Welcome to the first Care of Magical Creatures lesson of the term.
The class area has been slightly rearranged, and instead of seeing multiple rows of benches, the seating has been placed to form a large circle. In the middle, you will find nothing but space, which will be used alot in this class.
Lesson numero one will begin soon, so take a seat and chat with your neighbour while you wait. But make sure you don't talk too loudly or Maya won't be glad that no one hears her over the sound of your own voices.
Where is Professor Saylen? Well, she's not in a costume and currently being busy with a creature inside a covered-up crate.
» Remember to please describe what your character is wearing. You can link to a costume, like so, or explain what your character is wearing - 'She has a lion mask, yellow striped tshirt, orange pants, her fluffy slippers and a tail made of a belt... etc. This is so that Maya can know how you all look, to be able to conduct the lesson to the fullest.
Makeup is a plus, and whatever other accessories you can think of. Points will be awarded for creativity and participation. This class is not a Quidditch match, so no need to stress about answering a question first ; )
Squash?! Walnut was going to be squashed? What exactly was this three-legged race going to entail that would make her precious kitty get squashed?! Kurumi wasn't sure she was looking forward to this activity anymore.
"Okay," Kurumi nodded still holding Walnut. Walnut certainly looked relieved that he wasn't going to have to stay too close to Eino. Then again, the cat was not too excited about being kept in a box. Kurumi left Eino for a moment before bringing Walnut to Professor Saylen. "Thank you, Professor."
Good choice. Maya reached out her other hand and grabbed the small cat. The Crup seemed quite interested in it. "They'll get along fine, I'm sure." If not...well, they'll take care of that if needed.
SPOILER!!: Salander and Jakers

.... or with the Jake-man. He was cool with that too.
... unless he really wanted to just do that essay, after all he got a good deal out of Potions despite all that, he thought.
Salander looked to the Hufflepuff lad and tilted his head, wondering what the other lad wanted to do.

Salander?
Fine with him.
"Oi, Salander," Jake looked over to the young man and jerked his head, wordlessly suggesting he come on over. They could be lazy together. But then he looked back at Saylen for a moment. "I'd much prefer to write an essay than... this."
But still. Salander was cool.

Wow. That boy was fast.
Never before had she seen someone minimize the space between two people like he had.
But, she was not going to be participating. She had no costume on, see?
"An essay?" Maya looked at him, raising an eyebrow. "Mister Morgan, other Professors might let you off that easy, but I will not." Mkay? "Now, you are a team, so work like one." And happy smile again.

"That is good." Maya smiled at the young girl, looking to where she had pointed. Hehehe. Funny, it was going to be.
OOC: Sorry it's taking so long to proceed with the class.
I had a list with my next instructions to you all, but it went poof, and now I'm doing it from scratch again... It's really late here and I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open, so I'm going to pause the lesson here for today.
Feel free to keep 'horsing' around (pun intended). Hehe. Keep it clean, and take it easy and all that fun stuff
Louisa was still amazed by the forked tail of this.. crup. It went away and then got back without biting the Professor! Wow. She so needed to be braver (is it a word?) to creatures. Never mind that now, she looked around seeing none of her friends around. Well, she saw that Vashti and Kita paired up so she had no chance maybe.
"I need a partner, ma'am." It was okay to call the lady ma'am instead of professor, right? The young girl in this costume stood there rocking her body slightly. She better end up with a brave and athletic student, not that she lacked that.. just she didn't want to do all the work *lies*

"Huh," Jake responded in a short burst of a humourless laugh. He was in a bad mood.
I think it's quite clear that Jake could be SUCH a child sometimes.

So he'd have to make a fool of himself?
GREAT!
Jake simply didn't respond. He actually figured Treyen had the right idea. "First time I've ever agreed with Treyen Lockhart," he mumbled to himself, more in surprise than anything. Huh. Who'd've thunk it?
The young man chucked the shirt with feathers roughly onto the floor and headed over to Salander, adjusting his aviator sunglasses. His trouser legs were tucked into his boots but not so that he looked like a total n00b. They were more or less straight leg in any case. Now he probably looked like a muggle biker.
... yeah. No.
"May as well start. But the second I start looking like a bigger fool than the guy dressed as a gorilla, I'm out."
And he meant that in the nicest way possible.

