Enter the Runes classroom, and the chalkboard directs you to the grounds. Here, a safe distance away from the Tree-that-loves-to-whomp, is an enclosure-of-sorts. Desks are set here, in neat rows. On each, there is a covered plate that contains two cookies. Next to each plate, is a note that reads:
Quote:
The Professor shall be here shortly. In the meanwhile, your task is to make these cookies disappear - one temporarily, and one permanently. It doesn't matter how you do it - what matters is that when the Professor comes, there should be no cookies on top of your desk! Remember, you should be able to bring one of the 'disappeared' cookies out of hiding, if asked!
She turned to the rest of the class. "Jera and Dagaz both refer to time and the changes it can bring, but on different levels. Generally speaking, the larger the change, the shorter the time period it takes place in, the more prominent it is. Like Mr. Fletcher said, for example - if somebody cuts off his or her hair all of a sudden, the change comes across as a bold one. That is what Dagaz represents. On the other hand, if someone was to snip off a little hair every day, the final change would be much less striking. That is what Jera represents."
Soo. "We're going to discuss Jera and Dagaz separately, and then move on to an activity." Shifty!shifty. "To start us off... who can tell me the runic number for Jera?"
Cass raised her hand. she new this one! "Is it 12, professor?"
With the question going through her mind, the Slytherin blinked a few times before raising her hand. "It’s twelve." She said simply. Mmhm.

"Year-ah has a runic number of twelve." Was that the right way of pronouncing it? Beacuse phonetically it was Djera. Eh.

Di made a mental note to get that recipe for Miss Hollingberry, later. Not a part of being the resident Runes Professor that she had expected, but something that Di thought she might enjoy nevertheless.
"The runic number for Jera is twelve," she agreed, focusing her attention back on the class, in general. She hoped they were taking notes, because the information could come in handy, later on. "Does anyone know the associated colour?"

"I believe the color is light blue, professor." Kurumi said with a newfound excitement because of a new cookie recipe. "Which makes sense if you take into consideration that light blue represents health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness. Since we are talking about the rune of gradual chance, understanding and softness are closely linked to that. Sudden change may be hard to understand because it is, well, so sudden. Gradual change happens even if you do not realize it, but you can understand the outcome better because of it."

Daisy had pulled her cookie out of her bag and set it back on the table. She raised her hand and said, "It's light blue Professor."

Mmhhhmm, indeed. "Take an extra point for the insight, Miss Hollingberry," Di said cheerfully.

"... and there you have part of your answer, Miss Prewett," Di said, referring to Miss Hollingberry's answer. "Most runes have a corresponding colour that is believed to help channel their energies. Scientifically speaking, our knowledge indicates that light and colours can be used to balance personal energies and many rune-makers concentrate on runic colours for accurate readings and greater effects. Light blue and Jera go hand-in-hand because both symbolize the same thing: justice, profits, a new beginning and optimism - as in clear, blue skies - among other things."

Di nodded. "It is, indeed."
Moving on, though... "Jera's element is Earth and its celestial counterpart, the Sun. Does anyone know the gemstone linked to this rune?"

Cheyaaa Fletcher got another answer right! And the professor was using said answer as an example! Awesome. The boy fistpumped like a champ. He was so smat. So very, very smat.

"Is it........" Fletcher's face scrunched up with concentration, making him look a bit like a constipated pug dog. "Carnelian?"
Just a random guess there.

Once Willie was pushed back into reality, he looked around the class in somewhat of an awe. Did it already start? He blinked for a few moments, his gaze shifting from the demolished cookie to the professor.
He... wanted a cookie right now.
Pressing his lips, he scratched his head furiously as if he were some dog. It wouldn't be surprising if Willie actually had flees in his hair. He sniffed loudly, and then slowly had his hand go to his behind to pull the cookie out. It was harder since he was sitting down. Willie was only a few inches away from grabbing the cookie. Until it happened.
Yes, it.
The cookie slid down more into his pants, causing him to feel quite uncomfortable. He gritted his teeth in annoyance. Oh, this shouldn't be happening, he thought. Deciding to take action, he dug more into his back pants. Anyone seeing Willie could obviously tell there was something wrong with his behind. It was as if he were having the ultimate wedgie.

Willie paused, staring at the professor. "Did ya say gemstone? Them things tha' cost thousan' of pounds?" He asked, not able to surpress the wicked grin on his lips.

Gemstone??Hmm..Freya thought for a moment what gemstone linked to Jera??Is it Carmelia?Carnolia?Carnelian? Yah, that's it..Carnelian..!! She raised her hand "It's Carnelian gemstone, Professor." she said.
Patroclus didn't like the way the professor had been eyeing him.
What Babies, are change! hehehe!
Listening to the other's answers, Patroclus was rather proud of Kurumi, the first year lion, who was performing great in the lesson so far, he made a mental note to talk to her later.......he liked talking.....
"Professor, Jera's gemstone is Carnelian, it was used by the ancient Egyptians to make scarab bettles, to protect mummies in the jounrey to the afterlife.....so that's a type of change, life to afterlife."
Patroclus always there to offer up poinltess Ancient History facts!
"Is it........" Fletcher's face scrunched up with concentration, making him look a bit like a constipated pug dog. "Carnelian?"

