Emily twisted the feather of her quill around her finger and sat up straight.
Thinking. She was thinking.
Oh! A question.
"A poison is a substance that makes you really ill, stops a body function and even kills you when it is eaten, inhaled or absorbed by your body." she said while politely raising her hand.
Yeah. She'd read her potions text book.

Just like how Mistress Lafay looked, Josh seemed to be tired today as well for he had spent all night taking showers over and over. Plus he had to deal with his all dirty and disgusting school uniform. He did not have many shirts, ties, robes...etc like some others did. So it had been an all cleaning night. Hopefully he managed to do it. At least no part of his school uniform was stinking anymore and he considered this a victory. VICTORY!

Tapping on the desk lazily, he listened to everyone who stated their ideas about what posion was, his dark eyes landing on each classmate as they spoke...of course the careful and curious gaze of those eyes was directed at Evelyn a little bit(!) longer than the others when she uttered her idea. Hmmm. He wanted to say something too but on the other hand he did not want to repeat what the others said so...

Looking back at Mistress Lafay, the Gryffindor boy seemed to think over something hard but it did not last long and the next moment a half smile appeared on his face. ''Professor...'' he said confidently raising his hand and dropping it right after standing up to face her properly.

''I do agree what my friends have said about poison, so far. But there's something else i want to add. There's another characteristic of it. And its pretty common. Poison is something dangerous, harmful and even sometimes fatal, yes. But also it is alluring which makes it more dangerous. What i mean that something poisonous is always attractive to living things and when that living thing is caught by that attraction it is really really really hard to fight the urge and stay away from it.'' Once he completed this last sentence, he took a quick breath and as he did so, he did not forget glancing at Evelyn once more who was sitting...alone. Huh? Why were not the other She-Snakes sitting with her?

Maybe, maybeee this was an open opportunity for him. Yes, it definitely was. Again looking back at the Potions Mistress the Gryffindor went on his words ''For example, you know, most beautiful flowers or plants are those most poisonous ones and poisonous animals usually have bright colours to attract the prey. I shall and can even demonstrate a living example of this right now'' the boy seriously nodded but smirked inwardly. ''Just excuse me'' Then he left his desk, walked towards Evelyn's and stopped right next to her indicating the Slytherin girl to thr whole class and to the professor. ''Here. That is just a perfect example of what i am trying to say''

Then smiling warmly at the snake girl, Josh sat down next to her and moved a little bit to make himself comfortable. He was noooow done!

Hehehe.

Mia had started to raise her hand to give the exact same answer as everyone else when that Gryffindor boy, Josh started to speak.

Oh.

My.

God.

Did he just do that? In this class? And what was he trying to say? That Evelyn was a beautiful, poisinous creature?

Okay her friend did have a sharp tongue at times but Mia wouldn't call her poisinous. With her hand still halfway in the air, she cleared her throat. "I agree with that Josh kid. Not about Evelyn but the other things he said. I will add, that not all poisons are illegal either. Alcohol can be considered a poison. It causes harm to your body and excessive drinking can eventually kill you."

Sierra sat quietly in her seat while her head moved from classmate to classmate. Most of them sounded like walking dictionaries. Either that, or they were all just really great at using big and unusual words. Maybe they were all related to Kurumi Hollingberry in some way, too...

Sierra spotted her brother seated across the classroom. They hadn't said much to one another in months, but their twelfth birthday was coming up soon, so she guessed it would be nice to try and reconnect with him. Coming to Hogwarts had nearly killed any closeness they'd once had. Well...it wasn't her fault he'd gone and gotten himself sorted into Hufflepuff.

She turned her attention to Lafay and raised her hand. "Poisons are substances that can be deadly or make you seriously ill, but they have other uses, too," she said. She lowered her hand before saying anything else. "Some poisons can be used to control insects and weeds or as an antidote to other poisons--like a snake's venom."

...and on that note, she might have given a few nearby Hufflepuffs a wicked-looking smile.

