Simon gently rubbed a finger over the marks, looking at his work with satisfaction as he decided what next to work with. Taking his quill first, he wrote a 6 on one end just for good measure in case one didn't reconize the meaning of the sideways V. Then returning to using his wand the Gryffindor captain cast "Colorus fulgeo blue to red" onto the actual markings so they flashed from his favorite color to the shade that with the stick's golden color that he had already made it, connected his work to his house. The boy gave it one more quick going over making sure he liked the outcome before setting it back on the desk in front of him to await the next part of class.

And then she came across one... "Er.. Satine? Assuming you meant to use your personality number," of course she did, why else had she calculated it? "Then it should be a two. You've made a small copying error with the middle name number..." Hadley said, pointing it out. Not to be rude or anything.

"You can either pick a random number that you like based off its meaning in chapters two or three of the textbook, or you can calculate one of the numbers as well." Josephina said, as she noted the girl had decided to work on one after all.

"Sure," Josephina said, as she was called over by another first year. "You can calculate one of the numbers in the textbook, or you're welcome to just pick any number that you feel like suits you and save the calculating for another time. If you'd like help with calculating or wish for me to check your work, then I can do that too." You know, cause she didn't want any of the kiddies to feel left behind just because they were young and inexperienced with Arithmancy.

"Just so you know, you've actually calculated your personality number, not Heart's desire," Josephina said, glancing over another kid's work. "Heart's desire would mean you used only the vowels."

"Yes, you've done well! Nice job," Josephina commented, as one of the kids just asked for her to check his work. Some kids just caught on faster than others.

Another small error. "Just so you know, October is actually the 10th month, so your life path number would calculate out to be seven, not six." Mmhm; in case he was interested and all.

Er ... what?! Aww ... he was so ickle though and cute!

"You don't have to use your wand, but you're welcome to attempt some decorating spells, if you'd like." Hadley suggested to the ickle cutie Ravenclaw. "If you'd like to attempt the flashing paint charm, the incantation would be colorus fulgeo blank to blank, where you just fill in the blanks with the colors you want to change. Tap the color you want to change, one complete circle to the right and then one complete circle to the left."

Yup, perfect opportunity for them to practice some charms without any pressure of doing it for a class.

Looking over the next student's work, Josephina shook her head. "Um ... your middle name actually adds up to six, not eight. So your final answer would sum 17, reduced to an 8 for your destiny number." Oh those numbers, so tricky.

"Kurumi," Josephina said quietly, as the girl seemed indecisive over numbers. "Might I remind you that your life path number should actually include your birth year for the most accurate number." Surely she wasn't embarrassed by it? It wasn't like the girl was going to be THIRTY this year or anything!!! Like her old professor was

"That goes for you too, Jaina," Hadley commented. "If you're wishing to calculate your life path number, you'd have to include the year as well."

Jamie sighed and said, "Thanks Professor." She wanted to bang her head on the table for not even being able to count the months correctly. She removed everything placed on her pretty stick and sighed. What would she decorate it with now. Seven. Seven. Seven. Jeez, she had really loved her six idea.

Salander was flipping through his textbook, looking for something to carve onto the stick. He vaguely thought of his coding his name down into numbers again but he didnt think he'd have the energy for something that complicated. Yes if one sees his full name it IS complicated <_<

He settled with having to calculate his Life path number using his birthdate. He took out a fresh parchment and started to compute:

Quote:

Birthdate: June 5, 2056

6+5+2+0+5+6= 24
2+4= 6

SIX (6): Your path will lead you to live responsibly at home and work to achieve balance between giving and receiving. This path is one of aid and service, and once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - achieving balance between giving and receiving. You're a born counselor - sympathetic and caring - which makes others seek you out for advice. Career/vocation options include any job in the service industry where you can make life more comfortable, easy, and luxurious for others, including medicine, decorating, beauty products, training animals, teaching, and counseling.

He stared the meaning. Is this thing serious-- Training animals? Apparently its never heard of his amazing reputation with animals and how most seem to want to turn him into some kind of teether. Or dinner. Or both.

And beauty products? Please dont nobody tell his mother. He'll be doomed.

