Set-up as it has been the majority of the term, the desks are once again along perimeter of the room. A large section is, however, roped off, and houses numerous small trees in pots, as if that corner were a forest of sorts. In another section of the room, large piles of large leaves. about the size of a grown man's hand, as well as gnarled, knotty branches three to four feet long and thick as a baseball bat, lay piled up.
The board at the front of the room simply reads the following:
Quote:
Class Agenda:
New spells
In-Class Final exam
Please take one branch and one leaf from the pile back to your seat.
Professor Kingsley stands near the door to greet you, and direct you to take a seat.
ooc: There will be full participation points for class practice, etc as in a normal lesson AND additional final exam points once we move into that section.
We have moved on to the Final
Quote:
Preston wandered the room, nodding at the good work the students were doing.
"You may keep practicing, but we are moving into the portion of our class that will count toward your exam. You will need to leave your belongings, except you wand, at your seat."
Flicking his wand at the board, the instructions wrote themselves:
Using the spells we learned in class, protect yourself from the elements, create shelter, and generate heat. You may also use other spells you know, but remember that you are being graded on how well you demonstrate your ability to use the spells taught.
The following can be found through the room for your use:
A cluster of potted trees, sturdy enough not the bend if needed for support. You may break off twigs from their branches. Worms can also be found in their soil.
A pile of knotty, gnarled tree branches: wet
Scraps of fabric about the size of a scarf
Shoelaces
Vines
Another flick of his wand to activate charms that had been placed before class, Preston changed the room, significantly. The room has been charmed to resemble outdoors in early winter. The floor is muddy and some parts are covered with snow. The air is cold and moist, as if it might rain at any moment. For safety, the room has been charmed to prevent stray fire.
"You may continue your practice with temran madera and palus, at your discretion given the change in conditions, before moving onto the final. There will also be a written assignment to complete after you build your shelter that you may owl to me. Once you begin working on your shelter, please, no collaborating with others. When you have completed your final, you may leave."
ooc: Take your time moving onto the final, but please do not post practicing AND your final in the same post. You can finish your final in one post if you'd like, or you can use several. This thread (and the final) will close at 9pm EST on Sunday, November 21st (one week and one hour from right now). This portion is worth 25 points and the written (posted on the Transfiguration notice board) is worth another 15.

A board.
Arya needed to transform her tiny thing of a leaf, into a board. Least the wand movement was simple. A nice horizontal line. The incantation though. That was a mouthful. Moreso than the others they had learned this term at least.
"Teeemran maaaadera...temrrrran maderrrra..." The repetition of the spell continued until the girl was comfortable enough with the incantation. Poking at her leaf, she pictured instead a wooden board. Keeping hold of the image, she drew a short horizontal line.
"Temran madera."
The leaf jiggled slightly before transforming into a light colored wooden board. Nowhere near as long as Kingsley though. Only about half a foot it was. But it was WOODEN. Solid lightly colored wood. So Arya was no phased by the size.
She simply untransformed the leaf and started again.

"Many of you have been successful, so I will introduce the second spell for this class. Another option when creating shelter is to use poles to support fabric, or even to just provide better framing for boards."
Levitating a branch over to his desk, he set it down. "You can use this spell on branches, drumsticks, lengths of vine, even fabric if you needed to, to create poles. It's simplest with branches, however, and those would be the most likely supplies you'd have if you were stranded in the wood."
He levitated the branch for everyone to see. "Start with wooden poles, but as you improve, you may also be able to vary the material, which could be useful in any number of cases."
Casting a quick fixate on the branch to suspend it in mid-air, he continued. "A simple flick and Palus is all you need. Just make sure to focus on smooth, even poles."
Demonstrating, the branch, suspended in air, became a long wooden pole, not unlike one that could be used, with others, to make a tee-pee.
"Practice both spells and after some time, we'll move onto the final."

