wouldn't he?" Jim raised his brows. He hadn't done much talking to his Head of House at all. It was too risky considering it wasn't like Jim tried all that hard to earn points or get good grades, or do any of the things Ravenclaws were apparently supposed to. Most of the time he went out of his way to do the opposite and really, drawing attention to that wasn't the smartest thing to do.
But then again.... Quidditch.
Jim frowned and gave the headmaster a distinctly annoyed look. Life was MUCH better and easier when you didn't have to face all that growing up rubbish, responsibilities and expectations and all those things.
That last bit though.
James Wilkes grinned innocently. "International Task Force and Auror handbooks. You got it, boss." He saluted.

"Any good Head would provide you with advice based on your interests, not suggestions simply based on his own," Tate hoped that was true. Max wasn't just one impulse, but he did seem occasionally to have simpler motivations than the average person.
"Let me know how that goes. If you'll excuse me, I should head back to my office."

Hogwarts RPG Name: Amur Neverwinter Fourth Year | ~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~ He found it somewhat strange, that while he didn't know Legend that well, he would be dueling with him today. Or at least that was the plan. But if he knew anything about Gryffindors and plans, it was that they never really stayed on the track they had been designed for.
Stepping into the training hall, he cast his eyes about. Everything looked the same, nothing had changed. There was a slight relief that there were no scars in the walls from last year when he had dueled Danika. A very interesting experience that taught him a lot more than he had expected it to. Hopefully, he would learn just as much from this duel, while have fun.
With a small smile, he placed his bag safely out of the way to the side and moved to one of the window's overlooking the courtyard covered in snow as he waited for Legend to show up.

Pushing the door open to the defense training room, Legend glanced around in amazement. This room was like a future Auror's dream; minus the actual criminals. "Hey Sabel." The younger boy said with a wave as he made his way over. Oh it was SNOOWING outside!

Legend had half the mind to say that he was born ready. But that was so cliche that he just couldn't bring himself to say it. "Course I am, this will be an easy win." The blonde grinned right back. "We're going outside right?" He asked as he pointed to the window. Why wouldn't they want to go and duel in the snow? That would be epic.

Why would anyone want to do something they liked for fun as a job? Wouldn't it get old after a while and suck the joy out of it?
"Alright, sir. Catch you later I guess."
Yep.
Jim saluted rather cheekily and then sauntered out, giving one of those uber cool 'sup' upward head-jerk-nod things in acknowledgement of Legend as he went past.

No. A win was a win. As in...not losing. But Sabel would see this soon enough, when Legend destroyed him in the duel.
Dropping his bag on the floor, Legend opened it and pulled on a hat. It was cold outside, he wasn't going to be stupid! The sixth year nodded toward Jimmy as he left the room. Were they still doing their super awesome secret plan? Eh. He wasn't so sure.
Walking over to the window Legend flicked the swatch toward the other side. After a few hard tugs to the window it opened up wide. "Come on!" Be prepared Sabel! You were going down.

With a grin, Sabel followed Legend's example, save for the adorning of the hat, and drew open the window he stood by. It was a pull and a heave before he was up on the sill and dropping over into the snow on the other side. The air was biting cold, but he would be warm enough soon if Legend was as much of a challenge as he was presenting himself to be.
Turning back around, he drew the window shut so as not to let the cold air get in, waiting just beside the one Legend would appear from to make sure he didn't get stuck or need a hand down. Not that he expected the boy to have a hard time, but there was courtesy.

He didn't want to be trapped outside in the cold. Or have to break it open. So, he'd leave it like this.
Jumping down he drew his breath as he noticed how cold it really was. Dude. Winter was evil. His green eyes landed on the snow. Hm. "Back to back!" Legend said as he took a couple more steps toward and turned around. "In like...5 paces." Because their clearly was not enough space for 10.

Grinning, he moved to where the other boy was and stood back to back with him. "Should we holster our wands on our hips as well and walk as if we've been in the saddle for too long." He hoped Legend didn't take it the wrong way; he thought the idea was excellent, it was just highly amusing at this point in time. All he could think of was John Wayne in the old black and whites, spinning around on his spiffy cowboy boots when the old Western drawl of 'draw' was uttered. They should have brought cowboy hats.

He hoped Legend didn't take it the wrong way; he thought the idea was excellent, it was just highly amusing at this point in time. All he could think of was John Wayne in the old black and whites, spinning around on his spiffy cowboy boots when the old Western drawl of 'draw' was uttered. They should have brought cowboy hats. Legend chuckled. An old western? He had seen a muggle movie about that, and it was...oddly like how he just acted. "Sure! Then we can get on our horses and enter the Hogs Head and kick everyone out to run the place." He grinned, even though Sabel couldn't see it.
The sixth year had been sure that, that was how wizard duel's were conducted. His eyes fell upon the snow. Wand hand twitching, Legend looked back up. This was no time to play with snow. "You ready?"

Laughing again, Sabel nodded in decision. "Ready. Loser buys a butterbeer, or some sort of warm drink." Remembering allergies was always a good thing. "On the count of five. One..." He took a step away from Legend in the opposite direction, overly tempted to spread his legs and bow them in pure John Wayne style. Only problem was snow didn't really condone walking Western, and he didn't want to end up on his face on the second count.

Legend took a step forward as Sabel said the girl one. "Two...". They were only one two and his mind started jumping to the number of different spells that he could use. Which one??? WHICH!?
He needed to win to get his free Butterbeer!

He needed to win to get his free Butterbeer! It seemed a little strange, dueling again. The last time he had tried his hand at it was with Danika, and that had been an experience he didn't think he would ever forget. Whatever he had learned from it, he was sure he would find cropping up again, especially as his mind went strangely blank. No worry about spells or timing, just as simple 'three' To announce their next step.

Deciding that she needed to get to know people and wanted to learn some D.A.D.A., she approached the girl. "Hi,I'm Alice and I just wanted to know if you could teach me some of those spells? If you're not busy."
She was just a little cautious of this girl after she saw what the girl had done to the dummy. Elle, panting hard on the floor and sweating, looking up to see who was talking. There stood a girl, about the same age as her who needed help. Standing up and keeping her composure, she replied with an appealing smile.
"Elizabeth Nyx Woods here. Call me Elle," She nodded once. "You want to learn how to defend yourself?"
The First Year turned and got her wand out from a secret pocket of her uniform. With a flick of her wand, she muttered, "Homuncio Leviosa!" and brought the dummy a few feet before the two.
"Got any spells you know, Alice?" Trying to test her knowledge with spells before she would begin teaching this girl.
Elle gestured to Alice-the dummy is all yours. She sidestepped, folded her arms and waited.
