First lesson since his most recent return to Hogwarts and Ethan Truebridge was sitting at his desk in the front of the classroom, a magical gramophone sat on his desk, the soundtrack of Les Misérables playing quietly.
The blackboard was apparently 'singing' along, as the words were sung on the record, in runic the translations appeared on the board and then disappeared again moments later.
Truebridge ignored it and kept his hazel-green eyes on the door, watching as the students began to file in.
"Sit wherever you like. Four to six people at each table if you please."
SPOILER!!: classroom description
The classroom is bright and airy, very clean and comfortable. There are no desks in this classroom, rather there are several wooden tables which would fit between four and six students quite comfortably. The tables are arranged rather higgledy piggledy, all out of alignment with each other and yet there is plenty of room to weave through the tables and walk up to the front of the classroom, or down to the back.
The front of the classroom has a large blackboard, charmed to write on itself, and when it isn't taking notes it quite often it has something to say, though you'll need to transcribe it from runic to English to make any sense of it. Truebridge also has a desk at the front of the class, set to one side, and a perfect view of all the tables arranged haphazardly around the room.
At the back of the classroom, set to one side, there is the door out into the corridor. Along the back wall there is a large bookshelf almost overflowing with books, mostly old, all very well taken care of. You're welcome to look at any of these books but if any harm befalls the tomes, there will be a severe price to pay. A long and comfortable couch takes up the rest of the back wall.
The windows along the remaining side, opposite the door and Truebridge's desk have soft white curtains that are almost transparent. When pulled they simply diffuse the light and ensure it is not too bright, allowing the room to stay bright and lit at all times. The window frames are the most interesting, if you go and inspect them, all of the exposed wood has been painstakingly carved with runes, mostly bindrunes and rune charms, set in ligature and carved then stained red. These have all been activated and almost thrum under your fingertips. No cold will pass these windows, no student will fall to their deaths. It is a barrier of safety and of comfort, and a good example of runic magic. The door into the classroom is similarly marked.
ooc note: Please note that class has finished. The thread will be open for a short time longer to allow everyone to complete the last task. Please read the following posts to catch up with the lesson, or the latest one if you wish to jump in on the current activity/question. Not all of Truebridge's posts are included here, just those relevant to the progression of the lesson.

She looked back over at Jim only to feel her heart drop. He was actually leaving and the only person he looked at was Lexi. Right, obviously the girlfriend was the invisible one here. Why should she know anything that was going on?
She watched as he walked out the door. She was tempted herself to follow him and make sure he was alright but knew she couldn't. She was already behind in the class and she needed to learn all she could if she was going to pass that blasted OWL.
Turning back she seen Neptune leaving too. Great, she was probably going to follow Jimmy and continue whatever it was they had going on here.
Sinking back into her seat and closing her book Marie didn't even bother answering the question Truebs had asked. Then again, she didn't even remember what it was. She really didn't care much now, she just wanted class to be over so she could find Jimmy.
Yeah, she was gonna be pretty useless in this class now.

"No Salander, I can't say I know why the tree likes chocolate, but the mooncalf dung is fairly obvious." He paused. "It's a particularly excellent fertiliser."
And ah. Tiwaz?
"I too would like to see your grades up." Truebridge responded. "And Tiwaz would help you to strengthen your resolve to do so, and perhaps compete against your classmates too."

Truebridge walked over to Marie and quietly, without a word, opened her book to the correct page again. He tapped the page and stepped away.

