It is also associated with Yggdrasil, which we discussed earlier, Odin hung from it before spying the runes we know." Kurumi paused for a moment and looked down at the old book on her desk. "Some also say that Ansuz is associated with The Hierophant in tarot, which represents communicates spiritual knowledge and wisdom and therefore the introduction of runes to the common folk."

She nodded, that was somewhat why she guessed that, "I did originally believe it to be Kenaz because of it being known as the discovery rune, ..although technically Orin did discover them."

Truebridge listened to all the answers and discussion before responding. The question was which rune most represents the discovery of the runes, so I am looking for one rune in particular. That rune is Ansuz but there are some interesting justifications about Dagaz and Kenaz and so, I shall award some bonus points." He paused.

"Three points for Ravenclaw for getting Ansuz first, plus an additional point for justifying Kenaz as a possible answer, Two points for Gryffindor for Kurumi and Simon's justification of Ansuz, and an additional point for Gryffindor for Chloe's Dagaz suggestion. One point for Slytherin for," He paused to remember, matching the face with the class list, "Feenella's Kenaz explanation."

He tapped the board and it updated.

"Next question, For First, Second and Third years only and worth three points, What is the name for the group of gods that rule earth, nature, fertility and the subconscious?"

Zebragirl 02-15-2011 09:59 PM

Emily quickly raised her hand
"The Æsir or eye-seer isn't it?"
She wanted to be right!

Yourenodaisy 02-15-2011 10:01 PM

"No, actually." Truebridge answered. Its a different group of gods." Almost a trick question really. Still, he made note of the effort.

"Thats right the Vanir, Three points for Hufflepuff."

Next one then.

"For the Fourth and Fifth Years, And worth three points, What is ‘Freya’s Tears’ another name for?"

Roselyn 02-15-2011 10:09 PM

Aw right, question for the younger students. Tapping her quill on her desk, having not really used it for the whole lesson, Evelyn snapped her gaze back to the Professor when he asked one for the fourth and fifth years. Meep! "Amber." she said, after raising her hand.

Raising his hand Salander replied "Gold Professor?" Then he looked at Evelyn. Errr... yeah maybe that too?...

"Right again. Three points to Slytherin." Truebridge gave the briefest, approving little nod in Evelyn's direction and then continued on.

"Sixth and Seventh years, for the last three point question, What is a feathercoat?"

StarShine 02-15-2011 10:18 PM

He wasn't sure at all, but he raised his hand nevertheless.

"It transforms the wearer into a bird."

"Absolutely right, Evan. Three more points for Slytherin."

He marked that up. "We're going to take a quick break and then start on the last round of questions, which are worth five points each. Does anyone have any questions about the questions and answers so far?"

ooc: If your character is curious to know more about anything that has come up in the quiz questions, now is the time to have them ask.

Nika sighed. She had way too many questions. She just added to her notes and watched the professor curiously. Maybe she could get one of the next questions right.

Holmesian Feline 02-15-2011 10:32 PM

"A magical item belonging to Freyja that Loki used to turn himself into a falcon to retrieve Thor's hammer," he offered after raising his hand.

Slightly embaressed about getting an answer wrong, Emily's confidence in this class had shot down. She had studied so hard as well!

There was one question she didn't know. Normally she woudn't have asked and instead looked it up in the library but she knew it would bug her for the rest of the lesson. Better get it over with...
"Professor, what actually is Baldr’s Bane?" she said in a quiet voice. Now she felt stupid. Great!

Taking a deep breath, Evelyn slumped in her seat some to relax, letting her breath out slowly as she started to doodle on her notebook page. Again. And what else to doodle than Dragons? Or...

No, she had a question. Raising her hand, she waited to be called on before asking. "I have a question, Professor." she said, letting her quill drop to her desk before continuing. "The last question about the feathercoat. If there is something such as cloak of invisibility existing, could there be a cloak or something that...transforms people into birds, or some other form of animal? Is that even possible?"

"Professor, what actually is Baldr’s Bane?" she said in a quiet voice. Now she felt stupid. Great!

"Baldr's Bane is another name for mistletoe. Baldr once had a dream of his death and because dreams are prophecy for the Norse gods and goddesses, his mother made every object on earth promise not to hurt him. Everything in the world made that promise except for mistletoe, who Frigg, Baldr's mother, did not ask. Loki heard this and had a magical arrow, or in some recountings it is written as a magical spear, made from the mistletoe and joined the other gods in their latest game.

This game consisted of the gods hurling things at Baldr because it was amusing to see things bounce off of him without hurting him. Loki gave the mistletoe missile to Höðr, Baldr's blind brother, who killed Baldr with it, inadvertently."

Truebridge explained in his usual patient way, "Bane is of course another word for death, destruction, ruin, poison, or a thing that causes death or destroys life. Mistletoe causing Baldr's death is why it is also known as Baldr's Bane."

Of course there was more to the story, but that was enough of it to answer her question thoroughly.

"Yes it is possible but the magic to do so is supposedly lost. Think on it. One can charm a... canary cream, for example, and eat that and turn into a giant canary. The difference with the feathercoat is that its user would still keep his or her own mind, the feathercoat would effect their outer self but they would not have the mind of a bird. As with many lost magic, it is theorized that such things are achieved with a combination of spell work and runework, just like the very wards in the foundations of Hogwarts." Was that enough of an answer? He smiled at Evelyn a bit absently and then got ready to continue the lesson.

"Any more questions or are you all ready to continue with the five point round?"

"The first five point question, open for everyone, Which runes does Zisa rule over? name the runes please." Truebridge waited to hear the answer.

RedRabbit 02-16-2011 09:48 PM

"Zisa rules over war, competition, conflict, battle, strategy and tactics with Tyr?"
*Matty said putting up his hand.*

"I think the rune is called... Tiwaz?"
*Matty said knowing that he had forgotten something.*

TeafortheSoul 02-16-2011 09:55 PM

Jim stuck his hand up. "Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Ingwaz, Dagaz aaaand Othala." Right? Right.

Truebridge listened. "With Tyr yes, but I'm wanting the names of the runes. Tiwaz is one, so I'll give Hufflepuff one point."

"Right. Those are the runes that Zisa rules over, the runes of the third aett. Five points for Ravenclaw."

And next question.

"For everyone, worth five points, Which figure in Norse Mythology has nine mothers?"

Felixir 02-16-2011 10:06 PM

Jake could only eye the board with a little smile on his face. He'd long given up on answering; it meant too much focus. Focus he didn't have. As well as reading skills he didn't have.

Fun to watch though, and if he caught a question, he'd give it a go.

Like this one? Jake raised his hand.

"Heimdall?"
