First lesson since his most recent return to Hogwarts and Ethan Truebridge was sitting at his desk in the front of the classroom, a magical gramophone sat on his desk, the soundtrack of Les Misérables playing quietly.
The blackboard was apparently 'singing' along, as the words were sung on the record, in runic the translations appeared on the board and then disappeared again moments later.
Truebridge ignored it and kept his hazel-green eyes on the door, watching as the students began to file in.
"Sit wherever you like. Four to six people at each table if you please."
SPOILER!!: classroom description
The classroom is bright and airy, very clean and comfortable. There are no desks in this classroom, rather there are several wooden tables which would fit between four and six students quite comfortably. The tables are arranged rather higgledy piggledy, all out of alignment with each other and yet there is plenty of room to weave through the tables and walk up to the front of the classroom, or down to the back.
The front of the classroom has a large blackboard, charmed to write on itself, and when it isn't taking notes it quite often it has something to say, though you'll need to transcribe it from runic to English to make any sense of it. Truebridge also has a desk at the front of the class, set to one side, and a perfect view of all the tables arranged haphazardly around the room.
At the back of the classroom, set to one side, there is the door out into the corridor. Along the back wall there is a large bookshelf almost overflowing with books, mostly old, all very well taken care of. You're welcome to look at any of these books but if any harm befalls the tomes, there will be a severe price to pay. A long and comfortable couch takes up the rest of the back wall.
The windows along the remaining side, opposite the door and Truebridge's desk have soft white curtains that are almost transparent. When pulled they simply diffuse the light and ensure it is not too bright, allowing the room to stay bright and lit at all times. The window frames are the most interesting, if you go and inspect them, all of the exposed wood has been painstakingly carved with runes, mostly bindrunes and rune charms, set in ligature and carved then stained red. These have all been activated and almost thrum under your fingertips. No cold will pass these windows, no student will fall to their deaths. It is a barrier of safety and of comfort, and a good example of runic magic. The door into the classroom is similarly marked.
ooc note: Please note that class has finished. The thread will be open for a short time longer to allow everyone to complete the last task. Please read the following posts to catch up with the lesson, or the latest one if you wish to jump in on the current activity/question. Not all of Truebridge's posts are included here, just those relevant to the progression of the lesson.
Witsy heard something about chaser and speed and whipped around her chair. She turned to look at Jacqueline but she couldn't help but wonder about the conversation. She looked back around, "Um excuse me but I couldn't help but here something about chasers and flying, you wouldn't be talking about Quidditch were you?" Witsy was hoping they were cuz all she can think about were the tryouts. She was wondering if she was trying out as well. "I'm Wisteria Hartly," she kind of said loudly thinking the music wasn't gonna drop as low as it did, she looked around in *woops* and smiled back in her direction.
"I'm Chris Lindman. And yeah. we were," she whispered, smiling. "You trying out for the Gryffindor team?" It would be great to know someone else who was trying out besides Rafe, who was bound to make it if he'd been keeper for three years. She kept an eye on the professor, making sure she wouldn't interrupt him if he happened to start speaking.
"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."
Alice walked into the classroom and took a seat at one of the open tables, setting her bag down along next to her. Ancient Runes wasn't her strong suit, but she did find the class interesting. "Hello Professor Truebridge, how are you today?" Alice asked, giving the teacher a warm smile.

Witsy was thrilled, "yeah I'm hoping to make chaser or seeker, but anyhting would be awesome." Witsy looked too to make sure she wasn't interuppting the proffesor, one embarrassing moment was good enough. "How's your first day been? I hope todays lesson's brilliant. Rafe's been keeper for the past three years..." she looked horrified, "is he trying out for keeper this year?" Witsy was hoping he would cuz then at least she'd still have a chance.
Rene walked calmly into the Runes classroom. "Hello, Professor Truebridge. How are you today?". She took her seat next to her favorite person at Hogwarts, Rex Trigwell. "Hey Rex, nervous about our first class of our last term?" She asked, placing her bag on the back of the chair and pulling out her book, parchment and quills.
She noticed joey sitting at a nearby table. "Hey Joey, how have you been? I haven't seen you around in awhile." She said as she motioned her to come and sit at thier table with her and Rex.
Joey walks over sits,Hey Rene how are you.i Know is has i've been busy getting unpacked.its going to be a good class i hope she said with a small smile.havent you notice how tall i am now.
Luna walked into class for her first Ancient Runes class of the term. She noticed Lés Miserables playing in the background. "Good Morning Professor, I love Lés Miserables it's my favourite musical!" she said. She looked around, no-one she knew. She sat down at an empty tables waiting for other pupils to come in.
As Emmaleigh made her way up to the Runes classrooms, she paused at the door. The room was so different, with regular work tables instead of the colorful cushions. Although she knew that Markovic hadn't returned, it still made Em sad because she had been her favorite professor. Making her way into the room, Emmaleigh smiled at the man behind the desk. "Morning Professor."

"Hello Professor." she said with a smile before taking a seat.
When she entered the room, Em noticed several of her friends and acquaintances already inside. There were also several people she wouldn't mind talking to, like that Jake guy. But the little girl's eyes landed upon her best friend. She made her way over to Brittany and sat down. "Hey." was all she could say with last night's fight weighing heavily on her mind.

