Annabelle walked down to COM class and walked in with a fairy costume on. She loved dressing up for classes. She had on short green dress, with gold ribbons around her waist, she had on white wings on the back. she wore white flats because she hates heels soo much. She wore green eye shadow to match the costume, and made her hair into a bun. She sat down with the others in the class and to make her presence known to the teacher she said sweetly, "Hello Professor!"

Rosa Chispa Princessa 01-22-2011 01:32 AM

Chloe made her way to the area COMC would take place. She felt a bit odd in a costume but it did make things rather interesting. She had put together her own rather colorul clown costume with wings or a little bit of a dark edge: http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/x...nerX/wierd.jpg

She made her way into the classroom areaand saw lots of strange costumes and felt a little better. But now how was she gonna find one of her freinds. She looked around but did not see anyone yet. She hoped she may come across one o her freinds soon.

Jake was all kitted out. He wore his huffie sports gear and had also inexplicably attached grey/silvery/white quills all over himself, specifically his arms.

He was a snidget.

Clearly.

Standing around awkward, Jake wondered where to sit. He felt STUPID. And he wasn't even wearing the stupid beak thing.

But his hair was sticking up on end... though he wasn't sure why...

Welcome to the first Care of Magical Creatures lesson of the term.

The class area has been slightly rearranged, and instead of seeing multiple rows of benches, the seating has been placed to form a large circle. In the middle, you will find nothing but space, which will be used alot in this class.

Lesson numero one will begin soon, so take a seat and chat with your neighbour while you wait. But make sure you don't talk too loudly or Maya won't be glad that no one hears her over the sound of your own voices.

Where is Professor Saylen? Well, she's not in a costume and currently being busy with a creature inside a covered-up crate.

» Remember to please describe what your character is wearing. You can link to a costume, like so, or explain what your character is wearing - 'She has a lion mask, yellow striped tshirt, orange pants, her fluffy slippers and a tail made of a belt... etc. This is so that Maya can know how you all look, to be able to conduct the lesson to the fullest.

Makeup is a plus, and whatever other accessories you can think of. Points will be awarded for creativity and participation. This class is not a Quidditch match, so no need to stress about answering a question first ; )

Not real shure why CoMC was in costume but likeing every class she had ever taught him he tried to go out for her thinking she would never get his outfit Panthera onca augusta " GRRRRRd Moornnning Professoooorrrr"he growled as he stretched out on one of the logs paws hanging off either side

A cat arrived. Very nice.
And also a frog. Wonderful!

Making her way to down to the grounds, Mia made sure to keep in character with her costume and she danced her way over to the Professor. "Good day to you Professor." She said brightly before turning to where the other students were sitting and decided to take a spot beside the big gorilla with the banana in his hand.

"Hello." She said to him/her, Mia couldn't tell who was under that mask, as she sat down beside them.

"Good day, Miss Gibbins. You look sparkly." Interesting choice, it would work nicely.

Emmaleigh was SO excited for the first Care of Magical Creatures class of the term. She scurried across the grounds, with her arms wrapped around her messenger bag. It was a little awkward to carry this way, but she couldn't wear it over her shoulders for fear of messing up her wings. When she finally reached the area where the lessons were taught, she smiled at the sight of the other costumes. This was so cool! She made her way over to where Kurumi was before setting her bag down and adjusting the rest of her costume.
"Hello Professor Saylen," she said to the woman, before turning the girl beside her. "Hey Kurumi," she said smiling, and upon seeing the little frog, she asked,"Whos this little guy?"

"Hello yo tou too, Miss Swynford." Maya gave her a small smile. "Nice wings."

Vashti headed down to the CoMC class area wearing her costume as the notice advised them all to. She wasn't wearing the complete costume, however, because there were some parts of it she didn't like - namely, the heels. She couldn't walk in those things even on flat ground, so there was no way in the world she could possibly wear them outside. Instead, she was wearing a pair of yellow flats with blue polka dots, which were much easier to walk in. She also had decided against wearing the silly hat thing on her head and wore instead a headband thing with peacock feathers. She'd also decided to wear navy tights under the dress in an attempt to keep warm - it was November after all, and November wasn't the warmest of months.

Peacocks weren't really her favorite animal, but Vashti thought it would be fitting to dress up as one since she'd made one in that one lesson last term. She still had that clay peacock too, as she was rather proud of how it turned out, especially given the fact that she didn't have that much talent for things like that.

It certainly wasn't hard to find the class area, considering everyone else was dressed up as well. She was just glad that the benches were arranged in a circular fashion because if she wanted to sit down, she would have to put the tail of her costume up, which would force her to sit in the back because the tail would probably block someone's view if they sat behind her. But since it was all in a circle, she thankfully wouldn't have that probably.

