Default Professor Josephina Hadley's Suite

This particular room has served as an office to a number of different professors over the years. Some of which include revered professors such as Septima Vector, Bree Geltz, Kali O'hara, Lesley Modulo Fox, Matthias Pythagoras Wenlock, Onyx Xavier Frost, and most recently, Macadrian Ashling Shackleton-Clark. With each new Professor that has made this office homey, Josephina is sure they each brought their own particular flair to its decorations to accommodate their tastes. Just as Josephina did when she first entered upon this room just a few weeks ago.

The walls have been painted a light blue-gray color and there are a handful of paintings hung around the room, giving off a rather comfortable feeling. One of the paintings is a rendition repainted by Josephina, herself, of a canal near her hometown in Perugia, Italy. There is a framed miniature Italian flag, as well as a third painting of of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.

As with typical office decorum, there is a large, polished wooden desk, that once belonged to each of her predecessors. It is piled rather high with various papers and worksheets, which is quite startling for a new professor and start-of-term. There are also two framed photographs sitting on her desk; one was of Josephina posed with her two sisters and the other was of her parents, Nicole and Marcus, sitting on their couch. Behind the large wooden desk sits a black executive style chair. Directly on the other side of the desk - where visitors may sit - are two smaller black chairs, but still just as comfortable.

There's a bookcase on the left side, which contains various titles that Josephina collected over the years. Some these include, but are not limited to, The Complete Book of Numerology, New Theory of Numerology, Numerology and Gramatica, A Look Into The Future, and Olde and Forgotten Bewitchments and Charmes. There are also muggle classic books by Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, for which are a few of Fina's guilty pleasures.

Though the door is nearly always open, proper etiquette dictates knocking and addressing your identity before entering. Especially as Professor Hadley likely has her back to the door where she is playing with her two-year old puppy named Baisley. Just entering without permission is rude and punishable with either point deduction and/or detention for being disrespectful.

OOC: No, there is no waiting area, but please do not clog up this thread with useless chatter of 'waiting to enter'. Have your character knock and then wait for Professor Hadley to respond to either enter or to come back later.

There are plenty of places around the school that allow for chat with your friends; Professor Hadley's office is NOT the place for it and doing as such will be cause for appropriate discipline actions.

Any questions or concerns or appointment requests, please PM me.

The door is OPEN!

"It's unusual for the numbers to not match . . . " Fina said thoughtfully. "I mean there might be some things that don't align perfectly, of course, but at the same time, you should have some similarities to the results. Which sometimes it takes an outsider's perspective to see that. Or sometimes, if you're too young, then the numbers are indicative more of your future life and might not be relevant at this time but will be soon." It was highly unlikely though that - at least in Fina's experience for the numbers to not have ANY similarities. "But yes, I do suppose we could work together to look at your results and try to see some common ground. As I mentioned to Leilani, there is a new room that I set up in this wing, the White Jasmine Chamber, which would serve the purpose nicely for tutoring."
Did that mean she was unusual, because the numbers didn't match at all despite correct calculations? Or maybe not. Professor Hadley seemed to think it was a matter of either not recognizing the similarities in herself and/or her age. The latter interested her a bit. Katie nodded lightly, "I suppose that would make more sense than the numbers not fitting at all." She remarked, though still somewhat doubtful. It just didn't seem right to her.

White Jasmine Chamber? That sounded... different. Pretty, too. Katie would look forward to seeing the new room, and even more so to having a professionals help on sorting out her Arithmancy problems. "That sounds very nice. Thank you for the willingness to help me, Professor. I really do appreciate it." Maybe once she understood her numbers, she would actually like the subject rather than become annoyed with it whenever working in her own Arithancy journal.

She beamed. "I would absolutely love to!" WHEEEEEE!!! Oh yes, Proffesor Hadley had just rightfully won the favorite teacher status. Ohmahgoodness this was going to be soooooo much fun!! Liek... Well honestly, she didn't know exactly how fun it would be but it would be alot of fun.
Judging from the quietness, Josephina wasn't entirely sure if she was building up suspense or just not sure whether she wanted to help out or not. YET, if she'd been in the girl's shoes, she'd imagine it would be more the former. Not that she would have been considering she was too busy in the library to be bothered to help out professors. Probably why she was never prefect-material because she didn't interact with her peers enough. Actually, she vaguely recalled her head of house saying something along those lines to about her.