"13 is actually one of those numbers that could be lucky or unlucky. It all depends on your beliefs, but miss maloney, i do believe i asked about the numbers one through nine only." she said, smiling at the young girl. Ah, she was only a first year ... So it was all well and good at this age. Now if in a couple years she was still doing the same thing, then it might be a concern.

walking toward the front corner, josephina dragged a medium-sized box toward the center of the room. "before we begin our activity, i want us, per mister uronen's suggestion," or at least she'd let him think it was his idea and she hadn't been planning it before. It was just coincidence, the box, really. "to come up and select one of these sticks and use your wands to decorate them with a single meaningful number. This could be your life path number, destiny number, or some other number that you find significant in your lives. If you want help calculating one of these core numbers i mentioned, please feel free to ask myself or one of your classmates. Feel free to use a flashing paint charm, colour changing charm, or any other charm you see fit for your decorating."

so why were they still sitting? "you may come up now and select your sticks and begin decorating. Careful though." she said, as she herself took a few steps away. Last thing she wanted was a barrage of students coming at her...

ooc reminders: Just a reminder that i should have made awhile ago: No editing! It's in my rules and pretty much every class has that rule. Don't do it. I'd rather have you make another post and then i'll merge if necessary, but please do not edit.

* have fun with this; you have until about noon est (5pm gmt) to get this done [before i'll begin the next task]; so about 24 hours
* feel free to make a graphic to show the final product with your character's decorations. Or if you don't do graphics, being descriptive with words is fine too =).

Okay, then.

Step one: make the stick prettyyyy.

Ellie took her wand from it's holster and thought about this. Color....color....color was VERY important. Should she go all 'Claw-pride-y? Or do something more Ellie-y?

OR BOTH!!

Both sounded excellent.

Salander took one of the pick up sticks and set to task of designing it. Remembering the coloring charm from DADA last term, he tried it out. "Pingo Black" he uttered as he aimed his wand at the stick. A black blob erupted from his wand splattering the entire stick with black paint. And about half his desk.

Huh. Well at least it worked he thought shrugging. Who ever says arts and crafts was a clean business eh?

He switched to a different color, then focused on creating a smaller paint blob "Pingo Green A decidedly smaller splatter came out, coloring one end of the slim rod. He repeated this a few times then gingerly picked it up. The green on black splatter rendered it to look like military camouflage. A camo stick heh.

Steelsheen 01-26-2011 05:13 PM

Post #3 (sorry for doubleposting i have to get this in now)

He lay the slim rod back down and tried to think of how he could get the number 6 onto the stick. Finally he decided to do it the old fashioned way-- write it in.

On a clean part of his desk he aimed his wand down and uttered "Pingo Silver". A silvery blob came out and pooled itself onto his desk. He then took out a regular quill, dipped it onto the silver pool then carefully drew in the number 6 on one end. Then for the heck of it, wrote in his name on the other end of the rod-- Salander.

Yeah just his last name. The stick simply wasnt long enough to contain all of it.

Starbreeze 01-26-2011 05:24 PM

Wait, it wasn't good enough, yet! Eino frowned at his shiny and flashing silver, golden, and blue stick, but it needed something else, a motif that could represent Eino and his number. A tiny little rock! The number four did include "down to earth" which was also were rocks where, on earth that is, then again many things were on earth, well just about everything other than starts, and the moon, and other planets, and space pygmy puffs. Eino drew with his wand a little rock on his stick to finalize it. When he was done he placed it on his desk and waited for further instructions.

The Professor was rather busy so Eino thought he should help his fellow classmate in her stead. "You write down your full birthday, next you add the day and the month, and convert them into a single digit. After that you do the same to the year, then you add both and convert that number into a single digit." That confused even Eino. "Here," He said showing his parchment.

What?!?! Oh great, now she'd have to start all over again!
"Have I? Thanks for pointing that out professor." Good job she hadn't put it on her stick yet.
She opened the book and flicked to her personality number.

SPOILER!!: Personality meaning
TWO (2): Appears shy and reserved; careful to remain in the background; appears neat and clean; tries to please others by being cooperative; is quiet, peaceful, and diplomatic; humble; good listener; appears artistic; can be over-critical of details; charming; not argumentative; may look as if in need of protection; will look and be uncomfortable in the limelight; can have a fussy appearance with not a hair out of place; prefers classic styles that don't draw attention. You may risk appearing too colorless to others or too inconspicuous or willing to serve as a doormat.

Right, she took it all back. There wasn't anything in arithmancy after all. That was not true, especially the 'appears neat and clean' bit.
She flicked through the pages again, until she came to the meanings of numbers.

'7 means: Analysis, research, solitude, wisdom, spiritual focus, investigative, mystical.' she read

Huh. That sumed her up as well. And this time she wasn't changing it!

