Default History of Magic II

As the students walk into the classroom, they will notice that the desks are pushed back slightly to the outskirts of the room making room for a little bit more of a comfortable seating area. Cushions and pillows are scatted around for them to sit on. To the front of the classroom, a small table with three empty plates is set up and just behind it the blackboard.

Written upon the board is a message:

To side of the room, Professor Welton is a thumbing through a small book. What could she be possible looking up? Perhaps only time will tell.

OOC: Class has begun. Please don't announce your late arrival. Just act as if you were present the whole time.

Jacob started to nibble on the carrot again, he smiled to himself as Patroclus started laughing, he felt quite accomplished now.

Ahhhhhhh!

Jacob grabbed his head in pain. "owwwww..."he whined. "My brain hurts now." silly Patroclus logical thinkings for Ravenclaws. Patroclus' reasoning just made him confused. "Great. See what you do, Patroclus, I was doing so well now I'm completely lost." Yeah that's right, he was gonna blame others for his misfortunes. You got a problem with that?

Patroclus smiled at the crazy Claw, "But is that not what you would classify us as, Humans that are just that little extra special, that little bit.......godly!" the boy joked! "Ancient Muggles saw Gods as Creators, and Destroyers, but they saw demi-gods as those among them, that were a bit different, a little special!"

Well Patroclus thought he was special anyway.....and perhaps a bit of a god!

Jacob couldn't tell if he was going to start crying or laughing. He hadnt been this confused since... Since.... He couldn't remember when was the last time he was so confused. Patroclus was just trying to mess with him, wasn't he.

Jacob just took a few deep breathes. "You know what, fine. I understand" he quite clearly lied, he was just exhausted from trying to comprehend what Patroclus was saying. "I'm not dealing with this today" Jacob went back to nibbling on his carrot and occasionally twitching his nose.

He is a rabbit, he should not being trying the comprehend Patroclus' nonsense

be the bre.

After grabbing a cupcake with a purple flower on it, she smiled to herself at the look of it. A flower, can that really set things off right, or turn everything in the wrong direction? Yes. Rae, who was now Rae Lilyan Skye, named after a flower, a flower chosen by a question, a question asked by a boy, a boy who...... Left. Looking up the thoughts banished, forcefully of course, now she was immersing herself into todays lesson. For this 16 year old needs to be on her best behavior for Welton, for that professor holds the future... Or what it seemed like anyways.

"My dad told me when I was little that in America the muggles found out there were witches.... And the witches died. He told me in was in a place called Salem." That went with the lesson right? They were talking about where magic was and there obviously was magic in that Salem place.... And those witches were pretty stupid to even have muggles see. Psh.

Having finished her cupcake, Grayson returned her full attention to the class discussion. It seemed to have moved on slightly, but at least people seemed to have stopped repeating answers. She'd missed some of the little mini-discussions, though. No matter, although she looked over as Jacob and the Gryffindor boy she vaguely remembered having been around at the moving staircase during the Potions fun had some sort of weird conversation about getting confused. or something.

But she then looked back at Professor Welton. Lexi had brought up Oz, and Finn Narnia, but there was somewhere else that hadn't been mentioned since practically the beginning of class. By the head boy. And Grayson raised her hand because of that. "Gandalf was mentioned earlier, so maybe Middle-earth? If it's possible Oz and Narnia are real, I mean." And she sent an almost-glare at Diggy, since he'd laughed at the mention of Gandalf earlier. Professor Welton hadn't thought the head boy's answer was silly, so maybe it was valid.

Yeahhh, Mr White! Yeah science!

Oliver noted the sympathetic look of Diggy's and he nodded in return. Carrots.. like, seriously? *grumble*

Hehehe! If Oliver was closer to her, he would have high fived that Ravenclaw girl with the boy's/dog's name. MIDDLE EARTH! Course after the snickers and what not over his answer about Gandalf, he'd refrained from suggesting it... but she was a Ravenclaw and Ravenclaws had brains. He smiled and winked at the wee lassy before turning his attention back to the professor and raising his hand.

