Food Tables

Bowls piled high with mouth-watering puddings and elaborate salads. Platters of chicken legs and steaming potatoes. And every kind of pie imaginable. Fill your plate, grab some butterbeer, and head to the seating area.

For the second year in a row, Vashti was attending a ball not because she actually wanted to, but because her parents - well, her mum, technically, since she'd written the letter - had asked her to do so and to have fun. She'd been able to communicate with them more often this year than her previous two, and when she'd mentioned the end of the Triwizard Tournament was being celebrated with a costume ball, she instantly regretted it. They wouldn't take no for an answer and sent her a costume her Aunt Grace had made her by owl immediately. And she couldn't have said no anyway - at this point, she would've done just about anything her mum and dad asked her to do. Plus, well, she was quite touched by the costume her aunt had so generously made. So naturally, she came to the ball, alone, dressed in her new!costume.

And naturally, she gravitated immediately to the food table.

A bit relieved she was the only one at the table for the moment, Vashti took her time looking at all the food, trying to decide what to pile on her plate first.

This must happen every time there is a ball, Sammy resorts to the food. But the food is so yummy! But also this year she didn't have anyone there with her, bah, who needs Jay when you have HOGWARTS FOOD! and you're dressed a freaking Tiger Lily she thought positively starting to observe all the food. aga doo doo doo push pineapple shake the tree, aga doo doo doo push pineapple grind coffee. To the left to the right ... something something something she hummed along to the tune that was stuck in her head.

Sammy is a very normal child ... I swears.

She only noticed the other person looking at the food long enough to give her a quick smile and go back to her food observing. Piling something every now and again onto her plate ... then she found ... PASTA! and piled a lot of it onto her plate ... did I mention Sammy is a perfectly normal child

Did Dillon Greenwood love Halloween? He sure did. He swaggered into the ball wearing his Power Ranger costume. He was small so he could only pick from the kid's section, but he didn't care. He liked his costume. He looked good in yellow.

He looked around trying to find Selena since they were supposed to be wearing matching costumes, and he knew she hated wearing pink. He wanted to make sure she was actually going to ear her costume.

Not seeing his tiny girlfriend his eyes fell on the food table and he made his way over. Waving at his friends, though they couldn't see his face because he had his mask on.

Selena wanted candy. Because seriously, this was like Halloween all over again and no Halloween was complete without candy, sugar, or chocolate. Even though she was all pink. She felt like a pink balloon. Blech. Then again, better than the pink dress her mum sent to be sleeping beauty.

First place first, foooooood. 'Go go power ranger~' she thought to herself, smirking behind the helmet-mask thingy. She should get one of those awesome bikes that the power rangers had, they looked cool. Yuuup. Now where was Diggy? Selena looked around for a yellow power ranger because go matching costumes, right? Of course.

Seeing Diggy at the food table she grinned. "Heyyy Yellow Ranger," Selena said with a smile, though it was kinda hard to see that with the mask and all.

He turned around at the sound of her voice. "Hey Pink Ranger," he was all grins behind his mask as he looked at her. He rather thought she should ear more pink, but he wasn't going to tell her that. He knew she hated pink but she had worn the costume for her. He gathered her up in a hug. "Thank you for wearing this," he whispered in her ear before letting her go.

He picked up a plate, "Do you want something?" he asked. He was going to fix her plate first if she wanted something to nibble on.

Selena hugged him back smiling though kinda hating him for the pinkness and all. Pink was not her color. She should've gone as a green one. Because who didn't like green? "No problem, next time you're wearing pink though," she said, smirking behind her mask, though he obviously couldn't see that. hehehe. She was just joking... but still.

Looking at the options that were spread out on the table she shrugged. Decisions, decisions. Why were they so hard to make? "Uhm... pie?" she said with a slight giggle, because pie was good.

He pulled a face behind his mask, glad that Selena couldn't see it. "I think I would look good in pink," he bluffed. Though he was sure she would hold him to that, but he would wear pink for her if she asked him too. He leaned over, "You look beautiful." he told her. Just in case she thought she didn't And every girl liked to hear that right? Well that's what his mom is always saying.

They walked down the buffet table a bit toward the pies. They did look quite mouth-watering. "Which one?" He was eying the pumpkin pie something fierce. He was going to get a few pieces of that. He was sure.

Selena giggled as she thought about Diggy in pink. Nope. Sadly, not a good image. "Alright, say what you want, but don't wear pink, please," she said quite seriously. It would scar her for life, that or she'd burst out laughing. Whichever came first. Hopefully neither. Blushing behind the mask she smiled. "Thanks, you look quite dashing yourself," she said.

Staring at the pies she tried to decide. Uhmm.... hmmm... choices. "Chicken pot pie?" she offered. Because it was a meal baked inside a pie crust!! That was like... awesome. "And in honor of this Halloween related ball, pumpkin pie!" she added with a grin. Because pumpkin pie was a must.

He nodded, "Ok no pink for me. But you look good in it." he told her. He wanted to sigh in relief that she wouldn't make him wear pink, but he was still sure he would look in it if she asked him to wear it. "Well you know me. I make anything look good." he joked.

He scooped out a portion of the chicken pot pie. Though he was not eating food he wanted sweets and candy. It was Halloween after all. Not dinner time. He nodded and moved down to the silky looking pumpkin pie. He cut out a large piece and grabbed two forks. "Where do you want to sit?" he looked around at some of the empty tables. And he was keen to get Selena out on the dance floor.

Selena wrinkled her nose, in pink? Selena. What had the world come to? Still, "Thanks," she said with a smile. She still liked green more. Because it was a Slytherin color, plus it was just really pretty. Laughing she smiled, "Of course you do Mister Greenwood." Then again, he kinda did... except pink.

She looked around at the tables to decide. "How about over there?" she asked, pointing her pink-polished finger at a bunch of tables (Seating Area 1). Most people were already dancing, pffft. Food tasted good. Yup, yummy.

With even, slow steps, the tall young man dressed all in black had entered the hall, and let his eyes stray around at the other people that moved in what seemed like groups around the hall. One hand raised, fingers pressing nimbly around the edge of the mask that covered half his face.

He'd stuck it on pretty well; it didn't seem as if it was going to come loose any time soon.

The hand strayed, running through his now overly long hair just once. It had been a bit of an accident, really, that it had gone that long. He'd been playing around with charms, and... well. His short hair was not short now. He'd considered cutting it himself, before this whole ball thing. But leaving it long, coupled with the mask, would hopefully make it more difficult for people to recognise him.

Raiden Kururugi's costume was anonymity.

Not exactly hungry, yet not feeling like going to the table he was supposed to be seated at, because that would just ruin it, he pressed his back against the nearest wall. Arms crossed over his chest, and one foot moved across the other, bouncing absently.

He was waiting for someone. The someone who was the only reason he was here.

Waterloo 10-30-2010 09:34 PM

Mister Cow shimmied toward the food table. If cows could look shifty, this was one shifty looking cow. This cow did not want to be recognised. But then, who could possibly recognise who was in a giant cattle costume!?

The man hidden in the costume was suddenly grateful for his lack in height which would probably add to his disguise. He could easily be mistaken for one of the older students.

Right? He hoped so.

After a nervous glance in the direction of the staff table, Mister Cow moved towards some delicious looking chips...

... only to realise he couldn't eat without taking the head piece off! Dilemma.

hermygirl 10-30-2010 09:53 PM

Nia peeped into the hall, her hands lightly fidding with the fabric of her pale skirt. He'd said he'd meet her here, at the ball. She looked briefly round, before stepping into the hall to get a better look, checking her silver bracelet watch quickly.

Admittedly, in trying to affix her wings, she was a couple of minutes late. At least they were straight now though. Well, if they had stayed they whilst she had headed down from the seventh floor. It was hard to do wandwork over one's shoulder, especially when trying to hold feathery wings exactly in place. And, Nia wanted straight wings. Symmetry was good.