grabbing his twig and placing it on the table with a flick of the wand "Palus" the twig stretched in to a pole but looked more like a pool cue, thinking to his self to focus he tries to do it again "Palus"as the twig stretches it keeps going at 10 ft it stops looking this time like the pole that a pole vaulter woud use
"Try again," Preston called to her. "You can work on the size with your concentration."
-----------
"Keep practicing," he said, continuing his walk. "There is a limit as to how large you can make the board just by concentrating, but that's going to be dependent on your skill and the leaf itself. So keep at it."
As he walked, he continued to speak. "You could use these boards to create a quick lean-to, using the nails and hammer spells we learned last class. You could use them as a floor, to keep your body away from the wet ground. You could do any number of things with them."
He stopped in his tracks, though. "Remember, though, that this isn't permanent. I would caution strongly against using these materials to build structures that you need to last."
"Yes, Professor." Freya said nodding her head when she heard Professor Kingsley asked her to try again. Work the size with concentration the Professor said. Okay here we go. She pointed her wand to the wooden board "Reverto!" the wooden board changed back to leaf. Work the size with concentration she repeated what the Professor said in her mind over and over again. She tried to concentrate and pictured a wooden board in her mind with the size, shape, width, and the strength that she want with her wooden board. She repeated the wand movement before saying the incantation "Temran Madera!" with a clear voice. She saw the leaf slowly turned into a solid wooden board and it was almost as long as Professor Kingsley.
Eino let out a heavy breath. Everything seemed like so much work! Transfiguring this and that, and he was having trouble remember old spells and memorizing the new ones, focusing on the outcome of the objects, and then the Professor reminded him of the final and he began to panic. Just breathe... He thought to himself and he took a minute to cool off. Palus... Smooth and even poles... Palus... Smooth and even poles... He thought of the incantation and focused as hard as he could and finally he flicked his wand. "Palus!" The twig before him started to stretch and its surface to smoothen and when it finally stopped the pole didn't look too bad. Regardless, he grew more and more nervous by the second. He just wanted to take the final and get it over it, then continue practicing and building a shelter, that part was fun.
They were supposed to do what exactly? Couldn't he just start with something simple?
Right. Putting the branch aside, Treyen took the little leaf with extra confidence, because things were going to work out today, right? Right!
Temran madera. Okay.
Now. The boy did NOT close his eyes, because he wasn't planning on doing so. Not now, and hopefully never again in Transfiguration. Wand at hand, Treyen first tried to get his mind as blank as possible before starting to visualize the wooden board that should be able to make an appearance soon. It seemed to be in his mind, all the characteristics of the board, he only needed to visualize the leaf turning into one.
Breathe in, breathe out. Horizontal line. Leaf. "Temran madera" he said, eyes wide open. And then...well, the leaf certainly changed, though it didn't seem to have the strong consistence of a board, it looked like a wooden leaf truth be told, but the boy was still smiling because no matter what the outcome had been he didn't close his eyes to make it happen. Ha.
"Reverto" he said, pointing his wand at the leafy board. He was going for wooden now. Not leafy.
Visualization again. Focus again. Mind as blank as possible (without non-related stuff). Consistency visualization, too. "Temran madera" he said again, as he made an horizontal line with his wand and watched while the leaf slowly but safely turned into a wooden board...and almost like the one he'd imagined! The difference? The color had been a darker shade of brown, but lightness worked just as good.
The smile on his face was proof of his contentment with this spell. For real.
And...now there was a second one. Palus. For some reason it seemed a familiar spell, but maybe he'd heard something that sounded like it? Yeah, definitely.
Mmmhmm. Eyes on Kingsley as he demonstrated. Smooth and even poles. Got it.
Taking the forgotten branch with his hand, the boy took his wand with the other one and tried his best to focus on even, smooth poles...except, he had no idea how to focus on that. Oh, well, he'll try. And succeed. Possibly.
"Palus" he said, after flicking his wand once. Eyes ever watchful of any changes and...it sort of changed, the branch got bigger and smoother, but he wanted to get it better. "Reverto" and he was using that spell a lot, honestly.
He'll try one more time, because he wanted an even and smooth pole, just like the one Kingsley made happen.

Pausing, he flicked his wand at the board, listing the spells from previous classes.
"We haven't, however, really covered shelter. That is part of today's lesson and part of your final." He made his way to the pile of branches and leaves and gathered some for himself. "We're going to learn how to turn objects around you into materials you can use to construct a shelter."
"You will be able to use these spells with the ropes, nails and even blankets to provide shelter. The first is turning leaves into lumber. This is different from focalia in that the othe spell creates bundles of dry firewood. This will give you boards and planks."
Preston drew a small horizontal line in the air with his wand. "Temran madera"
The leaf settled on his desk transformed into a wooden board about three feet long.
"This would work with similar object as well. So, everyone take your leaves and try the spell to make a board."