" How are you doing?" rex asked Joey. "Are you ready for the wedding between Ryanne and your brother?" Rex asked her.

A fifth year, undoubtedly, wasn't as clueless as Sierra imagined herself to be.
First question of the class, and it came from a student rather than the professor. At least Evelyn didn't ask her to reply in Ancient Runes or something. "Hmm, well, I guess it depends on what it is," she continued, just as quietly as before. "Is it something you can just get wet then leave out to rust?" Rusted objects usually crumbled to pieces after a while.
It depended on what it was?
...
Well she supposed that was a good question to her question and should be thought about, but it still irritated her that she had gotten a question for an answer. No matter though! Sierra brought up a good point. "No." she replied simply, leaning against the table and letting her head rest against the palm of her hand.
Yes, it actually was something that could be left out to rust, but that just, took too long. "Do you know of any faster way then...rust?" Heck, Evelyn would come up with an idea, but she was just too darn tired at the moment. Besides, she needed to keep all the energy she could for the class.

"Same here. I'm doing good. I love this class it is really fun" she added looking at Joey. "You have gotten taller."

"I like chaser and seeker too. Rafe's bound to get keeper, so there's no chance at that. I can play as a beater too, but I've got a bit of a disadvantage since I'm usually one of the smallest players," Chris said, loving being able to talk about the best sport in the world. "And my day has been pretty good, thanks. I'm really excited for this class. What about you?"
Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna
Simon was certainly excited for his first class of term, having done surprisingly well the past year and on the OWL he had taken for Ancient Runes. The only disappointment was the absense of Davina markovich. She had certainly made the class rather interesting and fun to learn from. However it was made up for by the return of another professor he had enjoyed.
Stepping into the classroom, he noticed the man's presense and the fellow students already there. "Hello Professor...welcome back," he greeted before heading to a table to take a seat to prepare for class.
Iris looked up from her school bag, quill hin her hand when someone sat down next to her and begun to get their things out. The prefect grinned as she saw all of the purple.
Satine.
The girl took her notepad out of her bag, then dropped it on the floor, kicking it under the table. She then looked at her friend, grinning at the comment she made. "I'm good..." Holding her hand up for a high five, Iris smiled back at Satine. Then she looked to the front of the class, eyeing any of the noisy kids with a glare.
Satine smiled at her Slythie friend and returned the high five followed by two thumbs up to indicate she was too. Then started looking around the room trying to insure that there weren't any Ravvies talking....but it only took one Professor explaining the rules for most of these peeps to shut it.....and hopefully Truebridge would be the same ol Truebridge and be understanding at first.

She nodded in agreement about Rafe being Keeper. "Maybe being short isn't a disadvantage. Maybe being small can actually be a useful thing on your part, you can fly faster and turn quicker. How are your reflexes?" Witsy was short too, but she didn't want to think of it as a disadvantage either. She felt melencolic at the thought of loving a sport so much that you can't play it. She looked in to Chris's eyes, "You should definitely tryout and your shortness should be an advantage."Witsy would hope to see her at try-ots, it would be so much fun. "I woke up thinking I wa late to class and couldn't sleep last night. Had nighmares," she said with a slight smile, "I'm excited about class though, I like school, it gives me something to do, ya know."
Emily walked into her first lesson. She was so nervous!
She saw the teacher and said rather quietly "Good morning Professor..."
She didn't know if the teacher had even heard her but quickly walked and sat down at a table near the back. She wasn't normally this shy!

"I like the way you think. Being small definitely can help if you play it to your advantage. My reflexes are alright. At least I think so. I guess we'll find out at tryouts. Sorry about the nightmares though... I'm completely useless if I don't get my sleep. I have no idea how you're not brain dead right now." Chris liked this new girl. There weren't that many other girls who would analyze Quidditch like that, and it was good to see Chris wasn't the only person that did.
" Hi hugo, how are you?" Rex asked him. "Do you know Fee has another best friend besides me?" Rex asked Hugo. " i do not trust him, his name is Alex" rex explained to Hugo.
Hugo looked up at Rex. "Oh, Alex Reed," he said casually. "I've met him once, is there any reason I shouldn't trust him?" he asked opening his books.
"Mine is Runes, Muggle studies and Potions" she said "Yeah she left sorry about that one"
" Well, , let me quote a muggle song by MeatLoaf, " Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" Rex laughed. You like Potions better and I like charms better." Rex told Rene.

" Yes, Alex Reed is not one of my favorites' Rex told Hugo. " Well, She calls him her best friend now and I had been her best male friend" Rex said to Hugo." I believe he is not only a prankster but a troublemaker" Rex told Hugo about Alex Reed.
Jaina saw him point to the chair. Oh, no. she thought. My first class and I'm gonna get hexed. She didn't want to anger him further so she scooped up her things and sat across from him. "I-I r-really am sorry." she stuttered out in a small whisper. She looked as if she was going to start crying. She picked up her copy of Much Ado About Nothing and began to read again. She peered once more over her book to see if it was safe.
The girl uptook his offer and Tyler watched as she sat herself down at their table. She apologised once more, barely above a whisper and Tyler merely nodded in recognition that he had infact heard her. He did not, however, provide any verbal response. He just stared out the window... "Woosh," he quietly mused, imitating the wind outside.
