SPOILER!!: Louisa's Parchment
Transfiguration Lesson I

Incantation: Vestis Vellus.
Movement: A simple flourish sort of curly-q.
Effect: A scarf into a big warm blanket.

Louisa put the parchment aside and loosened her scarf from around her neck. Ooo! A slight shiver ran through her body but no matter in a few seconds she would wear a big thick blanket instead.

Grinning to herself, she held her wand and pointed it at the scarf lying on her desk. Cough cough. "Vestis..vellus." She said quietly….almost instantly the lights went out. Louisa blinked once…twice..thrice. Okay the lights were definitely out! "HELP ME!" The girl –under the huge blanket- screamed terrified. Who knew Louisa, the know-it-all, feared the dark?
Diggy was over by the window. He was paying attention...well he sort of was paying attention, but he looked up with a tiny voice nearly screamed Help. He looked around for the source of the panic and saw a moving mountain of blanket.

He got out of his chair and weaved his way over to the mountain and tugged on the blankets till they fell away to reveal a little Ravenclaw first year. "You ok in there?" he asked with a slight smile on his face. He saw the panicked look on her face. "Hey its ok. We won't let anything happen to you." he said trying to reassure her.

Pretending to wipe the chalkboard clean with the eraser part of her scarf, Destiny missed the question part of the lesson. Ahh well. She had Evelyn, even though they weren't sitting near each other, to copy notes from. And if Evelyn didn't let her copy her notes, Destiny would just steal them. It wouldn't be the first time she stole something from her friend.

Paybacks for Evelyn stealing her last name!

Unwrapping the scarf from her neck, she pushed the parchment off to the side. She did not want a woolly piece of parchment, although, it would be mighty helpful if she fell asleep in class. She'd have to try it before History of Magic because she always fell asleep in that class.

Patting down the scarf so it was flat across the desk, she gave a flick of her wrist so her wand was resting in her right hand. Uh-huh. Now to turn the pencil scarf into a blanket! She could do this; Transfiguration was her favorite subject!

"Vestis vellus!" she said, flourishing her wand in the snazzy little curly q.

Glancing down at her desk, Destin FROWNED at what was sitting there. She would rather have her yellow pencil scarf back instead of that blanket.

Forget the fact that it had a bear head sticking out, it was PINK!

Reverto."

DARK DARK! Where did the lights go to? Her frozen mind didn't have the answer because all the blood rushed to her tongue making her scream really worth being heard. Her hands, cold as ice now, started scratching on the thing that was all around her... not for long though because that thing was thrown away by itself.

Or so she thought.

The little girl jumped away from the spot she was in and instead of running away gracefully she ran into something...or someone. Typical clumsiness! She looked up instantly and before she could frown or cry or whatever, the young man she hit was smiling gently and assuring her.. clearly un-affected by her light bang.

She looked back where she was to find a huge blue blanket on the floor. Back to the boy, "I...di.." She stuttered unable to talk for a second. Swallowing the tears and taking a deep breath she tried again "I didn't mean to do that. I'm sorry." Her cheeks were shade of pink now. It wasn't that she embarrassed herself in front of her classmates that annoyed her rather than that she was rescued by a He-Hormone-Freak.

She never liked those teenager students nor understood them but that boy seemed different helping a younger student like that. She couldn't imagine what else this school would teach her.

Louisa stepped back, took the blanket from the ground and put it on the desk… part of it while the rest dangled from the table. She gestured towards it and then looked up at the boy. "Can you make it into a scarf again please?" Yep! She needed help to do that reversion thing and it wouldn't hurt to cooperate with an older student for once right?

Renesmee layed out her scarf and pulled out her wand. With a curly Q flick and "Vestis Vellus" She said. This was not right now instead of a brown dog she had managed to change the color he was purple now. "Excuse me, Professor, It seems as though I have done something wrong. Can you assist me please?"

be the bre.