"Hello, Professor," Vashti greeted her with a smile before taking a seat next to someone in a gorilla costume.

"Good day Miss Greenwell. Coloful costume you have." Peacock feathers were the win.

Walking towards the grounds were their usual class takes place, Di in her owl costume found herself a seat. Not before tripping twice.

"Good day, Professor" she smiled, her lips noticeable with a hint of glittery gold.

"Hello to you, Miss Malfoy. You make a fine owl."

Seeing that everyone was settling in by now, Maya decided it was time to get the lesson started. "Allright, settle down everyone." She called out, walking out into the middle of the circle. "You all look..." hilarious "...quite wonderful in your costumes. I'm glad you all decided to dress up for the occasion." Hehe.

As she spoke, she slowly turned around so that everyone could hear her well. "Before we start, I'd like to make clear that there will be no biting, hissing or marking your territory. Whatsoever. Understood?" She raised an eyebrow, looking at them all for any hint that they'd comply.

"Today we will be discussing creatures, and how they are affected by us...wizards, muggles and those inbetween." She smirked before looking serious. "We have many creatures in the wizarding world who have to be hidden from the muggle world in order to survive... Can anyone tell me why this is? Give me one reason each please."

Meredith skipped merrily to CoMC. She was super excited of this class! She already had a feeling this was going to be her favorite! She loved animals so much! Her favorite animal would have to be a cat though. Which was why she chose a Cat costume. She was very interested to find out why they needed costume. She saw the professor as she passed she said "Hello professor!" she she with a huge smile. She took a seat in one of the chairs.

Mell 01-22-2011 01:48 AM

Mia raised her hand in the air. "Because muggles sometimes..." Well most of the time. "Tend to not understand those things that are different. It is important for us to hide our creatures because muggles would most likely set out to destroy the things they don't understand and the things that frighten them. They like to research and experiment not realising the harm that they are actually causing."

Of course they were getting better over the years but they were a long way from total acceptance.

Roselyn 01-22-2011 01:48 AM

What? She couldn't set people on fire like dragons would?

Well that failed.

Slumping on the seat, she sighed before crossing her arms and then crossing one leg over the other, glancing around at everyone seated and their costumes as she listened to the professor speak. Well, at least they weren't talking about muggles specifically like they had in some classes. There were wizards and creatures mixed in there. And when she said creatures, the professor obviously meant the awesome creatures. Like dragons. Poor dragons.

"Well for one, some creatures can be rather dangerous to muggles and they may end up...feel a bit too threatened and the creature may not make it out alive. So it'd be wise that they were hidden from them." she said after raising her hand. Muggles. So dangerous.

Jake_Lockley8672 01-22-2011 01:56 AM

"Because muggles believe that the creature we know as real are just a thing of myths,"Jamie said raising her hand. She wasn't sure if that was a right answer but it was true.

iBeJenn 01-22-2011 01:57 AM

Selena skipped into class with her penguin costume on. Yes, she was a penguin. Psh. Well, then again, it was kinda hard to skip in a penguin costume... cause you know, they waddled. But whatever. Oh, and she had an awesome fluffy green hat on to match. Heh. Yesh. Selena was looking awesome in her costume.

She waved a erm... wing? at the professor and though the professor couldn't see she had a giant smile on her face. "Huuullooo professor, how are you doing today?" Selena chirped happily as she waddled back and forth, and pushing her hat back, so it didn't fall off or something like that.

"We had no choice," Jake pointed out, just remembering to put up his hand.

Wasn't it something like you HAD to dress up or costumes would be provided? >.> rawrr.

Then he raised his hand. "Well... muggles dunno the limits and stuff all the time. I bet they think they can train dragons."

Oh yeah.

He'd seen the movies.

Walrus 01-22-2011 02:00 AM

Jacob looked around with his limited vision... Oh there was the professor. "yes, it'll be well nourishing" he said

And tried his best to get out of character, "oh hello." he said but he couldn't control himself, he scratched his head with his monkey hand.

Jacob looked up at the professor, no marking territory? But then what was the point of being a gorilla... He wanted to make his gorilla community, and make it a dictatorship... Overlod Jacob Bunt, gorilla boy. It sounded nice. "But professor... If muggles were exposed to magic as a daily thing, and the creatures that are considered magical as normal from the begining then there wouldn't be any problem with hiding them." just a simple logical statement. Oh no... He was being ravenclaw-y

Staring at the gorilla person, Mia couldn't help but burst out laughing at their antics. She covered her mouth with her hand as the person, a boy since the voice was quite deep, greeted her. "You're very good at that." Of course she meant it as a compliment.

She returned her gaze to the front of the class and listened as her fellow students gave their answers and then something occured to her and she raised her hand again. "Sorry for the interruption Professor. But are we about to start letting muggles into Hogwarts or something? This is about the third, maybe fourth class that has focused on muggles and we haven't even got Muggle Studies yet?"