She muttered a spell, and flicked her wrist in a 7 shape.
A black 7 appeared at the top of her stick. It went nicely with the red, she thought.
'Now time for decoration!'

pundantic 01-26-2011 05:32 PM

Selina stepped back and looked at her stick. It was done. The red had a glitter to it. The gold was gilded and ornate. Everything was spruced up with the smallest hint of flare. Ever part of the stick was fiery and loud. Similar to the young Gryffindor. But the softest feature of the stick was the rose train running up the side.

Rosa Chispa Princessa 01-26-2011 05:33 PM

Chloe picked up a stick from the freont of the room and then thought about what number she wanted to put on it. Her life path number, no that is too common. Expression/ Destiny number, maybe but that is not quite what I am going for. Chloe looked in her book through the different numbers and stopped as she saw Maturity number which she read shows the essence of who you truly are. She realized instantly that was the one and took out some parchment to to do the equations to find the number:

Quote:

To Calculate: Add together the month, day, and year you were born using the addition method of reducing first, then adding together.
Birthdate: 12/13/2056
[(1+2) + (1+3) + (2+0+5+6)]=[3+4+(1+3)]=3+4+4=[1+1]=2

She wrote out her life path number and now had her expression number to complete and then add it all up for her maturity number. Then there was still decorating the stick. Oh, there was so much to do and so little time.

Flipping from page to page, reading the life path number and then the heart's desire number, over and over again, the Slytherin finally settled on using the life path number. The only problem was, she didn't bring the notebook that had her calculations in it. Which meant, she had to write it out again. No biggy though. The calculations weren't difficult. She could do them in her sleep. Maybe. If her writing was eligible while she sleepwrote.

SPOILER!!: the calculations

EIGHT (8): Your path will lead you to work out the difference between money and the real value of life. You must learn what to do with your natural power and authority, but this is not an easy path. Once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - being in charge. You're a born boss and your natural power and authority cause others to look to you when a decision needs to be made. The reward or you won't necessarily be financial but may come in terms of accomplishment and legacy. Career/vocation options include any field where you can be in charge and where you can utilize your superior skill of good judgment.

Nooow she remembered that that was her life path number, because she totally thought the description git her. A born boss and had natural power and authority? Heck yes, that's probably what everyone wanted. Smiling ever so slightly, she stared at the pick up stick thing for a moment before picking up her quill...and trying to etch the number eight on one end of the stick.

Wasn't working out so well. In fact, it was bending her quill. Pffft.

Eh, she'll just ink it onto the stick. Now...STICK, you number 8! Stick to the...stick!

Hadn't she helped Evelyn with her life path number before? Josephina couldn't remember but the girl oddly enough seemed to make a rather common transcribing mistake.

"Evelyn, You've seemed to have added an extra one in there," Hadley said, as she pointed at the parchment, third line down. "So your number should add up to sixteen, not seventeen. Which reduces to seven." Hmm, that was interesting.

"All seems well except you've actually got a master number!!" Josephina said as she glanced over the boy's work. "Master numbers would be if before your final reduction to a single digit, you get an eleven, twenty-two, or thirty-three. So your destiny number is 11/2, not just a two."

Yup, she hoped that made sense anyway.

Spike nodded, as he nibbled on his lip. "I'd like to try," he said with a determined nod, curls bouncing on his forehead as his did so. "And it's probably less messy with a wand." Probably. He hadn't tried yet. And he didn't appear to be the most talented wizard when it came to wandwork.

"So, Colorus fulgeo black to green will make it flash from black to green? With the movement?" he questioned, to make sure he'd got it right. He'd heard awful, scary things about what happened when you got the pronounciation wrong. "I'll give it a go."

And with a look of concentration, and moving his wrist in alternating circles to remember the wand motion, Spike returned to his desk to do exactly that. And then he'd think about how to add his special number.

NINE (9): Expect that life won't always be easy - that's because you're learning to give up the physical world for the spiritual one and you'll have to learn to let go of loving people in order to love humanity. At the same time, your talents will come very easily to you and you may mistakenly believe that your gifts are meant to be used to achieve the easy life, when in reality, they're given so you can master this plane and move on. Your true self is both kind-hearted and altruistic, but for you to be at your best, you must practice these qualities on an impersonal level. There are two dangers that come with your talents - using them for personal gain (which can bring destruction to your life) and ignoring your sense of service. Your greatest joy is in true universal love, because with this number of reward, the greatest good will come from the greatest giving.
After finishing her calculations and writing down it's meaning she thought uh, thats interesting but if it my life then what else could be better for my stick even if it is a strange fortune. Now it was time to etch the number and color the stick. Chloe smiled. She had finally reached the fun part.