Rae could do this, it was transfiguration... Duh. Her confidence definitely helped her performance in this subject, if she had this confidence in everything else, she would be passing. Taking her scarf out of her bag, she laid it on the table. Yesw it was odd, but she found it very humorous when she bought it. laying it flat on the table she then pointed her wand. "Vestis Vellus" she said simply with the right motion of the wand. Now, her humorous scarf was now an interesting looking blanket.

Yeah, it still had the egg on it... But no bacon..... This was slightly depressing....

He had no idea what internal struggle the girl was having under that blanket, but it looked like she was fighting mortal combat with her blanket. He almost felt bad for the blanket.

He patted her gently on the shoulder, "Hey its ok. We all are in school for a reason," he smiled. Why did first years take their mistakes so seriously? He wondered if he had ever been that way. "At least you didn't set anything on fire," he giggled. He used to do that a lot.

He nodded and cast a non-verbal reverse on the blanket. It shivered and shrank back to the scarf she had been working with. "Right as rain now." he told her. "Do you need help with this?" Might as well make sure before he went back to his chair and she got captures by the evil blanket bunnies or something again.

Being buried in blankets was certainly not something Preston assumed would be a problem... but clearly, several were having difficulty. He stood a moment, watching. Surely no one would suffocate and he shouldn't step in and rescue them all the time...

"Thanks Professor Kingsley," Alice said with a smile.

She closed her eyes and pictured the same blanket on Professor Dodson's desk, except it being red and gold striped. Alice cleared her throat firmly before pointing her wand at the scarf.

"Vestis Vellus," Alice said clearly, moving her wand in the curly q motion.

Alice watched excitedly as the scarf changed into a blanket....well not quite. She could help but chuckle at her result. Half of it was still her Gryffindor scarf, but the other half was now a wool blanket with red and gold tie-dye as opposed to stripes.
"Keep it up, you're making good progress."

Once she was done she looked at her scarf. Nothing happened. Hmm..She took another breath before trying for the second time. She repeated the wand movement before saying the incantation "Vestis Vellus!" She saw her scarf turning into a really tiny blanket. "Well. At least it was turned into a blanket, right?" she said to herself.
Professor Kingsley stood back and watched a moment before approaching. "Good. Now, reverto will change it back into your scarf and you can try again."

He paused, considering the blanket. "Imagine what you want it to look like. What it will feel like. And then try again, keeping that picture in mind."

He smiled politely to the firstie --- poor thing was all flushed, haha --- and gently untangled the scarf from her hand to place it on the desk between them. "The reversal spell, after you've tried Vestis vellus, is simply 'Reverto.' Re-ver-to. Make sure you have a clear image of the object's original state in your mind, and then you know, flick your wand at it and it should work."

To demonstrate, Fletcher narrowed his eyes at the girl's long, white scarf-blanket-mabob. He flicked his wand, spoke, "Reverto!" and the abnormally huge scarf once again became normal-sized and neatly folded on the desk.

"See? It's all about visualization. At least, that's what works for me." He gave her a nod. "You should try the Vestis vellus spell again. Try to picture the blanket you want as an outcome as you say the incantation."
Preston nodded approvingly before moving on.

But, for the moment, others were calling for his attention. "Ah, yes. I think this is a problem of concentration, so, let me change this back and we'll start again, ok?"

Preston flicked his wand at the scarf and uttered a quick, reverto. "When you want it to go back, reverto and a flick of your wand should do the trick, so long as you're thinking about what the object looked like before.

As for the blanket, close your eyes. Picture the scarf and then imagine that changing into a blanket. What color is the blanket? How does it feel? Is it heavy? Does it cover you? When you have a good picture in your head, cast again."

Vestis can be used to transfigure items into blankets, cloaks, curtains, and other large, flat pieces of cloth. Vellus gives us the material type - woolen. Concentrating on blanket as opposed to a wrap will make the difference."

Preston paused to let everyone absorb what he had said. Pulling his own scarf out from behind his desk, he rested it on the desk. Black, with dark grey stripes, he folded it into thirds.

"The movement is a simple flourish sort of curly-q," he added, demonstrating as he looped his wand in the air.