Well.
Fiiiiiine.
Making sure that the Professor wasn't looking, Mia picked up her stick and poked Fletcher in the ribs with it.
There!
See how you like it.
What the...?
Not only did she have to transfigure her leaf which by the way was big enough to be a shelter all on it's own, but she had to try and remember the incantation.
"I can't even pronounce those words." She whined dramatically while picking up her wand and looking at it with trepidation. She was going to blow something up, she could just tell.
Drawing a horizontal like with her wand, Mia spoke the incantation. "Terman modera." Sparks flew out of her wand and landed on her leaf and a couple may have just flown over to Fletcher and landing on his robes.
Mia picked up her leaf and there were at least half a dozen sizeable holes in it.
Well at least she hadn't burnt it completely.

"Geez, don't be such a drama queen," Fletcher whined right back at Mia. "You're grating my ears."
And abusing my ribs, and trying to set my robes on fire....
Fletcher sniggered at Mia's attempt to get back at him and set to work on turning his leaves to lumber. Oh he'd show her, he would.
"Temran madera!" the boy cast, drawing a long horizontal line in the air over his leaves so that his wand hand passed all the way across and over Mia's face. Fletcher had never heard of personal space bubbles, apparently.
The spell did work, though, as there was now a nice, cleanly-cut 2x4 sitting on his desk. Perfect. Now what else were they supposed to do? Conjure a cover? More lumber? Mehhhhh Fletcher didn't want to build an entire structure here in the classroom... that would just be a waste of effort.
Wrinkling his nose in thought, the Hufflepuff had an idea. He looked around to make sure Professor Kingsley wasn't in the vicinity and then quietly levitated his branch up to hover over the center of Mia's head. He fixated it there, a spell he was quite familiar with these days, and then loudly cast,
"PALUS!!!!!"
The hovering branch above Mia's head started to grow, quickly, into a long, thin and flexible tent pole. Of course it had to poke her in the head several times as it grew until Fletcher flicked his wand away and caught the stick. Ha ha it had worked.

Okay!
Placing the leaf on her desk, Destiny used the palms of her hands to try and flatten the edges out a little bit. Maybe if it was flat as a board, it would be easier to transfigure into a board.
Snort. She was probably wrong.
With that done..ish, she drew her wand and watched the people around her for a second before attempting the spell. Seeing Arya succeed, she decided this would be a piece of the most chocolaty chocolate cake. A quick glare in Raccoon Girl's direction just for the fun of glaring at her, Destiny moved her wand in a small horizontal line. "Temran madera!" she said, and watching as the board on her desk wiggled and changed, she FROWNED when it was finished. A cube? She made a wooden CUBE!? Pfffft! She could totally throw it at Arya..
But she wouldn't! Not with Kingsley in the classroom. She had a feeling he was watching her extra hard for some reason. Hmm.
A quick 'reverto', the cube was back in the form of a leaf, and..it was not flat anymore!? WHY! The leaf hated her or something. Glaring at Arya again, since she didn't want to take her anger out on the poor leaf! she once again moved her wand in a small horizontal line. "Temran madera!!"
The leaf wiggled once more, and when it finished, she was PLEASED to see a thin, long board on her desk. And HA! It was just a little longer than Arya's..not by much but..TAKE THAT Raccoon Girl!

Still beaming over the fact that her board was longer than Arya's, Destiny watched Kingsley as he moved on to the next spell. This one seemed boring. The wand movement was so LAME. A flick! Pffft.
But, no matter what the wand movement was, she had to practice. Especially if she wanted to make a pole and poke Arya with it. Not that she would poke her..not with Kingsley in the classroom. She had a feeling..nevermind.
Moving her oh so awesome board out of the way, she placed the oh so heavy branch onto her desk. This pole..was going to be heavy. Maybe she'd be able to take it with her after class. She could poke Arya all the way to her common room.
Evil thoughts aside, Destiny levitated the branch and with a 'fixate,' it hovered right above her desk. If her 'fixate' charm failed.. "Palus!" she said, and giving her wand a flick, she watched as the branch started to wonkify itself into a pole. A nice, small but wooden pole.
Hehe, she could javelin throw it in Raccoon Girl's direction.

Preston had missed the jostling at the question, and only barely caught the stick-poke out of the corner of his eye. Registering it, he said nothing, resolving instead to keep a closer eye on the two in the back.
And it was a good thing, as the sparks flew.
Vanishing them neatly, and sparing any singes to people, Preston shook his head. "Some more concentration, please, Miss Gibbons."

