Kyle gulped, scuttling spiders scuttled and Acromantulas scuttled very, very loudly. She nodded, looking up to the Ghost who had just glanced over to her. She was lucky not to trip, and that hand thing had just scared her - that must have been better than well giant spider fangs gnawing at her.

She gulped the image still in her mind.

She glanced over to Professor Descoteaux knowing leaving was probably the safest thing to do - but where would they go? Back to the castle, through a path full of possibly large spiders?

She waited for answers.

The thing about having a class in the Forbidden Forest? One could hear pretty much everything being said.

"It seems things aren't always what they sound," Jared grinned.

"The Comet 360?" Jared repeated. "Not to the best of my knowledge." Broomstick modification had been a trade for ages, but he had no knowledge of Disillusionment Charms being built into a regular broom. Of course, the Flying Instructor should know that kind of thing better than he did.


"The Disillusionment Charm causes colour blending," Jared agreed. "But that's not the same as the Bedazzling Hex." He paused as Kurumi asked the difference and the Hufflepuff presented his own thoughts, before proceeding to explain.

"The differences in incantations and wand movements aside, the first real difference is in the nature of the spells: the standard Disillusionment Charm, being a charm, involves no discomfort if cast correctly; but the Bedazzling Hex, being a hex, does involve minor discomfort. The Disillusionment Charm is used to blend the target into the background; the Bedazzling Hex creates an optical illusion, disturbing the vision of those that see the target so that the target can escape notice."

That was two points for Hufflepuff.

"Not known as the Invisibility Cloak," Jared corrected. "The production of Invisibility Cloaks involves a wide range of magic. Disillusionment charms are a part of this magic, but not all of it."

"Take two points for Slytherin."

Jared's gaze flickered towards the Gryffindor, making sure she was okay. Maybe he ought to have made the students come to a stop six or so feet from the stream, and not four.

Jared had not expected someone to bring the demiguise up. He smiled, the usual faint-but-there smile. "The one major difference between an Invisibility Cloak containing a demiguise's hair and the Disillusionment Charm is the effect," he said. "Invisibility cloaks make one disappear from another's sight. The Disillusionment Charm, on the other hand, does not make one "disappear" - it makes one blend in. Take two points for Slytherin."

Skilled charmsman? "Finite does the trick."

"Never try to nullify magic if you don't know its exact nature," Jared said. "Unless you absolutely have to." If, say, your life depended upon it.


Jared nodded. "Take two points each. The Disillusionment Charm is a spell that turns one into a live 'chameleon' - the target takes on the appearance of its surroundings, and so appears invisible. This means it cannot be seen, but this definitely doesn't mean that it cannot be heard and felt, and forgetting that has caused some very good witches and wizards, a huge amount of trouble." Point to remember.

"Disillusionment magic has been around for centuries. The earliest Disillusionment charms were hard to cast, short-lived and weak. There are several kinds of approved Disillusionment charms regularly used today, but the standard Disillusionment Charm is Disillusiona. There's Disillusionment charm-work here -" He looked around the place - "But of what nature, one cannot be sure. It must be remembered that there are creatures and beings other than humans that have magic." House-elves being a common example. "It's unlikely that we'll ever know all of these creatures or all the kinds of magic that exist in the wizarding world, just as it's unlikely that we'll ever know the exact reason someone -" Or something - "Decided to make use of such strong Disillusionment Magic here. In -" He broke off, as the Baron returned.

"We're moving on from this spot," Jared said. "Please pick up your lanterns -" Some of the students had placed them on the ground - "And follow the Baron."

Kurumi squeaked...loudly...when she saw the hand appear out of the water. "I-I-I-I-I-I-I-------" she stammered clinging onto Patroclus even more strongly.

"Inferi!"

No wonder they were not supposed to go near the water. And not the ghost was telling them to leave?!

Kurumi looked at the Charms Professor and suddenly felt...weak...and wobbly. Almost as if she were about to faint.

The Baron turned around.

"No," he said.

Then he began to glide again, choosing a broad path. Trees that did not grow close to each other lined each side of this path. The light of all the lanterns lit it as the Baron floated along.

Nika beamed at her professor. Two points, not much but it is something after all. Nika zoned out for a few minutes and noticed that she was starting to fall behind. She shook herself back to reality and speed walked over to Emily.