"Vestis vellus," he intoned, transforming his scarf into a large, blanket with fringe, folded neatly on his desk. Setting down his wand, he shook out his blanket. It was large enough to wrap around his entire body, and warm enough to provide protection from the cold outdoors.

"I don't expect you to be able to produce a folded blanket, necessarily. You may want to spread out around the room as some of them may be quite large as you get the hang of it."

"You may begin practicing. Recall the reversion spell from last term -- new students, please ask an older student -- and practice several times, altering size and weight with your focus."[/COLOR]
As the professor moved on with the lesson, Simon paid careful attention to what was being said and shown. Vestis vellus, he repeated to himself as he copied it into his notes as well as what the words meant in terms of applying the spell to other things. Here goes nothing, he added unfolding his scarf in front of him so he could practice as told.

"Vestis vellus!" he cast doing the motion in a q as best he could as he pointed his wand at the scarf. Having seen the work of the other students he was trying hard not to let the spell transfigure it too big resulting in a small blanket that just barely covered his desk.

"Reverto..." he answered quietly bringing the scarf back in normal form as he mulled over what he did wrong before trying again.

...

Riiigghhht.

Writing down the incantation and wand movement, Evelyn sat back and tapped her quill on her desk, watching the demonstration Professor Ruffles was doing before glancing around the room.

Right. Wait, they were starting now?

Slowly turning her gaze back to her Slytherin scarf, the fourth year closed her notebook, and moved it to the side of her table, before putting her scarf in the middle. Taking out her wand, for a moment, she took a quick peak over at Destiny...

....

Bahahaha! What kind of blanket was that!?

Snickering, the Slytherin turned back to her own scarf, trying to think of some woolen blanket or such. Or just a woolen blanket in general. Just as long as it wasn't pink. "Vestis vellus." she said, creating the rather simple flourish and curly-q wand movement in front of her towards the scarf.

Well, it wasn't folded per-say... but it was sorta like her original scarf. Mwahaha! She had a Slytherin Blanket now! Beaming at her messy blanket, since she didn't care if it was folded or not (because obviously a folded blanket wouldn't make someone WARM, pffffft), she was just about to revert it back but...

Naaah. She liked it like a blanket. Much warmer.

SPOILER!!: Professor and Fletcher

"Give it another try, Mister Lockhart," he said as he passed by. "Take somet ime to visualize the results."

Approaching the first year, Preston smiled. "That's a good start. Now, really focus and imagine in your mind what the finished blanket looks like. Don't try for a folded one yet, or you'll likely end up with a hole in the middle, but visualize the end result."

He tapped the scarf with his wand. "Reverto." And it was back to it's original form.

"That's the reversion spell. It's simple enough. Just give a quick flick with your wand and re-ver-TO, and it should go right back."

Approaching the Ravenclaw, Kingsley nodded approvingly. "Well done, Mister Stern. I imagined the older students would find this easier. Do try several? Different sizes, and all that."

Preston nodded as he moved around. "Good, Mister Fletcher. Just a little more concentration on the size."

He was about to say more when someone entered the room...

Late.

"Two points for tardiness, Miss Granger. Do try to be on time." His voice was clipped.

(ooc: If you're just coming in to a lesson after it starts, just play as if your character has been there the whole time.)

How fortunate that Professor Kingsley was standing right by Mister Fletcher.

"It's all about concentration, my dear," he said. "You need to picture the end result and, if it helps, focus on how your object will change. You've gotten the longer. Now for the wider and heavier."

He smiled before turning to the Hufflepuff. "Mister Fletcher, could you show Miss Hollingberry the reversion spell?"

He was a firm believer that teaching others reinforced concepts for the student doing the teaching.

"Good!" Preston walked over to the girl, wand out. "Now, to change it back into a scarf and try again, simply flick your wand and say re-ver-TO while imagining the scarf going back to its original. Then you can try again with the blanket."

