Narrowing her eyes slightly, the Slytherin smiled before shaking her head. "I don’t know." She said as contemplating the matter. Professors can be tricky people! "I don't think I'll risk it." Maybe after class. Or like…never. He just wanted her to say what she was going to say which she won’t be saying anymore didn’t he! Pfft, yea, she saw right through that trap. Mwaha!

However, his reply to her own answer was…well it just confused her more. There were like, three known places where you could someone’s heartbeat! Shrugging her shoulders, she lazily wrote what he said about checking to see if the person was breathing down in her notebook, which was in her lap since this box took up her desk.

So what!?

Her eyebrows raised in surprise at the mention of…ridding the person’s clothes. Ohh, just enough so they can breathe properly. Merlin, would have been rather weird if she didn’t hear that last bit he said. Sitting up straight, her eyes glanced towards the dummy on the table, her expression turning slightly into a scowl. WHAT? Perform CPR on that plastic thingy?

Pfft, bahahaha! Yea right.

Ooooh she knew this.

Mia raised her hand and bounced in her chair. "It stands for Cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It involves chest compressions at a rate of one hundred per minute in an effort to create artificial circulation by manually pumping blood through the heart."

Okay so that was the technical part of what it meant, she always remembered that because she attended a first aid class ever year. Boring. But important at the same time.

"To perform CPR, first you need to find the correct place to put your hands. Place your fingers just under the rib cage, placing your middle fingers on the outside edge of the rib cage and splay your fingers so that your thumbs are in the centre and resting on the bottom of the rib cage. Keeping your thumbs in place, swing your index fingers up to the centre of the chest and replace them with the heel of your hand, placing your other hand over the top. Then you push down in a pumping action."

She paused for a moment to take a breath and then she grinned. "I'll happily volunteer to demonstrate on the dummy."

Kurumi added to her notes a bit. She had never learned CPR before - although she doubted that many 12-year-olds had - so she watched the professor carefully and the Hufflepuff girl who had just volunteered. Perhaps she should draw a quick sketch of this so she could remember the information later....

N'aww. Why was she blushing?! "Yes, correct, thank you, Rubiey. CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation." He turned to write on the board so they could copy it down. "Not that you need to know that to perform first-aid." Heh. Obviously.

Oh, Rex again. "Nope, we won't. This manuever is way too heavly debated that I would be teaching it to you. There are ever countries were it is forbidden to use it." Jeremy explained with a nod, giving the boy a small smile.

Pfft...was she chickening out now? With a small uncharacteristical smirk Jeremy raised his eyebrows at her for a moment before turning to whoever else had raised their hand. Coward. Heh.

Finally a volunteer! With a grin Jeremy took a step back before beckoning Mia to join him at the front. "Thank you, Mia." She apparently knew how it was done, or at least she knew how it was done in theory. There, however, was a huuuuge difference in knowing something and then doing it in real life.

With a smile he waited for the Hufflepuff to join him.

Well. He was good people. Neptune approved. And adjusted her cutesy nursey hat over her blond curls. As for CPR....? It was probably good to know and all, muggle trivia night or whatever, but to actually practice???

That only sounded fun if they were .. say... going to partner up.

And Professor Z chose her as his partner.

Not so much for reviving a big, creeper muggle doll.

"I want to see you perform CPR first, Professor." GIGGLE. Juuuuust saying. Nurse Bott request - how could he refuse??

Still grinning, Mia jumped up from her chair and made her way up to the front of the class and stood beside the Professor. She looked down at the dummy and wrinkled her nose a little, it certainly wasn't as life like as the one's they used back home but she supposed she could just pretend it was.

Or she could pretend it was a certain someone.

Returning her gaze back to Professor Zookara, Mia bounced a little on the balls of her feet. "Ready when you are Sir."

Heh, Neptune looked cute in the nurse hat. With a small grin at the Ravenclaw, Jeremy was just about to turn back to Mia when..."Me?" He repeated with an rather confused look plastered across his face, motioning back and forth between himself and the dummy a couple of times as if to make sure she was talking about that. Which she was. Obviously. She'd said CPR, duh.

Blinking at the girl a couple of times, he shrugged a little helplessly. "Why would you want me to demonstrate?" Where was the fun in that?

...was she WRINKLING her nose at the dummy? Snort. "Sorry, he's not that pretty is he?" He whispered with an amused grin before straightening up again to face the whole class.

"Now, as Taylor mentioned-" Cue wink at said girl. "-we have to clear the victim's airways first by tilting the head back." He demonstrated it on the dummy before taking a step back to give Mia more room. "And noooooow..." Dundundun. "...it's your turn, Mia." With a grin he waited for the girl to start so he could comment on her doings, explain them to the rest of the class.

Taylor looked up from her notes when she heard her name, just in time to see the professor wink at her. She smiled back and then watched as he told her what to do.

At the Professor's whispered words, Mia nodded her head. "Ya got that right." Actually it was one of the ugliest looking dummy's she had ever seen. Ehhh all in the name of demonstrating on how to save someone's life.

When Professor Z stepped back, Mia moved forward. Oh it seemed that they were doing the whole she-bang with mouth to mouth and all. "I'm assuming this is an adult?"

Okay from what she remembered it was thirty compressions to two breaths. Yep she was sure that's how it went. After finding the correct spot to place the heel of her hand, she then placed her other hand on the top.