Kururumi listened to her classmates' answers for a little before raising her hand to offer her own. "Professor, all materials have the potential to be a poison - although most people first thing of things like arsenic compounds to be them. A poison is is any product or substance that can harm someone if it is used in the wrong way, by the wrong person, or in the wrong amount. For example, I have a friend who is allergic to mangoes and, if she ate one even in a small amount, it could be fatal to her. What makes a poison different from a toxin or a venom is that a poison is something ingested through the gut or skin, while the other two are absorbed through different methods such as an animal bite."

Luin nodded to the professor and then wrote "Poisons" down on her parchment. She noticed some drama going on but ignored it as much as possible. She would much rather just try to pay attention, especially in this class. She thought about the question for a bit before stating her answer, "Poisons are substances that can cause damage to any organism that is not resistance to it. It is usually caused by a chemical reaction or something similar. The poison is usually damaging when an adequate amount is absorbed."

Turning her attention away from Patroclus and to another certain Gryffindor in this room that she hadn't noticed until now darnit, the dark haired Slytherin girl pulled her sleeve slightly up before wiping off the table space in front of her, ears open to what Josh was saying. Hmm, well she had to admit, what he said made sense. Poison was alluring to some.

Okay, what?

Staring at the table as he went on about flowers, beauty, and attracting prey, her gaze traveled towards him as...he appeared next to her. Ha. Haaaaaaha. Huh. "Hmm, lovely." she said, scrunching up her nose slightly as she forced a tiny smile. "Though, if I may add...something poisonous doesn't always have to be beautiful or attractive. It can be somewhat plain-fully obvious to the eye and unpleasant to experience...as if caught in a thorn bush. The thorns just keep poking you painfully in the side until you just can't take it anymore..." Wiping off her sleeve, she sighed a dramatic sigh as her fake smile turned to one of sweet innocence.

"And it is only until you finally learn to just...stay away, that it'll all get better." HINT!? Hint hint hint....WHYYYYY are you, Mr. Carter, sitting in the seat next to her?

Poisons. Jacob knew what those were... sort of. He quickly raised his hand. "Its a thing..." good start. Come one brain. Work. "Its a thing, that makes you Icky and Sicky" yes! Maybe.... no? What ever. at least he gave an answer.

Annabelle Lecium replied "Professor, isn't a poison a chemical substance that can react with the body's organs and cause to be veryy fatal and you can die?

Chloe listened to how her classmates responded to the professors question. They seemed to have it right but she felt there was juat a little more to add. Chloe raised her hand and said, "I believe a poison is any substance that can make you sick, weak, or cause a painful reaction. Not all poisons are fatal. Its depends on the amount injested or that came in contact within skin.".

Charley decided to speak up. "I agree with that. A poison is something to which your body has a distinctly negative reaction, but not necessarily very severe."

Selina had just begun to head her paper when Lafay had opened the floor to the answer to her question. The room began to scuffle with the excitement of everyone's answers. Selina rose her hand and said, "Ma'am, a poison is a substance that is harmful to a vital part of the human body. These substances can be found in nature and when if taken in a high enough dosage can be fatal. Of course they do not have to be."

Nika took out a piece of parchment and a quill from her bag and got ready to start taking notes. She looked at her professor and thought about the question she had asked. "A poison is a... a... a thing that if exposed to you can harm you or even kill you! That's why it's important to steer clear of them." She looked at her professor with a worried expression on her face. Oh no. Poison. What does this mean. Whatever it is it can't be good.

"Poison is a substance with an inherent property that tends to destroy life or impair health. It is a corrosive element that can either kill you in a really fast or slow painful way or make you sick with nasty side effects. Poison, as I learned from books, was very popular in Monarchial Times, making all theroyals wary of what they eat," Elle answered. She hoped she had provided the right amount of information to answer Professor Lafay's question.

K-Lee rose her hand to answer. "A poison is something that is dangerous to whoever inhales it, drinks it or touches it, depending on the kind. They can kill or seriously injure. Some burn your skin, others make you sick." Maybe too much details in that but it was still in her head the right answer.

Well it sounded right anyway.

Destiny watched as Mia and Marie walked into the classroom, silently hoping they would walk right by her desk. When they did, she made sure to turn her head and see where exactly they sat and she couldn't help but feel just a tad bit uncomfortable with Mia sitting directly behind her.