That was why it was odd she couldn't see him. Because in theory, he should already be here, and she definitely hadn't gone past him outside in the entrance hall. Surely he would have called her back if she had. Of course, it didn't help she hadn't a foggiest idea what he was planning to wear. And there seemed to be a whole mixture of outfits in here. It seemed literally anything went. She couldn't even start to guess what he might have chosen, either. If he'd dressed up at all. Hmm.

Biting her lip, Nia started to step lightly round the edge of the dance floor, her cream ballet style pumps noiseless on the floor. And then she saw a dark figure, leant on the wall. Something intuitively said it was him. But, the long hair? And the mask? It threw her. It was almost...shifty.

She rubbed her arm nervously, before offering a smile. "Waiting for someone?" she asked softly. If she had asked the wrong person, she at least wouldn't look too much of an idiot. Just friendly, with any luck.

Ameh 10-30-2010 10:08 PM

...there was a cow at the food table. The young man's eyes followed the person in the suit, wondering idly who it was. Surely it wasn't who he was waiting for. Not in that. Though he'd seen a few people in equally ridiculous costumes, people his age in things he would burn before slipping on his person... no. Not her.

He supposed he'd find out later, who was in the cow costume. Eyes moved slowly from... him? Her? It. The cow. He resumed watching those coming through the doors.

When she did show up, one corner of his lips gave a bemused tug. Wings. She was all in white, and she had wings. They were a complete contrast.

He did not move from the wall. It wasn't out of maliciousness; he wasn't watching her walk around looking for him because it amused him. He was just... not keen on giving up this quiet spot, of moving into the more lit areas for people to spot him. Besides, she found him easily enough.

He wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad thing.

"Possibly," he said quietly. If she managed to catch the eyes behind the mask, she might've seen the mischievous look that lingered in them for only a moment.

Kita, having gone round the dance floor to avoid the dancing couples, approached the food table with Lavi. A smile spread across her face as she saw all the food that was there. It all looked too good to eat. Pity. She looked round at Lavi and asked, "Do you know what you want to eat? I can't seem to decide." Why was she so hopeless when it came to things like this?

StarShine 10-30-2010 10:27 PM

For anyone. :]

Food. More importantly, butterbeer. Because this was a ball, and in balls boys were supposed ask girls to dance. Which stressed Evan out, and he needed something liquid. Grabbing himself a huge cup of butterbeer and a chocolate pie, he didn't even need to return to his table, he started eating there.

Because, obviously, he didn't want to eat something around a girl.

Lavi followed Kita through the Great Hall. It amused him a bit how she walked around the dance floor with a huge bow and they approached the table. Lavi stood next to Kita as she looked at the food with a smile on her face, it made him smile too. This girl was cool, he was actually calm..well calmer than other times. He looked at the students that had gathered around for the food , when something...or someone.. caught his attention. A cow? Lavi rubbed his eyes again, not because the contact lenses were irritating again but..a cow?! O___o

Thinking he was getting delusional from the lack of food in his system, Lavi shook his head and turned back at the table. "I can't choose either!" he whined and pouted his lips. "It all looks delicious~!" He bend to grab a piece of chocolate cake and took a bite. "Wow this is yummie!" he squealed as he took another bite. Lavi grabbed another piece of cake and offered it to Kita. "Here try!" he said with a huuuuuge smile on his face, his eyes shining and waving the cake in front of her.

Nia couldn't help but take another glance around the room, in case the dark stranger wasn't him. A cow had now appeared at the food table, and she gave it a second glance. Who exactly would want to wear that sort of get up, she'd probably never know. At least, she wouldn't have revealed herself if she'd have been forced (and yes, it would been forced - she wouldn't ever wear it willingly) to wear that. But then again, Nia wasn't a big person for dressing up.

Her gaze fell back on the masked man as she stepped closer. She might have even recognised a movement at the corner of his lips. Was it him? No. Yes. No. She questioned her judgement, a moment of doubt flickering across her face. The face looked the right shape. But the hair. It was so long. Long, long. As in, not naturally grown. Would he have done that?

An answer punctuated her thoughts. Possibly? Oh, that was helpful! Surely she was obvious enough for him to know? So that meant she was wrong then? Right. Time to look again...

Except, now she was closer, she could see the eyes behind the mask. She ran a hand through her hair, tucking some of her fringe behind her ear. "Me too," she replied, a curiosity crossing her mind. "Quite possibly a yang to my yin, so to speak..."

"Yeah, it does!" Kita said, "They all look too good to eat!" The house elves have seriously outdone themselves this year. Who knew perfect can get better? She was just about to take it in an elegant manner when he started waving it around. "Lavi!" she said, knowing fully well that she probably sounded childish. She made another grab for the cake.

Just as he was taking off his second bite from the pie, he heard a strangely familiar voice and turned to it, only to see a Japanese/Chinese/Korean--whoever he was, the blondie could never tell--boy waving at him like mad. Erm..? If he hadn't just told his name, he would have felt like a fool turning to it. But the boy did look familiar too... The Slytherin even lowered his butterbeer as he racked his brains...

"Lavi?" That was his name, right? Yes, yes, it was! Slowly, a grin spread over his face. "I haven't seen you in ages, man!" Literally speaking here. "Where have you been?" he questioned as he wade his way to him, pie and butterbeer in both of his hands. Yup, he was going to hug his friend with those. He didn't even see the girl with him, he was that excited to see the boy.

Ameh 10-30-2010 10:53 PM

Hmmm. Was she irked? That he hadn't outright admitted who he was? Well, considering it was a costume ball, and what it was for, and the whole thing, he didn't want to be Raiden Kururugi tonight. And she hadn't asked if he was. So.

"The yang to your yin, huh..." The mouth twitched again, and the arms dropped, hands burying themselves in his pockets. "Shame on him for keeping you waiting."

He cast a speculative look over her, eyes lingering on the wings. Automatic reaction was to touch them, but his hands remained where they were. He could touch them later, after all. He wasn't going to confuse her to the point where she walked away from him.

Not that he could do that if he wanted to. He was pretty sure she'd already figured him out, from her having caught his eyes at least once. While one could hide part of his face, one couldn't hide their eyes completely, and surely the rough shape and outline of them, had she caught it, would be enough to spoil it for him.

"I'm waiting for a girl." he said it matter of factly, punctuating it with a small nod. "A pretty one. She's an angel."

She'd know it was him now, probably, if she hadn't already. He'd said that to her before, hadn't he? And she'd kinda laughed at him or something. Who knew.

Allright, there'd better be some edible food here or Maya was going to have to eat her head-piece. And she didn't want to do that. Although the apples atop her head looked rather delicious. Hmmm.

Approaching the table, and trying to avoid all the kiddies with their costumes and weirdness, the Mexicana scanned the food items and went for the chicken. Her arm seemed to emit different sounds as her various bracelets (very ornate bracelets) collided with bowls and whatnot.

Sniff.

Was that... Did it smell like... Could it BE!?
Her eyes darted towards a large plate which seemed to have a buttload of thin pancake-like things on them. And, in reality, they were tortillas. Her lower lip actually started to tremble a bit, because this sight she had not seen for MONTHS. Months she tells you!

Almost elbowing past a couple of students, she realised the only thing standing between her and the delicious mexican awesomeness, was a cow. A cow.

Blink.

"If you value your milk, please step away from the table so I can get to my tortillas."

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.

Simon looked at the table there was loads of great foods on there, but did he want to eat them or was there something else that he wanted to do with them, well maybe it depends on who was around and if any of his friends turned up.

He'd noticed a few strange looks in his direction, but for once, Sage just ... well, he didn't CARE. Usually, funny looks sent his way would result in him blushing and stammering and yeah. It wasn't good.