"I shall teach you both and you can practice whichever you like. We'll practice on spare pieces of wood and when you are confident of which method you prefer, we'll work on the tables." Truebridge conjured a piece of wood and simply duplicated it, passing it out by charming one piece to float over to each student and come to a gentle rest on the table in front of them. "Please collect some gloves and goggles from this box here. You must wear these." He summoned a box and placed it on his desk. Eh. If it were up to him he'd let them go to it without worry about protective gear but apparently parents got jumpy about such things these days.
"We'll begin with the magical method. Some of you may remember a similar sounding spell from a class I taught on Kappa a few years back. The incantation is 'Intaglio', and the wand movement is simply moving your wand against the surface exactly where you wish to cut. The trick with the intent here is that you need to keep in mind the rune you are attempting to carve. Concentrate on the meaning and on the name of the rune, repeating it over and over until you are done. For example, if I wished to carve Uruz, I would touch my wand to the wood, and say' Intaglio Uruz uruz uruz uruz uruz...' until I have completed the shape of the Uruz rune." He paused.
"So the incantation and the intent changes as you carve different runes. Is that understood? You may practice on the pieces of wood I handed out just now, but you may not cut into the table yet. Furthermore, you'll find that the worst that will happen as far as injuring yourself goes, is a cut and a bit of blood, you certainly won't severe a finger or anything of that sort. It isn't that sort of spell. But of course you'll all be particularly careful won't you? "
ooc: going to leave it here for a bit. Feel free to practice the spell and carve up your bit of wood. Anyone not wearing the provided gloves and goggles will be in a lot of trouble IC. Truebridge will be around to check people's work and provide help. Remember, no carving the table just yet.

After picking up a piece of wood and a pair of gloves, Kurumi began to return to her seat when she felt a knot form in her stomach as she remembered nearly setting her desk on fire last term in Transfiguration. A carving spell wouldn't set things on fire, would it?
Setting her piece of wood on the table, Kurumi flipped through her textbook for what looked like was the simplest of the runes to try out first. "OK, Kenaz it is," she said to herself. No argument there. Taking a deep breath, Kurumi pointed her wand at the wood and first just went through the movements of the spell without saying anything aloud. After a few practice runs like thing, Kurumi took another deep breath. Here goes nothing. "Intaglio Kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenaz kenazkenaz kenazkenaz kenaz..." Things were going smoothly, until that last kenaz when Kurumi's piece of wood shot off from her desk, smacked right the chalkboard, and went shooting off back towards the class. Hopefully it wouldn't hit anyone...Kurumi couldn't deal with more drama at the moment...
Kurumi's head shot around and searched the sky for the piece of wood. "W-W-Watch out!" she whimpered.

And what was even worse was that Finn, Sal, Marie and the little first year was all sitting with her so she was going to look like an absolute moron if this went wrong.
She put the gloves on her hands and the goggles over her eyes and then picked up her wand. "Be good to me." She murmured quietly giving her wand a little shake and then turning back to the piece of wood.
Sweeping her wand over the wood, Mia said the incantation. "Intaglio...Thurisaz...Thurisa...Thuris...Thuri... Thur...Thu...Th..." Yes it hadn't taken long and her mind had began to wander off and she was losing her focus. Ironic that she was trying carve a rune that is supposed to help with concentration and she was losing hers very quickly.
With a frustrated little grunt, Mia stabbed her wand at the piece of wood and sparks flew out of the end of it.
Ooops.

And Tiwaz for strengthening resolve and compete. he nodded his head. Right. Compete. And suddenly theres an evil cackle somewhere echoing in his head.
He turned his head towards Jimmy and the blond Ravenclaw girl go back and forth and then asked to be excused. Dang... Dramatitis. Ridiculously contagious it looks it. Maybe he ought to touch base with Jimmy later, never knew him to lose his cool like that.
His attention returned to Truebridge as he began to demonstrate the spell. He then reached out for several protective gears and distributed them to their group, handing one directly to Marie. It was then when he noticed the change in her demeanor. Gone was her smile from earlier, now she was moping, much like he was.
He missed something again didnt he?
He slapped the protective gears on and focused on his piece of wood "Innntaaglioww Teeee-wazzzzz " he uttered, repeating the spell as it carved out a straight vertical line, wood shavings curving up and falling out as he goes. But some commotion up front distracted him, moving his goggles up to have a better look. Seems like Kurumi was turning her piece of wood into some kind of rocket, since it looked to have smacked a fellow Gryffie in the head.
And for the first time since the class started, his mood began to lighten, snickering at the chaos of the young Gryffindors. But he just about missed Mia muttering beside him, sparks from her wand falling into his work area....
Suddenly he could feel heat and a strange popping sound. He looked back down at the work area, and saw the wood shavings were on fire.....
THE WOOD SHAVINGS WERE ON FIRE!!!
He gasped at the small blaze that started to spread. "A-A-A-Aguamenti!!!" he blurted, dousing the fire out.... and just about everybody else on their table.
Oops.