Wow! His grandad owned a ship? "That is pretty awesome, you know? Not many people can say they have been on a ship especially around here." The closest Mia had come was a glass bottom boat. Really not the same thing. "Do you and your grandad sail the seven seas? And do you have to scrub the decks?" She asked with a laugh before adding. "Do you pretend to be a pirate?" Because if her grandad owned a ship, Mia could totally see herself pretending to be a pirate.
As they continued to walk around, Mia looked at Jacob again. "You feel awkward? I am actually finding it quite comfortable. Once you get the rhythm of walking right, you kinda get used to it."
Considering that Jacob was the Captain of the Ravenclaw team, he didn't seem to obsess over quidditch which was finally good to see from a boy because once they got started, you couldn't get them to shut up. "Well seeing how he is in charge, I guess he's entitled to procrastinate."
Seeing that Jacob was uncomrfotable in his suit, Mia slowed their walking down until they finally came to a stop.
He nodded, he was used to a family of pirates sailors... so really it was normal... they were always captains... and now Jacob was a captain, just a diffrent kind. "I was sailing with my parents ship, until I was eleven, But they're muggles and didn't really like it when I decided to come here." he said monotonously. "And, yes. Now I clean my grandads ship... but can't sail it." especially since with a ship that big you needed like 12 people to man it successfully... and it was true, Patroclus seemed to be the only person to actually know about Jacobs family of Pirates. He bit his lip at her question about 'pretending to be pirates, but said nothing.
"Yeah, its like I can't controll the right side of my body..." it was weird... He wanted his body back!
"good point" Yes, he was entitled to procrastinate, but Jacob still wanted to know what was going on.
The professor seemed to have ignored his question... "I'll take that as a no." he took his arm from Mia's shoulder and started tugging at his suit. What ever... its no big deal if he dies. Jacob felt a bit more comfortable. And put his arm back around Mia. Moving their foot again slowly to start back up.
PAIR UP?! But Cedric hated pairing up! And tie yourself up with two other students? And then there would be a race or something? Alright, this was officially a children's party. Cedric furrowed his brow, his lips quirked in the corners and exhibited other signs of deep thinking. He was deciding whether to leave just like what Treyen and Ellie did (he felt sorry for them!)... or stay and merely look like a fool but gain housepoints which of course, his house was quite in need of. He chose the latter, being practical that he was. Well, he knew he couldn't look like a fool if he knew how to keep his cool. Yeah. That was it. Now for a partner...
HMM. Looks like everybody else was already paired up other than him. He was left behind? Well, Professor Maya is left behind, too. Whiiiiiiistle."I don't have a partner, Professor." Could you be my partner?

Now that the drama of the Crup and his tail was over Patroclus had a larger problem to deal with......his huge set of golden wings that were going to a bit of an obstacle to work out if he was to win the race.......
Worser still was the fact that he also had to find a partner, to attach to his wings. Perhaps an Abraxan costume wasn't the best idea.
Looking around Patroclus tried to spot someone who was free, partnering was always such a difficult section of the lesson, especially once all your close friends had been taken. However someone who was spotting an awesome pair of Batman Glasses, caught the Prefect's eye.
"Hey Ced," The Horse-Face boy grinned, "Got a Partner?"

Lexie watched while her classmates paired or teamed up, one by one. She stood rooted at the spot, not knowing what to do. Most of her classmates were not first years and knowing that didn't help at all. It's true that there were a few students staring around blankly with a look of confusion not unlike the one on her own face. But they look so intimidating. She frowned at that thought.
Then she spotted a girl, probably a little older than she was, standing alone. And her costume. We look almost alike! Well except for her dress, and the ears... and gosh, the colour! Lexie walked towards the girl.