RachieRu 01-26-2011 06:05 PM

Cause you asked Jess <3 and post One

He. Had. To. Decorate. A. Stick. A stick? What. Was he like in kindergarten or something? Finlay Carmicheal really did not want to decorate a stick. It was only going to end up chucked into his trunk when the class was done, and then his mum would probably find it at christmas, and he'd have to try to remember why on earth he had a decorated stick in his trunk. But....maybe he could like give it to his sister. He was sure she'd enjoy to pretend that the stick was a a wand or something. Hence why he was now sat at his desk, with a stick, and was now kind of staring at it.

First he needed to get a number that he would use to decorate the stick. He really didn't care which one he used, so he just decided that he would use the heart's desire number, if he could manage to work it out. He thought he'd be able to do it though, so everything would probably be okay.

SPOILER!!: calculations

1 + 2 + 7 = 1 + 0 = 1

So. His heart's desire number was 1. Before he decided to start decorating that onto his stick, he was going to check out what it meant, so that like he'd be able to tell people about it? That would be quite good right? Hmm. He wanted to lead more than anything? Well he was prefect so he decided that was pretty true, and he definitely thought he was independent. So maybe this was pretty good then.

Now Finn had to decorate the stick. That should be fun. First he needed a color. He probably shoudl've gone for ravenclaw colors, but everything he had was like blue, so he decided against that idea, and instead went for a nice green color; seeing as he did like slytherin's at the moment. "Pingo Green." He pointed his wand, carefully at the stick, and was quite happy when only the the stick went green. That was good, because well he didn't want blue and green robes at the moment.... Now to decide what color he wanted the 1 to be.

Rosa Chispa Princessa 01-26-2011 06:19 PM

This my 3rd post

Chloe quickly etched the number 9 into her stick and now it was time to add a little color. "Coloros Fugleo pink and yelow", she watched as the colors appeared on her stick and smiled at the finished product:

I know it is quite a crude picture for this but here it is:

HaRoHeGiNeLu 01-26-2011 06:28 PM

Purple and bluueee. Definitely. And Ellie could SO make them work together without clashing.

Hopefully.

If not, it was just a silly Arithmancy assignment anyway.

She pointed her wand at her stick, "Colorus fulgeo pretty purple to pretty blue," tap, circle, circle.

Bwaha. Success.

Ellie beamed at her pretty only-kinda-sorta clashing stick. But who caaarress. At least the clashing colors were PRETTY and not like...orange and red. Bleh.

Now for her number.

She had NO idea how to go about this, really. But she glanced over at Salander and his 'pingo'ness. That was...pretty smart, she thought. It was always a good idea to copy learn from older students. Yup.

The young girl pointed her wand at her desk, intending for just a small, little amount of paint, "Pingo bronze." Bronze for Ravenclaw, of course. And she smiled as a little ball burst into a little lump of paint. Heh.

She dipped her quill into it, and wrote a '7' on one end of the stick.

Done and done.

L, N, V, G, R, S, C, B, D

(4*3)+(2*5)+(1*4)+(1*7)+(2*9)+(2*1)+(1*3)+(1*2)+(1 *4)= 52
5+2 = 7

Birth day number (day added):
2 + 6 = 8
Luin calculated a few pf her different numbers, noticing 8 came up a few times. She shrugged though, 7 did come up and it was her personality number too. She smiled, happy that it would still work for her. Even six came up as her destiny number. She looked up at the professor, "I have calculated all these numbers and 7 seems to be my personality one, but I have noticed 8 coming up a lot. Should I take that into consideration with my stick at all? I've already decorated with 7."

And then she came across one... "Er.. Satine? Assuming you meant to use your personality number," of course she did, why else had she calculated it? "Then it should be a two. You've made a small copying error with the middle name number..." Hadley said, pointing it out. Not to be rude or anything.

Satine glanced up with a smile and then cocked her head to the side. "O no..." she said glancing at her notes..."I'll give it another go then..." she said grabbing a pencil and recalculating.

She quickly recalculated it and realized she was right it was a 2. "O thanks professor."