Kurumi thought for a moment and tried to get into the head of her mother. What would she say if she saw, say, a dragon on her doorstep. "Professor, a lot of the creatures that are in the wizarding world are misunderstood due to Muggle fairy tales. Take dragons for example. Were the non-magical population to learn that they were real and not just something from fantasy, they would probably demand that they all be killed in order to 'protect' the general population. Or, if they learned that Dragon's blood has twelve uses, one being an extremely strong cleaner, they would probably begin hunting them to take their blood. The same can probably be said in regards to unicorns," she paused for a moment. "In history, species have been wiped out because of humans. Take the regular elephant for example. They were hunted for their tusks. Or sharks, they are killed just because they are considered dangerous."

Was it really such a bad thing that their classes were considering how the non-magical world and the wizarding world could interact? It was like a breath of fresh air to Kurumi. "Unless you are excluding muggleborns from your statement."

Ariana stifled a giggle. Marking your territory! *Giggle* She nodded quickly before she giggled again.

She raised her hand and responded to Professor Saylen. "Well, some creatures are dangerous, and without magic to subdue them, the muggles could accidendally hurt or kill them, since they'd get scared."

Raven thinking, not a lion please, he got an idea not so fine and bright but at least he has. Raising one front foot before he say. "Professor because all muggles think, yes think that magical creature is likely a myth, that can be only seen in a child story of they called fairy tale, and most of it is something like unreal to them, for example a unicorn, they believe unicorns are didn't exist, they say no horse having a wings, because wing is for birds, and horn is for bull" Raven sound comical

Rosa Chispa Princessa 01-22-2011 02:22 AM

"Well, muggles would not understand most muggle creatures. While many are aggressive beings there ar some that they are just not used to and would panic if they saw one evvenif it is not dangerous. Muggles just don't take seeing things out of their norm very well", Chloe said raising her hand up high.

Emily fidgeted in her white ferret costume... she had had to wriggle herself into it like a catapillar in a sleeping bag, and it was far too warm inside. But she pulled herself together and decided she would participate in the class.
"Professor, I believe that magical creatures need to be hidden from muggles for a number of reasons, but particularly because muggles- not being used to magic and lacking in magical abilities- would take andvantage of these creatures and thier magical properties. Whilst we use parts of magical creatures for potions etc, I don't think that muggles would be able to control or monitor how much they use, and thus this would leave many of these creatures in danger of extinction.... muggles would be too greedy."

Emily thought about all the different creatures in her head and how each of them might be targetted by muggles.

Turning her head at the sound of someone's voice, Mia gave the girl an apologetic smile. "Sorry. I may have worded that wrong. And yes I was excluding muggleborns. I meant the people who don't have any magical contact whatsoever."

Eeek! Now she wished she had not said anything at all. "I like muggles. My mother is a muggle and I live with about fifty of them. I don't have anything against them at all. I was merely curious that's all. Because last year, the only time we spoke of muggles was in Muggle Studies class. Again I apologise if I offended you in anyway."

Holmesian Feline 01-22-2011 02:33 AM

Simon smiled back at Kurumi before sitting down and turning his fill attention to Professor Saylen as she started the class for real. He listened to the question posed and thought over an answer that fit what he knew about Muggles, the rest of the class answering around him and taking some of the answers he could come up with.

"I have to agree that if they don't understand or are not exposed to magic they wont understand magical creatures and could cause harm to them either intentional or accidental."

Lockhartian 01-22-2011 02:38 AM

No. Treyen was NOT dressing up for Saylen. Merlin only knew why she wanted them to dress up in the first place...and...he had no favorite creature...so...the reason was pretty obvious.

Plus, she had failed to notify him the fact that his Niffler was now far away from Hogwarts, at a farm or something like that.

Treyen was back to disliking Saylen just for that.

And...oh, he was so glad he'd come here, because...Jake looked ridiculous, seriously, amazingly stupid. Was he supposed to be a Snidget? That's an insult to the golden bird.

But, from the back of the class, the boy raised his hand, "Lack of knowledge, as many had said, but I believe this doesn't apply to Muggles only, since we also faced extinction of one bird many years ago," cue eyes towards Jake, the Snidget, "the Snidget," he nodded, and that was all thanks to Wizards, "Which leads me to believe that perhaps humankind may think that things or creatures or anything at all could last forever."

A clear misunderstanding, since we all know that nothing lasts forever. Kingsley wasn't here anymore. Nor was Nolan. Nor his Niffler.

HaRoHeGiNeLu 01-22-2011 02:39 AM

Ellie tugged at her costume as she listened to Saylen. It was itchy, really. She hadn't thought this one through. Maybe going as a boring old crup wouldn've been more comfortable...