Maybe he ought to dress in full cattle costume all the time.

He wasn't even fazed when the scary Care of Magical Creatures professor threatened his udders. Sure, he wasn't a MAGICAL creature.. but he was still a CREATURE.

Shouldn't she respect the cow!?

Huh. With a shrug and a "MooOOooOOOooooo," Sage took a step back to allow her to her precious tortillas.

He didn't even see the girl with him, he was that excited to see the boy.

He felt a bit weird when the Evan looked at him first as if he was a stranger. But then grinned too as he noticed Evan making his way through the room. "I've been everywhere and no where..where have you been?!" he asked as he was pulled in to a hug. Lavi broke free first as he pointed at the pie. "That pie is delicious! And this suit is expensive!" he chuckled and then turned half way to look at Kita. Oh right introductions! "Evan..do you know Kita?" he asked as he nodded towards the girl in the blue dress. "Well, if not, Evan this is Kita" Lavi waved his hand from Evan to Kita "And Kita this is Evan" he made the same hand gestures as he pointed from Kita to Evan now and then grabbed some more cake for him to chew on.

Okay okay, she might've been a bit harsh on the cow-person, but gosh...she really needed some tortillas. A year without them was making her kind of mean.

Taking a deep breath, Maya smiled a little and sort of stared when he or she mooededed. "Thankyou." Polite, yes? But she turned her attention back to the precious tortillas and grabbed at them like a savage. There, safe on her plate. SAFE!

Totally calmer now.
"Are you...enjoying the ball?" Yes yes, it was good to socialise with the students a little. Let them know the staff was there... to make sure they didn't do anything odd. Hehe.

hermygirl 10-30-2010 11:41 PM

Nia gave a small nod, laying her hands over the skirt of her dress and smoothing it out. She raised an eyebrow. "I'm not sure he is," she said slowly, almost carefully as watched his hands find their way to his pockets. It was...confusing. "Indeed, I believe I was the one running overtime. My wings didn't want me to fly."

Talking of wings...she watched his gaze move to them, and moved slightly so he could see better. Feathery pretty wings. She'd gone for a simple outfit, but a flattering one. Or, at least she hoped so. It seemed to fit in about right with the others in the room, anyway. She wanted him to be glad he was at the ball with her. Not embarassed.

"A girl," Nia repeated, "Pretty, and an angel?" She swallowed slowly, pretending to look thoughtfully around to find such a girl. She'd caught the hint though. She'd been called an angel only once before. After the second task. Oh, it was a subtle, clever hint that she'd never have got without confirmation of seeing the eyes too. He seemed to like riddling her. A smile threatened to flicker across her lips, but she managed to hold her expression. Her cheeks might have warmed slightly though.

This, this was fun in itself. "I'm not sure I can help," she said after a short while looking puzzled. "But...maybe you might have seen tall, dark, handsome man. Quite possibly enjoying time out of the spotlight." As in, the spotlight of being a Champion. Metaphorically, or literally.

Sage was sort of expecting her to get her food, hurry along and leave him be. Well, he was HOPING that. But when did his hopes ever come true!? Pretty much never. And apparently that wasn't about to change now.

He really wasn't in the mood for chatter though. That was the whole point of this costume. Being able to HIDE.

His fellow professor didn't seem to realise she was talking to a colleague though, so that was a bonus. He didn't want Hecate to find him.

Another glance at the staff table. EEK.

"Uhhh.." Sage squeaked, not wanting to talk and reveal his identity. It would be rude to turn around and run away though, wouldn't it? He should just ... stick to character. Right. "MooOOoOOoooOOOoo!!!" He.. well, moo'd again. Moo'd and nodded.

Translation: I'm having a good time? Hm.

Kita turned round to see someone greeting Lavi and wished she could disappear. There was nothing more awkward than standing there whilst someone you don't know greets someone you were talking to. She was glad about the introduction, though, even if she was put in the spotlight a bit. "Hi Evan," she said, waving, "Nice to meet you." She smiled.

The first year looked around kind of nervously. As if she wasn't a shy person to begin with, she couldn't even begin to recognize half the people in the room. She walked aimlessly to the table and grabbed one of the small snacks offered.

Okay, yeah...no. This cow person was making Maya confused and wonder if she should just go and eat her food somewhere else. Because eat she would. Her tortillas were on her plate and the only way they would go was into her stomach. Word.

Well, atleast the moo was a bit more colorful this time.
"Yes, indeed." the Mexicana shoved a piece of chicken into her mouth, chewing it as she glanced at whoever was under that costume. "Well..." She should go, si? Obviously this person didn't want to speak to her in a human language. "Have a...good evening." Whoever you are.

And she turned towards the table again, hoping to get some of those beans she'd seen. And maybe some sallad. And more tortillas. Hmmm...

"Maybe he's the cow," he suggested, eyes flickering back to the costumed person being harassed by the CoMC Professor. She was kinda... attacking the food? It was a bit worrisome. Hopefully the poor sod in the suit would be okay. "If he's inclined to hiding himself. Though I would suppose that attracts a good deal of attention."

Cows were uncommon at Hogwarts, after all. Cow costumes were only slightly more common.

As much as he wanted to pretend he was someone else tonight, the young man couldn't hide his habits. One hand slipped through his long hair and touched the stud in his earlobe. It was one of the few things on his person that wasn't black, though he'd had a black stud to put in there. It was a clear, shiny diamond stud, though nobody would see it for his long hair being in the way.

Worked for him.

"What good are wings if they're not being helpful?"

They should flutter. That would certainly make them a lot more interesting than they already were.

"Yes, an angel. A pretty, warm angel." She totally knew it was him. There was no way she didn't, now. She was playing along with him, surely, because Nia was smarter than he. Visible parts of his face carefully blank, his fingers dropped away from his ear and his arm hung at his side. "Hmmm. You can't see her? I think I can."

Nia was as much of a flirt as he was. Merlin help the world when she let loose on the men outside of Hogwarts, there would be none left for the other girls.

"I don't know about that... There's quite a lot of young men about tonight."

Though the part about enjoying being out of the spotlight... at the moment that was ridiculously true. It would be nice if he could remain so, for tonight. One of the many reasons he didn't want to sit at the Champions' table.

hermygirl 10-31-2010 12:56 AM

"Hmm...maybe, but I think he'd be a bit more of a reptile if he dressed up as an animal," Nia said, looking back over to the where the person in the cow suit was having a conversation with the Care of Mag-... Or not, as she quickly turned on her heel with a plate of food. "I should think it does. Certainly one of the more unique choices of outfit." Though the banana costume, that had to come right up there too.

As she turned her head back, Nia caught sign that she had got the right guy. They said everyone had a 'tell' of sorts. A habit. Something you did in a certain situation. Not that she could see his ear, with that long hair. But the position, and lack of another reason meant he was most likely to be fiddling with an earring or stud. And subconsciously, she ended up mirroring the action, with her own earring. If she could have seen his, she would have noticed the similarity in style - as she was wearing a pair of silver studs set with a clear crystal.

She chuckled. "Not a lot," she answered, her lips turning upwards into a smile. "And they were being decidedly un-helpful. I mean, wonky wings would be useless practically. You'd just fly round in circles." At least they were sorted now. Shame they didn't allow her to fly though. That would have saved time down the stairs. They were cute though.

Warm now too. She blinked. He was referring to her blushes, right? Which meant he was on top form. The problem was, now she had realised that, she was threatening to break character. He had such an advantage wearing mask! Especially with her history of blushing. Around one particular person. At a ball.

She tried to focus on his next words, and in the process ignoring the flush of blood heading for her cheeks that may or may not show visibly. Hopefully with the low lighting it wouldn't. "Oh," she said, looking behind her, and taking the opportunity to look away and fix her facial expression. "I don't think I can. Maybe you could point her out?"