She interlocked her fingers and then pushed down with her hands using a pumping style action and did this thirty times before then moving over to the dummy's face where she pinched the nose with one hand while resting the other hand underneath the dummy's neck to hold it in place and keep the mouth open and then she lent over and gave two quick hard breaths.

Ewwww...

Mia straightened back up and looked at the Professor. "Was that okay?"

Neptune's eyes grew wide wide wider and more innocent. Clearly. She'd never suggest that she wished to see him perform CPR ... for any other reason except educational. Bott's were classy, after all.

"You just seem like you'd really know what you're doing." Professor and all. "If I lose my wand and some muggle needs Nurse Bott... just want to be sure I learn it properly."

But he already had that Puffy girl up there, and she was... "Oh Merlin." She was KISSING THE DUMMY. Neptune stood up to better see.

"Give that girl some house points." And some Mrs. Scower's All-Purpose Magical cleaner. Ewwww.

Heh. Mia seemed to be outright disgusted with the dummy. Well, it was good practice really. You couldn't choose who you had to perform CPR on in real life either so there.

Though...this gave him an idea for the final practical.

Jeremy watched her as she started the chest compressions and with his eyes still on the Hufflepuff began explaining what she was doing. "As you can see-" Hopefully? "-Mia is now applying pressure on the chest, therefore sort of simulating the heartbeat, pumping blood to all the necessary parts of the body." He moved behind the desk so she wasn't blocking the girl from view and moved his fingers to where her hands were, not touching them however. "The hands are placed exactly like Mia has them at the moment." Showing them was way easier than explaining it.

As soon as she had moved on to peforming mouth-to-mouth on the dummy Jeremy went to stand at the dummy's head and proceeded commenting on what Mia was doing. "Now, after 30 chest compressions, you move to the victim's face and while blocking the nose with your fingers so that no oxygen can escape, you place your mouth over the victim's mouth and blow oxygen into them twice." He waited until Mia was done before adding, "And then you repeat the procedure until the ambulance arrives or the victim starts breathing on their own again." Which rarely happened but it DID happen at times.

"Thank you, Mia, you may return to your seat. Well done. 3 points to Hufflepuff." Jeremy grinned at the girl, waiting for her to go back before addressing the class again. "Any questions?" Maybe he SHOULD have chosen a prettier dummy.

So like... you have to put your mouth over someone elses that you don't know... nor do you know where they have been. Uhhhh, NO! Not EVER going to happen. "Is there any way to do that WITHOUT putting your mouth to a strangers... because I have to be honest with you, that is pretty gross," Lexi said with a raised hand. REALLY gross.

Beaming at the Professor, Mia skipped back to her table and sat down. And since no one seemed to be asking any questions, she raised her hand. "Sir? Out of how many cases does CPR actually save someone's life?"

"Would the Ministry be terribly upset with me if I just used my wand to save a muggle instead?" Neptune asked, her hand going up as she squished back down into her desk.

He had expected that question to be asked, especially after seeing Mia's disgusted look at having to perform a mouth-to-mouth on the dummy. And it wasn't even real. "Well, there are so-called Pocket Masks." At this he bent down to retrieve one of said masks. "You place the mask over the person's head or at least over their mouth and then blow in through the tube-like thing here at the right time." He pointed at it, holding up the mask. "There are more specific instructions on when to blow in on the mask itself." Nod.

Tossing the mask at Lexi so she could have a better look at it, Jeremy turned to face a beaming Mia as it seemed that she had a question too. "Well, it is very unlikely to actually revive the person again only by CPR." Yes, he was sort of buying time there. "It's only to keep the brain and other major organs supplied with blood and oxygen." With a small frown he finally came to answer her actual question. "The success rate is...not that high, unfortunately, it's only around 5 to 10% who survive after receiving CPR.*" Still, but those 5 to 10% wouldn't have survived otherwise so there.

Sucking on his lower lip, Jeremy considered Neptune's question for a while. "Probably, yes." They weren't allowed to use magic around Muggles after all. "Unless you make sure the person is sent to an Obliviator then you maybe you should." With a shrug he regarded the girl for a moment before adding, "Though, you still don't know what is wrong with the person...which spell would you use?"

OOC: At least that's what Wikipedia says. My teachers would probably kick me but no, I didn't double-check if it's true, sorry. *erm*

".... that... depends..." It did. Probably did. She was stalling a bit, really. "... like, I don't go many places alone. So I'd probably use my wand to sting my wayward butler for exposing me to a dead or dying muggle. But assuming I got away from him and really was alone, then I could maybe levitate the lump of muggle to someone that knows better than me."

Then get Randal the Butler to do clean up.

Clearly, this all made sense to Neptune.

" Is there other ways to save a person's lifw other than CPR if they are not breathing?' Rex asked the profeeor. " I would be interested and hopefully the class will, too" Rex said to the professsor.

Cass, who had been watching the other people in class silently raised her hand "Professor, wouldn't it be better to just use rennervate?"

Lilyana raised her hand. Professor, sorry for interrupting, but are we all going to have to practice this on the same dummy? Because I'm not sure that I want to with all the germs. Not that I'm trying your teaching methods or anything, gosh no! I'm just asking... Lilyana blushed scarlet, realizing that she may have offended him. She wasn't great in front of people really. This was just another example. She lowered her head and quickly started writing notes so people would stop looking at her like that-like she was weird.
