Large quantities of food are spread before you. Whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the Hogwarts' house elves are the best in the world. The food is superb and the company is as well.
Nia had been people watching. Watching the sorting. Watching the other 'Claws. And watching the members of the other schools enter and interact with the Hogwarts students.
It was all very interestinggggg.
And then the Headmaster's speech hit a chord. No Quidditch? At all? Full stop? Well, that explained her new badge. She'd been wondering all summer why she might have been replaced, so at least that explained something. But still. NO Quidditch?!
She looked along the line of 'Claws, trying to see if she could spot any of the team. After last term, they were gonna be gutted. Properly gutted. She felt for them, she really did. It had been a bit of a knot in her stomach all summer, the not know why she'd been moved to Prefect. Sure, she was proud of her position. But she was more cut out for Captain.
Deciding she couldn't see Ellie or JD, Nia looked up at the Staff table. She was very tempted to go see Prof V now. But that was wrong as a Prefect and role model, and so she decided to go talk to him the following morning. Why had the whole season been cancelled for the tournament? Not even a single match. She'd get out of practice, and she was meant to be trying out for some Pro teams over the following summer!
Ellie was just la la la-ing on her own. It had been simply close to impossible to spot anyone in the crowd when she entered the Great Hall. So she was just gonna kick it on her own until everyone was settled and eating and not rushing around everywhere.
She watched with excitement when the students from the other schools had come. Those flips and stuff... were plain amazing. She would need to talk to one of them. Tell them that they're cool just for being foreign. And maybe be their best friend. Maybe.
But after all that excitement calmed down, she had realized how hungry she was. That nap on the train had really helped. And now she was full of energy and starving. So, when Tate stood to give the little opening speech, she was very thankful. And it reminded her that someone from Hogwarts was going to be in the tournament! All along, she'd just been excited about the new people.
But then the headmaster's words hit her. HARD. The no quidditch part. NO QUIDDITCH! That didn't even make sense! Though, she had to admit to herself that she had kind of expected it. But still. No warning?! Not fair!
She stood blankly at the table. Yes, the food was now there, but she wasn't seeing it. This whole thing didn't process right. Because... well, she had PRACTICED. She practiced almost all summer getting better! And now, what? was it just going to be wasted by a whole school year of doing NOTHING?! Her and Nia had--- Nia! She's captain! She must have known about this, right?! Why didn't she TELLLL her?!
So, the little redhead stood up and scanned the long table. Spotting her she strided over and sat next to her, squishing whoever may have been there over. She was not happy. And she looked at Nia expectantly. Her beloved captain had some 'splainin to do.

She got up and walked towards the Professor "I would to ask about animagus lessons again!" she was waiting for him to shout at her.
Rowan chuckled to herself as Victoria chased down the instructor. I wonder, she thought to herself, if I can show her what I can do. She wasn't terribly eager to share her secret, but she really liked Victoria.
Preston's eyebrows shot up into his hairline. "No. You yelled and carried on and your story did not match up with the mess that's before us. You didn't explain why the scourgify that resulted in fur needed to be cast in the first place. That is not explaining what happened. THat is self-serving hysterics."
Watching her sit, he followed her with his eyes, levelly. "You do not get to decide when to go. You are able to go only when you have been dismissed."
But then Miss Mayberry chimed in again. "ENOUGH!!" Preston bellowed as he swung around.
"Your attitude leaves much to be desired, Miss Mayberry, and I will not have it. It would have been far easier for you to have cooperated. Instead, you chose to first accuse, and then later to share an incomplete story that made yourself look completely innocent. And you have continued to yell and carry on. You will sit there and be quiet until I am ready to deal with you. Understood?"
Professor Kingsley loomed over her, eyes narrowed. He was hungry, for Merlin's sake, and in addition to being rude, this child was prolonging this encounter a great deal.
-----
Clasping his hands behind his back, his expression was grim. "Miss Althiem and Miss Carter. It would have been much better if you had called this situation to someones attention before it got so out of hand. I hope you will exercise better judgment in the future."
He moved to consider the other two girls. "Miss Mayberry. Miss Hughes. Five points, each, will be taken for the mess and the disruption. Not only have you disrupted the feast for a number of people, the wanton waste of food is also inappropriate."
He paused. "Miss Hughes, you will see me in my office first thing tomorrow to further discuss this incident and how you can better respond in the future. And as for you, Miss Mayberry, your repeated insolence and disrespect has earned you a detention. You will report following the feast. No arguments."
Setting his jaw, he stood in front of them all. "You will all remain at the feast until dismissed by the Headmaster. I will take care of the fur and the mess, so there will be no need to leave early. I would also recommend that you separate yourselves."
Preston unholstered his wand, eying all the girls involved. "Let me take care of that fur, first," he said, giving his wand a deliberate point in the direction of the girl. It wouldn't do to have a furry girl at the feast! Satisfied with the spellwork, he turned to the mess on the table, and the mess on the people. With a few quick swishes, he had siphoned up the spilled juice and vanished the toppled food.
"Now get out of my site before I change my mind."