Preston stood back so that, if she needed any help, he was still right there. "When you try the blanket again, take a moment to really think about what it looks like, feels like. How heavy is it? What size is it? It might look good, but it might be thin and not warm at all if you don't."

Turning back, he noticed that the tardy Miss Granger also lacked a scarf. Sighing, he walked over to her.

"Escarpa," he intoned, drawing a line in the air with his wand. Fluttering down to her desk, a thin cotton scarf piled itself on the surface.

"You can use that. Please return it to me when you are done."

Concentration...concentration. This stuff wasn't that different from kendo. Perhaps she had been approaching magic the wrong way. She had used great concentration when fighting that boggart in Charms with Jenny and she had really taken her time to visualize what she wanted it to turn into before she had cast her spell. Transfiguration seemed to be the same. "Thank you professor, I will try harder," she smiled with just a hint of nervousness.

She then turned her attention to the boy she had asked for help as he seemingly effortlessly changed her monster of a scarf back to it's normal state and in a neat little pile on the desk. "Woooooooooow," she whisperer under her breath. "Thanks," she smiled holding her wand out again. "Concentration....visualization....I think I can handle that."

She closed her eyes and visualized a giant knitted blanket that her mother had made. It was the same blanket that she had slept with for years and years and held the strongest impact for her. After she had fixed that image in her mind, she them imagined it folded in a nicely on her desk. The image planted firmly in her mind, she repeated the wand movement and said, "Vestis vellus," still with her eyes closed.

She slowly opened her eyes to see that the blanket was now resting on her desk. A huuuuuuuuuge smile grew across her face. "I did it!"

He nodded and cast a non-verbal reverse on the blanket. It shivered and shrank back to the scarf she had been working with. "Right as rain now." he told her. "Do you need help with this?" Might as well make sure before he went back to his chair and she got captures by the evil blanket bunnies or something again.

''Thank you professor" She said as she gave him a nice smile.

She closed her eyes she pictured the blanket she wanted to have in front of her. It was just big enough to cover her and still have room to cuddle with it. It was black and had white stripes down it. As she pictured her blanket she made sure it was a solid picture.
She was going to try and go big for a folded blanket she pictured the blanket folded and with her wand she made a curly Q and said "Vestis Vellus".

She had done it a perfectly folded blanket that was black and white striped llay perfectly on the table. She couldnt hold in her excitment that she did it and let out a "Yes" not to loud but it was heard.

"Thanks Professor Kingsley," Alice said, before casting reverto on her scarf, it shifting back to its original form.

Alice closed her eyes again and visualized how she wanted the blanket to look.

"Alright, here we go," Alice mumbled to herself.

"Vestis Vellus!" Alice said confidently. She looked down at her scarf and smiled widely as she saw that it was now a red and gold striped wool blanket.

"Professor Kingsley! I think I've got it!!" Alice said, holding up her new blanket with pride.

He turned to look at Professor Kingsley, "Oh yes sir." he said chiding himself for doing the spell for the first year. She was there to learn to cast by herself after all. "Will do that in the future sir," he smiled at him.

He twirled his wand and smiled at the first year. "Its called a nonverbal spell. You will learn a little bit in your fifth year but you really learn it in your sixth year. It takes a lot of concentration at first, but then it just gets easier as you do it. But don't try it yet, you might put yourself in a coma." he warned her. Mostly it would give her a seriously nasty headache, but he didn't want to be the one responsible for hurting a first year.

Diggy nodded and moved back a little bit to give her some room to work. "I'll stay right here to help you if you need me too," he reassured her with a smile. "Go ahead and give it a go," he urged her gently.

He was awfully right. And Danika will take his advice. Reaction time, of course, it didn't cross her mind to use Transfiguration back then, even if the vanishing did occur.

The girl nodded and listened to what they were going to be working today.

Oh, yes, she knew that one. If she wasn't right then it was Sandra the one who'd taught her that spell. They didn't practice it much, though. Then again, they were well equipped with all kinds of fur back at school, and being from the North meant they were always prepared for the cold.