Arya was perfectly content with repeating the incantation to the tune that Sabel had created. Her voice wasn't as loud as his was, her thoughts distracting her enough to keep her from allowing it to rise any higher than it already was. There was only just enough concentration for her to spare to focus on her rune. It, however, was not enough to make her rune...look like an actual rune, and after a long moment of repeating Ehwaz, she hesitantly stopped to stare at her carving. A slight frown crossed her expression as her focused slowly centered on the carving. "Runes don't have curves do they? I don't think so..." She was speaking to Sabel, though her eyes were on the wood in her hand. "I think I might need a new piece of wood."
He was still singing his tune when Arya spoke and while he lowered his wand and stopped his incantations, he didn't stop his on-the-spot-dancing to the beat still running through his head. Peering over her shoulder, he examined the wood, reaching out to trace his fingers over the mark. "Personally, I think it's beautifully unique."
His eyes went back to his own, which was pretty much complete save for needing a bit more of a deeper imprint. With a smile, he picked it up and held it next to Arya's, noting the similarity in the curves of their runes. Was that what happened when you created something to the same beat? His grin only widened as he considered what the runes meant when they were side by side. "Together, we have created the intention of bringing about something wonderful and focusing energy to banish the negative and make room for change." 'Gaudium et Spes' indeed.

Evelyn didn't really care which method he would teach them first, but she knew she pretty much wanted to do this task without magic. Though if she got to use magic in the beginning well then...that was just a bonus. Being restricted from using it over the summer, she was quite antsy to do some spells.
Waiting until most of the people had gotten their protective gear, since there would be less people to get close to that when she herself got up, the Slytherin was just about to get up and go get a pair herself but, Salander had already done that apparently.
Muttering a 'thank you' to the older Slytherin, Evelyn took a pair of gloves and eye-wear before settling down in her seat, making herself comfortable and sliding on the gloves, all the while keeping an open ear for what Professor Truebridge was saying.
Staring down at the piece of wood in front of her, the teenage girl pulled out her wand and tapped it against her hand, thinking of which rune she should carve into it. Why not her favorite? Thurisaz? However, before she could even begin to think of the incantation, a sudden blur caught her off guard as her gaze snapped up to the moving thing in the air, causing her eyes to widen. What in the world was that!?
Staring at the moving piece, in a moment, it clicked in her mind that it was a wooden board much like her own, except hers wasn't connecting with a Gryffindor's head at the moment. She couldn't help but snort at that actually. Hehe, what!? It was FUNNY!
...wait. Fire. FIRE! FIRE!! Lookit it!
"NOOOO!" she whined rather loudly, watching the flames disappear under the water being conjured from Salander's spell. Alright, so she was upset the beautiful flames disappeared...and she was also upset that now her lap was getting drenched. Stumbling out of her chair, the Slytherin scoffed, glancing down to her wet front...
Before glaring at Salander that is. This...was his fault. He could have totally let the fire be.

Kurumi looked up from her holding of the handkerchief ice pack to see that Salander had managed to catch his piece of wood on fire. Well, that answered her question earlier about whether or not this carving charm could cause the wood to catch on fire. Who needed Incendio when you could start a fire with Intaglio?
Then, Kurumi got doused in water. Lots of it. Her bangs became plastered to the front of her face covering her eyes and her shoe started making a squishy noise. Did any body have a towel?
Still, instead of getting angry, Kurumi found herself laughing. First class of the year and complete chaos was breaking out. It felt good to be back at Hogwarts.
"Perhaps, I should have carved Ur instead," she laughed picking up her piece of wood. "Seeing as it is a rune that represents water, maybe it could have prevented this." She parted her soaked bangs and looked up at Salander. See, everything could have some educational value.