"Great!" She said, awakening from her brief daze, as she heard Leilani's agreement. "I'm sure this party will be awesome!" Especially with a student helping to plan it . . .

Swallowing, she glanced toward the two girls and boy in the room and was grateful that they were there, though she didn't bother to voice it. She had to play nice even if she might have secretly wished the boy was older just he could graduate sooner.

"Come in, Eli," She said calmly, tucking a loose strand of brown hair behind her ear.

Of course it made more sense than the numbers not fitting her at all! No one liked to see their numbers not aligning right. Even though the girl seemed somewhat doubtful with her words, there was still hope in her tone too.

"Not a problem, Ms Mae," She said in response to the latter bit. "You know us Professors are here to help you all understand the subjects. Even if it is just a basic understanding." Hmm, actually, come to think of it... she should maybe have one from each house help with the party. She already had the Slytherin . . .

"Legend? Kaitlynnh? Would you two like to help Miss Rhodes in planning a little housewarming party for the new Arithmancy chamber?" Now to find a Ravenclaw.

Lori sighed as she placed her cat down, and watched her run off, probably back to the Common Room or whatever, and then sighed again. She was only here, because of that cat, aswell. And well... She could only really think of Professors Carlton and Hadley who were nice enough to you know...

... take a kitten.

Lifting her hand to knock the door, she knocked it twice, and just chewed her lip. Could she run now?

BLEEEEH.

Because I know it's not introductions, since we already know each other." She eyed him scrupulously. Nope, there was NO fooling Josephina Hadley. That's what she got for having two Ravenclaw sisters.

Legend sighed. Aw man. He was really hoping to get out of Arthimancy. It was better than Divination and everything but it still took him forever to do. FOREVER. Real reason? The Gryffindor shook his head confused. "That was sorta the reason Professor." And because he was bored. "I-." Because he really didn't have anything better to do. Except for you know, do homework and study for OWLs but...yeah Legend didn't want to deal with that. "I was wondering why it is so important to use all of your names when doing any calculations." Because he was lazy, and didn't even want to do Arthimancy homework in the first place, and if she wasn't going to exuse him from the homework.

He would have to find a loop hole.

Housewarming party? Legend snorted. "No. That's stupid. Why would a chamber need a house warming party? It's a Chamber." Yeah. He was a smart alec, and he was PROUD of it.

Uh... weirdo? That was the reason . . . because he wanted to introduce himself? Odd kid. Friendly, no doubt, but odd still the same. "I see..." Fina trailed off, keeping both her eyes steady on him. He probably just wanted to steal all her candy. Yup, that was totally it! Oh? He did have a question after all. "It's important to use all your names, Legend, because your names are a part of who you are. By leaving one out, you may not get an accurate reading of who you are, or who you're meant to be." Though . . . perhaps there would be some other way if he had so many names that it was too much for the kid? "Though, I suppose if you have a friend with less names or shorter ones, perhaps you can have them help you out. I will tell you though, that the main ones important to use all your names are the core numbers. The other numbers are still important, but if you left out your middle names, it shouldn't pose too much a difference."

Stare. Clearly this Gryffindor wasn't the right person to help out, with his smart remarks. "That's why we need your help, Legend," Josephina smiled sweetly, pressing on. "To think of a more accurate name." Just go with it, she told herself.

Oh, but he had to come. He had to.

Why? You'll see.

The little Lockhart made his way towards the Professor's office, and knocked, yes, knocked, because he was a nice boy, after all.

She will listen, for sure.

Another kid oblivious to open door and knocking. Maybe these kids were just being OVERLY polite because they didn't want to interrupt, but honestly, if she didn't want them to come right in, she'd have the door CLOSED.

Recognizing the kid as perhaps either a third or fourth year - she couldn't recall - but did know he was a Hufflepuff and his name began with 'T'. Trevor? Terrance? Terry? Tim? Eh, whatever, Fina nodded regardless at him.

"Yes, you may come in." She smiled welcomingly. "Did you wish to speak privately or do you mind if there are others?" Because that WAS important.