"Hi, I'm Lexie and I like your costume!" She piped in an unusually high voice. "Do you want to be my partner?" She asked timidly.
They had to pair up? This was so unfair. *pouts* Then again she came to the lesson so she HAD to participate right? Right. Now if only she had someone to pair up with... By the looks of things a lot of people already had their partners.
"I need a partner too," Sakura volunteered, having heard a few people say they needed partners. If someone wanted to partner with her the offer was now out there. As it were Sakura couldn't be bothered to move at that point in time so she instead inspected her nails. They were currently only painted with clear polish but she was thinking of maybe using black, or something glittery.
Ohhh she could use black and then put glitter stuff on the top, maybe try and make each nail look like something from the night sky. As soon as this lesson was over that was what she was going to do. If done right Sakura was sure her nails would look really pretty.

Amadeus crossed his arms rather uncomfortably, although he was already sure of his partner: Braeden Stonem. It had been rather difficult for Deus to even consider skipping today's lesson, especially as they were all expected to dress up as a creature. How unbearable, to be compared to a creature that was lower than wizard. Brae had really been the one to convince him to be a true Ravenclaw and not skip out on what was to be a "fun" lesson, in the Gryffindor's words. True, Amadeus had luckily chosen a comfortable costume, but this was still no less embarrassing. "I can't believe you talked me into this," He muttered, pulled his hood onto his head for disguise and absent-mindedly grabbing his tail. "I feel like a stupid... leopard. Whatever you call this, this thing." He shook his tail in Stonem's general direction, the look on his face one of disgust.
Effy spun around slowly, causing her red and orange phoenix dress and her red hair to twirl in wind, as she looked around herself for a partner. She cleared her throat, "Umm... Does anyone else need a partner?" she asked quietly while raising her hand slightly. She hoped she wouldn't be the only one partnerless.

The Hufflepuff prefect, waiting for the teacher's response, was startled when he heard his name being uttered. And it was a guy's voice. Professor Saylen couldn't possibly have... a man's voice, could she? Cedric cocked his head to one side, and saw who it was. The Gryffindor Prefect... dressed up in an Abraxan attire. It obscured his real look so it was hard at first to tell who he actually was but then Cedric caught a sight of the gleaming badge on his chest.
"Oh, hey." Cedric force-managed a smile. He was hoping to be partnered with Professor Saylen, you know... but Patroclus wasn't--couldn't be--a bad choice fora partner... for he simply seemed cool and nice and apt and all that. "Haven't."

Unlike his best friend, Braeden was completely excited about this day's lesson. How often was it that he got to use the super awesome mutant deer costume his aunt had made for him two years ago!? Sure, it was a couple hundred sizes too big for him and weighed him down like an elephant, but... Man. He looked cool (or at least that was his opinion).
However, the head of the mutant deer did suffocate him a little, so the boy pulled it off for a moment, just long enough for Deus to whack him across the face with his tail. "Hey!"
But Braeden couldn't be upset.
There he was - Amadeus Kipling, Ravenclaw's finest, all dressed up like a giant leopard. Braeden tried his best not to, but he couldn't stop himself from doubling over in laughter. Awww mannn... that was just... too funny. Deus. In a leopard suit. He could die happy now; his life was complete.
"Sorry mate, it's just... Merlin, this is just too hilarious to handle," said the boy between laughs, wiping a tear off his right eye.

Looking over at the young girl who had spoken Sakura looked her up and down. She didn't seem too...well she looked like she would make an acceptable partner. "Like I said before, I still need one if you want to pair up," Sakura offered kindly, if disinterestedly. She was kind of hoping that everyone would have gotten into pairs or three's and the professor would let her sit this one out.
Then again if that had happened she would have probably been forced to be part of a trio. Ugh, this was already going to be bad enough. Why had she come today?