BEST.LESSON.EVER.
Patroclus opened his page and started to browse the runes on offer, "I feel like a kid in a candy shop," he whispered to Destiny as he scanned the the various affects and attributes of the runes.
A sneaky thought crept into his mind, and it made selecting the runes extra easy, "Professor I would suggest Wunjo and Dagaz!" Patroclus smiled, pointing silently to Destiny, that it would mean that there desk would be inscribed with Runes that greatly ressembled P and D! Why was that imporant?
Patroclus and Destiny of course!
"Wunjo, would be effective because the rune promotes Achievement, Success as well as Motivation. All things a student would wish to get out of their education! Cause who doesn't enjoy the satisfy feeling of completing something!" Patroclus was stubborn when it came to get jobs down, so this Rune was perfect for him.
"Then with Dagaz, it's all about clarity, and awareness. It would help a student to focus, leading to positive outcomes!"
P and D! Best Runes Ever!
Right.
It didn't seem like Patroclus got the hint behind her staring. Perhaps he wouldn't notice if she slowly reached her hand over and pulled the badge off of his robes? Just about to reach out and make a quick grab for it, her eyes widened when he mentioned giving her a KISS..if they weren't in the middle of a classroom.
Just about to open her mouth and tell him that she would rather him let her wear his Prefect badge, Truebridge started to speak in all that rune language and..she had no idea what was going on. She was just a liiiittle too distracted to answer any questions. Not that she knew the answers anyway. Not that she needed to know them. Patroclus seemed to know what he was talking about.
Totally oblivious to the rune meanings that he was speaking of, she went back to staring at his badge.
Pleeeeeease!!!

Pffft.
She would just have to wait until after class to steal ask to wear it. Turning her attention to Truebridge and trying to understand what was going on, Destiny went up to the front and grabbed a pair of gloves and SWEET LOOKING goggles for herself and Patroclus. MAYBE if she was nice to him he would let her wear the badge!?
Skipping Walking back to their table, she placed the gloves and goggles in front of him and after giving a rather cheesy grin, she turned to the board in front of her. Ehh, she remembered that DADA class Truebridge was talking about. Where they had to carve their name in that cucumber and how that unknown Denise person kept messing with her head.
Still never found that girl.
With her goggles and gloves on, she pulled out her wand and leaning in reaaaaaaaal close to the wood, she placed her wand against it. "Intaglio Raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho raidho."
Hmm, would this spell work on clothing!?
Like that muggle man Zorro.

Emily got up and got some gloves and goggles out of the box.
She was just so excited to be finally doing magic!
She learned close to the wood with her wand, took a deep breath and muttered "Intaglio Thurisaz Thurisaz Thurisaz Thurisaz..."
Not much was happening, it wasn't looking much like a rune yet. She would have to try again.
"Intaglio." Heather said. "Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo, Wunjo...." Heather successfully carved the rune into her piece of wood. "Intaglio Ansuz, Ansuz, Ansuz, Ansuz...." Another one done. She did the same with 'Mannaz' and then decided three was enough. "How is this, Professor?" Heather asked.

Cassie had been wide awake at five am but that was because she had to job each other and be back in time to get ready for class. It was a routine she had comfortably fallen into over the years. Well the jogging started in her third year but still. In any case she was still excited to start classes, especially since this was her first year taking runes.
She covered her mouth to stop a chuckle from coming out. Yep Ethan was extremely sleepy and funny. She leaned in closer to him as he spoke as well as if sharing secrets." How do I do it? Well for the most part I go to bed early probably by ten or so because I know I have an early start each morning." she realised that the boy was still struggling with sleep and this time did not try to hide her chuckle as he took her hand and shook it." Pleasure Ethan.Maybe you should think about going to bed early tomorrow as well?" sometimes boys needed girls to give them good advice and direction. Merlin only knew what would happen if girls weren't around. So he didn't like Runes eh? Well she didn't know if she liked it or not considering the fact that this was going to be her first runes class." Really? Well this is my first time taking the class, so I'm coming in with a some what opened mind. Hopefully I won't suck at it."
She looked up when she felt the presence of someone else at the table. Another boy, also easy on the eyes. She smiled at him and sat upright again. It wasn't exactly polite to be having whispered conversations when someone else was at the table." hello." she said greeting the new comer. She then looked between the two for the resemblance as the exchange between them indicated that they were brothers. Ethan introduced her and once again she extended her hand." charmed. Its interesting that your name is Dozer, yet its your brother who is threatening to dose off any second now." she looked back at Ethan with a playful smile.