There were several students in the room, it was only polite to knock. It was also important to announce one's presence. Haha.

The boy didn't know the ones in there, except for Katie, the Hufflepuff one. He nodded towards her, and of course, to the Professor as well. Did he mind the company? No, really, not at all, it wasn't a private business anyway. "No, I don't mind" he said, with a small smile on his face as he took the few steps that will make him inside Professor Hadley's office.

"Professor, I have come to make my opinion heard..." because he was certain that it had been her idea, she was a girl, and girls had those kind of ideas, however...the boy's eyes fell on the little flag. He knew which flag that was, now, why did Professor Hadley have a flag of Italy in her office? Was she Italian?

Oh good, he didn't mind. Because she hated private matters as they tended to make her . . . nervous? And were probably equally anxiety-causing for the other party as well.

Well duh, why else would he be here? Except that the small boy trailed off before finishing as his gaze fell on an object in her office. The Italian flag. Was he Italian too? Or did his opinion have something to do with being against having your home country's flag displayed proudly? Because if THAT was his opinion, then she should stick him in detention right now for lack of respect of other heritages.

"Go on," she urged, welcomingly. "Your opinion is welcome to be heard." Better to say it than not.

"Professor, are you Italian? I've never been there, but I hear it's quite beautiful...I've been to France, though" and Italy was almost right there, except, if one considered he'd been to Paris, then Italy was not too close by. Either way, that's not why he was here for.

His opinion, right. "Right, you see, I am completely against..." no, he wasn't completely against the flag, the flag was a pretty one, "...joining lessons, especially with one that I attend, like Muggle Studies" there was a firm nod as he continued to talk, "As I'm sure you know..." 'I don't like Arithmancy', "...I don't take Arithmancy anymore, so, it is a great problem when this class has to be shared with one that I do take" the boy was totally certain that it had been her idea, because Ducks Professor Zookara wouldn't do so, that's why he wasn't knocking on his door.

Also, there was the theme of how awful joint lessons turned out for him, given the fact that the last time he'd been annoyed by a Pixie and a dog.

If she had been at home, with her adoptive parents, and the door was open, Lori would have just walked straight in. But you know.... That was rude, wasn't it? Just walking in. You couldn't do it at parties, especially without being announced, and she hadn't yet been announced. But she'd came to understand that she definately wasn't going to get announced before she entered anywhere at Hogwarts. So knocking just.. worked.

Smiling as the Professor invited her in, Lori did just that and chewed at her lip a bit. "Sorry Professor Hadley, I can come back another time, if you'd prefer." She nodded as another student joined them in there. Oh, hello little Treyen-fountain-moment-ruiner.

"It's just I spoke to a few people, and they said to ask you..." Yep. People said THAT.

Professor Hadley's response was such a Professor thing to say, not necessarily predictable but definitely a teacher to student thing. Conversation. And while she was slightly amused by how her visit had turned into a bit of a cliché, Katie really did appreciate the woman's words. Though, she wasn't so much a fan of the added 'basic understanding' (because Katie knew basic Arithmancy and even advanced, it was when it involved her own numbers that things became problematic), the Hufflepuff girl smiled.

A chamber warming party? Dark eyes shifting from the young Slytherin girl to Legend, and back to Hadley, Katie's curls bounced around her face as she nodded her head. "Sure, we'll help." She agreed, when Legend refused. Last term they and many others had planned and put together a reunion ball for former and current students alike. Now a little gathering for Prof. Hadley's new Arithmancy chamber; By the time she were to graduate, Katie had a feeling she would be an expert party planner. "Is there anything in particular you want us to do or involve in that planning? Arithmancy coded decorations or games, or.. numbers floating around the room?" Like she'd seen Professor Shackleton do once before. Katie wasn't sure how that was done, but she could learn.

And for that matter, Katie had another idea. But this one she kept to herself, it would be a surprise. As the professor tried to encourage Legend, Katie's eyebrows raised. "Yeah, Legend. I thought you were going to be a King one day? Get some practice in. You know, Kings are brilliant men, full of ideas and they do whats best for their people. Now are you going to help?" Asking this, the girl shot a quick look Hadley's way. She was not giving him lip this time, but in her own way she was definitely trying to make him take the 'challenge' on.

