The rune of protection, concealment, and opportunity? The professor meant, she actually had to try and remember which rune that was? "I think that is the algiz rune..." She wasn't quite sure, but she was positive that...well no, she wasn't quite sure. It could've been that, but then again, there were other runes that had a good chance of matching that description. Others said it so it must be true! "It's usually represented by the color of gold."
Too bad it wasn't silver.

Josephina sat quietly on the log near her colleague, observing the Runes game she was playing with the students. The students seemed to be having fun and enjoying it, which she had to give Di credit. Runes was always one of the toughest subjects to get students engaged in, after all. Runes and well . . . the subject that she taught actually.
Staring into the blazing fire, her hazel eyes glanced away only upon distantly hearing last question of the challenge. What time was it? How long had she been sitting there looking like a statue, eyes glued to flames? Opportunity . . . she could say a thing or two about that. Yet the exercise was for the students; so why had she agreed to stay for awhile? Oh well, she needed this kind of a break . . .

Too bad that yet again, Iris was drawn to a blank. GAH. Iris blamed the marshmallows. They made her lose her train of thought... and knowlege.
Thinking HARD, Iris tried to come up with a serious answer. (Because in all honesty, she wanted to say that it was good for protecting and hiding things, but she figured that was pretty immature for a prefect.) So instead, she just listened to all the other kids. And made mental notes.

It can be the rune's different names - most runes do have a couple; its meanings; things it represents or is connected to; your interpretation of it - anything purely related to that particular rune. Each correct statement wins your house a point. House points to the house that has the most points, at the end of the game."
She waited a few minutes, giving everyone time to settle down. Then she cleared her throat. "Alright. The first rune is... Fehu."
OOC Rules of the game:
[] Davina will either give the name of a rune, or hold it up.
[] One fact per answer. You may state one of the rune's names, one of its meanings, one of the things it represents. In general, only one fact about the rune. That gives everyone a chance to share something new. But if you feel everything relevant has already been said, you may repeat an answer. ^___^
[] Each student represents his or her house.
[] Each valid answer means one 'point' to the house of the person who has given the answer.
[] The first person to identify a rune gets two points for his or her house.
[] The house with the most points, wins.
Please note that the fire the students are going to gather round is charmed. It's not going to hurt anybody. It can be used to roast marshmallows, though. ^___^

Looks like Slytherin won another class competition, Simon mused with a small sigh. before changing his attention to a marshmellow he was cooking as he moved it from the fire. At the professor's next question, he had to think of a good answer for what they had in common.
"Is it that they are all from the "Elder Futhark" the runic alphabet which is a composite of the runic symbols most commonly used in northern Europe?" he answered questionly.

Iris GRINNED happily. The Snakes seemed to be winning a lot of the class games, didn't they?
She sat and thought about the question at hand. Raising her hand slightly, Iris spoke up. "Um... Is the common factor that they're all part of the same rune family?" Iris wasn't entirely sure... but it was worth the guess, afterall.

Squishing the marshmellow between a graham cracker and small piece of chocolate, Sabel raised his hand again. Most ancient cultures had a strong basis in nature whether it was in ritual, magic or other activities, so it stood to reason to him that Runes would be similar. "They are all connected to nature in some way, either by translation, derivation, symbolism or implementation." It made sense,

Adeline qickly scribbled that down and said "Maybe for commuicating to each other, Or maybe because the rune meant something to them or maybe they just thought they were pretty!" she said. She liked runes. Good thing she took a chance!

Witsy was becoming distracted. She thought being a first year it would all be fun and she was having fun, but didn't think too much on the work side. She was going over all the homework she had put off and now she was already slacking in Ancient Runes.
