Adam thought about the last question for a while. "Perhaps school- we all get the final effect of learning material and knowledge that will help us in life, but for example. In the America's school starts session in the August but ends in May or June as summer...But in Australia, isn't it still Winter while America it is Summer. So although we all go to school at different seasons but get the same outcome of knowledge."Adam said again.

Hugo got out his wand and nervously eyed the invisible cookie.
How in the world would he make it visible again? Wasn't there a countercharm? Uhhhh...
He waved his wand a little, but nothing helped. Ohh dear.

What was THAT look for?

Was it because Evelyn was catching onto her EVIL plots of making them all sugar high? So they can get on the rest of the professors nerves? Or was it because she was taking notice to these plans of hers and practically telling them to everyone else!? Nothing good could come from cookies!!

Holy MERLIN the sweet smell of cookies made her think insane! Everything was too sweet! The smell was too much, and the sight was making her feel sick. Jeez, just, let everyone eat them or make them disappear.

Hiding her own cookie in her lap so she didn’t have to look at it, Evelyn thought about what was being said, trying to clear her mind at the same time. Alright. Rational thoughts, intelligent answers, perfect appearance, and…action. "Perhaps that could relate to aging?" she asked for a moment after raising her hand to explain herself. "I mean, our bodies grow old over time, but you could also take an aging potion as well to make yourself have the appearance of looking older."

Hmm, right? What do you know, you do learn a few things in potion class.

The boy blushed, "I vanished it Professor, but I can't get it back!" Glll....

Hearing the next question, Patroclus knew another method straight way, "Professor, birth is a same change, but different method!" he grinned, "Life in all animals begins in the same way" but he was not going to say that, "But the way that it happens is different. For example, Humans give birth to live babies, but Chickens give birth to eggs, however in the end they both produce new life!"

Perhaps Birth was on his mind, as it was his birthday in a few days!

Leaning over, Destiny poked Evelyn in the shoulder to get her attention. She was going to bring her cookie back by using muggle magic, she was. Raising both hands out in front of her, she showed her friend that her hands were indeed empty.

Yup.

With that out of the way, she placed her hands behind her back, and pulled the cookie out of her sleeve before her hands were out in front of her holding it out towards Evelyn, "Taaadaaa!"

Yeah, she had no idea Evelyn saw where she stuffed her cookie.

Proud of herself and her newly found muggle magic, she turned back to face the front of the..class and listened to the Professor ask another question. Meh. She had missed the first one because she was too busy performing magic. It's okay, though. She was ready for the next! She raised her hand, cookie and all, "Umm. Like when you get dressed in the morning! You could either put your pants on first, or your shirt. But, no matter what you put on first, in the end you will be dressed."

Was that what the Professor asked? Destiny didn't know, she just wanted to do more muggle magic.

Emmaleigh gave a huge grin. She could eat the other cookie! :woot: and it seemed like the professor liked her answer. She picked up her cookie, and instead of sticking the whole thing in her mouth like some other had :shifty: she nibbled on it while the she listened to the professor talk.

hmm, different methods, with the same outcome? The first thing that popped into her mind was cows, and the milk she had just seen conjured. She raised her hand, and said, "You can milk a cow by hand, or you can hook it up to a milking machine, but either way, the cow gets milked." man, she could sure use some milk right now too.

Brittany thought for a moment. wow this was hard. She didnt know what to say she was stumped. She then thought back to the first lesson of her year. She had learned the pingo spell in Dada and used it in this very class. She had an explanation with this thought but she hoped she could word it right

"well professor when we were decorating or tents some of us used the pingo spell and some of us actually painted are selves with a paintbrush and paint. They both had the same results. One was just quicker and a simple spell." she said hoping she understood what she was trying to say. Gosh sometimes explaing could be a pain in the rear

Di nodded. "Nicely said, Mr. Burn."

Why in the name of Merlin's pink toe was the Ravenclaw waving his wand about? Di resisted the urge to eye him. "Anything the matter, Mr. -?"

Yes. Name, please.

"Perfect!" Di said. "Gradual change and sudden change. You're on the right track, Miss Flores-Shepard." Shepard-Flores. Flores-Shepard. Di couldn't remember which bit came first, but ah well.

Oh. That could be reversed. Di set down another cookie in the Lion's plate. Maybe she should summon a jar full of cookies? The class did seem pretty interested in them.

Live babies? Eggs? Um. Yes. The Gryffindor did have a point, even if the answer made Di want to... eye him oddly. "Er, yes. You have a point there, Mr. Hudson," she said.

That... was a new one. "Nice example, Miss Shepard," Di said, smiling at the answer. It was at this moment that the Professor realized that the girl's last name was Shepard. Shepard. Destiny Shepard. Evelyn Shepard-Flores. Or Flores-Shepard. Relations, maybe?

Di... would not have been surprised, if Miss Swynford had chosen that moment to [do a Champion Fletcher and] summon a glass of milk and drown its contents in one gulp - not given her answer.