“If Middle Earth, Oz and Narnia are all valid, whose to say that Lilliput wasn't real? You know.. that big dude.. um...” Crap! What was his name? “GULLIVER!" YUSH! He pointed at the professor as it came to him. "Maybe he was just the unfortunate victim of Engorgio. Or maybe the teeny tiny people of Lilliput were victims of some really powerful voodoo shizz.”

...Though, in all honesty, it was more likely just a kid's story. heh.

"I know someone had mentioned Hercules earlier, but couldn't any of the Greek Gods and Goddesses been magically related? Is it possible they were actually witches and wizards using magic, and powerful magic at that? Especially during that time period, magic to muggles would seem impossible unless it was done by gods. The Gods and Goddesses could possibly be the muggles explanation of the powerful things that potential witches and wizards could have done. During that time period I imagine anything that was out of the ordinary they attributed to gods."
"Very right. Again when in doubt, people do tend to rationalize great feats like this. It is rather possible that these Gods and Goddesses that the Greeks worshipped were just magical like us."

"Professor, Atlantis is a fine example of a mythical city that has blaffed both magical and Muggle kind." Patroclus had fond memories of deep sea diving with his family looking for clues, " There are theories that Atlantis was in fact the ancient city of Thera, an island in the Aegean that was swallowed by the sea after colossal volcanic activity, leaving only Santorini behind.......but it is still believe by some that Atlantis was it's own complete civilization!"

"Eh, What's Up Doc?" and took a large bite out of the carrot.

Ooooh Jacob had a question. Gasp, i know. Jacob supposed to know everything. But suprisingly he does not. "Professor, in greek and hindu mythology demigods were half god half human. If Gods are actually wizards than would demigods be half-bloods" he just wanted reassurance. "And so Hercules would just be a wizard, but he was supposedly super strong, with no other mentioned power." whats up with that?

Still smirking, Patroclus listened to his mate's question, "Professor...I have an idea on Jacob's question," He smiled, "I think ancient Muggle would have classed Wizards, as Demi-gods rather than complete Gods. As a Demi-God is seen as a human that has superhuman abilities, one that has been touched by the divine. So Hercules is seen as a Demi-God as he had super human strength, however the theory of halfblood in his case is true as well as he was the son of a mortal and the son of Zeus."

Patroclus Hudson, know it all by day, crazy by night!

Watching and listening to the lion and eagle friends, she nodded her head and smiled. Leave it to those to think out these kind of things.

"Very good! Demi-gods could very much be witches and wizards as well. They did walk amongst the public, but were just a bit special in that they did have abilities the general public didn't. I'm not all that sure about the whole half-blood theory, but it might be worth looking into."

"Oh yes, another literary location. That is very possible as well. In most stories, I have always thought there was a small sliver of truth. As wide as the imagination can be, inspiration must come from somewhere. Why can't that somewhere be an actual place that the author might have stumped upon?"

"Class, I think you have all managed to really gasp what we are talking about today. So let's maybe just focus on just one area. We already talked about Greek myths, what about other regional legends?"

Another regional legend?

Well there were a few that weren't necessarily true but she had an idea. She raised her hand to answer the question. "There was a lot of Myths around the Country of Ireland. Such as the existence of Leprechauns, giants, that sort of thing" the Blonde grinned. Was that what the Professor wanted?

Eh well that was what she had heard. Seeing as she lived in Wales, she was more knowledgeable of the legend surrounding Camelot.

Evelyn was rather curious about these Salem trials things. People killed witches!? Well that was just...

Pffft. Those people were muggles weren't they!? That just PROVED that muggles were CRAZY! Crazy people, killing other people because they couldn't understand something. Psssh.