Di nodded. "It's Carnelian," she agreed. "Historically, the Carnelian has been linked to victory on the battlefield and in arguments. Given the ancient belief that the gods or Higher Forces decide the outcome of battle, this gives the gemstone its association to justice. It is a positive energy-booster, brings about calm and encourages hard work, optimism and quiet joy. This is a Carnelian."
She flicked her wand as she spoke, causing a replica of the gemstone to appear on each desk. "You can keep those," Di said, picking up the replica that had appeared on her own desk, at the front of the 'classroom'. She liked Carnelians. Pretty stones.

Back to the class, in general. "Coming to Dagaz, does anyone know the runic number for this rune?"

It was not, not, not a good thing that Di's hazel gaze chose that moment to [re-]land on Willie Cookie!Person. Because her pupils wiiiidened as he... as he... as he dug further into the back of his pants? For a moment, she had no idea at all how to react, and then Di cleared her throat.
Yes, loudly.
"Is anything the matt -" She paused, because the boy took that moment to ask her a question. Gemstone? She had half-forgotten Carnelians and all that, she was that shocked, to be honest. "Yes, gemstones," she said. Mustnoteyethiskidoddly. "Each Rune in the Elder Futhark has a corresponding gemstone." Pauuuse. "Is... everything alright, Mr. -?" She didn't know the boy's last name, but Di tried to give him an understanding sort of smile. Unfortunately, she failed miserably at that so she settled for an inquisitive, how-may-I-help-you look.
One that she hoped didn't come across as a WHAT!ARE!YOU!DOING!ODD!CHILD? kind of look, instead.
Di nodded. "It's Carnelian," she agreed. "Historically, the Carnelian has been linked to victory on the battlefield and in arguments. Back to the class, in general. "Coming to Dagaz, does anyone know the runic number for this rune?"
Ooooh, pretty gemstone. Rubiey picked it up, and admired it in the wintry sunlight; it send pretty sparkles everywhere. Heh.
Oh, they had moved on? Right. Dagaz. "The runic number for the Dagaz is 24." She replied. Then she thought. "Professor, isn't the Dagaz's colour light blue too?" She asked. Wasn't the last rune they did light blue? Maybe they were studying light blue runes today..

No she was not staring at Josh. Pfft. Whaaat?
Blinking, Evelyn sat up and shook her head, putting her focus on the class instead. Hmm, yes she was just making sure HE was paying attention. Anyways, back to the questions and answers! "It's runic number...twenty four..." Yea, what everyone else said. Her ears picked up an answer however not associated with the question given. Which of course, got her thinking. "Isn't it like, a slightly darker shade of light blue though? Or...is it the same?"
"That's a good point," Di said, giving a little nod. "But this has more to do with how things are than how they seem, Miss Swynford. The change per annum is, in general, gradual. It happens bit-by-bit. The change in height that becomes noticeable, for instance, happens slowly over a long period of time. If it were to happen in a single day, it would seem much more prominent, much bolder, no?"
hmm, this was still kinda confusing, but it was making a little more sense. "ok, so its kinda taking every day into account, not just seeing how different things are a year later."

Simon had been doing his best to pay attention in class, taking notes as they went along. As the replica gemstone appeared, he absently picked it up before placing it back down on his desk as they moved on to the next rune. "The runic number for Dagaz is 24," he answered after flipping through his notes and raising his hand before answering.
Amy raised her hand "the runic number for dagaz is 24, right?" she said as she picked up the pertyful gem and stared at it. ooh pretty! hehe she always liked shiny things maybe she was part crow or something hehe
Brittany zoned out for a moment looking at the willow and wondered who planted it. But it was class time so back to focus Brittany "its 24' she said answering but only realiing after she answered a few other people already had. ehhhh oh well. whats one more going to hurt

His hand was still stuffed in the back of his pants. He had clearly forgotten about it as the issue of the gemstone was much more interesting than the cookie that was sliding down his bum.
Gemstones~
They were pretty, shiny and costed lots of galleons. He'd do anything to have those gems in his hands. The soft glistening surface, the way he could see his own reflection in it. Oh, OHHHHHHHHH WORD.
He stared at the professor, perplexed. Each rune has a gemstone? A GEMSTONE?! Willie was now to the point of breathing heavily, drool slowly oozing out from the corner of his mouth. He looked like a canine now. And yes, his hand was still stuffed back there.
"Is there... any way to get them gemstones? No' sayin' I want them. Oh nooo, ma'am. I be... uhh... wantin' ter see them! Yeah, tha's right. See them. Yu know... look. Stare. Admire 'em. Them pretty... lovely gemstones..."