Patroclus may have been pointing at the runes for Destiny to look at, but it seemed that she had other plans.
To the Lion it seemed that either she was asleep with her eyes open, or that Destiny was rather entranced by his badge. Deciding on the latter, a small smile splayed across his lips as the thought occurred to him that he could have some fun with this. Rolling his neck and then his shoulders Patroclus gave a huge stretch, with his arms over his head and his chest puffed out, puffed out just so that his badge was mere centimetres from Destiny’s face.
However just as it got extra close, the boy snapped his arms back down. So close yet so far, my little D, he grinned to himself.

ooc: going to leave it here for a bit. Feel free to practice the spell and carve up your bit of wood. Anyone not wearing the provided gloves and goggles will be in a lot of trouble IC. Truebridge will be around to check people's work and provide help. Remember, no carving the table just yet.

After had Truebridge given his instruction and then the incantation, Patroclus made to get up and grab himself and Destiny some goggles, gloves and wood, but it seemed that she had beaten him too it. Watching as she placed them before him Patroclus smiled, “Thank you Miss Shepard,” his hands closing around the safety gear, “I would have got them for us!” he added, wanting to let her know that he was planning on being a gentleman before she got them.
Watching Destiny start on the piece of wood, Patroclus took up his wand and had a go too, “Intaglio Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo Wunjo” and as the rune began to become visible in the wood, Patroclus was taken by another idea. “I think I should I take this off,” he stated, his fingers heading to his badge, “Don’t you? I don’t want it to get scratched.”
He left his fingers hanging on the badge, a sheepish smile on his face whilst he waited for Destiny’s reply.
*Sitting near by Matty felt a small spark on the back of his neck.*
"Ow-"
*It felt like a bug bite and he slapped the spot. Turning he saw a very worried Mia.*
"I'll be right back."
*He told Lea. Getting up he went and sat next to her.*
"Your over thinking again. Just relax... lightly run your wand over the wood. Look-"
*Pulling out his block of wood with the rune on it he showed her how he did it.*
"Now you try."

Oops.
Too busy worrying about trying to get her wand to work right and actually carve a rune into the piece of wood, Mia had not watched where the sparks from her wand had flown off to.
That was until she looked up at the sound of Matty's voice and gave him a weak smile. "I don't think that I am overthinking it. I am not thinking at all. That's the problem. I can't keep my focus, my mind tends to wander halfway through saying the incantation."
She watched as Matty demonstrated the correct way of doing it and was just about to attempt it again when Sal started yelling about a fire.
EEEK!!!
She had done it again. Mia was just about to push her chair away from the desk when suddenly she was drenched with water. She sat there for a moment blinking a couple of times, trying to figure out what had happened when she saw Sal standing there with his wand out and realised that he had put the fire out.
Mia slumped down in her chair. No point in telling the Slytherin off for wetting her seeing how it was she that had caused the problem in the first place.
"Er...maybe I should try the other way of carving a rune into the wood."
Emmy grabbed a piece of wood, donned her gloves and goggles, and sat down.
What should she carve? Which rune to use? Decisions, decisions...
After several minutes of intense consideration, she decided upon Gebo, as one of it's uses was to find or strengthen a relationship.
Setting the very tip of her wand against the wood, she murmured "Intaglio Gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo gebo..."
When she finally laid down her wand, there sat before her a - slightly wibbly, but discernable and recognisable - cross, like a capital 'X'... Or a very big kiss.

"And what is the other way?"
*Shaking his head a little like a dog he tried to clear away the water from him.Pointing his wand to the group he started to slowly dry everyone off.*
"Try again Mia. Think of nothing but the rune. Remember what prof said. Picture it. Don't worry you'll get it."
Vivian seated herself in one of the tables,She wasn't really exited like other first years. But that doesn't mean she isn't thoughtful about what she'll soon learn in her class or hat new friends she'll meet, because of this,Vivian was in a daydreaming position.
Once Professor completed stating how to use the spell, Lucy was all into the mood to create some awesome runes. She hadn’t decided as to which rune would she make and then started then after thinking for five minutes she decided to make the Jera Rune.
So to get started on her work she first wore the gloves and goggle provided by the professor as she didn't want to get in any trouble. After making her self ready to carve the rune, she then took the piece of wood and thought of the Jera rune and then as exactly as professor she put her wand on the piece of wood and said "Intaglio Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera, Jera" repeatedly till it was perfect.
Now the rune was perfect she took a deep breath as this made her thirsty and thouth was dried she need some water now.