Though . . . perhaps there would be some other way if he had so many names that it was too much for the kid? "Though, I suppose if you have a friend with less names or shorter ones, perhaps you can have them help you out. I will tell you though, that the main ones important to use all your names are the core numbers. The other numbers are still important, but if you left out your middle names, it shouldn't pose too much a difference."

Stare. Clearly this Gryffindor wasn't the right person to help out, with his smart remarks. "That's why we need your help, Legend," Josephina smiled sweetly, pressing on. "To think of a more accurate name." Just go with it, she told herself.

He really didn't hear what Hadley said. Because BASICALLY she was all "Blahblahblah. You HAVE to use your names to get the right whatever, BUT if you don't...you might not, that's your choice, blahblahblah." WELL if he got the wrong answer wouldn't his homework be wrong and everything would be done in vane? Professors, were SO annoying. It was not even funny. "I'll just...use my full name Professor."

Now..why was she staring at him? Creepy. He knew he looked good but she was all...his parents age or something. Weirdo."Buuuut...." But what? Seriously?

Shut up Katie. He wanted to say it badly but didn't want to lose points or anything. When he WAS king, he banish her to the dungeon or something. "Fine. But i'm not doing any manual labor. OR making ideas. I'll just help with the organization and stuff." Mwaha like bossing them around like a real king. Thanks Mae for giving him such a great idea!

Josephina had phased out for a moment or two there, but quickly popped a peppermint candy into her mouth. Peppermint had its way of perking you up. "Yes, I am indeed Italian. Well half Italian technically, but I spent a good deal of my childhood in Italy. It's a gorgeous country though." Definitely better than France, but she wasn't about to add that; nor the fact that she found some of the countries south of the equator even more gorgeous than Italy. Now wasn't exactly a geography lesson.

Oh. He was here to COMPLAIN. Hmph! "Your opinion is a valid point, Mr Lockhart, but you see Mr Zookara and myself felt that it was appropriate to join the lesson. You may not enjoy Arithmancy, but sometimes life takes you on paths you don't always enjoy. You just have to try and make the best of it. Enjoy the ride and think of it as a new experience." And why did it feel like he was BLAMING her for the decision to join the lessons? It wasn't ALL her decision, but now wasn't the time to argue that.

And his opinion was NOT going to change hers. The lesson was already set and he could either take it or leave it.

Another student who didn't really want to speak it out. She shook her head at the Hufflepuff Prefect. "No, no, Miss Bristol, it's fine." She encouraged, gesturing to an open seat.

"What did they say to ask me?" HMM? HMM!? What, Miss Prefect. I know you have a mouth, now use it.

Now are you going to help?" Oh good, Katie seemed to be understanding this; she was a smart girl, Josephina knew even if she didn't seem adept in comprehending her own numbers. Fortunately for Fina, she never really had the problems with her own name as it was relatively average in length but as she studied numbers for other people several years back, she did recall seeing several names that were ridiculously long.

We'll help? Josephina couldn't help but smile at the Hufflepuff and her use of the word 'we'. "I think that the planning is open to negotiations. Decorations, numbers floating would be wonderful. I just want people to realize that this is a place they can go for extra help and even work on number calculations that may have been discussed in the previous term but pertinent to this term's lessons, you know?" Numbers floating around the room? That was actually a BRILLIANT idea. Charm work would be involved, but she was confident she could handle THAT.

Heh. Katie was soooo encouraging, it took all the strength Fina had to NOT smile at the girl. Provoking students was sooo not her intentions. Which was why she simply popped another peppermint into her mouth as a distraction.

Pop another candy and look back at the boy to wait for his decision; except he seemed totally uninterested in what she had to say to him about using his names. UGH. Boys were sooo irritating; they seemed to just think they knew all the answers and didn't have to listen to you anymore. Even though Legend was only fifteen, she just KNEW he wasn't about to change. They never did.

But what? "No buts, please, Mr Chosen." Proper grammar was important; when would these kids

No manual labor or ideas? Well it was a start; once he got into the planning though, Fina was sure he wouldn't be able to resist helping more. "Organization, yes we need that. And ideas, because kings have ideas and they like to share them too." Mwaha, she could play the king card too. Besides, it was her job to do the bossing around.