"Nice answer, Miss Swynford," Di said. Even though it was probably an indication that the Hufflepuff wanted a glass of milk.


Firewhiskey? No. Butterbeer. Then again, Mr. Fletcher was of age. Unless he had been able to fool the Goblet of Fire. Maybe the Goblet had just been scared that he would eat it, if it didn't choose him?

That aside, it took Di a few moments to understand where the boy was headed. Firewhiskeysicklesknutschange, eh? She listened to him, refusing to frown even slightly as she tried to make sense of it all in her head and, the moment he fell silent, sort-of-nodded.

"Yes." Um? "That makes sense, Mr. Fletcher."

Noitdoesn't.

Di smiled. "The first method was quicker, the second slower," she said. "Excellent answer, Miss Lee."


She turned to address the whole class again. "Most of the examples mentioned here show that change can be slow or quick, gradual or sudden - in other words, change may be gentle or it may be bold." She looked up at them all. "Can anyone tell me which runes are considered the runes of gentle and bold change?"

"It is not exactly change in a physical form, but could all of us ending up at Hogwarts be considered along the same way of thinking? We all come from different backgrounds, yet we all ended up on the Hogwarts Express on the same date and time."



"I believe Jera is the rune of gentle change," Kurumi said raising her hand. She scratched her head for a moment trying to remember the other one she had read about. "I think...it's Dagaz. The bold change I mean."

Brittany smiled at the professor before raising her hand again "Jera is a rune of gentle change."she said but she didnt quiet know the bold. ehhh someone else was bound to know it *shrug*

Huh?

Looking over to Destiny, Evelyn raised a brow as she stared at he friend. Mmhm, this better be worth that poke in the arm.

"Amazing." she muttered with a smile before going back to watching the cookie girl everyone else and listening to their answers. Hehe. Oh. OH! Wait. Poking Destiny in the shoulder as well, she pointed to the other side of the room...before sticking her own cookie on Destiny's desk.

Bahahaha!

Gentle and bold change. Well, that was quite a difference. Hearing the gentle change rune being called out, Evelyn had to sit and think for a moment on what the bold change rune might be. Was this a trick question though? Was there more then one?

Or...no...

Eh? "I think...the Dagaz rune might be the bold change...one." Maybe.

Perhaps.

Evelyn was TOTALLY jealous! Destiny could just tell. Later, like after class later, she would teach her friend the tricks of muggle magic. And maybe she'd finally be able to do that cutting people in half thing.

That sounded fun.

Looking back at Evelyn when she tapped her on the shoulder, Destiny was confused as to why she was pointing in the opposite direction. So, turning her head in that direction she looked for something AMAZING, but..there was nothing there. Shrugging, she turned back to the front of the..class, only to have another COOKIE on her table!

Whaaaat?

Could she eat it?

Destiny wanted to ask Evelyn who put the cookie on her desk and if she could eat it, but the Professor had given her a COMPLIMENT! YES! That was because she was smart. Too smart for her own good.

Or she liked to think so at least.

Hmm..she wondered if she could get another compliment, so, now with two cookies in her hand, she raised it high, "How about the Algiz rune? Since it means rebirth and stuff."

And being reborn was a BOLD thing to do.

"Uhh, Doyle. Hugo Doyle," he said as the teacher approached.
"I can't get my cookie back," Hugo said. He looked in his book.
Surely there was a counter-charm thingie for disillusionment?

Then he noticed the class had already started, and he turned a shade of red.

YUM! ".. We couldn't have some more, could we?" She hadn't had breakfast and the cookies were.. *drools*

Not as good as Kurumi's though. Maybe she could just ask the Gryffindor for some.. she always seemed to have them spare..

She grinned. Excellent worded. *BEAM*

OOOH! She remember this from her runes book.

*flail* "There's Jera, which is the rune of gentle change and it's polar opposite is Dagaz which is the rune of bold change."

HEHE. She knew her stuffs.

"Why not?" It was an out-of-the-box answer, and Di had always appreciated those. "Good thinking, Miss. Hollingberry."

Did this kid want a cookie to eat, too? Di shrugged, set one down in his plate and then [just in case he wanted it back because that had been the task] asked, "Did you vanish it, Mr. Doyle?"

"Algiz is a rune of change, but I'm afraid it's not one of the runes I'm looking for, Miss Shepard," Di said, giving the rather... err, happy-looking girl [where had she gotten that other cookie? Di was pretty sure that last time the Slytherin had raised her hand, she had only had one] a slight smile. "It does mean 'rebirth and stuff,' but the runes I'm looking for are considered counterparts." Hint, hint.

Blink. If all of them were going to eat lotsofcookies right now, they wouldn't have any appetite left later for... other things.

Ah well.

"Of course you can," Di said. She summoned the cookie jar she ought to have summoned in the first place [everyone did seem rather excited about the cookies, you know] and set it down on an unoccupied desk. Free cookies for all. Or something of that sort.