"Yes. Passion and speed. Thank you Katie." Truebridge answered, deadpan.

Cass sighed. Rune carving..great.
She drew her wand from her sleeve and stared at the block of wood in front of her...
Then she glanced at the line forming in front of the teacher's table and realized that she was supposed to get safety stuff..So she stood up, tucked her wand inside her sleeve once more and went over to the table to get a pair of gloves and goggles.
Afterwards, she returned to her table and sighed. No way out now.
She pointed her wand at the wood and said "Intaglio Isa, Isa Isa, Isa"
Finally, after more "Isa-s" that she could count, her wooden rune was perfect.

Reason: Clearly, I do not read instructions =))
As the class progressed, Dianna found the wood carving part particularly interesting. She remembered carving the pickle before so it was nice to practice it once more.
Pickle-Wood. What was the difference?
Because of the safety precautions, Dianna had to get some gloves and goggles from the teacher's table. As she passed by some students were already starting. She was startled at the fact that someone set the wood shavings on fire and also that someone got smacked by a piece of wood on the forehead. But hey, it's all fun right?
"Intalgio Fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu.." she muttered as her wand started carving the piece of wood.
She stopped and took a deep breathe. Her wood rune-thingy was done!

They are going to carve a Rune? Wow. Cool..!!
Freya walked towards the Professor desk to collect goggle and gloves. After she got the goggle and gloves for herself, the Slytherin blonde made her way back to her work table. She put the goggles and the gloves on before she began craving Rune. Okay all set. She thought for a moment what rune she'd like to carve on the woods. She flipped through her runes textbook to find a perfect rune. "Hmm..I think I'll go with Sowilo" she said to herself. She pulled out her wand and took a very deep breath before she pointed her wand to the wood "Intaglio Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo..Sowilo." After a lot more Sowilo later, she looked to her wood and saw Sowilo craved onto the wood.
Louisa scribbled down the incantation on her piece of parchment. She wasn't the best in memorizing the specific spells, you see. The piece of wood seemed like her tiny board back at home, the one she usually taught her brothers the alphabet on, and that helped her not to be tensed over the carving thing.
Before she had started working on her piece of wood and like a warning from heaven, Louisa saw a flying wood and then FIRE! She gasped and almost jumped under the table if an older student didn't step in and put it out. She stood still for a moment to take it all in. Okay. That was a bad try from that girl. What if she made the same mistake? Huh? No way. She wasn't taking any chances! Everybody knew wood catches fire like… the best. She wore the protecting gloves and moved her piece of wood further away… and further… and further. Now she was safe enough to try that spell ^__^
Ahem. She pointed her wand at the piece of wood, which stood almost in the center of the table now, and focused on it. "Intaglio Ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz ansuz.." Moving the wand around and a few seconds later she heard a sound… like a big saw working on a piece of wood.
What? O__o
Louisa stopped suddenly and stretched out for her wood. "Er…Professor…" The young girl could see through the carvings! Uh Oh. "Was this supposed to happen?" Awkward smile "I mean the shape is almost the same but.."She put one finger into one of the holes.
After putting on the safety equipment Jamie held her wand. She was nervous. That much was certain. She looked at the block of wood and then back at the rune she wanted to draw. It looked like on of those less than signs so maybe it wouldn't be so complicated. She pointed her wand and said,"Intaglio." Then immediately began thinking Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz, Kenaz. When she was done she let her wand dropped and looked at the Rune. One line was longer than the other and she frowned placing her elbow on the table so she could rest her cheek on the corresponding hand.

Witsy was carefully paying attention as to not make any mistakes. Once she heard about safety glasses she sighed, for some reason everytime she wore them they would fog up on her or couldn't see. It's like they hated her or something. She looked over to the rest of the people at her table already practicing and thought to begin.
She placed her safety glasses on and placed the piece of wood in front of her. She raised her wand and her head started be irritated. Well now I can't concentrate on ruins if I'm bothered, she rationalized. She kept going and once her wand started moving and Witsy kept repeating Kenaz over and over her glasses fogged. Okay I can't wear these she thought, maybe no one will notice, feeling a bit paranoid. She took her goggles off, it's a piece of wood it's not gonna kill me... she hoped to think.