And then, her turn to play a bit more too. "Lots of young men, yes. But only one quite like him." She tilted her head, looking at him. "Respected. Clever. Sly. A leader, hidden in plain sight. Evidently well disguised."

"'s he a slimeball, then?" The question was innocent in tone, but his lips threatened to tug into a smirk. "It's certainly a bit too noticeable for my taste."

She was copying him. He watched her hand mirror his own, copying his own habit, and the shadow of the smirk finally appeared. Was she copying his movements on purpose? His eyes lingered for a moment before he looked away.

"Or into walls," he added helpfully. "There's always that possibility."

Wonky wings were indeed no good. Birds with wonky wings couldn't even fly sometimes.

Hmmm. Had the boy been looking at her face, and actually looking, he might've caught that ghost of a blush. And it might've made him grin. But he hadn't been looking, eyes focused on the dance floor and those milling about out there. A wasted blush, how sad.

This game was amusing, and almost made it work having come to this ball. She was actually making him enjoy being here, a little bit. At her next words, he gave his right hand an imperceptible flick, and wordlessly conjured a little mirror as the wand slid into his fingers. Without a bit of hesitation, he smoothly pushed it back up into the holster.

Eyes still on the people shifting around the dance floor, he held the small, palm-sized mirror up in front of her face.

"Do you see her now?" Unseen under the mask, one eyebrow raised. "You're exaggerating, I think. Quite a bit."

"What gave you that impression?" Nia exclaimed with a look somewhere between disbelief and mock horror. "Scaly, perhaps. Slithery, even. But certainly not slimy." And far from a slimeball. As for his taste in costume, well...of course she already knew that. Hehe. But she was pleasantly surprised in his choice. And how it complimented hers.

Realising she was mimicking him, Nia's eyes widened slightly, before she casually ruffled her hair and let her hand drop to her hip. "A more painful possibility," she noted with a wince. But honestly, flying and bruises? All came with the Nia's territory, really. Just ask some of her teammates from her younger days. "Maybe, it's why I've been...grounded...this year," she added softly. Some birds were just born to fly, afterall.

She looked at him, intrigued. She had barely had a chance to see the wand or movement to recognise it. And was soon faced with her own reflection. He was good. How was she to get out of this one? This thing (game? battle of wits?) they had going was fun. She couldn't concede just yet.

"I see me. And well, my costume," she started, honestly. "But whether that is your angel, how can I be certain?" She eyed him, a sentence of logic being woven together in her mind. "Since you're lurking to one side of the room, you could be wishing me to see the people on the dancefloor without being quite so obvious as turning round. In which case, I'd conclude you're holding the mirror at slightly the wrong angle, or wishing me to see the cow-person once more." Hehe.

She paused, before shaking her head. Her word was all truth. "I wouldn't say so. But I'd be interested to hear where you think I'm wrong. And why. Assuming you know who I have in mind?"

Ameh 10-31-2010 02:16 AM

The young man shrugged one shoulder, a careless motion that bounced the mirror in his hand slightly. People tended to believe the worst of Slytherins, so why not play right back with their misconceptions?

"People tend to think that reptiles are slimy, is all. So if he's meant to be a reptile... you could be saying he's slimy." He paused, eyebrow once again arching unseen. "Obviously though, you're too smart to make such ignorant assumptions about creatures."

She meant Quidditch. Poor little grounded birdie Nia hadn't gotten to take off and fly all term, had she. Least not in the way she really wanted. Because of the tournament. He almost wished she'd had her Quidditch season. She really did deserve it.

"'s not possible to lurk on both sides of the room at the same time," he pointed out. "One can't be everywhere at once, after all. One will always be either to one side, or right in the middle."

As for the last thing she said... his lips tugged up on one side, and he dropped the hand holding the mirror. Fingers smudged the surface of it absently as he turned it in his hand, the action barely noticeable.

"A cow is not an angel." Nor could he see any angels from his current vantage point, but who was really looking. "I think I do know who you've in mind, which is how I know the exaggeration. Clever he is not... and the respected bit is stretching it too. Though 'sly' I'll give him, he can be terribly sneaky when he so pleases."

Eyes flickered toward the Champions table.

"And a leader, definitely not."

hermygirl 10-31-2010 02:52 AM

She resisted a smirk - though she wished she could see under his mask to get some kind of a feel for what he was really thinking. It covered up just a little too much of his face to gain much at all. Though, from his choice of words and reptile argument, she guessed Raiden was enjoying this game as much as she was. In which case, it was a good thing he'd come tonight. If only for that.

She gave a nod at being called smart, allowing a small smile to form on her lips. "What did you expect from an eagle?" she replied, almost teasingly. "Sharp eyes, sharp mind."

He had a good point. "I'm sure there is someone out there, who would debate that point as a possilbe paradox. Some obscure philosophy or something, involving a time-space continuum or higher dimensions. But I concede to your point." She smiled. He was just being picky, to catch her out, she was sure. And he was doing well. Maybe too well. "Unless the room infinitely big, or infinitely small. Because then, wherever you stood...you'd be closest and farthest from everywhere all at once."

She saw that flickered of a lip turning upwards. It was cute. "I didn't say it was," she defended. "I was merely suggesting the angle of the mirror was anticipated incorrectly." She chuckled as something went through her mind. To do with forwards and backwards logic on a statement. And hoping that full equality rang true here.

"And yet, I see his intellect is good. A mind of wit and fervour," Nia commented back. "He's also earnt a good deal of respect, though he might not be aware of it." At the sneaky bit, she grinned, recalling a conversation from the days after the Champions were announced. About him trying to teach her to be sneaky. It felt so long ago, even though she hadn't really done much of excitement this year.

"It's a shame you think less of him than I," Nia concluded, looking over to the champions table with him. "But, somehow, I don't think it would be fair for me to judge."

Nixy

Jacob immedietly after entering the room, found the food table. The banana costume was already bugging him, especially the news paper on the inside. But if he didn't have the newspaper, the banana would look saggy, and Jacob did not want to be a saggy banana. After inspecting the the table for a bit, he decided that everything looked quite delicious. Except...

"Dave?" he said softly. and walked over to a bowl of fruits. Jacob Picked up the banana on top. "DAVE!!!" he yelled "Those Monsters! What did they do to you?" this was an outrage... and Jacob was getting too much in character with his banana suit. Oh well, nothing out of the ordinary there. "Why must good bananas die young?!" He dropped to his knees holding Dave the banana, like he was going to start crying. When something caught his eye.

"Ooooh!" he said excitedly, and got up off the floor. "Cake!" And not that evil blue cake that they had at the Quidditch party... It still haunted his nightmares... that evil, evil caking, with it's mocking laugh.

Jacob dropped the banana back onto the table and took a slice of cake. This was part of his mourning period for Dave.

"Sharp eyes indeed." He shifted on the spot, switching the position of his legs. "Either sharp eyes, or I'm really just... very obvious."

He hoped it was the former, and that she was the only Eagle with very sharp eyes. Least, the only one looking for him. That would work, please.

"Well, with our current location, we don't exactly fit in that situation of infinites, do we." He tucked the mirror, and the hand, back into his pocket, and wished that this mask didn't mess with his peripheral vision quite so much. It was irksome, having to turn his head a bit rather than just letting his eyes look to the side. "In this hall, I have to be either to one side, or the other, or in the middle."

Unless he managed to clone himself, but somehow he didn't think that would help anything at all. Although... no. No. It wouldn't help to have more than one of him in the same space at the same time.

...there was a banana. Shouting about someone named Dave and cradling a much smaller banana. His initial instinct was to straighten up a little bit, because four years of being a prefect and doing this job had engrained in him the need to be ready for crazy students to do insane things. However... the kid went after the cake, and he let his shoulders relax against the wall once more.

