Dagaz's runic number? Erm.. "It's twenty four, right?" And her answer was confirmed by everyone else. SWEETO. 0________o WHUT was that kid doing!? "errr..?" |
slight catch up SPOILER!!: professor <3 "I believe the stone is Carnelian, Professor."I is said to be linked to blood and also to energy and power." SPOILER!!: professor again<3 "I think the number is 24, Professor," Kurumi said when another little idea popped into her head. "Is there some sort of connection with Dagaz being runic number 24 and Jera being runic number 12? Dagaz being exactly two times that of Jera seems like there is some sort of special meaning." |
Booooom Fletcher had another answer right! Grinning to himself, the boy picked up his gemstone between his index finger and his thumb and held it up to his eye. Ooooh, shiny. It looked rich. He liked rich. "Professor....." Fletch raised his hand and was about to ask a question when his attention was drawn to the boy from his House and year.... Quote:
"Yeah I was just gonna ask that," he muttered toward the Professor, making a little shield with his left hand so that Willie was no longer visible, even with peripheral vision. Merlin that kid needed help. And that meant something coming from the boy who ate sandwiches off the floor and cookies out of his hair. |

Di personally believed both colours could serve one equally well, depending upon what a reading or use revolved around. Quote:

"Yes," she said, resisting the urge to froooown. "There are shops that specialize in the purchase and sale of gemstones and other semi-precious stones, Mr. -" Had he told her his surname? Because if he had, Di had forgotten. That was definitely the least of her worries right now, though. "You can keep the replica on your desk, if you want to." Pause. Take your hand out of... there, child. PLEASE. "Is... err..." How to word it? "Is everything okay?" Di finished uncertainly. Meaning, when!are!you!going!to!take!out!your!hand? Awkward pauuuse. Quote:
Turning to the class in general... "Miss Hollingberry has brought up something I was hoping one of you would." She smiled, but the smile might have come across as a bit straiiiined. [Di was resisting the urge to check on the odd child. Err, Willie.] "Jera and Dagaz are inter-connected." Counterparts, yes. "Remember, twenty-four hours in a day - that's Dagaz - and twelve months in a year - that's Jera." Text Cut: Champion GlitterPuff <3 Di looked up. "Yes, Mr. Fletcher?" ... and then she made the mistake of following the boy's gaze [it wasn't her fault, he had looked away pretty, pretty suddenly so Di turned her head to look too] and seeing the Odd Child all over again. Merlin. "There are shops that specialize in the trade of gemstones," Di looked away from Willie, to Fletcher. She had thought Mr. Fletcher was the odd kind [he ate cookies out of his hair, after all] but now that she saw the look the Champion gave the other Hufflepuff, she realized that he didn't even come close to his housemate, on the Oddness Meter. Back to the lesson. Yes, back to the lesson. "The tree that represents Dagaz is Spruce. Does anyone know the related gemstone?" |
Following the progression of the professor's questions from the previous rune, Simon felt safe to think the next thing she would ask is what gemstone it represented. Even as she dealt with the student that was clearly acting weird, he did his best to not pay attention for the image was not a pretty one. He smiled sbsently when his thoughts were confirmed and raised his hand to answer. "Its associated with the gemstone Chrysolite," he replied lowering his hand to his desk. |
Alright, Evelyn was having an extremely difficult time not to be disgusted and to stop the giggles that kept finding their way to her throat. The obvious awkwardness of the Professor, who had to deal with that one dude who had his hand down his pants, was priceless! But the fact that the guy had his hand down his pants? ... Best just pay attention to the Professor. *giggle* Erm what? Right, related gemstones and whatnot. Bruce? Who was bruce? "I think it's associated with Chrysolite." she said, putting down her hand before... "Wait no. Yes- No..." Hmm. Crud, which was it. Maybe it was Diamond? No. "No, nevermind. I mean, yes, Chrysolite." Eh? "Do runes really have to have a specific gemstone associated with them? Since everyone has different opinions and all..." |
SPOILER!!: cookie professor XD Waho! Kurumi was on a role today. Perhaps it was the prospect of that cookie recipe driving her forward. Now she had an easy way of remembering the difference between the two stones as well. "The gem would be chrysolite that I believe means wisdom and charity," Kurumi stated. "Professor, I think I read that chrysolite has the same gem properties as peridot...is it fair to say that they are the same stone?" |
Text Cut: professor wow, that was a really cool way to remember which number and meaning went with each rune! And what was with wanting to know where to get gemstones? hadn't these boys ever heard of a jewelry store? Em didn't bother looking up from her notes to try to figure out who had asked this question (which was probably a good thing). but hearing the professor's next question, she raised her hand. "It's a green one right? Called Chrysolite." But if that was correct, that made Em wonder, "um, Why don't they have gemstones that correlate to their color?" |
Lila thought on the question for a moment. "It's chrysolite. I think it is also considered one of the birthstones for August," she responded. Then she couldn't help but feel stupid for adding the useless birthstone information. |
SPOILER!!: GlitterPuff and OddPuff :P Salander had to look at the voice.... The OddPuff! He talks! And is he stuffing his hand down his pants again?!?! Salander was pretty much twitching at this point, not able to recall if it was the same hand or the other one that has now reaching for the nethers. He could see Fletcher going aghast at his fellow Puff. Is that some kind of Hufflepuff House qualification? GlitterPuff eats food from the floor and out of his hair, this other dude keeps stuffing goodness knows what up his pants! Salander scooted his chair slightly away from the Puffs and hunched down, nose practically on his book. Remember that permanently disappeared cookie? Well its about to un-disappear if Salander doesnt do anything to keep it down. Quote:

And her was Ancient boy to the rescue once again! "Dagaz' gemstone is Chrysolite, which is the interchangable name for Peridot. This stone is believe to have been first discovered in Red Sea just off the Coast of Egypt, it was the prized stone of the Pharaohs, Cleopatra even had a whole collection of these stones. Pirates used them as protector from high seas too......just saying." he added with a bashful smile! |

"Not all runes," Di agreed. "But the runic families that do - the Elder Futhark runes, for instance, have a corresponding gemstone each - have them for a purpose. Gemological energies, gem therapy and gemstone pharmacy all have a role, but none of them is going to help if the runes are being used as a simple language. On the other hand, if the same runes are being used to heal someone, the knowledge becomes both useful and applicable. Of course, there are cases where more than one gemstone has been attached to a particular rune. Like you said, opinions can clash." Quote:

So. "Dagaz's gemstone is Chrysolite, now more commonly known as Peridot. It's common colours are bottle or yellowish-green. This is what a typical Chrysolite may look like." Di gave her wand another flick, and a replica of the said gemstone appeared on each desk. "It's a motivator, and opens up the subconscious and conscious to opportunities, new beginnings, and new relationships and levels of awareness." "So... who can tell me one or both of the elements related to Dagaz?" Di glanced at her watch as she spoke to see how much time they had left. They did need to move on to the activity. |
Nodding in understanding and happy that he had read things right, Simon proceeded to right down what the other students had said as well as Professor Markovic's comments on eac, One could never be certain what information could be helpful at times. When the topic was changed to the elements that were represented by the rune dagaz, he thought about it for a few moments before answering. "That would be fire and air," Simon replied. Air seemed to fit becuase it was often associated with the color blue as well for the sky. He just wasn't sure of the connection to fire. |

As the fake gemstone appeard on the desk, Em picked it up to look at. What element? Well, since Dagaz means day, Light would probably be a good guess, Em thought. But well, Its not an element. "Um, would it be Fire maybe? Since it could represent the light of the new day?" |
"Dagaz elements are considered to be air and fire," Lila said. She was glad she knew so many answers today. This is going to be a good day she thought. |