She put her hand up, "For the muggle to survive or the creature? Or both? Cuz, I mean, you can't just set a Basilisk loose in the muggle world." Or the wizarding, really. But that's not the point. At least wizards would have an idea of what was going on.

"As for the protection of the creature against muggles, they might be hunted down. Like a Diricawl, for example, could be hunted for its feathers." Right? Totally. Muggles even hunted their own, nonmagical, creatures for their asthetically pleasing characteristics. It just wasn't nice.

pundantic 01-22-2011 02:49 AM

Selina sat in the circle of students that were all dressed in Halloween cotsumes. Brushing a strand of her red hair behind her ear she listened as each student began to answer there questions. Looking about the group she saw many different costumes, many of which were cute and simple. She especially liked the Professor's costume. Similarily to the Professors costume Selina was being one of her favorite creatures. Trying to get a better understanding of the lesson she tucked her tail under her seat the best she could and held tight to flounder.

After a few moments of comtemplating the question Selina answered, "I supose the same reason why we keep magic a secret. Some Muggles might misunderstand the creatures. Unlike Muggle creatures they have certain abilities and things that could harm them. Also their abilities could be expolited in the Muggle World- not to say we do not do that here- but it may be worse. Imagine Dragons at the Circus. It would be a hazard."

"Danger can be an important factor, yes. And by that I assume you mean that we and our magic are the only ones who can control them...?"

"Because muggles believe that the creature we know as real are just a thing of myths,"Jamie said raising her hand. She wasn't sure if that was a right answer but it was true.

"That could be a cause, yes. Good thinking."

Then he raised his hand. "Well... muggles dunno the limits and stuff all the time. I bet they think they can train dragons."

Oh yeah.

He'd seen the movies.

Hm?
"What do you mean, 'we had no choice'? " Maya was curious now. And yes, "It is true, they can sometimes think they can handle what they do not know." Maya nodded, turning towards the next student.

She raised her hand and responded to Professor Saylen. "Well, some creatures are dangerous, and without magic to subdue them, the muggles could accidendally hurt or kill them, since they'd get scared."

"Very good reasoning. It's true we have more power over them with our magic. Something that maybe the muggles wouldn't be able to handle without."

"Are you saying muggles have less imagination than wizards?" She smirked, "Yes, I guess you could say that they do not believe in things if they are not standing right infront of their noses." Heh.

"Their norm. Well phrased." She inclined her head towards her. "We come back to ignorance, then. They do not know and therefore they are scared."

"Greedy muggles." Maya wrinkled her nose a little. "Thankyou for your input."

"Sorry for the interruption Professor. But are we about to start letting muggles into Hogwarts or something? This is about the third, maybe fourth class that has focused on muggles and we haven't even got Muggle Studies yet?"

?
The Mexicana regarded the girl for a moment, choosing her words carefully. "I...was unaware that the other Professors had been...discussing muggles." Which didn't really answer her question, but whatever. "I am trying to let you all learn about both worlds." Yeah. She gave the girl a small smile.

Dark brown eyes darted between the two girls.
Muggles. "Allright, ladies. Good to hear you being so passionate about this topic."

And then she said no more.

Oh no... He was being ravenclaw-y[/QUOTE

"Ah, interesting. Yes, that could be true. Good point."

"I have to agree that if they don't understand or are not exposed to magic they wont understand magical creatures and could cause harm to them either intentional or accidental."

He. Wasn't. Wearing. A. Costume.

Stare.

"Aha!" Seee? "Very good. The Snidget was indeed on the verge of extinction."

She nodded, but then stopped. "I have a costume for you in the box over there." Oh, he would wear one. Hehe.

"As for the protection of the creature against muggles, they might be hunted down. Like a Diricawl, for example, could be hunted for its feathers." Right? Totally. Muggles even hunted their own, nonmagical, creatures for their asthetically pleasing characteristics. It just wasn't nice.

"Why not? Why couldn't we set a Basilisk loose?" Maya arched an eyebrow at her statement. As for her second answer, "That may be so... It's a possibility."

Unlike Muggle creatures they have certain abilities and things that could harm them. Also their abilities could be expolited in the Muggle World- not to say we do not do that here- but it may be worse. Imagine Dragons at the Circus. It would be a hazard."

A huff escaped her. "Thankyou for pointing out that wizards are capable of exploiting their own magical creatures." Right? "Good points."

"Good answers everyone. It's nice to hear your view on things."

"That brings us to the next question... Do you think muggles would be allright with living with magical creatures if they knew about them? Or would they feel...inferior to them? And do you think Muggles are more prone to extinct creatures than wizards?"

The Professor started chewing her lower lip, wondering what they'd all answer. Maybe she should move this class along...