They seemed to act alike sometimes and with what Destiny was thinking of doing to Evelyn, she was afraid that Mia would throw little pieces of paper at her head. Marie she wasn't so worried about. A punch flying would be easier to block than a paper ball.

Hmm. She would have kept her eyes on both her friends, but it was rather hard since she was sitting in front of them both.

And why would she want to pay attention to them when she had someone better to pay attention to sitting next to her? HEHEHEHE. Giving her the Prefect a smile as he sat next to her, she would have laughed at his question if Evelyn hadn't started eying him up and Professor Lafay hadn't started class.

And since Destiny knew she was Lafay's favorite student, she just had to answer..and she would have to wait to throw the pieces of paper at Evelyn.

What is a pooooooison?

Snickering at Mia's answer, she raised her own hand. "A poison is something your parents tell you something is so you won't eat or drink it. Like that piece of cake sitting on the counter that they want to eat when you go off to bed."

Pfft. Destiny ate it anyway.

Wow.

Patroclus really needed to have a chat with Josh, he was kinda out of control, yes his answer was a really good one, all bar the part where he used Ev as an example, that wasn't cool.


However the girl beside him was the essence of cool, and so was that cake she was talking about! Whispering very softly he asked, "You ate it, didn't you?"

He didn't really need to wait for a reply, this was Destiny after all!


"Professor, just something to add to my classmate's answers, is that poisons are generally when discussed in relation to biology they are divided into two subsections, one being toxins and the other venoms."

Now back to thoughts of Destinycake.

Rowan sat quietly, listening and taking notes in her usual way. She preferred to blend into the background. Besides, she learned more by listening.

"Good Miss Browne." She said.

"There are powders that are poisons, or poisonous plants etc... not necessarily a liquid, Miss Scott." She said.

"Yes, Miss Hopkins." She said and looked at the next person.

"Yes... But next time tell me in your own words and don't memorize from the book, Miss Draven." She said.

"Yes, Prefect Cartwright." She agreed nodding.

"Good, Miss Denver. Belladonna is a poisonous plant, however we do use it in potion making." She replied.

...

He's heard people being described as poisonous as well, had he.

... by his father no doubt.

"Right. It doesn't have to be a potion." She said and continued with the class.

"Yes Miss Shepard." She said and continued looking at the class.

"Correct... Master Salander." She said and moved to the next student.

"Indeed, Prefect Carmicheal." She said.

"Indeed, Miss Erised. It depends on the person. Peanuts can kill one person, and do nothing to someone else." She said.

"Indeed Miss Smith." She said.

... "Right Master Greingoth..."

Why was that kid looking at her as if she had an acromantula behind her.

She quickly looked behind her. Nothing. Oh well. That kid was just odd.

Her eyes flashed with a sudden fear, but then calmed very quickly.

She nodded. "Right Miss Maloney."

"Yes, Miss Smith..." She said.

"Carter." She said and rolled her eyes. "Get back to your other seat." She wasn't going to have lovers quarrels in her classroom. "You made your point. And you are correct."

Gryffindors...

"Right, Good Miss Gibbins..." She said.

She smiled at the girl. "Very good Miss Griengoth, sometimes you need to fight fire, with fire..." no pun intended.

"Well said, Miss Hollingberry" She said nodding.

"Right, Miss Celebrindal." She said with a nod.

"Exactly Miss Shepard." She said looking at Carter.

"and dead." She told the boy coldly. "Poisons are not child's play Captain Blunt."

"It is... but not all poisons are fatal, Miss Lecium." She told the girl.

"Good Miss Morets," She said to the girl.

"Correct, Miss Kelley." She nodded.

"Indeed they do not, Miss Skylar." She agreed.

"And you should steer clear, Miss Adler." Why was she looking so worried?

"Very good, Miss Woods. That's why kings and queens had tasters, even dating back before then at the time of the pharaohs." She nodded.

"Yes, Miss Solar." she said.

Oh, for Merlin's sakes.

"No, Miss Shepard. That is not true." Destiny would be the cause of someone's death in this class if they listed to the her.