Kyle watched the Baron turn around and glide to a different path. Follow him, was her quite daringly brilliant thought that she just had. Quickly she began to follow - her lantern in her hand.

Safety, safety, safety, was circling around her mind like a broken record - well the urge to be safe.

Ellie listened with utmost interest to Little Professor's schpeil on the Disillusionment Charm. "Disillusio-"

What? They were leaving.

The redhead GLARED at the people near the water. It was all their fault. HMPH.

"In what?" He could walk and talk, couldn't he?

"Yea....in what?" Arya was so distracted by his not finishing his sentence that she hadn't even considered pushing Destiny towards the source of the noise when the school ghost had returned and told them to leave.

She did have enough sense to pick up her pace though. No way was what ever it was going to her her.

Catching Kurumi's look, Jared placed a hand on the second year's shoulder. "That could have been about any water demon, Kurumi," he said, not unkindly. She looked like she could do with some reassurance.

He hadn't been feeling like grinning a moment ago, but now Jared almost did. Not quite, though. He was responsible for the safety of all these students.

"In a few minutes, we'll be away from this place."

He hoped.

Ellie smiled at Arya. She hadn't realized the girl was so close to herself. But she was glad that at least one other person was as interested in the actual lesson as she was, and not just water demons. Which weren't interesting at all. Ellie knew, too. They'd had that Kappa in DADA her first term. Not a fun lesson. Those things were creepy.

...That sooo wasn't what he was going to say the first time. But she just shrugged and figured that when they got to wherever they were going he'd teach them how to do the charm.

She was also oblivious to the scuttling sound...which could be why she just didn't understand why they were leaving.

Oh, water demon, okay...that sounded better than an enchanted dead body. Kurumi swallowed, slowly, and tightened her grip around Patroclus and reached her free hand out for the Professor's. "S-S-S-Sorry," she whispered.

Arya made a face that clearly stated she wasn't pleased with his response.

That was not what he was going to say, but knowing that she and Ellie wouldn't be able to get anything else out of him until they had gotten out of the area, she picked up her pace again. The teen had caught a glimpse of Ellie smiling at her and returned it with one of her own.

Unlike the younger girl though, she was a bit worried by the sounds having been in the forest at night before, which was why she had moved a bit closer to the professor while they walked.

The Baron had been expecting this to happen from the moment that Ravenclaw had cast on the squirrel. He looked both cold and sullen as he chose a different path and soon, came to the edge of the forest in a shower of silver radiance.

He floated outside, coming to a halt and hovering over one of the hay bales, his luminescent eyes on the forest, as if able to see its depths.

Why was she apologizing? "It's fine," Jared said, his right hand around one of the little Gryffindor's, as his lantern floated several steps ahead of them. "It's normal to feel scared."


The ladies did not seem pleased. Jared offered both a semi-apologetic look as he, too, followed the Baron.

The path changed, and then they had arrived at the edge of the forest. The scuttling, scratching sounds seemed to fall back. He stood there, green gaze intent, making sure all of the students had stepped out of the place before he did, his lantern stationary in mid-air in front of him.

Ellie followed right behind Professer Descoteaux and the Baron as the path changed. Suddenly the Baron came to a stop. Ellie peeked around Descoteaux and saw that they were finally out of the forest. Thank Merlin too.

She was going to have nightmares tonight.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

What was this rubbish? They were out of the Forest already? But Ellie liked it in there. "Nooo, I wanna go back," she declared. Because her opinion mattered most, obviously.

Pouting, the girl finally left Little Professor's side, and sat on the nearest hay bale. She HMPHed as she placed her hands under her chin and propped her head on her elbows on her lap.

HMPH.

"Trust me, you don't wanna go back." Arya commented offhandedly. Her eyes moved from the dark forest she was mildly surprised to be out of to the tall professor. At least he was there, and wouldn't let anything happen to them.

Tugging her large gray hoodie closer around her, she decided to take a seat beside Ellie, who seemed a bit put off with us exiting. She wouldn't be acting that way if she'd been around the terms before her first.

Kyle slowly walked out of the forest sighing she stopped as she noticed that the Barron was looking at a haybale.

What was so interesting about it? She thought, wanting to be safe and not get attacked by what might be there.