Louisa watched as Carin and Enya's argument started. Why wouldn't they just stop it for a while till the teacher goes away at least! That'd put them in a bigger trouble by acting like that. Till Enya shouted and Carin yelled back, Louisa gasped and her hands snapped to her mouth. Now that was rude. She shook her head and whispered, "No Enya no!" But not to anyone's earshot.
With one loud clap of his hands, everyone went silent at once. Oh dear punishment time! She looked at the floor praying deep inside not to get detention. She didn't know what a magical detention would be. What if he made her spend the night with freaky creatures?
Shiver.
Luckily, the professor was understanding and didn't put Louisa to punishment. Her mouth widened as she heard him telling her & Skye what to do next time this thing happens. She danced happily... in her mind of course. No detention! No sacking! No nothing! Yay! She almost pounced up and down!
But, Enya and Carin's attitudes weren't acceptable... obviously. Taking points from them as well as meeting him at his office. Ouch! Louisa went quiet glancing at the girls. She was sorry for Enya. Her behavior wasn't approved of, but Louisa felt sorry for her weirdly enough. She wanted to comfort her but postponed it. Not when the professor was around anyways.
Separate ourselves? Did that mean that she couldn't sit with Enya anymore? Enya probably wouldn't talk to her just now anyways. Louisa lowered her head, nodded sadly and turned her back on them going away to another table. She needed a distraction... and quickly!
What about Enya? Louisa can't just leave her like this on her first day. Hmm..
...
Hide! Louisa could hide while the professor returns to his place. Shifty smile. Nice! Louisa wanted to hide since the start anyways. Heehee.
She walked away to another table and kept the scene within her eye sight waiting for the right moment to come
Enya was tired. Fighting with someone, and then arguing with a Professor and students really did tire her out. She was still glaring at Skye when she heard the Professor speak. Guess he wanted all this over, to eat...or sleep. Like she did. Yawn. Serious yawn. When all this was over she was going to leave the hall - seek a bed and sleep - before the feast had actually finished of course. She didn't want to stay and see Carin while she finished eating. Yeah it was settled she'd do that.
Before she could think anymore the Professor was speaking. Enya knew better then to speak up, cause more trouble then it was worth. She'd caused enough trouble as it is. She thought she she listened, still turned towards Skye. She noticed the Professor's voice sounded stern, like he was really angry. Well he couldn't blame him, they had caused alot of trouble tonight as it is. Enya also noticed he was addressing her, she turned to face him.
She listened to how he explained how she had reacted, true she had tried blaming somone else by not telling the full story. But Carin had done most of the work! She should get most of the blame for it. But then he discribed her of having hysterics. Her!? He couldn't say that could he? It was an insult - though only she would think that! She glared at the Professor, opening her mouth to respond but he had already moved on. She closed it again.
Enya was still glaring at Skye, not really caring who was standing behind her. But when the Professor literally shouted 'enough' at her she jumped. Enya swirled round to face the Professor in a quick of a flash, she had opened her mouth she shoot some nasty comment but closed it quickly. She couldn't be bothered. Stay out of trouble, she told herself. He was speaking again she she chose to listen, slipping down to the bench before her. She rested her hands on the table. He was yet again telling her how she was wrong, and troublemaker. Blah, Blah Blah. She'd heard it all before. But he was asking a question.
Enya shrugged her shoulders, bored, "I guess" She said looking over the food. She picked up a small cake and began to eat. What was she going to get? lost points? Ha. He was now addressing Carin, she piped up waiting to hear what she'll get. But nothing, sigh. Boring. While she was sloching at the table the Professor addressed them all. Lost points. Children getting off with warnings. Wow. Like she cared. But-but detention!? Now that wasn't what she'd been expecting.
Enya looked up at the Professor, opening her mouth. "Professor please. Do i have to really do detention. I mean sit in a room for hours?" She asked in disbelife. She had to go to his office? Instead of going to bed? She was to serve this detention tonight? Ha. If she didn't fall asleep first! But NO! She didn't want to do this! She vagly heard them being told to sit at different places for the rest of the feast, and not loud to go. But she wanted to sleep! Ignore all that happened! Grr. She was hating this year more and more now.