"Unlikely, really." The mirror being angled wrong and showing her an angel he didn't mean for her to see. He fell silent when she launched into a list of... praise. Stomach gave a twist, and his hands pushed deeper into his pockets.

"People can be unrealistic sometimes." Like Daphne's apparent expectation for Cela to be perfect at everything. Nia was either trying very hard to stroke his ego, or she was really very disillusioned. "It can happen when you're too close to a situation."

He was glad when the Care of Magical Creatures professor decided to just leave him be. He probably scared her off with all the mooing. Not that that was a bad thing, mind you. Nope, now he was going to moo at everyone that tried to engage him in awkward conversation. It seemed to do the trick.

He still hadn't figured out how he was supposed to eat though. Or drink. Heck, he was going to dehydrate in this costume. All hot and sticky. NO AIR.

The Herbology professor shifted and tugged awkwardly at his cow costume and observed a giant, yellow banana not far away.

At least he wasn't dressed THAT ridiculously.

Right?

Sage just about jumped out of his skin when he heard someone address him as PROFESSOR DODSON. Huh. Noone was meant to know who he was! That's why he'd work such an outrageous costume that made breathing difficult!

The giant cow merely stared at the girl.

Then it MOOOooOOooOOOooo'd and darted off in the direction of the dance floor.

Time to escape.

hermygirl 10-31-2010 03:58 AM

Nia looked him over, almost bemused. "You're not obvious. I questioned myself more than once. And I knew you were here and was looking for you." Add in the fact he wasn't anywhere near the Champions' seating, and her wings blocking a good amount of view - well, he should be pretty well covered.

She shrugged. "I know, but it's healthy to keep my mind considering such things." And, he'd let her go with it. For which, she was grateful. "In this hall, you are exactly right," she agreed with a smile and twinkle in her eye. She went to slip her arm through his. The one he had put in his pocket. A friendly gesture to say thanks for coming.

...errr, banana...at the food table? With a banana? The irony. More worrying was the fact she recognised the voice. She couldn't help but chuckle. The legendary Blue cake victim and beater extraordinaire also known as Jacob Blunt. She glanced at Raiden, wondering whether it was worth talking to him. She was the 'Claw Prefect, afterall. But then he seemed distracted by cake. Looked like he'd actually get to eat this one. Hehehe. Best left to it, most likely. A vision of him, cake and a member of the Claw Quidditch team...yeah, most likely to end in ballroom disaster. Safer to leave be.

She blushed. Of course it was unlikely. But then, so was her being an angel. Outfit aside. She could partly accept the pretty bit though. Partly. Not being on the Quidditch Pitch as much had forced Nia to rethink some of her wardrobe. And sporting her shorter hairstyle had helped with her inner confidence a bit too. Really, she'd been avoiding the inevitable.

Did he always win? Hmm.

"Perhaps," Nia said, dropping her gaze. "And you're saying I'm too close." She swallowed slowly, nibbling the inside of her lip. She'd been having a bit of fun. What she'd said, she had meant it. But what could she say, now... Really and honestly? "I didn't mean to offend you," she said softly, squeezing his arm gently. "Butttt, you could pretend to be that guy for the night. To fit in with the disguised thing..."

Lockhartian 10-31-2010 04:15 AM

Arya =)

Because he was starving, of course! That's why he made a trip to the Food table as soon as he entered. And thirsty, the puffy tie made him thirsty, perhaps it was his mind playing tricks on him. Perhaps.

Either way, the mini-Kingsley took up a butterbeer and eyed the stuff that lay in there for them to eat. Everything looked splendid, but all he wanted right now was one of those muffins Emmy made for Fletcher.

Bah. He took a piece of chocolate until he finally decided what else to grab, it's not like he'll be seating right away, yes? He'd just entered, he had all his right to stand here looking like a gentleman from some novel...except, he was actually playing Kingsley.

Ameh 10-31-2010 04:24 AM

Well, with that... then maybe he was safe. He could continue his anonymity. It was just a matter of keeping his distance, so they couldn't recognise his eyes, then? He supposed his voice had given him away immediately. There really wasn't anything to be done about either of those, at least nothing he felt was worth putting effort into.

Wasn't like he'd be expected to talk or anything anyway. Only to Nia, as far as he could hope.

"Was hoping the mask would be enough to throw people," he mused, one arm relaxing to allow her to loop hers through it while the other hand touched the edges of said mask. "I guess it worked a little?"

His attention was drawn for a moment when the cow moooooo'd again, confirming that it was some guy in there, and then ran off.

...odd. As odd as the banana, which still held a small fraction of his attention. Just in case, you know... the banana went bananas. Hogwarts students had a bad habit of going insane at the least convenient times.

"You didn't offend me," he protested, shaking his head. "'s just that most times, friends are too close to see their friends' faults, you know." He paused, head turning slightly so he could look directly at her, and the arm she was holding squeezed her arm against his side. "Or they're too nice, so they exaggerate things to make someone feel better."

Heh. The young man shook his head again, more gentle with the action this time. He couldn't be that person. Leaning sideways, he put his mouth as close to her ear as he could without really moving and whispered.

"Some things you just can't fake."

There was sooo many things Arya loved about her costume. One, it had a cape. An I'm-about-to-defend-Gondor cape that flowed behind her and she skipped over to the food table. Two, no shoes. Nuff said. Three, well..... three didn't matter cause the first two were just too awesome.

Her eyes didn't settle on any particular costume, she had one goal in mind, check out the food table. She wasn't starving, she just wanted to see if the food was as awesome as it had been the last ball.

And it was!!

The girl didn't cease her skipping as she neared the table, instead taking a small hop that cause her to lean against the table with one hand, the other dangling over the food, wiggling fingers anxious to pick up something.

Hmm.

It was the ruffles that caught her eye. And how low they were. Kingsley wasn't that short. Tall really. So when she glance up, a confused frown laced her features. Only, it wasn't Kingsley......

"...Treyen?" With each passing second she spent staring at him, her frown transformed into a goofy grin. She had to stifle a giggle as her legs swung absently. Was he suppose to be who she thought he was. Hm. "I like the ruffles."

It was the sound of his name being called that made him look away from the table, though, he already knew who to find. Arya, of course.

Chocolate in his right hand, the boy chuckled, "I don't know how Kingsley wears this everyday, really" he said, shaking his head. The man was mad, because this wasn't as comfortable as he thought it'd be. Well, truth be told, he never thought of it as comfortable. But, either way, he'd forgotten to keep in character! So, Treyen straightened up, and finished his chocolate before bowing a bit as if to greet Arya.

"And who are you supposed to be, Miss Lovegoods? And why are you barefoot?" yes! That would be something Kingsley would ask, no? Ahaaaaa, totally. He was doing good.

But, really, no shoes? Either she lost them or the costume was meant to have no shoes. If the latter, then it was awesome! Because she didn't need the shoes.

hermygirl 10-31-2010 05:04 AM

Her arm looped through, Nia looked up at the mask. She was intrigued how it was held on. Magic, obviously. But what sort of sticking charm? It seemed to be holding on well, with the facial movement. "I think it was a mixture of it all. Not knowing what to expect. The mask, the outfit, the hair." Hmm. Would it be wrong of her to touch the hair? You know, to check whether or not it was real? She reached out to touch it. "And the lack of introduction," she added with a wry smile.

If she hadn't offended him, she must have done still something bad, Nia concluded mentally. And, she didn't really know how to take his next words. She looked at him almost shyly as her arm got squeezed with his. She was honoured that perhaps he did think she was too close. Because that meant a lot about their friendship. But at the same time, it was a bit of a downer that he thought she'd overly exaggerate things. And...what was wrong with making someone feel better. That was what friends were for, right? A quote stood out in her mind.

Friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings forget how to fly.

Heh. Angel.