Wow. After the baron heard that loud scuttling sound, he sure made sureto get the bloody hell out of the forrest. And take them with him. That was so unlike the Baron, that Benjamin was surprised to out of there so soon. Especially with the charms professor in tow. Couldn't the professor have held the thing/things off while getting them to a safer spot in the forrest? But, oh well. The journey was over for them now. He held out his wand incase anything came running at them out of the forrest and waited. He knew plenty of curses, but none of them came to mind at the moment. He was breathing heavily from the rush to get out of the forrest.

"Professor? If none of that had happene, would we still be in the forrest right now? I mean for all we know there was a scare herd of unicorns running to get out of the forrest from something that spooked them. Like those big creatures with the big ears and long snouts are afraid of mice. Now why would they be afraid of a little mouse? They make maybe a thousand of mice sized creatures, but they're afraid of one. It seems to me that we were the the big creatures running from maybe a mouse." He didn't smile a bit but kept looking back and forth between the professor and the forrest. He really didn't want thier journey over with yet.

K-Lee walked out of the forest, faster than she would have normally as she heard a strange scuttering noise. Could it have been Acromantula?

Well it didn't matter now. She was out and safe, for now... As long as whatever it was didn't come out of the forest and follow them.

Kyle was flabbergasted at what Benjamin had said. Honestly, really? She thought eyebrow raising.

"Uh Benjamin right? Wasn't that scuttling sound really loud?" She probed, her heart still racing. "I mean, we did walk past a line of smaller but still rather large spiders earlier which would only lead me to believe that there are Acromantula that live in the forest and even we couldn't fight those off." She pointed out.

That or they were very angry squirrels come to get their revenge...should have done that, stupid move earlier Kyle. Let it bite you next time, and then go to the hospital wing or drink one of your millions of disgusting healing potions...she thought feeling like yelling at herself some more.

"Professor Descoteaux, are there acromantula in the forest that you know of?" She asked, still nervous. Wait that was a question for the care of magical creatures professor right? Silly girl.

Kurumi was very appreciative of Professor Descoteaux's reassuring words. It was times like this where she didn't feel very much like a Gryffindor. Gryffindors were supposed to be brave and bold, but she didn't feel much braver or bolder than the kitten that lay sleeping against her chest in her robes.

Kurumi felt a huge wave of relief when she saw the familiar stacks of hay, but she still felt a knot in the bit of her stomach.

Everything isn't as it seems...

"Professor...did...did we really leave the forest? Or...is this an elaborate Disillusion Charm?" she whispered looking up at him.

Elle gasped and sighed in relief at the same time as she saw the trees dwindling in number. We're almost out! She almost skipped-to-the-lou, but thought of it better and controlled her urge to yelp for joy. Spiders, arachnids and acromantulas were just not her thing. Even the word creeped her out.

She grabbed her lantern and bounded out of the woods, but Elle made sure she wasn't overtaking anyone in a disgraceful manner.

"Professor, we're really leaving the Woods, right?" The redhead wanted to hear her teacher's assuring words even if she fully knew that they were heading out.

Emily walked with Nika, still staring at the path in front of her. She didn't want to trip again.
But once she heard the other students talking she looked up. They were... out of the forest? People didn't seem sure. She stayed close to Nika and the rest of the students, not wanting to move.
"We're back. Right?" she asked trying to put as much confidence in her voice as possible but there was not much there. That forest could mess with you... a lot.

"Umm, I'm sorry, but I don't really know your name. But, we had our smarts and the professor here and in there to help us fight off whatever was scurrying after us, or rather, towards us, so we could have defended ourselves. Used whatever charms and spells we know or what was taught to us and used that. All I know is that it was nice and quiet in there, and god willing, we get that chance again. I was absolutely terrified of what was in there, but my father always told me to fight. So I see what you Gryffindors have, and I know what us Slytherins have, and I'm proud to be a Slytherin." He said as he stood up, wand still in his hand, but not going to use it against another student unless they threatened him. He got closer to the forrest and yelled, "Lumos Maxima," over the trees. Yeah, he knew that the spell was over his years capabilitiess, but his father taught it to him when he was in dark open places. "Baron, do you think that we could've fought whatever was after us off?"