"At least I don't look as ridiculous as some people," Amadeus scoffed as he looked about the room, his eyes landing on Braeden as he placed the head of his costume back on. Smirking, he crossed his arms over his chest. "Whatever, mate. We just better win this damned three-legged race." He continued to stare around the circle of students, sizing them all up as he tried to measure who would be the fastest. Those who were tall and lanky were automatically labeled as opponents as they could take bigger strides, and those short and stocky were immediately disqualified from Deus's temporary black list.
"When shall we be starting, professor?" He turned towards the woman, an inquisitive look in his eyes. He appeared the object of innocence but inside, he was counting down the minutes until he could change back into his normal attire. This was an unusual feeling for the studious boy, but Care of Magical Creatures classes did tend to take unusual turns.
Smile "Sure!"
Never? Never done a three-legged race? Gosh, these wizards were weird. "It's easy. Here, give me that!" she said, still smiling, and took the rope. "Are you left- or right-legged?
"I'm not sure. I don't write with my legs... I'm right handed if that's what you mean?"
*He said with a small chuckle and he put his right leg out.*
Hugo hated that word... Partner. Mainly because noone liked him very much.
Kurumi was... With Eino. Adam... Was not there. Where was Fee when you needed her?
Also, no Jacky, even no Katie. He'd expect those to be lurking around. "Anyone... Need a partner?" he said, more insecure and he started to miss Fee a lot.

Haven't, just the words Patroclus was looking for.
"Well if you don't mind racing with a pair of giant gold wings, it would be awesome to team up!" Patroclus was going to give him the offer to be partners, just incase Cedric was afraid of the wings. However it had crossed Patroclus' mind that the wings would in fact me an awesome stragical tool; as they would be able to keep himself and his partner in perfect alingment, the wings would act as a brace.
Involve Patroclus in a competition, and the boy's brain was instantly filled with plans to win....

"Sure, partner!" Cedric exclaimed in utmost enthusiasm and glee almost at once. He wanted to be partnered with Prof. Saylen but seeing those enormous golden wings and all---what a funny, contagious sight! So Cedric found himself chuckling for the obvious reason that Patroclus' costume really looked somewhat hilarious yet awesome.
Distracting your opponents was always a plus and the Gryffindor's prefect's costume for one was a mere distraction.

"Which side would you like to use, Right or Left?" the Lion asked the Badger, "Or we could try both even to see which is our best fit" he grinned. Looking around Patroclus saw what was going to be Cedric and himself in a few moment, hysterically laugh knots of students.

"Yeah..." K-Lee thought for a second. "Well if we are having a three legged race, we'll need a count sort of thing, so we dont step out of count and end up tripping over. Sort of like, one count the third leg, next count the other two. If that makes sense."
"Also, what leg would you prefer tied up?" K-Lee asked, gesturing to the piece of cloth he held in his hands. She was both legged so didn't care.

Emmy looked around, as everyone else seemed to already have someone to pair up with.
But then she heard a voice asking for a partner.
She went over and tapped the boy on the shoulder.
"Hey, wanna partner up?"she asked shyly, "I'm Emmy, by the way." she smiled.

Maya was the best!
Surely they will going to nail it! Team Prefect FTW!
"Any side," Cedric replied. "Yeah, Let's try both." And then a thought , all of a sudden, occurred in his mind, "Anyway, I just so wonder, does this game only needs two people to pair up or a group of three?" He just recounted what Professor Maya had said. Three-man race or something.
Working in a group of three would make things better for three heads were certainly better than two but in a game like this where flexibility and synchronization was required well he just didn't know, it doubles the chances of tripping, stumbling and all. But as they say, the more the merrier. Cedric thought what they were gonna do was still of the party-game sort but well, he also thought this was going to be real fun!
He nodded, he was used to a family of pirates sailors... so really it was normal... they were always captains... and now Jacob was a captain, just a diffrent kind.
Wow! His whole family seemed to be in the sailing business. If that's what you would call it. "So do you like live on the ship?" That would be so cool but you would probably have to have a strong stomach. Mia remembered when she had gotten sick while out on the water but it had only happened once and that was because the waves were a little rough. "How come you're not allowed to sail your grandad's ship, if you have experience in doing it?"
She couldn't help but giggle. "I guess that's my fault. It's only your leg though that's attached to mine. Okay and your arm is around me." She supposed that would be uncomfortable. Mia didn't seem to notice.
Mia tugged on him lightly to make him stop. "We can rest for a bit of you're feeling uncomfortable. I think we have proved to the Professor that we can do this three legged thing anyway."
It was really shocking but Lucy was still without a partner. She looked around to see is there was anyone felt alone still hmm, maybe all have a pair I guess she thought and called out load "Hello, does anyone need a partner, I’m ready" she said and was still looking around.