She took Sandra's scarf and focused even more than usual, why? One, it wasn't her scarf, though that wasn't the real concern. Two, and the real concern, the non-verbal part, of course. 'Vestis vellus' and all people could see was the wand movement before the scarf was turned into a yellow blanket, a fluffy one, too.

Not being at Hogwarts last year, she didn't know what spell they were talking about, but it must have been 'Reverto', and if not, that was the one she was going to use. Until...she heard the verbal cast of the spell and knew for sure that was the one.

Another flourish at the wand and the scarf was back in sight, the yellow fluffy blanket gone. She wouldn't mention it, but she wanted the blanket back in sight.

Fee looked at the professor nodding her head. Woah thatd had been embarassing. She sould better concentrate more on what he was saying.
Aiming her wand at the scarf she took a deep breath. She could do that, How hard could it be?!
"Vestis vellus"

The scarf immediately turned into a huge blanket. Oh yaaay, this was easy. So now it was a blanket and how to return it into her scarf now?

She looked a little confused trough the room.

Different sizes? Well, he could see the sense in that; no use transfiguring a blanket sized for a king bed when you were trying to put it on a single. After casting "Reverto", and returning his blanket to its original scarf form, he thought about what size he'd like to try next...

...after folding the scarf, that is.

"Vestis vellus." The folded scarf didn't really grow in height, but it got much wider, and Kellen set down his wand to shake it out and have a look. Towel-sized; also known as a foot-warmer blanket. And much easier to fold up again than the tent-sized blanket that girl over there had just transfigured.

Easy for him to say, he already knew how to do it.

But, yes, focusing. He needed to focus and to visualize, what? A blanket? Or the transformation?

It was better to do BOTH. Because he was cool like that.

Before starting over with the spell, the boy sighed, and then it came the flourish-whatever movement of the wand, "Vestis vellus" he said, all his focus placed on visualizing the blanket...the blank---Oh my Gilderoy!

Eyes widening slightly, his blue/purple or purple/blue, whatever, scarf was now half a blanket, half a purple blanket, and that couldn't be good.

Eyes narrowed at the creation, he flourished his wand once more, "Reverto!" if his scarf wasn't back to normal, then he'd give this whole class up after OWLs. But...it was back to normal, haha. More Transfiguration for him.

His eyes couldn't help but fall onto the girl, who seemed younger than him, that managed to transfigure (successfully) the scarf into a blanket.

He'll get there. No problem.

"You have to use 'Reverto'" he said, nodding approvingly, and then proceeded to embarrass try the blanket spell once more to show her how 'Reverto' was used.

"Vestis vellus" he said, and did the right wand movement with his eyes closed, only to open them and find out that his scarf was now a purple blanket, oh-so-very-soft purple blanket, YES! He did it! "Now Reverto" he nodded at the girl, "It's simple" for her, because she'd mastered the blanket one, "You make a flourish movement, and then say 'Reverto'...pointing at the blanket, of course" he said, gesturing towards the blanket. But since that was all about visualization..."Reverto!" he said, and he had his purple/blue scarf back. "See?" he was the happiest boy ever.

The small puff had kept quiet for much of the lesson, taking notes, swinging her legs, and that awesome flavored gum she was chewing had kept her quiet. Certainly didn't mean she was any less excited about the lesson.

They were going to be transfiguring their scarfs into blankets? Sweetness. That will come in handy when she's camping.....when she's of age. That was a while from now, but she could still use it while in the castle, it was still winter.

Freeeeezing cold winter.

Taking down the last notes about the spell, she watched Kingsley demonstrate before exchanging her quill for her wand. The Hufflepuff scarf sat in front of her on the desk, but she wanted to practice the incantation first. After swallowing her gum of course.

"Veeeeestis veeeeellus.....vestiiiis vellussss......vvvvvestis vellllllus...." Practice, practice, practice. She continued to pronounce the incantation for another minute or two until she was comfortable with it.

Time for some wand work. Ceasing the slow twirls of her wand, she practiced the curly-q moment several times before musing over what kind of blanket she wanted. Hmmm.