She grabbed her stick and squished up her face concentrating on somehow making the five into a two. With a flick of her wand, her stick was fixed and now had the right number. She flipped through her notes to check out what a 2 Personality Number meant.

Hmm. Now he had to like think of a color that would go with green. Actually he had a feeling that silver would probably would, because well that was the colors of slytherin right? Although maybe people would think he was a snake then, apart from the fact that he had a big blue badge on his robes, clearly showing the entire school that he was in ravenclaw.
Hmm. So, maybe he'd decorate the now green stick with some random silver dots, that could work, it would look pretty right? Well cool at any way. "Pingo Silver." He spoke this time, pointing his wand, and hoping that it would come out as a little silver blob, because he really didn't want to have to deal with a silver desk, although that would be pretty cool.

Thankfully it did come out as a nice little silver blob, and Finlay picked up his quill, and began to poke little silver dots onto the green stick. Well didn't this look all fine and pretty. Maybe he'd give it to Ara, he was sure she'd like a present.

"Evelyn, You've seemed to have added an extra on in there," Hadley said, as she pointed at the parchment, third line down. "So your number should add up to sixteen, not seventeen. Which reduces to seven." Hmm, that was interesting.

o__O!

...

"Yea, I uh...did that on purpose." she muttered, scratching out the lines and starting again. "You know, keep you on your toes and all."

Grin.

Right. So perhaps her work could be better if she did sleepwrite. Merlin that was a horrible mistake. No matter! She could just, cross out the eight on the stick. MWAHA! Or cover it up with a color. Putting the stick aside, she started on the new calculations. Which, of course, ended up being seven, like Professor Hadley had said. Whyyy did she not bring the notebook that had all her calculations in it already? Would have saved time and been so much easier. No wonder that information about eight kinda seemed off.

Alright, and now to fix that eight on the stick. Pfft.

With a flick and jab of her wand, not quite doing the color changing spell that was taught in charms but one of her own, she had a nice Slytherin looking candy cane in her hand, without the sweetness. Nope, it was definitely non-edible now. And with a quick scratch of her quill, she had the number 7 where the 8 used to be.

Final step? Definitely.

With a complete circle to the right with her wand, and then a complete circle to the left with the words "Colorus fulgeo silver to green" she had a nice flashing Slytherin candy cane stick.

Finally she was done!
Emily picked up her stick, and admired her work.

Her stick was blood red, with a black 7 at the top. She had also written 'wisdom' down the side. She had added a colour-change charm on the words, so it changed from being glittery black, to dark red, to dark blue, to purple, then back to a glittery black.

Yep, nice and dark, just how she liked it. It wasn't the best stick, but Emily didn't like things that were too decrotive. Plain and simple was her favourite. And red!

Okaay. So This nicely decorated stick was nearly done. It was nice, colored green and silver, and totally looked epically like it belonged to Slytherin, which was probably bad cause of like house pride, and everything. But then he didn't really care, so like he would continue on with his slytherin inspired stick.
Although he wasn't too sure what color he wanted to do his number. Wait. He'd forgotten what his number was now? He placed his quill onto the table, why he tried to remember what his number was. Waiit. Oooh. It was a one. But he still had to decide what color he wanted to use. Which was kind of annoying.

Maybe Finn would decided to use blue, because then at least it would kinda look like he had thought of his house during this task. "Pingo Blue." He pointed his wand at the table again, making a nice blue blob appear next to the silver one. Picking up his quill again, he dipped it into the blue, and drew a 1 carefully onto the top of the stick. There. He had a nice green stick, with silver dots, with a blue 1 on the top. Epic skills Mr Carmicheal.

Satine glanced in her notes to check out the new personality number...2...

Quote:

You strive to appear positive, upbeat and free from any misconceptions that other may have of you. You seek popularity and the approval of others. People see you as kind and helpful and sometimes you are taken advantage of. Some people will become jealous of you and try to bring you down.
She shook her head at the explanation...it wasn't as exciting as what she had thought her original number was but this one worked..well...everything but the last part about jealous....she was pretty sure no one was ever jealous of lil o purple haired Satine....she was always a very optimistic and welcoming person...and quit often too nice...she did sadly seek approval of others although she was usually invisible. yes that was her....the last sentence did still eat at her.

She glanced back at her stick and did one last check to make sure that it was good to go.

SPOILER!!: Amazing New Numbered Stick =0]

She smiled up at the professor and said one more time, "Thanks for pointing that out professor...this number really does fit me perfectly."