Beware.
Okay, so Max still hadn't even been entirely sure that he would try out for the team, but the sudden news that there would be zero Quidditch at all brought his spirits down. The tournament was cool and all, surely, but... it wasn't the same. Bummer.
As he glanced around to see how everyone else was taking the news, Max noticed Ellie walk by and arrive near Nia. Since they were the only people he knew and he was currently surrounded by strangers, Max stood up and headed down to the older girls. "Hey," he began, tapping Nia's shoulder to get her attention. He stood there with an awkward, shy grin before continuing. "Guess what! I'm a Ravenclaw!"
Yes, he was going to say his thoughts allowed. "Zen perhaps I will learn somezing from you." he smiled, taking another bite of whatever this British food dish he had put on his plate. Saving the best for last, oui? He barely touched his French food, but he definitely wanted to save the best for last.
Or at least learn how to enjoy potions that is.
"Zen it iz a date." he smiled, before realizing what he just said. Fumbling with the fork, he stared wide eyed at it for a moment, feeling his cheeks burn slightly as he moved his attention to Sandra. "I mean, we should make a date, for studying. Not zat it iz going to be a date."
He needed to think before speaking. Oh bonté!
Moving his attention to the food on his plate, and the drink in his goblet before saying anything else that he may regret later, he took a quick sip of the pumpkin juice before having to turn his head towards Sandra, and the other girl that just came. Mostly since he was being introduced. Hopefully the blush on his face had disappeared by now.
Aw, another Durmstrang? Oh, well he could see now by the robes she was wearing, of course she was from Durmstrang. "Bonjour, mademoiselle Malik. C'est un plaisir de...erm...It iz a pleazure to meet you." He also had to remember to speak in english like it had been requested.
Now that that was done and he was already feeling ten times more embarrassed, Noel waited until Danika was back into conversation with Sandra before turning back to the food. Food would clear his mind, yes. Just, eat the food.
This guy had a sense of humor, which was nice. It hid the fact that they all looked like they were heading to a funeral what with all the black they were wearing.
"I must admit...your British food iz quite good." he smiled, taking another bite. In fact, he was almost done with that portion on his plate. And then, onto his favorites!
"Bonjour Daisy, je m'apelle Noel." He was surprised by how many of these students here knew French. He was not expecting that, but it was an added bonus of course that they did. It was a shame though that it was requested they speak in mostly English if possible.
"I had zought for a moment...you seemed lost?" Then again, it could've been just him. Daisy wasn't one of the younger students like he'd seen here, so she'd probably been here for a few years already as it was. "Would you like a seat?" Yup, right there next to him. There was room of course.
"Nice to meet you Noel." Daisy laughed. "It's not that hard to get lost at Hogwarts if it's your first time. But three years here and I almost know all the secret doors and halls." She nodded. "I'd love to join you," she said taking the seat right next to him. Thoes three years in France was really worth it. "So how do you like Hogwarts so far?"

Morgana sat at the table with disbelief. The term had literally JUST started and Ravenclaw had -10 points. "This is absolutely ridiculous." She muttered aloud and stared at the girl arguing with the professor.
I bet the Durmstrang and Beauxbaton crews think we're crazy and out of line. She thought to herself, looking around. She may be 12, but she was mature enough not to start a food fight on the first day. She threw her dinner roll down on her plate with anger. "Absolutely ridiculous." she repeated to herself.

Sapphinelle turned to the girl muttering about the lost points by Ravenclaw. "I know, right? I mean, I'm not even IN Ravenclaw and I'm furious. Who's stupid enough to do that?" she said with disbelief.