Peppermint? Hmmm. That was like a regular ingredient in Treyen's potions (when he was asked to make one, that is), possibly something he'd gotten from his sister.

"Interesting" he said. So, Professor Hadley was Italian...and he had no idea until now. Well, actually he didn't know where all Professors were from, though, it was clear that Saylen came from somewhere else. Treyen nodded, he had no further questions about either her nationality nor the country, but he'll try to get there, perhaps this summer? Let's just see how the Quidditch schedule turns out to be.

Oh. Here we go. The boy was nodding as he listened to Professor Hadley speak, it was the polite thing to do. Now, waaaait a minute. "First of all, this is not personal, Professor, merely educational" just in case, if this had been Saylen then he wouldn't have bothered to clarify it, "And I don't take Arithmancy because I don't enjoy it..." a shake of the head was all he needed to push the thought of 'I hate numbers' away from his head as he emphasized the word 'enjoy', "...it's because I'm no good at it" and if he knew he was no good, and was probably not going to need it, then...why bother? He was pretty certain that Gilderoy only focused on what he did best.

But back to the real subject, and after another nod, the boy replied, "I see your point," I just don't agree with it when it comes to lessons, "and whilst I'll try to do just that, it's also nice to know my point of view, right?" to keep it in mind.

The boy could whistle right about now, but refrained to do so.

Interesting? What about being Italian could be interesting? Actually there was a lot, but to a fourteen year old boy, she doubted much... Unless... "Mr Lockhart?" Josephina asked, arching an eyebrow. "You... You're not Italian too, are you?" It was a long-shot, but it was worth asking.

Merely educational, yes, of course she knew that. "Yes, you said it yourself. Merely educational, which is why mixing subjects is good because it gives you the opportunity to explore other areas that you might not have seen before." she sighed, shaking her head in return. "You don't have to enjoy something to embrace it. And if you didn't do everything you were no good at, then wouldn't that be boring? Well not boring, per say, but what I'm getting at, Mr Lockhart, is that our faults and weaknesses ultimately will make us a better witch or wizard in the long run. And who doesn't want to be the best they can be?" Because if she was interpreting the boy right, then she gathered that he didn't want to do Arithmancy because he would fail at it.

"Yes, your opinions are welcome here," the Arithmancy Professor agreed, following his own nod with a nod of her own. "But like I said, just keep in mind that while we might not like it ... our failures can indeed lead to greater successes than we could have ever imagined." No one liked to fail, but people did like to succeed MORE.

Hmmm? Yes? His head was tilted to one side as she started on what appeared to be a question from her side, and then he shook his head, "No, no, I'm not" not that he had any problem with Italians or anything. Why was she asking, he had no idea.

Right when he was about to ask her why, she started to talk again. Siiiigh! She was not seeing the point of this! Women. Perhaps Hadley was even worse than Saylen...oh, lies! No one was worse than the evil Care of Magical Creatures one, because that one was able to feed you to Acromantulas.

But, of course, Professor Hadley was not seeing his point because Treyen never said the real reason for him not taking Arithmancy, if she wanted to hear the words 'I hate numbers' or 'I truly dislike Arithmancy' then he'd go for it, but he was certain no Professor ever wanted to hear that. However, "I understand," he started to say, "But I wouldn't want to force something that is not meant to be" like the fact that he isn't cut out to be an Arithmancer, for instance. Not that it was the only career he could pursue that required Arithmancy, but still. 'And who doesn't want to be the best they can be?'. "We can't be good at everything, either, we also have to know when to let things be." But he wasn't about to get into a philosophical discussion with someone who clearly had more experience than him in regards to life.

Okay. Yes, he sort of nodded while his head tilted to the other side, "Perhaps focusing on your strengths is not the right way to move up in life, since they're already strengths, but focus on your weaknesses does seem to have more rewards in the end." he wasn't saying that he'll try it, though clearly he'd done so in Transfiguration. And while it was true he didn't enjoy failing, he'd given that same class another try, mainly because it was mandatory, but he found out he was getting good at it, at a slow pace, but good nonetheless.

And...there was nothing further to discuss, right?