"I just try and be a good friend," Nia answered after some thought. "There for the best times. And there for the worse." She wanted tonight to come under the 'best' category. They were leaving soon. With only really NEWTs to go. They had to go off in style. Had to. Because, quite frankly, this year had been the most boring of her seven. And she couldn't remember Hogwarts like that.

She needed to shift this doubtful melancholy that had appeared from seemingly nowhere.

His whispered words didn't help much. "It's a costume ball," Nia muttered back. "Be who YOU want to be." Had it been wrong to think this was a good idea? Possibly. "Me? I wanna celebrate. Dance. Have a laugh and some fun. With a good friend." She leant her head on his arm/shoulder. "You."

Arya couldn't hold back her giggles when her suspicions were confirmed. He was here as Kingsley! Priceless. She leaned against the table more as she laughed, legs swinging a bit more, before she grounded herself.

Didn't wanna fall face first in the pudding now did she?

"I think he really likes ruffles." Her grin grew at the thought of her Transfiguration's Professor shopping in a shop for clothes with ruffles. The outfit didn't look comfortable though, itchy really. That chocolate in his hand looked good though. Sheeee would have to get some. "What made you decided to go as, Kingsley?"

Hehe. Miss Lovegoods? He was playing the part of Kingsley, well.....she could certainly play the part of herself. "I'm barefoot Professor," she giggled a bit before regaining control of herself. "Because hobbits don't wear shoes. Their feet are too big." And hairy. Her's were nether cause she didn't care to take it that far. "I'm suppose to be a hobbit on her way to defend Gondor."

She twiiirled to show off her cap and all the new shiny.

Nikolai Ognian 10-31-2010 07:00 AM

Rhea ;)

Nikolai figured, since this costume ball was held in his honor, they would stockpile the food table with foods he liked, but that was not the case. Alright, so the ball wasn't held just for him, but he was one of the twelve Champions, wasn't he?

He was, so why was the table full of food he did not want?

Standing at the table, with his Zorro cape blowing behind him as if there were a fan on him at all times, he looked the table up and down in search of something edible. Maybe he would just.. skip the food table all together. He didn't have to eat, really.

Ohh, wait!

Was that pudding?

Ameh 10-31-2010 08:04 AM

Hmmmm. At least he could say he was full of surprises? A smile tinged his lips and a bemused chuckle caught in his throat. The clothes weren't that strange, just... dark. The mask, he figured, would make it fit the requirement of 'costume'.

"I didn't mean to do that, really," he murmured, in reference to his hair. When her hand reached for it, he tilted his head toward it, a lock of the longish mop dislodging from behind his ear and hanging across his face. "I was messing with charms... I guess I did mean to do it? Didn't mean to make it so long, though. I'll fix it later, cut it back to where it's meant to be and everything."

Because he felt a bit silly with it like this. It was longer than it had been in a long time. Really, it felt weird, having it all over the back of his neck and around his ears like this.

"You are a good friend." Good friends were totally capable of exaggeration. He wrinkled his nose, and the mask shifted slightly with the effort. Probably shouldn't do that, unless he wanted to have to stick it on again later.

Was she bothered with him now? Hmm. He gave her arm another gentle squeeze as she muttered, deciding to forego that part of the conversation. He would just be this, and they'd leave it at that.

"You're pretty much the only reason I'm here," he murmured, shifting his shoulder so it wouldn't beas inaccessible. "Whatever you want tonight, you know?"

If she wanted to have fun, and dance, and stuff like that... he'd try. Surely she'd be distracting enough from the other students to make him not want to leave.

Yeah so at the moment the ball was no fun. Where the heck were her friends? Oh yeah, one was in detention, Aiden was God knows, jack wasn't there yet and the others she just couldn't account for either. Sigh. She figured she probably should just grab something to snack on.

In honour of her Gaia outfit she took up a small bowl of strawberries and pulled the other bowl containing cream forward. The princess of the harvest was going to consume said harvest. She chuckled at the thought. As she lowered her hand to dip the strawberry into the cream, she caught sight of someone she hadn't spoken to in months. Such a shame since the term was ending.

" Do you see nothing to your taste?" she asked with one brow slightly raised. The foreigners certainly had a hard time getting used to their food. She smirked slightly." I bet you haven't even tried half the stuff there...ever."

hermygirl 10-31-2010 12:23 PM

"What, mean to make it longer than mine?" Nia chuckled as she reached for the fallen lock of hair. She ran her fingers through - it was soft, and the added length felt as natural as the rest of it. Satisfied, she tucked it carefully back. She liked it this length. It suited him.

"You don't have to cut it back..." she caught herself saying, before she trailed off. Who was she to say really? But... "I like it." And somehow, the clothes and the hair and the mask suited this moody version of Raiden.

Nia gave doubtful shrug. "I can only but do my best," she said softly she let out a small sigh. Almost inaudible. Would a good friend have encouraged him somewhere it was becoming more obvious he didn't want to be? A knot ited in her stomach. It was as if his dark powers were overcoming her light. And truthfully, that kinda hurt.

His squeeze make her look up, and a hint of a smile could be seen as she looked up at his mask. He was cute. No doubting it. Those eyes. She was one lucky girl to be on his arm, really. Whether that be because he was actually here or because there was probably many another female in Hogwarts that wouldn't have minded being in her position. Minus the down, disappointed part of Raiden, of course.

...And then maybe he was like that - because, because he knew he could be around her. That she wouldn't judge, and she'd be understanding. That'd she'd been there at the Tournament, behind him all the way. And maybe, just maybe, she could help.

"Me? I'm not sure I believe you," Nia replied, shifting her head on his shoulder where he had moved slightly. She could see him now, and could ensure her wings were not in the way or would get damaged. "I want...us to have a good time." She smiled. "To ignore everyone else, enjoy the food, have a dance. And leave this place in style." She looked up, her turquoise eyes wide. She fluttered her eyelids at him.

"You think you can manage all that for an angel? And is there anything else you might want to add?"

DH Vixen 10-31-2010 04:32 PM

Of all the times for her stomach to make itself know, Sylvie was not at all pleased. She really hadn't planned on partaking in any of the goodies before her, but her stomach had other ideas. The faint sound of her stomach grumbling was easier settled than ignored. Maybe just a salad would work to settle it.

Stuffing her face was not something she was planning on doing. No that was not going to happen.

Making her way over, she helped herself to a tiny bit of food. It was just a snack after all.

Ameh 10-31-2010 05:12 PM

"It's not hard to make my hair longer than yours," he said lightly, with a glance at hers. "Might have been longer than yours even before... it was getting kinda shaggy."

She liked it. He couldn't help but chuckle at that; for some reason he found that immensely amusing. He would admit to himself that it didn't look bad, even when it was just... there, hanging all about. It did strike him that it seemed to be only a handful of girls, the majority from Ravenclaw, that had strong opinions about his head either way.

"Maybe I'll keep it a bit... dunno, though. If it gets in the way, then it has to go." And he was sure Cela would want it short at her wedding, something he would fully submit to. He'd already be on the wrong side of the aisle.

His free hand touched the mask again, making sure the seams over his nose were still fitted where they were meant to be. It felt... odd. A mask. He couldn't remember ever having worn one before, and it felt strange as it pressed lightly against his features. Strange, and yet comfortable, in a way. It was an amusing thing to know that hiding merely a part of his face would conceal his identity enough that Nia couldn't tell who he was without closer inspection.

"Your best is entirely enough." He was beginning to get that nagging feeling. That he had already ruined her night, just by his existence. He didn't like that. The boy turned his head slightly, looking down at her, and his voicer lowered to a whisper again. "Nobody else knows I'm here, do they now."

Merlin willing, it'll stay that way.

"If I were here for them, they'd know." He probably wouldn't have worn the mask, then. Heh. He was going to resist the smile that threatened to appear at her batting, but it wasn't worth the effort. Nia deserved smiles. "I can't make any promises, but I can surely try."