Mia jumped at the sound of the Professor's voice addressing her and she gave him a small sheepish look. "Yes Sir." She said meekly turning back to her now restored leaf.
Screwing up her face in concentration and sticking her tongue between her teeth, Mia drew another horizontal line with her wand. "Temran Madera." She said with as much conviction as she could muster.
At least this time there had been no sparks from her wand and she had managed to perfect the spell.
Well sort of.
There was now a board but it a big long green stem hanging out the end of it. It was better than nothing. She stopped to listen as the Professor went on to explain the next spell and Mia groaned. She hadn't even gotten this one down pat and they were moving onto the next one.

Hehe...she knew how much he hated his name. Mia would do more than grate on his ears if he didn't stop annoying her. What she was going to do, she had absolutely no idea but she would think of something.
Just as she was trying to practice her spell work again, all of a sudden there was a hand in front of her face and she was almost tempted to bite him but Merlin only knew where his hand had been.
The boy was disgusting.
And again as she went back to practicing, out of the corner of her eye she could see what Fletcher was doing and before she could DO anything there was a pole poking her in the head.
That does it.
Mia threw down her wand and raised her hand in the air. "SIRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! Duncan stole the pole I just conjured."

James slouched in his seat and perved on Marie a bit, but mostly he was thinking about all the little tips that the professor had dished out to the kids that were having trouble or asking questions. He filed them away and cast reverto on his leaf!board, ready to try again. Once it was a leaf again he focused his attention on the leaf, wondering if the kind of leaf effected the kind of wood. Like, would an oak leaf turn into a maple board and vice versa? Would it make it easier or anything like that if it was the same kind of tree? He thought about the length and the thickness and slouched in his seat even more, then he cast on his leaf again.
Temran madera.
This time he was satisfied with the length of it and gave it a little quiet knock. Yep. Sturdy. Would it float? All the same properties of actual wood? Aside from the whole not permanent thing?
He wondered if it was spells like this that were the sort of thing that allowed for fake wands and all. That'd be pretty dangerous, he supposed.
Now for the other spell. Making poles. Flick and Palus? Jimmy listened attentively, even though he wasn't looking at the professor and apparently was bored or distracted or both.
You could probably use that one for fishing, right? He concentrated on what the pole ought to look like and then...
Nyeeehhhh.
Jimmy cringed, his ears ringing from Mia's yelling. Was she always so whiny? Granted most of the time that they had hung out.... it had been in silence. Mouths doing other things and all. Mouth plugging was better than ear plugging.
He stopped practicing for a moment and looked over at Fletcher and Mia, one eyebrow up. He snickered to himself a bit and then went back to practicing, while trying to make it look like he wasn't really doing much at all.

Alice listened and watched carefully as Professor Kingsley demonstrated the next spell of the lesson. She moved aside her newly formed board, setting it down on the ground next to her feet and replaced the space with her branch.
"Wingardium leviosa," Alice said, levitating the branch in to the air high enough and far enough away from her that there was plenty of room in case the spell didn't work quite as planned.
"Fixate," Alice said as soon as it was a good height.
"Alright...here goes nothing," she mumbled to herself. Alice visioned the smoothest wooden pole that she could think of. "Palus," Alice said with a gentle flick.
Alice smiled, somewhat pleased with herself as she watched the branch starting to become a smooth pole. Things definitely seemed to be going quicker and smoother with this than with trying to turn the scarf into a blanket!

Preston blinked a bit. "That's rather sophisticated for a temporary shelter in the woods. But if you're looking to create a structure for say, a play or a prop for a day, I'd say to focus creating a good board and cutting it later."
He would have said more, but his attention was drawn by the shenanigans of the Hufflepuffs in the back.

"Oh shut up Duuuuncaaaan."
Mwhahaha.
He'd caught the poking out of the corner of his eye before and this latest was beyond. "ENOUGH!"
Preston made his way over to them. "Opposite sides of the room." He pointed at Fletcher and to one side, and then to Mia and the other. "If you so much as look at each other cross-eyed, I will ask you to leave before the final."
Pausing, he leaned closer to Fletcher. "Unacceptable. Completely unacceptable."