"Reverto..." he answered quietly bringing the scarf back in normal form as he mulled over what he did wrong before trying again.
Professor Kingsley continued his rounds taking note of the efforts of the fifth year. He had no doubt that he would get it, and so continued on.

...

Preston stopped and considered the Slytherin. "Well done. Now, revert it back and see if you can't produce a slightly different blanket. Thicker, perhaps, or larger?"

Slytherin. Even more surprised, why wasn't he throwing nasty things at her and see how firsties would react just like that cocky boy! She pushed the thought away quickly not wanting to corrupt her mood.

"How did you do that?!" She gasped and asked with her eyes wide open staring down at the scarf. "You didn't speak!" And she almost jumped from excitement. You can't blame a firstie.. they were easily hyper-excited.

Looking at the teacher she behaved herself and just nodded at his comment about him trying the spell again loudly although she'd prefer that nonverbal way, hehe. "I think it'd be more appropriate if you stay near while I try the spell again.." She muttered and then added with lower voice. "..please." She wouldn't beg those older students to stick with her mind you.
Preston smiled, before continuing on. Mister Greenwood seemed to be handling helping her well enough.

"Well done! Can you revert it back to your scarf and try again?"

He stayed nearby to see if she needed help with the spell.

Preston smiled and continued on. She was getting the hang of it and he watched to see if she would try again.

Turning, Preston clapped his hands lightly. "Yes, you have. See if you can make something a little different, now? Larger or smaller or thicker or thinner."

Preston continued to watch the interaction but did not intervene.

Professor Kingsley nodded appreciatively at the visiting champion.

Preston watched, nodding. He had had no doubt about the boy's ability to do the spell.

"Try it nonverbally, Mister Stern?"

"Vestis vellus"

The scarf immediately turned into a huge blanket. Oh yaaay, this was easy. So now it was a blanket and how to return it into her scarf now?

She looked a little confused trough the room.

"Excellent, both of you. And thank you, Mister Lockhart, for showing her the spell. Keep up the good work. Both of you."

Hm, maybe she should have thought of visualization in the first place. As she tried to imagine what her blanket would look like, she pointed her wand at the scarf again. "Vestis vellus!" Jenny gasped; right in front of her was a big, thick blue fleece blanket! Oh yay, it worked!
"You're quite welcome," he responded, watching her complete the spell again. "Much better."

Hmmm.

Preston smiled as he moved up to the front of the room, taking note of the girl's effort at pronunciation.

-----

"I see many of you are having success. Older students who are finding this easy, try it nonverbally, and others, keep trying to vary the type of blanket you are creating. We will move on to a new spell shortly."

Meh? Revert it back!?

But she didn't WANT to! "Aright then..." Pffft.

Aw well. Best not ruffle up Professor Ruffles' ruffles...omg that was such a tongue twister. It almost caused her to smirk and giggle slightly, though she caught it just at the right moment. Don't want to look crazy or anything!

Hehehehehehe.

"Reverto." she muttered, thinking of her Slytherin scarf, and presto! Slytherin SCARF instead of blanket. The reverting back she could handle. It was more the changing it INTO something that was the slight problem. Unless she accidentally did it while thinking of something else, then it was almost perfect. Weird.

Alright. Different blanket. Larger, and such. Can do! Maybe. "Vestis vellus." she said a bit more clearly and louder then the previous time, with the flourish and curly-q wand movement. Well now, it wasn't a Slytherin blanket, but it was still different! Even if it wasn't larger or thicker.

Lots of poka dots that was for sure.

Freya nodded when Professor Kingsley gave her the instruction to change it back to her scarf. She pointed her wand to her tiny blanket "Reverto!" and the tiny blanket changed back to her Slytherin scarf. "That's kinda easy." she mumbled. She imagined how the blanket look like in her mind. She kept the picture in her mind and pointed her wand to her scarf doing the flourish and curly-q movement with her wand before saying the incantation "Vestis Vellus!" she saw her scarf turned to green blanket. "I did it!" she said cheerfully