Sebastian looked over to see Bonnie. Oh great, this class was going to be even harder with her around. Blagh, oh well, might as well just focus. "Sebsters?" He chuckled. "Isn't that original." He stated, with a grin. Wow, he could have done better, but still at least it wasn't as bad as Crabcakes. Before he could answer her next question the music seemed to die down and the professor was starting the class. He gave a knowing look to Bonnie that they would catch up later after class.
Okay, so what he knew about Runes. Well Ancient Runes wasn't his best class and he wasn't great at memorizing what he had already learned about them. So he sat up straight in his seat, still a little nervous, trying to think about what he knew about Ancient Runes.
Sophie was sitting at a table with Sebastian and another unkown girl and took dilligent notes as the first Ancient Runes lesson begun. The prefect didn't make any attempt to express her knowledge of Ancient Runes since it in all honesty was seriously lacking. She had not taken Runes in the two previous years since she had placed most of her attention and effort in other subjects. Sophie mouthed a 'Hello' to Sebastian before taking a closer look inside the Runes textbook that was placed in front of her.
SPOILER!!: Truebridge

Yes. They'd be carving up the furniture.
"So take a look at the list. What kind of runes do you think would be good to carve into a desk that you do schoolwork on? What kind of effects would you think might be beneficial? Put your hand up if you can see one here, and do feel free to think outside the box, there is a lot of opportunity for that. You're welcome to say a rune someone else has said, but do try to share a different magical association to that rune as well as why you think it'd be

ooc: be creative, go ahead and say as many runes as you want, as long as your character can say why they think it'd be beneficial to be on a school desk/table.

Opening up the textbook to the designated page Sophie read with rising interest about the different runes and their magical uses. Clearing her throat she said "Thurisaz, Wunjo and Ansuz fit me best. Thurisaz since I as an OWL-student could benefit from the study aid and self-disipline so that i will commit myself to studying well and be prepared for the OWL's." She glanced quickly at the page again before continuing. "Wunjo fits me on a more personal level since we all need harmony, joy and motivation in our everyday lifes to give it meaning. And Ansuz latly because being able to communicate with peopple is off the essence as well as finding wisdom in everyday situations to become a better person." Sophie stopped talking hoping that it had made sense. If not she couldn't exactly take her words back.
Several minutes later Professor Truebridge announced that they were going to be testing to carve a rune into a piece of wood. Excited Sophie walked up and collected her safety googles and gloves. Back at her table a piece of wood was waiting for her. Extracting her wand from its holster Sophie said "Intaglio Wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo wunjo." whilst aiming her wand at her wood piece. Slowly some lines started writing itself on the wood. The warmth emanating from her piece of wood was quite warm. She hoped that she wouldn't cause a fire to break out like she had seen happen to Kurumi a fellow Gryffindor.
After collecting the necessary protective gear Rowan slipped on her gloves. Now, she thought to herself, which Rune should I use? Runes was not her best subject and she had to think long and hard to come up with one, finally deciding on Isa. She concentrated hard on the Rune, whispering "Isa, Isa, Isa," a few times hoping that no one heard her. She moved her wand exactly as the Professor had shown her and actually managed a passable Isa Rune! She had to fight to contain the huge smile that tried to break out on her face, but failed miserably. She couldn't believe that it had ACTUALLY worked!
Elle, seeing what everybody was doing, walked over to the teacher's table and got some safety tools.
"Good morning, Professor Truebridge," She cheerfully greeted him as she was on her way to the table.
With goggles and gloves, Elle took out her nine-inch Elm wand. Flipping through a few pages of her textbook, she found out a good spell for the carving. "Ah! This one should do..." She muttered to herself.
Taking a deep breath, she began her chant. "Intaglio Kenaz... Kenaz... Kenaz... " Without stopping to breathe, Elle just kept going on and on and on.
Finally, finished! ELL DID IT! It was her first time to properly use her wand. Boy were her parents going to proud. Hihi, just you wait.

Reason: oops! i accidentally clicked on the post button twice... sorry! :(
Jaina, wearing her googles and gloves, looked down at her piece of wood. She thought very hard about Fehu. She says "Intaglio Fehu, fehu, fehu, fehu." She looked at her piece of wood...still nothing. Ok, let's try this again!"Intaglio Fehu, Fehu, Fehu, Fehu..."
