Because the Headmaster has no use for a second office, he has re-purposed this room for an entirely different use. The room is larger than it should be; the fact that Tate reduced a wall into an adjoining room is obvious by the fact that his ‘office’ has two doors along the same long wall. Rather than leaving an empty office or reinventing the standard dueling area, the room now serves as a training facility for those with an interest in Defense and Defense related careers: Aurors, Hit Wizards, and the International Task Force (among others).

The two windows in the room face out over an inner courtyard and let in tree-filtered light throughout the day. Beside one such window, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves have been stuffed full of countless Defense texts. The titles range from ancient tomes in spidery indecipherable scripts to glossy hardcovers featuring some of the premiere Defensive authors of the day. The long table is conducive for transcribing notes from the various books, but there are also a few deep chairs pushed together for general reading or quiet conversation. There is a sign posted on the bookshelf.

Along the opposite wall, leading from the far door halfway to the window, Tate has set up various pieces of exercise equipment, intending for those interested in pursuing a Defensive career to develop themselves physically as well as mentally. A punching bag is suspended from the ceiling in the corner, sitting beside a stand of free weights and other odds and ends, mats and exercise balls and the like. Stretching along the remainder of the space to the window is an enormous climbing wall, complete with hand and foot holds all the way up to the ceiling. There are no ropes, but the floor is generously cushioned with a charm.

Between the two windows sit a series of padded dummies, perfect for any dueling practice needed for class or just to be used in the process of learning new spells. Drag one or two out and practice. Either of the windows onto the courtyard may be opened and, weather permitting, training can extend into this open space. Try not to kill and trees or squirrels in the process.

The barrage of nonverbals kind of caught her off guard. o_________O

Shoes... stuck... to the floor... Lexi was struck in the face with Langlock. Greatttt. Ducking she was missed by the next few spells. She GLARED at Jim as she tried to get her shoes up off of the floor. She couldn't speak so she tried to harm him with her EYES.

Gripping her wand tightly she she tried to cast nonverbally at the boy. TRIED. The only thing that would come out... was butterflies. Dangit. Pretty pink butterflies... but quite useless. Sighs. She pointed her wand at her feet and thought REALLY hard Finite Incantatum. Nothing yet. She was at his mercy. Her bottom lip jutted out as she tried to flick her shield into place.

Grin.

He followed that lot up with Immobulus + Expelliarmus on her wand arm, and sauntered closer.

"Gee you know, you're so much prettier when you aren't talking so much? Even with the antlers." He teased a bit, not wholly serious. He eyed the butterflies and placed one hand over his heart.

Her wand arm immediately stopped moving, quite ridiculously, in midmotion and her wand flew from her hand. She thought she was going cry! HER WAND! Her lip wibbled again and she GLARED at the older boy.

She didn't even care that he said she was pretty. She didn't care what he said. Not now that he had grown antlers from her head, glued her shoes and her tongue, STOLEN her wand and and and and. BOO!

She was thinking some pretty nasty things at the boy when he brought his wand up once more and cast. As the jet of light hit her her eyes kind of went all glassy for a moment. Wait... what the heck... What was she doing on the floor? Did Jim just tell her she was pretty? He did! She blinked her eyes up at him, noticeably softer. With her arm that was still mobile she pointed to her mouth and wibbled her lip again.

After a moment she let out a huff of air and with her free hand she reached down, untied her shoes one at a time, slid her feet out of them and stood up. Hehehe. He was SO pretty and he thought SHE was pretty! Something that sounded an awful lot like a giggle escaped her throat and she stepped forward. Staring at him for a moment she closed the distance between them and kissed him softly. Hehehe. She was kissing JIM WILKES.

Lexi frowned a bit when he stepped back. She was enjoying that kiss.

And he was pointing two wands at her?! She tried to raise her wand arm... why was it immobolized? Was that HER wand he had? What the heck was going on. She blinked several times and raised her free hand in surrender.

What was wrong with Jim? He called her pretty. He STARTED the whole thing. She would have crossed her arms across her chest had that one arm not been all wonky from the Immobulus spell he cast on her. HMPH. Poking her lip out again she placed her hand on her hip and tapped her pink socked foot impatiently. She pointed to her mouth again. Not for kisses... yet... Jim Wilkes. She needed to speak. NEEDED TO.

Sigh. That James Wilkes and that Lexi Denver had the ability to get into trouble even when he was standing there watching them. He was looking right at them, and they still managed it.

He couldn't say how, but it was an admirable skill.

"I think perhaps we should call it on behalf of temporary insanity, yeah?" He gestured for Jim to step back further from the girl. "Finite Incantatem."

Hopefully, that would set the girl to rights... physically and mentally.

Jim DID step back, both wands still up and ready, one overhead, one lower and extended in front of him. He shook his head at Lexi. No. Nononono.

He was staying AWAY from her mouth. That was a dangerzone.

When Tate cast Finite, Jim relaxed a little.

and then, hang on.

