Because the Headmaster has no use for a second office, he has re-purposed this room for an entirely different use. The room is larger than it should be; the fact that Tate reduced a wall into an adjoining room is obvious by the fact that his ‘office’ has two doors along the same long wall. Rather than leaving an empty office or reinventing the standard dueling area, the room now serves as a training facility for those with an interest in Defense and Defense related careers: Aurors, Hit Wizards, and the International Task Force (among others).

The two windows in the room face out over an inner courtyard and let in tree-filtered light throughout the day. Beside one such window, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves have been stuffed full of countless Defense texts. The titles range from ancient tomes in spidery indecipherable scripts to glossy hardcovers featuring some of the premiere Defensive authors of the day. The long table is conducive for transcribing notes from the various books, but there are also a few deep chairs pushed together for general reading or quiet conversation. There is a sign posted on the bookshelf.

Along the opposite wall, leading from the far door halfway to the window, Tate has set up various pieces of exercise equipment, intending for those interested in pursuing a Defensive career to develop themselves physically as well as mentally. A punching bag is suspended from the ceiling in the corner, sitting beside a stand of free weights and other odds and ends, mats and exercise balls and the like. Stretching along the remainder of the space to the window is an enormous climbing wall, complete with hand and foot holds all the way up to the ceiling. There are no ropes, but the floor is generously cushioned with a charm.

Between the two windows sit a series of padded dummies, perfect for any dueling practice needed for class or just to be used in the process of learning new spells. Drag one or two out and practice. Either of the windows onto the courtyard may be opened and, weather permitting, training can extend into this open space. Try not to kill and trees or squirrels in the process.

Antlers. Off. Her. Head. PLEASE. Ugh. She listened to Tate and nodded her understanding. Good thing she hadn't blown that shelf up like she had intended. Hogwarts hath no fury like a Tate scorned... or something like that. Heh.

She narrowed her eyes at the boy and curled her lip in disdain. If she had to sport antlers she was SO going to learn a jinx to make Jim just as ... tarnished as she. With her wand free hand she reached up and pulled some of the pumpkin goop from her hair and threw it at her opponent and smiled sweetly.

Giving Jim a quick curtsy and a giggle as he bowed she brought her shield up lazily as he cast, rather slowly, a stunner. It glanced off of her shield, but did cause her to take a step back. Why was he duelling like this now? She had had fun before. Oh well... she was going to take advantage of his laziness.

As soon as the spell rebounded from her shield she cast. "Furnunculus, Duro, Densaugeo," she said in rapid succession. The only spell that was not aimed at his face was Duro which she aimed at his wand arm. Flicking her shield back into place she glided to her left, pacing like a lioness about to pounce.

She preferred to duel someone that made her work, made her think... She wasn't just in here for fun. She had not duelled in three years and she needed practice. She needed someone to challenge her and help her learn and Jimmy was good enough if he wasn't being lazy.

Lexi watched him closely and flicked her shield into place. "I did no such thing," she said quietly. He was good... he just didn't want anyone to know. Which was stupid. Sighing as the stunners bounced off of her shield and dropped her shield when the onslaught ended.

Moving swiftly to the right, when she usually went left, she cast Glisseo at his feet once more and the next spell she cast at the wall behind him, hoping it would rebound and hit him in the back. The jelly legs jinx was stronger than the others she had cast and she flicked her shield back up after all of her muttering and began to move slowly back around him.

Claire was walking around, exploring the castle, when she saw a room marked 'Defense Training Room'. That had to be fun, right? She opened the door to some big flashes of light. "Wholy-" She stopped herself before she could finish expressing her surprise. The muggle school had taught her some bad habits. She entered the room feeling slightly apprehensive, but then she got into watching and started to really wish she had some popcorn. The girl with antlers on her head was being pretty darn hilarious. She figured the boy must be older. He sidestepped all of her spells with a practiced finesse, but fired slowly, almost as if he weren't trying... This was VERY interesting, and she was cooking up the perfect distraction.

Selina walked in the room and saw many students practicing with their wands and reading literature on spells. She pulled out her own wand and looked at it. Since she had arrived at Hogwarts her holster had been burning with anticipation for her to use it. But every time she would think she should go and experiment something would stop her. Maybe it was fear, maybe it was the want to go and play Quidditch, whatever it was she had not tested her wand yet.

As she held the wand tight in her grasp she felt what she did at Olivanders- nothing. But then it began to feel warm. Like it was warming up to her. She stood there for several minutes as the wand got to know it's owner. Finally she felt something warm run down her whole body.

She in excitement went and grabbed the dummy and pulled it out. Thinking hard to some of the common spells her mother used around the house she stated, "Wingardium Leviosa!" At the sound of the command the dummy slowly began to rise off of the ground. In shock Selina dropped her wand and the dummy fell. Rushing to pick up her wand and the dummy Selina composed herself once more.

