Today, the desks and chairs are lined up along the perimeter of the room, leaving the center wide open. Professor Kingsley stands at the front of the room next to the chalkboard.
The board reads as follows:
Quote:
On a piece of parchment please write the following:

An example of a practical use of transfiguration
Please note: The announcement on your noticeboard asked you to bring a scarf. If you forgot, not to worry. If you did bring it, please leave it on your desk.

Feenella. Well, that was the first time he's heard that name. He felt like dealing with Tiberius.
The boy smiled and nodded, "Nice to meet you, Feenella" he said, trying not to focus on the Slytherin part, though, so far she didn't look like any of those mean Slytherin girls. All was good.
"Thanks again for helping me", she smiled sweetly,"what year are you in?"
Fee noticed he felt a little uncomfy but decided to just stay friendly. That was always the best way to put things.
Raiden had been absently flicking his wand, switching between silence and quiet mutters by way of casting. It wasn't really difficult; after the first few tries, he turned his focus to colours. They'd been a problem two terms ago, but now he seemed to have no issues with that. Heh.
...they were going to be lighting things on fire? That... that just spelled disaster for some. Eyebrows raised, he conjured a pair of gloves and slipped them on before pulling his light brown jacket out of his bag. It wouldn't keep him really warm, but it would work. Long as they weren't spending hours outside.
Without bothering about a hat, though touching his ear as if conscious of not having one, he stood, zipped the brown leather jacket up, and followed the professor from the room.
Louisa listened and wrote down what she had to. See? Her suggestion was right! She was grinning to herself. Fire's awesome, right? Well her wand conjured a pretty fireball back at the wandmaker's. Teehee. That meant her wand would do just really well with fire she was confident.
She started collecting her stuff.. Uh Oh her scarf was still a handkerchief. She indicated the nice boy nearby. "Would you make it into a scarf again, please?" She wasn't being annoying or anything..it's just she didn't want to get sick now that she had ALOT to study for. When were the exams by the way? Ah. Never mind that now, all she wanted was her scarf back and that nice boy to stay nearby for help. what? that wasn't 'being annoying', was it?

Ummm... what?
Looking around, head peaking out from under the poka dot blanket, she had previously been just sitting there, just trying to get her eyes to stay open. This blanket, even though it looked skinny and small, was waaaay too warm. could that even be possible?
It was enough to make her fall asleep that is.
Eesh.
But the mention of FIRE had her up and awake! OMG! They were going to create FIRE!?
Packing up her things quickly, the Slytherin stood up, blanket still wrapped around her before following the professor. Fiiiiiirrrreee.... mwahahahahahaha!

Well, perhaps a little too formal, but at least her mother would be proud of her keeping her manners. She would have to give him some of her baked cookies as a thank you gift for helping her out.

Unholstering his wand, he flicked it at the board, adding the words, escarpa and manus under vestis and the words letrom and cotone under vellus.
"Vestis was the part of the spell that dictated what you were making. The same can be said for escarpa and manus. Scarf and gloves or mittens, respectively. If you find yourself without those items when the weather turns chill, you can conjure them."
He paused, before continuing.
"As I mentioned before, vellus helps focus on what type of blanket you're going to create. It modifies the vestis spell. Once you are proficient and focused enough, you may be able to simply concentrate and use vestis. However, using the modifier is helpful. Letrom and cotone are similar. Letrom designates leather, and likely would only modify manus. Cotone is for cotten. So, vestis cotone would give you a light cotton throw, much like a light picnic blanket. Manus vellus would give you woolen gloves or mittens. And so forth."
He flicked his wand at the board once more, rearranging the words into their likely pairs:
"The wand movement for escarpa is simple. You just draw a line in the air, top to bottom, as you say the incantation. Manus is also simple, being a small circular flick." He demonstrated each movement.
"Your homework will be, in part, to practice these spells, so don't worry about that now. Give your blanket spell another shot if you'd like and then revert your blankets back into scarfs and let's discuss what other things could be useful in the theme of today's lesson." He paused, a eyebrow raising, "Which, if you haven't guessed, is focused around staying warm. Any thoughts?"

Preston drew a line down the chalkboard with his wand, sectioning off the attire from a blank spot. Adding focalia with another flick, he turned to the class.
"Most of you are already familiar with incendio. It has been taught in previous terms, you sometimes use it in other classes, and so forth. Some of you don't, and so I'll work with you. But what we'll be doing first, is conjuring firewood, so that the fire has something to sustain it. After all, if you were stuck outdoors in a clearing with just snow, there would be nothing to burn."
Clearing his throat, Preston slashed his wand in an 'X' in the air. "Focalia."
Appearing on the floor of the classroom was a bundle of firewood, dry and perfect for burning.
"A simple incantation with a simple x wand movement. The trick is the concentration to make sure the wood is suitable for burning. Dry. Bundle up. We are headed outdoors to practice this spell because after you conjure, you'll be setting it on fire and the classroom simply isn't suited for that."
With that, Preston moved to the door, pulling out a box of conjured hats and gloves for those without their winter wear.