Did he want to add anything? Hidden expression thoughtful, he considered. What was there to add?

"No. 'cept you're more Slytherin than I gave you credit for."

Laughter? That's what he got? Awesome! Since she wasn't laughing at him, then he was more than okay with that. If Kingsley ever saw him, will he be laughing too? That was his intention, after all. He'd never seen the man laugh.

"Well, let me tell you that you have to love them in order to wear them" he nodded, and spoke with a very serious tone, "Or have a purpose to do so" true, like now, his purpose was to dress up like Kingsley, and ruffles were implied, so he had to wear them. He didn't look bad, though, but he wouldn't wear this every single day. Nope. Actually, he liked muggle wear too much, and the robes only a little.

"Do you want some?" he asked, after seeing how she eyed the chocolate in his hand, "Oh, because...well, he's one of my favorite Professors, and his clothes do look slightly like a costume, don't you think so?" because Treyen made it pass like a costume, totally, and in reality, Professor Kingsley always looked like he was going somewhere other than his classroom.

Mmmmhmmm. Treyen placed a serious expression on his face, and resisted the urge to laugh when she called him 'Professor'. A hobbit. Yes, he knew what those little people were, actually, he could pass as a big hobbit, "Gondor?" what was that and why were they in need of being defended? "It is very nice looking, the white tree, seems like an intricate design" he nodded, gesturing towards the front of her costume.

"Kingsley must really love them then." The man wore them everyday. She briefly wondered if the man had any clothing without ruffles. Arya nodded her head solemnly in agreement, bright eyes betraying her. Treyen did have reason to wear the outfit. It was a costume ball, and Kingsley always did seem like he was in costume. Maybe that's why he liked the ruffles.

Arya nodded her head eagerly, bouncing over to Treyen with grabby hands. The pudding and pies could wait for latter. Now she wanted the chocolate! "Really? Mine too." Awesome he was, awesome enough to be one of her favorites. Her eyes scanned the costume, one hand reaching out to poke at the ruffles. "I think it looks like a costume. From a really old movie." The ones her parents always tried to get her to watch.

Bright brown eyes betrayed the solemn look on her face. "It's a kingdom that sits beside the sea in Middle Earth." She elaborated when he seemed not to know the place. "I'm defending them from Orcs." Her nose scrunched up, vile creatures they were. Glancing down she parted her cape so they both could better look at the white tree. "Its the symbol of Gondor." And it was soooo pretty.

Totally true. He must. And trust Treyen to ask the man. Haha. The boy nodded at Arya and then confusion swept over his face, his hand no longer held the chocolate because he'd eaten it. Mean, he was. "Not my chocolate, but there's plenty over here at the table" he only pointed the way where this one had been, because it was a very delicious piece of chocolate, even more than chocolate frogs.

What? She thought she could have the piece in his hand?

"He is an incredible Professor" one who was patient enough to wait for Treyen to get the spell right, because for some reason he had trouble with most of those he taught in class. Weird. And then...grin. It looked like a costume. Perfect. "I know, right? Like the clothes gentlemen used to wear over two centuries ago" because this was 2073.

He suppressed a laugh when her hand poked the ruffles, really, and he thought that maybe she was doing so because she poking Kingsley was out of the question.

Whaaat was she talking about? Middle Earth? That was like million years ago. Well, not that far away, but it was something Treyen wasn't familiar with. Except hobbits, and orcs, he knew about those. Oooooh, right! Middle Earth! Now he knew! And he remembered something related to that in these books....what were they called? What were they called? Oh! Lord of the Rings, of course, he remembered Kaika reading those, and well, him taking the books away for reading as well.

"I read something like that in Lord of the Rings" he nodded, but gave no further information, "The books and the movies..." he'd seen those, "...that tree caught on fire" and his face turned to the saddest expression ever, "They won, in the end" cue bright smile.

Walking over to the food tables in his Peter Pan costume, JD looks around at the food, trying to decide what he wanted first. He really wished he knew where Ellie had gone to, but well he was hungry so food came first.

His eyes had been on Arya for quite some time, and now he was looking back to those chocolates. He should really try and make those tortillas Saylen spoke of, and put some chocolate in them, of course.

As soon as he turned a bit to his side, in order to look at the table properly and...lookit! The tortillas! He was on his way to reach for one...when...who was the one in green?! And why was he covered in leaves?! Who covers themselves in leaves and comes to Fletcher's party like that? "JD!" he exclaimed, as he noticed who it was, "Do you know you're missing half your costume?" because he was positive that the boy had been planning to come as a tree. That's what the leaves were for, no?

Reaching for a chocolate he goes to put it in his mouth when he drops it as he'd just been told he was missing half his costume. Looking down as his chocolate rolled away he sighed.

"Half my costume?" he asked confused, looking down at his costume, he shook his head. It looked fine to him, was he missing something? Ooooo his sword! To fight Captain Hook, he knew he'd forgotten something! "Uhhh, I thought I'd do better with a wand then a sword."

Looking at Arya, he thought of introducing them, but they already met, right? When they were playing baseball, or trying to? Bah. Anyway, Treyen frowned. Was he not looking at himself correctly? Did he need glasses?

"Yes, half your costume!" he exclaimed, totally not getting why JD hadn't figured it out yet, "Aren't you supposed to be a tree?" he asked, smoothing down some of his ruffles. If Fletcher's party hadn't been a costume one, they'd all look ridiculous right now. "What do you need a sword for if you're a tree?" he asked, tilting his head to one side.

His eyes moving over Arya he smiles at her, maybe she would understand what the heck Treyen was talking about. He still didn't get...

Oooooo Bursting out laughing, he shakes his head "Nooo....I'm not a tree. I'm Peter Pan." Looking down at his outfit, he shakes his head again, Maybe Peter Pan was a bad idea... "And I should have a sword to fight Captain Hook."Reaching for that chocolate again, he pops it into his mouth before someone made him drop it again.

Nia laughed. It was true, her hair was pretty short nowadays. Well, more than just nowadays, it'd been almost three quarters of a year. She ran her fingers through it, glad she'd made the rather bold decison to have her long locks cut off. And if she needed long flowing curls once more - well she now know Raiden could do a good lengthening charm!

She tilted her head curious as he laughed. About her liking his hair like that? It was trueeeee. Admittedly, Nia hadn't really ever seen him have a bad hair day. He always seemed pretty groomed. Unlike her straight off the pitch 'wet and windy Quidditch' look. "Do it," she said with a node. "And if it gets in the way...I could always braid it for you?" She winked. Nia was pretty good at braiding - it was her 'thing' for matches - but whether he'd want it done...

She watched him feel round his mask. Again. She gently pulled his hand alway. "It's fineeeee. I'd say if I thought it was coming loose." It was still odd, not being able to read his expressions. "Looks like some nice spellwork to hold it in place." Not that she could see the spell, obviously. But she could see the fit, and how it held even as his face moved underneath. A better job than she'd done trying to get her wings straight, no doubt.

"I'm glad," Nia said, lifting her head slightly. "Though do tell me if I could do more." Always room for improvement, afterall. At the whisper, she shook her head. "I've not mentioned it. So I'd say it was only you and me," she whispered back. And given his mood, she wasn't planning on making any grand announcements or anything. More likely the opposite. "You want an alias for the evening? You know, in case anyone asks. Because, obviously I'm me." Yes she was. And she couldn't exactly not talk to people if they came up to them. And they might ask about her 'date'. And yeah...then it could get awkwarddddddd.

And then...was a smile spreading across his lips? "Trying is good enough for me," she answered, her own smile widening. Which had a slight smugness to it as he did add something. More Slytherin? Hehe. He was obviously passing on tricks of the trade.

"And what makes you say that?" she questioned, with an arching eyebrow. She was Little Miss Innocent. Totally.