Preston walked, watching the students make good progress.
Freya listened carefully when Professor Kingsley demonstrating the next spell. Oh now they gonna transfigured a branch into a wooden pole?? Okie dokie..!! She levitated the branch until it was on top her desk "Fixate!" she said in a loud and clear voice. The branch stayed still in mid-air on top of her desk. "Okay now the spell." she said to herself. She concentrated to picture a smooth wooden pole in her mind. After she get the pictured in her mind, she flicked her wand "Palus!" Freya grinned widely when she successfully turned her branch into a wooden pole. Guess this time she was concentrated enough so she could transfigured the branch in her first trial.
Once more, as the professor began to talk, Melanie's eyes shifted from her wooden board to the front of the classroom. She tried to focus on what the he was saying, though some of it just went over her head. At least she caught the incantation and wand movement for the next spell, though. Melanie set the wooden board aside, propping it up against her desk so it was out of her way. Then she got her branch out.
Right. Now to concentrate again.
Thinking of her goal to turn the branch into a pole, Melanie flicked her wand and spoke the incantation. "Palus." Slowly, the branch began to change. Frowning slightly, when it was done, Melanie picked up the product of her effort and examined it. She supposed it could be considered a pole. In all honesty, it resembled a straw more closely, though.
Sigh. ... "Reverto."
Melanie visualized the transformation she wanted the branch to make again, taking a bit longer than before. Then she tried the spell a second time. "Palus." she said, flicking her wand sharply. This time, before Melanie's eyes, the branch got a bit rounder... maybe a little longer... and smoother too.
It wasn't perfect, but it was definitely an improvement from her first attempt.
Preston walked, watching the students make good progress.

Seeing that she hadn't made much progress to making a board, she decided to practice the board making spell agai just to see if it was better. Cocentrating well on the shape, size, texture everything. Getting a clear picture "Terman Madera" the leaf formed a board this time when she picked up the board it didnt crumble and it was the perfect length.
The next spell was to make a pole with a stick. "This cannot be that hard. They already look like poles.'' Listening to the professor on how to conjuer the pole, she begin to concentrate on what it need to look like. After he was done with his explaination, she decided to try the spell placig her stick on the desk "Palus". This time she was so concentrated on what the poe must look like the stick turned into the best wood pole of the class. "All I needed was some concentration" she sadi and gave a laugh under her breathe.

Marie smiled at Jimmy when he winked at her. Yeah, that would never get old.
Trying her best to pay attention to the professor and what was going on in class she looked up front. So they were going to change a leaf into a piece of wood? Wouldn't it have made more sense to use the branch for that? You know since it was already wood. Who was she to argue this point though? She would just give it a go and try to turn the leaf into a board.
Moving the branch to the floor she placed the leaf in the middle of her desk. She then removed her wand from its holster. The incantation and wand movement seemed easy enough so hopefully she wouldn't have any trouble with this... especially since Jimmy seemed to be watching her.
Taking a deep breath and then slowly letting it out she drew a horizontal line with her wand as she said the incantation, "Temran madera." She watched as the leaf laying there did actually turn into a piece of wood. So it was a bit smaller than some of the others but she had made it change. Maybe she could make it a little bigger if she concentrated harder on it. Using reverto she turned the wood back into a leaf. After taking another deep breath and clearing her mind of everything except a picture of what she wanted the leaf to look like she gave it another try. "Temran madera." She said as she once again drew a horizontal line with her wand.
YES! This time the board was bigger and better looking. She looked back over at James and smiled. Thank Merlin she got it right and didn't make herself look like a fool in front of him.
Turning back to the professor she listened as he explained what they were going to do with the branch. Okay, turn a stick into a pole. Well that made more sense than turning a leaf into a piece of wood.
She moved the board to the floor and put the branch back on her desk. Hmm, maybe she should levitate it in the air like the professor did so she doesn't hit anyone with it. Grabbing her wand again she did just that, then used fixate to keep it in place. Now that the easy part was over she needed to actually change it to a pole. She stole another quick glance over at Jimmy not missing the fact that he was again looking at her. She gave him a quick smile then went back to work. Concentrating on what this pole was going to look like she gave her wand a flick as she said "Palus."
Sure enough, there before her levitated a pole made of wood. It looked a little rough though so she revertoed it back to the branch and kept practicing. Soon enough she would have a perfect looking pole. Not as perfect looking as the 'Claw sitting next to her though but perfect enough to use it for this class.