"... Insanity?" He lowered the wands and stared at the headmaster. "I think that was the most sane thing she's EVER done, personally. Its just the timing thats off."

Kissing James Wilkes was NEVER an insane choice.

Tate... where did he come from? Ooooooh. Right. When Tate cast she felt her tongue unglue... and her thoughts were back to normal. For HER anyway. Her lip wibbled again as she wiggled her now free wand arm around and reached up to touch the top of her head. Really? The antlers were STILL there. Great. "Thank you, sir," she mumbled before focusing her gaze on Jim Wilkes.

Taking a step forward she grabbed for her wand and GLARED at him. "You. I swear. How. ARGH!" she exclaimed as she snatched at the wand. "I wasn't trying to kiss you again you ruddy idiot. I just wanted you to undo whatever you did to me!" she said heatedly.

Turning on her heel she cast Finite on her shoes and grabbed them up off of the floor. Turning back once more she looked at Jimmy with a still confused look on her face. She HAD enjoyed that kiss. What the heck?! "Great errr duel... thanks. We will have to do that again sometime I have to go now bye!" she said. Running from the room with her Converse clutched to her chest she didn't risk another glance back.

In a moment of desperation Selina yelled, "Reducto!" All of the objects that were flying at her blew up mid air and missed her by mere inches. She then looked at the object that was now broken and battered and said, "Reducio." which returned the objects to normal size. Finally dealing with the broken objects she muttered, "Repario." At this everything that was broken by her spell was repaired.

At the advancing animals she said, "Impedimenta." This slowed them all down and when they were slow she made them all disappear. Once they were gone she turned back to the boy, smirked and said, "Immobulus!"

Tate watched the girl leave before turning back to Wilkes. Ah, Wilkes. Trouble.

"You have a way with women." Straight truth. Not the good way, either. "Girls are seldom worth the effort we put into them. Shall we...?" He gestured to the part of the room that needed straightening.

Skot carefully peeked into the room right after a girl went running out with her shoes in hand. He glanced at the door. 'Defense Training Room' He carefully walked in and saw people dueling. He took a spot next to the bookshelves and watched. Being a first year, he wanted to try and learn some new spells to help him in the future.

You don't read a book when you already know the ending and you don't start on a journey with all the steps preplanned," Tate shrugged and followed Wilkes toward the table. Women were complicated and made life messy, but that's what made life interesting, he supposed.

Eventually. Why couldn't these kids just WAIT and lose their minds once they were out of his school?

"Eh? Yeah, I could. I probably could. You have a memory you want me to steal from them?" Not that he would, but it was a hypothetical, right?

"I'll vouch that you didn't invite Miss Denver to kiss you, and that she did it under duress. But I won't take her memory. You know there have been studies that link early onset dementia with repeated memory alteration charms."

He shoved a book off the table and watched it zip into place on the shelf. "But you're still talking about the destination, and I'm talking about the journey. And the destination you're talking about probably isn't one I want to discuss." Snogging. Pfft. Kids.

Selina was flung by her ankle into the air by the smug second year. But she would not be bested by him yet. Growing up she was always the Quidditch playing, rough and tough girl. "Oh yeah I read that." He shrugged. "Seems kinda funny to me that that's only just become a thing now. And if its such a big deal, why wasn't it in the Prophet?" Jim put a lot of stock in the Daily Prophet. His cousin worked there after all.

Oh that was neat. Books charmed to return themselves? He looked up again.

"I don't start journeys unless I know the destination is gonna be worth my time." Jim offered.

Not expecting the First year to react so quickly the spell hit him right in the chest. He instantly tightened up and fell with a thud. "What am i supposed to do now?" he thought to himself.
His wand was still on his chest where it landed but only truly powerful wizards can do magic without speaking. He doubt he could do it.
Looks like he lost the battle . He didn't want to admit it but there was absolutely nothing he could do.

Getting dizzy from her suspension in air she muttered, "Liberacorpus." In an instant she was back on her two feet with a thud. Walking over to the frozen body she admired her work. She was quick on her feet she had to give it to herself. And without one lesson. Of course Aunt Jennette was the best teacher in the world growing up. Her over excited arguments with her Uncle John were more than enough lessons on DADA. She must have used every spell in the book at least once on her husband.

Leaning over the boy she pointed her wand at him and said, "Finite Incantatum." The spell quickly began it's magic and she reached her hand out to help the boy who was laying on the ground.

"Need a hand." She had hoped the Professor had seen that. It was one of her finest moments.

"That's a shame, really," Tate perched on the edge of the table. "Because you're quick on your feet and creative and I saw a future for you in law enforcement, if it pleased you, but that is a field wrought with journeys that are all about the journey."

He didn't want to speculate on the newspaper thing and was immediately sorry he'd brought it up. "They discover new things all the time. Anyway. Maybe you should save antlers for the really deserving?"

When he asked about the food the small redhead pulled a strand of her untamed red hair behind her ear from her suspension mid air. She answered, " 'Yeah where ever is fine with me. Why don't you pick."