Oh, OH! She knew a legend! Sort of. If it was even a legend. "What about that Loch Ness Monster legend? That is supposedly near the Scottish Highlands or something." Wasn't it just a kelpie? Bahaha, silly muggles. "It's still around isn't it? The legend i mean."

Lexi's hand went up again. "What about the legend of El Chupacabra in Latin America? I mean... it is probably a werewolf or some other type of Magical Creature," she said with a chuckle. Sometimes Muggles were so stupid.

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."

Alice raised her hand after taking another bite of her brownie. "Aren't there plenty of Hungarian myths and legends? For example the archangels of Eden and the legend of The Stagg?"

"Professor, there is an Irish myth called 'The Children of Lir', it is about four children who are turned into swans for 900 years," Luna smiled, she had been told that tale many times as a child.

Myths? Wasn't there one about a monkey army. He was pretty sure that must have something to do with Magic. "Could magic be a reason for the Indian Myth with Hanuman, the king of the monkey Army....because well I don't think normal monkeys can do that." Well he certainly hoped not, or there was there going to be some big monkey up roar?

Well at least The professor understood Patroclus, but she didn't really know about Jacobs theory... typical even Jacobs imagination lied to him. But now he was starting to understand what Patroclus was say. It made a little sense... well more than Jacob's idea did.

China... again. Jacob was just thinking China, and Greece today wasn't he. "Dragons, to muggles, would be a regional myth in Asia, even if it was dispersed to the rest of the world, it originated in Asia. And its a deep part of their culture" But wizards knew it to be true. "Dragons are all like 'Rawr!' and I'm like 'AHHHH!' then they're all like 'Meow!' and I'm all like 'No, I'm allergic to cats!'" woah where did that come from?

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."

Alice's mouth fell open slightly as she listened to the boy whose name she was pretty such was Jacob give his answer. Perhaps providing that boy with sugar had not been such a good idea after all...

Kurumi raised her hand. "In Japan, we have many stories about kami, um...gods. In Shinto, it is said that a spirit resides in everything. We also have many stories about foxes possessing magical abilities that increase with their age and wisdom. Foremost among these is the ability to assume human form. One of the more famous stories is Tamamo-no-Mae. We also have stories about raccoon dogs. They are reputed to be mischievous and jolly, a master of disguise and shapeshifting, but somewhat gullible and absent-minded," she paused for a moment because she was probably babbling.

China...
Blinking a bit, Sylvie nodded slowly. "Yes, Jacob. Dragons would be a good example of myths that we as witches and wizard know to be real. Again, I'm not sure about the whole meowing, but I'm sure dragons do roar a lot."

They are reputed to be mischievous and jolly, a master of disguise and shapeshifting, but somewhat gullible and absent-minded," she paused for a moment because she was probably babbling.
"Those are great examples as well."

Professor up untill this yr I was rasied as a MUGGLE.The magical world has tried to hide it self from us and in some cases failed. Muggles try and connect with the magical world we do it in myths and legands. When in fact it was most likely just a spell that failed and we saw what was going on and could not explain it to the outhers muggles very well,Look at Halloween. Nick and the outher Ghost dont look like a kid in a sheet at all but we try and now with CGI muggles can make a real looking ghost

Myths huh?
Raising her hand Dianna said, "How about in North Pole? They said that's were Santa Claus lives right? Isn't he associated with magic when bringing gifts during Christmas Day?" Dianna asked as she lowered her hand.

"Each era would have their own myths, but they also be passed down from generation to generation. Each era would just add on to the one before. But the Renaissance is a very good example."

"There is a division between both worlds for the safety of both parties. Yes, the wizarding world has tried to remain hidden, but who can really blame us after the history that the wizards and muggles have had. Remember the Salem witch trials?"

"Very good! A goddess of magic. Very likely to have been a witch herself."

"Well, the North Pole is very much a real place, but it too can be a place of magic. With all the stories of Santa and flying reindeer, what other reasoning is possible?"