Why was that weirdo hobo staring at her??
Arya had noticed Destiny kept glaring at her while she continued to practice transfiguring her leaf into a board and decided to ignore her for the moment. Ignore. Ignore. IGNORE.
She was probably jealous of Arya's mad transfiguration skills. Glancing down at her wooden board she couldn't help but smirk, sending her own little glare back at Destiny. Yea, she was jealous.
The young girl reverted her wooden board and turned her attention to the professor. Jotting down the notes for the new spell before placing a medium sized branch on her desk.
This was gonna be much easier than the previous spell, but that didn't stop her from repeating the incantation mentally, wand slowly twirling between her fingers. Palus. Paaaaaaalus. Paluuuuus. When she was done with that, she gave the branch a few pokes before levitating just below eye level. Quickly fixating it in the air.
After a moment of wand twirling and visualizing a wooden pole, she casually flicked her wand at the branch.
"Palus."
The branch gave a little shake before lengthening, slowly transforming into a wooden pole. Tilting her head to the side, she poked the pole, a satisfied smile crossing her face. Her eyes miiiight have flicked over to Destiny. Might.
Her pole was so not that much bigger.

EEEEP!!
The Professor looked really mad and it was all Fletcher's fault. Mia picked up her wand, branch and leaf board along with her bag. And with one last dirty look at gross boy she moved to the other side of the classroom.
She dumped all her stuff onto her new desk and plopped down into the chair. Pointing her wand at her branch, she said a quiet. "Fixate." The branch was now suspended in mid air and then taking a deep breath and trying her hardest on focusing making a smooth pole.
Mia gave her wand a simple flick, "Palus." She waited a moment before looking at her branch. Well she had almost gotten it right but there were still a few knobbly bits on it.
Sighing deeply she dropped her head onto the desk with a thump. She was never going to get this.

Salander nodded his head at the Professor's suggestion. So many things to concentrate on, no wonder he was having a hard time. He had trouble just focusing on one thing. He accio'd a new leaf and tried again "Temran madera!" he cast as the leaf changed into a board-- a very thin board, but a board nonetheless. The Slytherin lad grinned widely, taken by his sheer awesomeness. Now he can make boards to karate chop with all summer.

Okay pole time.
Salander took the branch, and not wanting to accidentally on purpose poke anybody on the head the way Fletcher did, he fixated the branch to stand on the floor vertically. He trained his wand at the branch, concentrating fiercely that it should transform into a pole and cast the spell "PALUS!!" The branch twirled in its place as it sprung up into a pole. A very long pole. So long it slammed into the ceiling and dug into the floor.
Ehrmm...
He reached out and held the pole, not really knowing what to do next. He tried shaking it loose-- it wont budge, as the pole was lodged solidly in place. His eyes shifted around the room, then stepped back quickly. No he is not getting on it, just in case anybody was wondering.
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes
Melanie bit her lip nervously as the Professor explained what the final would consist of. To her, it sounded kind of fun... but difficult, too. She hadn't gotten the second spell down yet so, shivering a little from the cold air, she raised her wand once more. "Reverto." And the branch was a branch again. Closing her eyes, Melanie thought of what she wanted the branch to do again. Then she opened opened them, and looked down at it. "Palus." she said, flicking her wand at the branch.
This time, it worked. Sitting in front of her, across her desk, was a smooth wooden pole. Third time's a charm. Well, a transfiguration, actually.

As the professor moved on with the lesson, Simon rested his plank better on his desk before switched back to his quill from using his wand. He listened intently to the professor's words andmade sure to pay attention tot eh demonstration.
Right...stick to pole, he mused to himself placing his quill back down on his desk before re-picking up his wand.
"Winguardium Leviosa," he cast, leviating the stick up from the desk where it lay so it was closer to eye level to better focus on. "Fixate," he added to keep it firmly in place. Once he was satisfied it would stay there when he switched spells, Simon increased his focus, trying to imaging the stick in its prefered form.
"Palus!" he finally spoke, jumping a little when it suddenly extended in both directions before he broke his concentration and stopped its growing before it hurt anyone.
"That was close," he added quietly with a sigh as he took hold of it before it fell to the desk, the fixate charm broken as well.

Kurumi continued trying to make her board, well, more board like and less crumbly leaf like.
But then...the professor said the word:final. Kurumi felt her body go rigid and her eye practically popping out of her head. She felt a little dizzy and decided to sit down for a moment only to feel herself sitting down in a muddy mess.