"Oh, yeah, no problem," Fletcher nodded at the firstie again. He felt like, so helpful. Like one of those cool role models. Cuz he was cool. And he looked as handsome as a model.
Taking the girls hand, Fletcher shook it gently and grinned. "Kurumi Hollingberry." Nice name. Hopefully he'd said it right. "I'm Fletcher. Just Fletcher." Yep that was about it. Not sure of what else to say, and seeing the girl go back to her scarf, Fletcher turned back to his own scarf!blanket to give it one more (hopefully nonverbal) go before they moved on.
Oh, but then Professor Kingsley was talking. Fletcher listened to his lecture closely and jotted a few things down for notes. FIRE was next. He loved FIRE. It was an inherited trait, that pyromania of his. Heheheheh. And now back to the scarf.
Quickly, before the rest of the class moved on, Fletcher closed his eyes and envisioned a comfy, huge square, steel gray blanket. Giant. Gray. Blanket. Giant. Gray. Blanket. Got it. He made the little curly-q with his wand and said the incantation in his head. Vestis vellus!
He opened his eyes and was pleased to see that the Hufflepuff scarf was now a gently folded, soft blanket. YAY SUCCESS! Fletcher couldn't help beaming to himself and tossed the blanket over his shoulder to follow the rest of the class outside.

Jenny looked up as she took down her notes. They were going to make fire? Really?! And they were going outside too?! Jenny sighed. She gathered her things and wrapped her multi-colored blanket around herself before going outside.
Eh...multi-colored? There was something to do first. "Reverto!" Jenny sat down and tossed her normal blue scarf on the desk again, trying to imagine a perfectly fit, thick, blue blanket. "Vestis vellus!" Now it was a dark blue blanket, much bigger and thicker than her first blanket. Yay! Jenny could now walk outside.
The proud Jaxon. He considers himself older student.
He took the scarf and placed it on the table. He then took his wand and thought of a cotton blanket, blue in color with the universe swirling around it.
He did the movement as they were told and concentrated hard. He then tapped the scarf and all of a sudden it turned into a cotton blanket with stars in them. It was not what he expected but it was pretty close.

"Two points for tardiness, Miss Granger. Do try to be on time." His voice was clipped.

Alex was so embarrassed that she lost the points..
What will the Ravenclaws think of her???
Professor provided with the scarf.. "Thank you professor" Alex said in a low tone..
She was scared now..
She begin to practice the spell.. "Vestis vellus".. at one stroke she could manage the scarf to turn into the blanket.. "wow!!" She did not expected this..
Alex started wondering how to turn the blanket into the scarf back..
She started looking around the class and her many students using "Reverto" spell.
Alex picked her wand, made herself steady and flicked the wand "Reverto"..
she was successful again..
She made it...
As Alex was busy doing so Professor announced to turn the scarf into different color blanket..
Alex begin to think..
Suddenly an idea came to her mind, so why not concentrate on her dormitory blanket and use the spell...its so comfortable...
Alex pondered the idea for a while and closed her eyes with another flick "Vestis Vellus" she was done..
At least now she did not want to give professor any chance to have bad impression about her..
She used the spells in a same sequence twice and each time she was perfect..
Alex was very happy with herself...
"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."
Once the Professor was finished with telling them where to go, Alice copied down the new addition on the board into her notes. She quickly tucked everything back in to her bag, and returned her wand to its holster, before pulling on her jacket and scarf, and followed everyone outside the classroom.

Taking off his scarf Patroclus laid it on his desk.
Wishing he hadn't as the room was rather Drafty, the boy was eager to conjure the blanket! Removing his wand, and clearly his throat, Patroclus tapped his scarf and uttered, "Vestis vellus!"
Nothing.
Clearing his throat again, Patroclus shut his eyes and visulised the blanket, and then tried again. "Vestis vellus!"
POP!
Perfect there before him was a lovely navy blue blanket! But in true Transfiguration style, he reverted it back to a scarf and then had another go! "Vestis vellus!" Perfect once again!
Listening to the Professor discuss the variety of winter warms one could create, Patroclus could help but wish they woould learn them now! But instead they were off to make fire......just as cool!