Morgana shrugged to the Hufflepuff. "Apparently those kids. Ugh. Now we're gonna have to work super hard for points now that every one of you has a head start."
She then realized she had no idea who she was talking to. "Oh. I'm Morgana by the way." She smiled slightly and reached out her hand for her to shake.
Oh so he liked their motto, did he? Daniel didn't know Noel very well but he liked him. More then Aleksandra girl. And he thought he'd make a good Ravenclaw if he went to hogwarts. "Yes there isn't" Daniel said. He didn't actually believe that he was just agreeing with Noel to be nice.
Flying in a carriage? Really? That was a weird mode of transport. But it must be fun. " So did the carriage pull itself or was there a Thestral or something?" Daniel asked. He was asking alot of questions today. But he didn't know much about Beaxabatons so it was reasonable.
How did they get here? "Oh we take a train. You know so the muggles don't suspect anything" Daniel said. And because there were so many of them. All the students wouldn't fit in a carriage.
And now Noel was staring at someone behind him. Daniel followed his gaze. He was staring at some girl. Who was she? But Daniel didn't ask. It didn't really bother him. Why should he care?
Oh, did he forget to say? "Oh, non. Zey are pulled by Abraxans." Whoever thought up that idea, he wished he could thank them. It was much better then taking...a train. How boring is that? Not to mention it probably took forever for it to get to this Hogwarts school.
"I hear you have carriages az well?" Or at least, that's what he heard anyways. Were they pulled by abraxans too? And why would they have carriages if they had a train? That made no sense. Unless, they got to choose what mode of transportation to take.

Taking a few more bites, she pushed some of the food around on her plate. Most of her hunger had been satisfied with the first few bites. The food was still good, but not as appetizing as when she first started eating. The butterbeer was good though.
A date?
That did sound nice. She smirked at his pink cheeks, amused that he was so easily embarrassed. The guys at Durstrang rarely blushed unless it was the small first years. Even then it was rare. "A study date sounds lovely." So did a date with him in general, but she wasn't going to push that on him so soon.
An eyebrow quirked up at Danika and she wondered what had happened at her table. Something they would defiantly have to talk about when they met up later.
"I vill talk to you later, Danika." She waved goodbye to her friend before turning her attention to Noel. "Tell me, Noel. Vhat subjects are you good in." If he was going to be learning something from her, she should be able to learn something him. No?
A study date? Glancing back to Sandra, making sure to at least try and keep the surprise off of his face, she didn't seem angered or upset about his little slip of words. Perhaps she was amused?
Taking a deep breathe when she fell back into conversation with Danika, Noel shoveled the food in his mouth, not even tasting it, but just so he couldn't talk anymore. Glancing around as he chewed, he noticed that the professor still seemed to be talking to the others down at the other end of the table, and he was beginning to get rather curious on what was going on. "Huh?" she mumbled when she realized Noel had spoken to her. "Oh, yeah, I'm...fine," she answered faintly, not quite sure how to describe the situation or how she felt. It certainly wasn't fine but it was the first adjective that came out.
Was she sure? That was quite a yell, he was positive something may have been wrong or she was hurt. Or maybe something in the speech had upset her? That was about the time she had screamed.
"Are you sure, mademoiselle?" he asked in concern, glancing around once more. Nope, everything seemed to be in order. Except her expression, which was everything but happy.

Aw, so it was inevitable that he was going to get lost? Perhaps he'd need to acquire a guide of some sort, or maybe he could transfigure himself a map. Smiling as she took the seat next to him, Noel scooted just the slightest over a little more so she had some more room. "It iz, definitely somezing." he laughed, looking around the place. She smiled at this foreign student. "Are you from Beauxbatons? I'm French, too." she said happily, her french accent fully showing.

She could see it in the girl's face. But she just didn't have one. She had only known she'd change position. No reason why. She was as much in the dark as everyone else, until she had a chance to go and see her head of house.
She twiddled her thumbs until the table, before looking back up at Ellie.
"Rubbish, isn't it?" she said, glancing out from under the fringe that had fallen across her eyes.
"And no, I didn't know..." she answered, before Ellie had the chance to question that. She did glance down at her Prefect badge once more though.
...and then she felt a tap on her shoulder.

French. Of course she was French. How did she not recognize the accent? *mental face-palm*
"Wow, muggle born! Were your parents, erm... impressed? excited?" Morgana struggled for words. She didn't know how to ask without sounding prejudiced.

Hmm. Was she going to judge her for it? Mehh, she was used to it.
"Yep! They were so proud of me. My grandmother was a witch." she said happily, thinking of her Grandmother whom she loved so much, she passed away three years ago. Tear tear.

"Er... Well, you'll just have to see. You're in a house with loads of smart people too so I'm sure someone will offer to sit and help you organise something. Maybe you should even ask the Prefects! We've got really nice ones," Ty nodded as he tried to swallow a particularly big piece of chicken.
Ah. There. Ooh, NEW person!
Ty eyed her excitedly as she introduced herself to Pam as Elizabeth. Ty ate as the two talked, and smiled as Pam introduced them. "Heya! Can I call you Liz? I like nicknames," he said with a goofy smile.
He'd have his own two little first years to help and play with, and he'd be like a papa to them - like Uncle James was to him! It was going to be great. Another great year at Hogwarts. Plus, with the whole Triwizard Tournament thing it was going to be EXTRA fantastic.
Ahh, he loved Hogwarts. And its food.