After that moment of confusion with words, Evelyn started to get what the professor was saying. The opinions can clash part, she totally understood. Which was why she was so confused in the first place. One book she had read may have said Chysolite, but another had said diamond. But with the whole gem therapy idea put into play as well, she supposed knowing what gemstone corresponded with what rune would be mighty useful. Or you know...not. Quote:
Peridot! That was totally her birthstone. Such a lovely color wasn't it? She hadn't realized that Peridot and Chrysolite were the same thing however. Picking up the replicated gemstone, Evelyn held it up to the light slightly. Mmhm, so much prettier then all the other birthstones. Placing it back down on her desk, she raised her hand after a question was asked, one that she knew and would not be confused over. "Fire and air." she muttered. Of course, with the gemstone distracting her, she hadn't realized she muttered her response. Aw well, the Professor would know what she said right? |
Woo! Another extra point! Patroclus was so pleased that his little tid bits of information were actaully being appreciated by Professor Markovic, it made him rather happy! Bouncing in his seat, Patroclus rose his arm, "Fire and Air!" he grinned, as he began to model the stone on his ear, pretending to be Cleo...however he stopped when a through occured to him. "Professor could the relationship between Fire and Air, Fire's need for Air to survival have any baring on the relationship between Jera and Dagaz?" Just a thought! |

"Fire and air," Di agreed. "You're all correct." Nowww. Di straightened up. "Let's get on to the practical bit, then." Di reached down, and pulled out a box from under her desk. Opening it, she levitated something on to each student's desk. "There is now a bag full of Jera and Dagaz runes on each of your desks. Hold on to those, because they are going to be your guides." Thiiin walls began to rise out of the ground, as Di spoke. By the time they had stopped rising, the enclosure had changed - the students could no longer see each other. Di's voice, however, could still be heard. "I hope you can all still hear me.... your task is to find a way out of this enclosure. There are plenty of doors here and the right combination is eventually going to lead you outside, but the only thing that can open the doors is the runes you have been provided." Di did hope they had paid attention to all that had been discussed. "Good luck, and keep a lookout for the Whomping Willow!" OOC: Please don't RP the doors. If your character stars looking for a door, a certain The students might run into each other, or they might not - that is up to you. Just beware of the tree-that-whomps! There are individual participation points for this task. Minimum of six posts for maximum credit. Have fun! ^_^ |
The Whomping Willow didn't like the enclosure full of tunnels that had popped up, some of it right underneath it. Nooooooo it didn't. But it understood its need. Nice students? Nice students better not disturb it too much. |
She had a bunch of stones. And a tree in front of her. Right. So.. to find the doors? Cameron decided to go left. That seemed like a good place to - WAHEY! No. She wasn't going left. That'd ended up with bubotuber pus the last time she'd decided to go left. Nuppers. She was going RIGHT. She turned right and started walking. It was creepy - thin walls but they were all taller than her. She felt extremely short. Like REALLY short. *pouttt* |
Simon wrote down the last of the recent notes before looking up as Professor Markovic leviated something onto his desk like the rest of the students. . He took hold of the bag as he listened to her explain what was inside. Guides....to what he mused getting the feeling something was up especially when the professor mentioned the practical part of class. But nothing that came to mind matched what happened next, because it couldn't be as simple as reading runes. The Gryffindor couldn't help but watch as walls grew up and created a maze separating everyone from each other. What is this with mazes. The professors seem to have this fascination with them this year. And this one happened to be right near the Whomping Willow which in Simon's mind certainly wasn't a good thing. After listening to the professor's instructions, Simon gathered his belongings back into his bag and slung it on his shoulder. With the bag of runes in one hand and walked to his right where the passageway he was in the middle of was leading to. |
Salander Post 1 SPOILER!!: Professah Di and WhompyWilly ;) Salander sprang out of his chair as the walls started to grow and isolate him for the rest of the class. Huh.... another maze? He was finding himself in these situations so often now that he was actually starting to develop a sense of direction. A feat for one like him. Congratulations Hogwarts! He grabbed the Jera/Dagaz runes bag as he listened to Prof.Di's instructions. Ok so runes are gonna open them doors. Simple enough. Then the Professor added one last thing. "Whomping Willow?? Here?!?" he asked slightly startled. Daring the Willow with it in plain sight was one thing, walking down mazes not knowing if its around the corner was quite another. Salander drew a deep breath and steeled his jaw. Well, he's gone toe to toe with The Great Whomper before, this lil 'ol maze should provide for some interesting challenge. He stepped forward and made a right, leading him down the thin-walled path. "So far so good" he mumbled as he began to whistle a tune. |