She turned to the whole class. "If I tell you something is a poison, even if it MAY be a poison and you are not sure of it, Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, touch or ingest it." She opened a drawer, removed a chocolate chocolate chunk cookie, and a vial. Then she summoned a sugar lump from the tea set to her back. She placed the cube in a mortar and with the pestle... and a little magic, turned the granules into powdered sugar. She then added a few drops of the liquid in the vial making it into a glaze. It smelled different to everyone. It smelled like your favorite sweet. To Hecate it smelled like dark black cherries. Then with a brush, she layered the stuff on the cookie.

Lifting the cookie she showed it to the class. It looked delicious. "This is poison." She said. "If you would like me to prove it, I will summon a rat from inside the wall... and test it." She wasn't kidding.

After putting the cookie back in her desk, she made her way back to Destiny, and placed both her hands on the girl's table "Your parents may lie to you to keep you in line. I won't lie to you." She leaned forward and whispered so only Destiny could hear. "I, Miss Shepard, have other ways..."

She moved back to her spot on the desk. "Very good, Prefect Hudson." She told the boy.

"Kneazle got your tongue, Miss Firestorm-Smithson?" She asked the girl. Rhetorical Question...

"Continuing... Can you name a poison, and where you find it. One per student." She asked the class.

For a moment, Helena thought professor Lafay was going to make them eat poisoned cookies. Juuuust for a moment, but the thought was still there in her mind. She wouldn't have been surprised, though.

Now... a poison. She raised her hand. "Does the snake venom count? As for the place you can find it, it's... obvious," the girl said, then slowly let her hand fall back on her lap.

Elektra chuckles softly and rubbed the back of her neck. "Sorry professor." She said and then cleared her throat and heard her next question. She thought for a moment thinking of different kinds of poison and try to figure out a way to put it into her own words. She raised her hand. "I believe one is cyanide and I think it can be found in a certain bean, but I can't remember which."

"Don't. Ask her. To prove it," Jake said, suddenly quite sternly, from the back of the room. He was addressing the students at large here, and though he'd been all mopey and distracted, his eyes FLASHED with fury at the thought of poisoning a rat. "Please, you guys."

Then he calmed... somewhat... and raised his hand. "Aconite, which is also called wolfsbane or monkshood. It's a plant..."

Yeah. That was all he was saying.

Helena suddenly turned around as she heard a voice from the back of the room. What was he talking about... ? Don't ask her what?

Oh. The rat.

Noooo, no. Definitely no. It was enough to see those lobalugs killed back then... She surely didn't want to see a rat being poisoned. And being poisoned by Lafay... MUCH worse. So... no. No, thank you.

Wait. Lafay was going to poison a rat? Or was at least threating to poison a rat. Well that was just weird, and Finn was pretty sure that they all knew what a poison did without having to be shown. At least he was sure. Hopefully Lafay wouldn't end up poisioning a rat, because he was pretty sure that it would be rather awkward. Thankfully the professor had moved on, and now Finn was trying to think of a posion. Now he was pretty sure he knew at least one, because well he would've been pretty stupid if he really didn't know what at least one poision was.

"I think the bite of a Black Widow Spider is considered poisonous" He at least hoped it was anyway, or he was going to look a bit silly, but then he was only trying. "and can be found in Northen America I think."

Hehe, that’s right Josh! Go back to your own seat. This one was taken! It was taken…by her bag; or would have been if he hadn’t sat there. Raising a brow at Destiny’s answer, the Slytherin girl snickered quietly before quieting down rather quickly, the other brow meeting the first one. Erm…

Why the heck would someone eat something that Lafay deemed poisonous?

That’s why. Didn’t the professor KNOW that Destiny couldn't resist chocolate!? And didn’t the professor not like her class being compared to baking? Yet here they were, placing chocolate in the Slytherin girl’s line of view, and creating little poisonous cookies. OMG, that sounded so familiar for some reason. Huuuuh. Getting the faint scent of strawberries suddenly, Evelyn blinked before clearing her mind of memories as she watched Lafay move over to Destiny. Wow. Scary moment.

Speaking of horrible sweets however… "Theobromine can be rather poisonous." She said after raising her hand. Smiling her gaze maaaaay have turned to Destiny as she leaned against her table slightly. "It's found in chocolate." Giggle. Of course, she wasn't going to mention that it mostly affected animals either. Yush, she had done her research on the ghastly food. Bleh.