Elizabeth laughed. The food was great, the atmosphere was happy, and Pam was funny.
"Yeah, all this great food really makes you tired," she said as she shoved an egg in her mouth whole.
Elizabeth gave a big smile to the guy that Pam was introducing her to. "Oh, I didn't even notice you were there! Of course you can call me Liz! I've never been called Liz before."
Liz. She decided that is fit her well.
"Are you a first year?" she asked. Then the questions came flooding, but Liz decided to wait with them. She didn't want to scare him. Well, not at first at least.

"Yep! They were so proud of me. My grandmother was a witch." she said happily, thinking of her Grandmother whom she loved so much, she passed away three years ago. Tear tear.
"That's so cool. Yeah well, I'm a pureblood."That came out wrong."But I don't mean to sound cocky or big headed. I just..."Come on, find the words... She took a deep breath. "I'm not judging you. Sorry if it seemed that way. I just haven't ever really associated with a muggle born before and so I guess I didn't know what to say. My parents, My da especially, were pretty anti-muggle people, but I'm completely different. A person is a person, no matter what their bloodline is like."
WHEW. That took a lot of energy to spill out of her uncontrollable mouth.
Aw, the language of France! Something he'd never get tired of. Looking around to find the source of the introduction, his blue eyes landed on young girl, wearing the blue colored robes like mostly everyone else at the table was wearing. "Bonjour Emily. Je m'apelle Noel." he started, a quiet laugh escaping him causing a smile to play across his face. "Aw, I was about to say, your french iz razer good."
Emily smiled "Well Noel, I am Canadian, my mother moved here with my father when i was very little but when my grandmother died we decided to move back to Canada. My parents just apparate me to the train station and see me off. Im rather used to side apparation now." Emily explained.
"Besides Canada is a beautiful place." Emily said, "During summer I live in a gypsy village away from my home... long story behind that one."

She laughed. "You sound like a comedian doing stand-up with crappy jokes." she said, still laughing. "That's ok, I'm used to it. I understand. Thanks for being nice about it." she said with a happy nod.

"Oh yes! First year! Woot!" She said excitedly as she shoved more food in her mouth. After she swallowed she yawned. "And very tired."
"Hmmm... Pam, Liz, Ty. Three one sylibal words. WOOT!" She laughed. She hadn't had this much fun in a long time.
What on Earth? Now the girl was dragging her into this foolish idea? Hell, no! "No, thank you," Margaret replied, trying her hardest to sound like a completely normal person that was simply rejecting a suggestion ever so politely. That was the bad thing about being in the middle of a crowd, one simply cannot express their disgust fully. "You can go," She added. Heavens, had Louvain really snorted? Good Merlin!

Making his way belatedly into the Great Hall, Teagan scanned the Ravenclaw Table for any familiar faces. And lo and behold, it didn't take long for him to find a particularly unhappy face that he had parted from not long ago. Louvain, the other girl from the compartment, the more sensible one, was also there. Teagan dropped himself casually into the space next to Margaret, not caring in the least that there were mostly girls in that section of the table.
"Missed me, ladies?" He poked fun at Margaret and threw a grin in Louvain's direction. "What do you recommend tonight?" He scanned the many delicacies on the table, pondering what to try first.

Ech. Maddie needed to talk to someone. And she needed to talk NOW. Because, she was incredibly boooored! Turning to the girl on her left, she smiled for a moment, and then the smile was replaced with a totally shocked look. Wow. They looked SO SIMILAR. They could even be TWINS or something. It was freeeaking her ooooout! 'H- hii there!' she said happily, resisting the urge to give her lookalike a GREAT BIG BEAR HUG. 'I'm Madeleine Force, Second year' she said with a grin. She left out her house, because, well... it was obvious.

Crappy jokes? Ouch. She laughed along, glad to get that off her chest. "Oh, no problem. And if anyone ever judges you because of that, just leave those blokes to me." She said with another laugh.

Morgana looked up at the girl talking to her and stopped dead in her tracks. Was her mind playing tricks on her? This Madeleine Force looked a lot like her... Was it just her? I must be losing it. Shaking herself back to reality she said "Hi... I'm Morgana Evans. It's nice to meet you!"