"You're all correct," Di nodded. "There are a number of runes that are known as those of change -" There was the hypothesis that each rune was essentially one of change, but Di had had her own opinions about that - "But Jera and Dagaz are commonly considered counterparts and the runes of gentle and bold change. We're going to discuss both of them separately but first, given that Jera represents the year and Dagaz represents the day, can anyone guess why the first is considered the rune of gradual change, and the second the rune of bold change?"

"Well," Fletcher answered, puffing out his chest a bit at being right yet again (holla!), "change that occurs over the time span of a year is obviously more gradual and not so sudden. It might be like... the amount of time it takes a kid to learn to talk."

That answer legit made sense, yes?

"And if something changes in just a day, it's much more rapid and bold because it occurred in only 24 hours! Like the bold change of someone cutting someone else's hair!"

But not his hair. Cuz it was precious and perfect just the way it was."

Kurumi put on her thinking cap. "Well, sunrises are always bright and bold. Sure, the sun takes some time coming over the horizon, but when it finally does emerge, there is a big blast of light that covered everything." And is really hard to look at. "Sunrises also have bold colors." Hmm...a year was a long time in comparison to a day. "Many days make up a year...so time slows down and becomes...gradual..." The second part of her answer was a little wishy washy, but the whole sunset analogy was pretty good.

Kurumi noticed the professor hand a Ravenclaw boy another cookie. Were there more of them? Kurumi had enjoyed the slight lemon flavor in the cookie and, with a few modifications, could be a very very delicious cookie. "Do you have the recipe for the cookies from today's lesson?" Little off topic, but the question was rather bold....sticking with the theme, right?

Emmaleigh beamed at the fact that she had gotten the answer correct. She then started to write down notes on her parchment


Wait, that couldn't be right! it made no since to her. "Um Professor," she said raising her hand. "Wouldn't the rune for gradual change mean day, and the one for bold change mean year?" that made more sense, but hot to explain it. "Like, how when we were kids we were constantly growing, but if we measured out height everyday, we couldn't really tell the difference, but if we measured after a year of growing, there would be a noticeable difference."

Surprise, surprise, Mr. Fletcher could actually make sense. Di's lips tugged up. Smiiile. "Perfectly said," she agreed. "... and good example. Cutting off one's hair is a bold change."

Di smiled softly. The first burst of light. That led into a number of other runes-associated topics. Energies and things of that sort. She nodded. "That's correct. Good answer."

Blink. Did this class have cookie fever? Maybe the cookies had been a baaaad idea. "No, I don't," Di said. Then... "I suppose I could get it for you if you need it, Miss Hollingberry." Um?

"That's a good point," Di said, giving a little nod. "But this has more to do with how things are than how they seem, Miss Swynford. The change per annum is, in general, gradual. It happens bit-by-bit. The change in height that becomes noticeable, for instance, happens slowly over a long period of time. If it were to happen in a single day, it would seem much more prominent, much bolder, no?"


She turned to the rest of the class. "Jera and Dagaz both refer to time and the changes it can bring, but on different levels. Generally speaking, the larger the change, the shorter the time period it takes place in, the more prominent it is. Like Mr. Fletcher said, for example - if somebody cuts off his or her hair all of a sudden, the change comes across as a bold one. That is what Dagaz represents. On the other hand, if someone was to snip off a little hair every day, the final change would be much less striking. That is what Jera represents."

Soo. "We're going to discuss Jera and Dagaz separately, and then move on to an activity." Shifty!shifty. "To start us off... who can tell me the runic number for Jera?"

Hmm wha?

She was too busy trying to stifle her snickering and giggles at Destiny's surprise of another cookie on her desk that she completely missed what was said in the past few seconds. Something about…something no doubt. Obviously.

Cracking her back, Evelyn leaned back in her seat right after and slumped down a little to be a tiny bit more comfortable. Really, they needed more comfortable chairs around here; for when people decided not to have perfect posture and such and wanted to relax slightly. Not all of them were professors who had to keep up their appearance and such.

With the question going through her mind, the Slytherin blinked a few times before raising her hand. "It’s twelve." She said simply. Mmhm.

Activity? Maybe we'd get the chance to mess with the Willow again. Oh boy!Oh boy!Oh boy!Oh boy! Salander smiled gleefully as he cracked the book open, anything to get them moving along to The Activity he was all for it "Jera: Rune number:12" he answered as he held the book out and pointed at the page.

Cookies on the desk. She'd nab some later. Professor Markovic was AWESOME.

But back to the lesson..

"Year-ah has a runic number of twelve." Was that the right way of pronouncing it? Beacuse phonetically it was Djera. Eh.

Kurumi smiled, but not because she had been complimented on her response. She potentially had a new recipe to add to her cookie collection!

"Thank you very much professor! I am a very avid baker," she said winking at Cameron. "Oh, and the runic number is twelve."