So, yeah, he could tell by the look on JD's face that he had no idea what he was talking about. And it just occurred to the Hufflepuff that perhaps JD never intended to become a tree, which would've been a very uncomfortable costume, by the way.

The laughter was something that confirmed his theory. Treyen had been wrong all along, JD was no tree, then what the hell was he? Adam? As in Adam and Eve?

The boy laughed a bit, because he couldn't have been more wrong. But, what on earth was a Peter Pan? Some sort of pixie? Treyen didn't like pixies after the incident of Diggy!pixie. "Aha! And what is a Peter Pan?" isn't there some sort of tree in the story, because what were the leaves for again? "Captain Hook, he sounds interesting" he said, with a nod. Maybe Treyen could've come as Captain Hook.

"Peter Pan? Well he's a character in a movie. He's like the leader of a group of kids who never grow up." JD explains with a grin on his face. "He can fly because of the fairy dust from Tinkerbell."

A tree....haha, he giggles again as he remembers being asked if he was a tree. Definitely not "Peter Pan wears lots of leaves and stuff te cover him, because he's got no mum, none of the kids do there."

Captain Hook? "Yeah, he's the bad guy."

Ellie walked into the party...ball... and took a good few minutes staring at everyone in their costumes...yeah... Ellie wasn't wearing one. Nope. Just her school robes.

She went straight for the food table. Unsurprisingly.. And looked over it. And then she spotted some boy.... in... leaves? JD, actually. In leaves... Standing next to... someone who could only be Treyen, really.

"Hey Treyen!" The girl greeted the ruffled boy. And she might have given a few glances to JD.

"Ellie?"

Oooooooh, this was making more and more sense as JD kept on explaining. "I see" and does the fellow move around in leaves? At least Tarzan had a piece of fabric. Treyen laughed again, "The leader of a group of kids that never grow up?" well, that sounded..."Interesting" except Treyen couldn't see himself not growing up, perhaps he was more eager to grow up (literally, like in height) than anything else.

"Fairies? They have fairies in the movie?" haha, "That's something muggle, is it not?" because only muggles could think of flying only by some sort of magical powder. It was true, but no wizard will be writing about something like that.

The boy didn't comment on the 'no mum' part. And his expression went from amused to a serious one. They'd lost their mom when he was very little, so, he could be part of that group of kids without moms. Not really funny.

Aha! Captain Hook, "So, he's like Voldemort" yes, Treyen wouldn't want to be dressed up as the evil ones. He always tried to be on the good side.

Then he noticed the red hair. "Ellie!" he greeted her, and then frowned, she was pulling a Mr. Masterson by not dressing up! This was Fletcher's costume party and she wasn't wearing one! Maybe it was some sort of protest for Raiden not winning, huh?

"Why didn't you wear a costume?" he asked, slightly disappointed, truth be told, "Unless you're coming as Ginny Weasley" or Potter-Weasley, whatever. But she needed some Gryffindor robes, not Ravenclaw ones.

"Yep, kind of like that. They don't grow up, but have the land all to themselves. Well...the leaves were the best I could find." Well that and the apron thingy, he had secured the leaves to.

"Yep one fairy though." Yeah, it had to be muggle written, no witch or wizard would be that silly as to have fairy dust. Maybe he should have brought his broomstick too....the wizard version of Peter Pan.

Biting back a giggle as Ellie replied to Treyen "That makes sense." he replied with a grin. She was at least talking to him, he thought with relief. He'd thought she was mad about something, and hey, she was looking at him!

Totally oblivious to why she was having a hard time looking at him "Would you like to dance?" he whispers softly to her.

Er, what?

Treyen was missing something here, because the way they were greeting each other was just plain odd. It also spoke of awkwardness. And he was feeling slightly awkward at the moment.

Treyen chuckled, only one fairy. Hopefully not a Doxy one. Those were evil creatures. Evil! But, they had all the land to themselves? "It doesn't sound so bad" he'll be searching for that movie, really. Because he wanted to see how the costume could be related to the real Peter Pan (well, as real as a movie one is).

He'll be searching specifically for Captain Hook, just the name sounded pretty awesome, even for an evil one. Voldehook would've been a neat name, seriously.

And then the awkward moment was almost gone. Awesome.

Ameh 10-31-2010 11:04 PM

The conversation was suddenly more about his hair than he'd ever expected it to be. Rai resisted the urge to touch it, the subject of their conversation, out of self-consciousness. He was super aware of it now, and of how different it felt from his regular length. It was one thing to go to shorter hair, but for it to sudden get this much longer was a completely different sensation.

"Braid it?" His scepticism was evident in his voice; she needed to see no expression to know how he felt about that. "Do you know just how ridiculous I'd look, if you did that?"

He allowed his hand to be pulled away from his face, and was glad that the mask might hide some of the pink that flooded his face. He couldn't help touching it. As much as he was sure it wouldn't fall off... he could feel it moving when his expression changed. It was a soft mask, yeah, but it was still sturdy and didn't bend that easily, so he could feel it separating from his skin and then moving back into place and all of that.

"Took a bit more doing than the hair did, I can tell you that much. But... if I'm not incompetent, it should stay put, unless I take it off." He wrinkled his nose in demonstration; the mask moved, the edges not quite meeting his skin anymore, but it didn't fall off or otherwise displace itself, and when he let the expression go, the mask was still perfectly in place. "It just feels weird?"

An alias? For some reason, he actually considered this. But... he shook his head. No, no alias. Because it probably wouldn't work, seeing as other parts of him were recognisable. His voice, and his eyes. Not to mention, they were at Hogwarts. People would know.

And people would expect all of the Hogwarts Champions to show up. If they told people he was someone else, then he couldn't still say he was here.

"If anyone asks who your date is... just shrug and say 'He's my date'. If they can't figure it out, that's their own fault."

She could always pretend that Raiden was the one in the cow suit. And she could get by without calling his name at him, or addressing him by it. It wasn't like he would be near her and not paying attention to her.

"You're terribly terribly manipulative," he teased, biting his lip to try and stave off the grin. "Batting your eyes and looking at me like that. You know I can't fight with that, right?"

hermygirl 10-31-2010 11:37 PM

Nia struggled to keep a straight face. She could hear that tone in his voice. "Yes...you know like plait it. Or dreadlock it." She rubbed her lips together, holding in a giggle. Ridiculous? Did he believe she that she'd make him look baddd? Gah! "I think it could be rather...fetching. And practical. Guys can have them too, you know." Not that she honestly thought it would persuade him, but it was true.

"It's holding out good so far," Nia said, leaning across to take a closer look. It was then she realised the really clever part as he wrinkled his nose. The mask lifted off where it held its shape, but then reaffixed itself when it made contact again. "A really nifty spell," she noted, in reference to how it worked, and his success at it. And he thought she was the brainy one! "Just try to forget about it being there," Nia answered. "Ignore it and relax." Though admittedly, she'd probably find have something stuck to her face a bit weird. Especially on her cheeks, because the eye bit would probably just feel like Quidditch goggles.

Okay. So her date...was just her date. How enlightening. She'd have to be careful not to name him directly. An alias would be far more fun. To see how people were gullible enough. But oh well. Though truthfully, the people that cared enough about him being here probably should be able to pick up the slightest hints of it being Raiden. She had, afterall. "Well, my date, it's truely an honour to grace your arm tonight."

Her jaw dropped, and she looked at him in mock surprise, shock...and quite possibly distain. Nia really needed to work on her acting skills. "Manipulative? Batting my eyes? Looking at you?" She raised a dramatic hand to her forehead, whilst doing both of the aforementioned actions, and let out a sigh.

As for fighting it. No comment. But a slight blush did appear in her cheeks. The evening was looking better already.

But when he whispered to her, she quite audibly replied, "No." No. She was not going to be seen dancing with some bush. No.