She was excited. She pointed her wand at one of the books and said, "Accio book." The book she was referring to flew into her hand. She then spun on her heel and pointed at the door, "Alohomora!" And it opened.

Now that she was no longer afraid it was time to practice.

Elektra walked into the room. She saw a lot of people practicing and boy was Elektra more than ready to give her little wand a little spin. She was twirling her wand in her hand as she looked around the room. She heard a voice and their incantation was spot on and she looked over. It was Selina. Elektra looked down at her wand and then looked up at Selina and had a little smirk on her face and started to walk towards Selina. She stayed a couple steps back away from her and held her wand up focusing on Selina's dummy. She flicked her wrist and pointed the wand towards the dummy and says, "Engorgio."

And WE SEE YOU, Jim Wilkes. And the antlers.

I was so proud and it was, ugh. Sir, I meant no disrespect I just am really excited for your class and I love DADA. The last thing I wanted was to... yes sir." She bowed her head down after gesturing to his want for her to practice with the dummy. That was how she felt currently... like a dummy.

Selina tucked a stray strand of her red hair out of her face behind her ears. her hair had gotten quite confused as soon as she was frightened by her teacher. Finally taming her mop of hair she turned back to the boy and said, "Pleasure. I'm a first year, by the way if you can't tell."

Smirking slightly she drew her wand. Selina was a force to be reckon with. Her father had always said that she would be good in Defense Against the Dark Arts because she had read so much literature on it. Time to test the theory, "Better question is, are you?"

JP raised his eyebrows out of surprise.
"Wow. Not bad for a first year!" JP ran to try and get away from the charm that had just been shot at him.
He hid behind three crates and the spell missed him by nearly seconds.
Turning around behind the crates he yelled four things in rapid succession.
"Hopefully this will keep her busy for a bit. I have an idea i'd like to try" He said to himself.
He shot the spell to his opponent. "Wingardium Leviosa!" Two crates floated in the air."Engorgio" They grew. "Depulsio" they flew right at the girl and lastly CONFRINGO! they blew up right in her general vicinity. Whether they got her he could not see, cause at once he cast a quick protective charm in his area to hide himself while he quickly tranfigured scrap wood into squirrels and mice.
Last charm. "Avis." Let's see if this actually works then.

"How are those antlers treating you? I'd imagine they'd change your centre of balance a bit," Jim spoke conversationally, only pausing to shield his feet and step away from the smoother area of the floor. "Maybe you should just.... lower them and charge."

Something rebounded off the wall behind him and Jim twisted sideways, bringing his wand up and timing a quick, rubbery looking shield, which a jinx rebounded off, heading back to Lexi with its own power and the added momentum of the rebound.

He'd sort of forgotten the presence of the headmaster since the man's attention was now on other kids and no longer directly on them.

Fighting the urge to stick her tongue out at Jim she simply smiled. She DID have terrible balance if she wasn't focusing.

Lexi bounced a little as Jim decided he would play... errr, not PLAY, but you know. Whatever. Smiling triumphantly she took a step back and then quick as lightning she cast a stunner and then flicked her shield back into place, still taking a few steps backward.

"Give me hooves... and I think I might lose my temper a little bit," she said with a little giggle. Yeah Jim Wilkes, we know you can do stuff.

"Cute." Jim responded, shielding her stunner. It wasn't clear whether he meant the stunner, the idea of her losing her temper or the giggle. Thing about Lexi though, Jimmy was finding her very easy to read.

And while she was fast, and quick on bringing her shield up, that was a bit of a disadvantage in his eyes, constantly keeping it up and relying completely on that to keep herself safe, especially when she wasn't up for non-verbals yet.

His wand flicked out and he started a bit of a barrage of non-verbals.

Colloshoo to glue Lexi's shoes to the ground, Langlock to glue her tongue to the roof of her mouth, Engorgio Skullus to make her head get bigger, Steleus to cause her to sneeze uncontrollably and Confundo to confuse her. He kept moving as he cast.

Lexi smiled at him crookedly. "I know," she said. She WAS cute. That HAD to be what he was talking about. Hehehe. Jimmy Wilkes said she was cute. Her shield might have dropped a little bit...

The barrage of nonverbals kind of caught her off guard. o_________O

Shoes... stuck... to the floor... Lexi was struck in the face with Langlock. Greatttt. Ducking she was missed by the next few spells. She GLARED at Jim as she tried to get her shoes up off of the floor. She couldn't speak so she tried to harm him with her EYES.

Gripping her wand tightly she she tried to cast nonverbally at the boy. TRIED. The only thing that would come out... was butterflies. Dangit. Pretty pink butterflies... but quite useless. Sighs. She pointed her wand at her feet and thought REALLY hard Finite Incantatum. Nothing yet. She was at his mercy. Her bottom lip jutted out as she tried to flick her shield into place.
