"Yes, today we're going to fly on magic carpets, but let's first focus on these lamps. It appears that some of you know the story about Aladdin and the magic lamp. Can anyone tell me how you can make the genie appear?" Vindictus asked.

"Oh," Eino began as he raised his hand "you are supposed to rub the lamp and a genie will appear to fulfill three wishes." He explained.

Marie held her lamp in her hand just looking at it. "By rubbing it the genie will appear." she said holding up her hand that wasn't holding the lamp. She then seen that Salander was already rubbing his lamp.

Crud, when did he get to class, and how did she miss him? Now he would find out that she wasn't really afraid of heights. She knew her lie would catch up to her.

He suppressed a groan as he heard the words 'flying' and 'carpets' together in the same sentence.

Treyen was not a very good carpet flying fellow. He did so well on brooms, and possibly bathtubs, that he didn't truly approve of carpets. They offered very little support if you fell. Not safe. Which equaled fun. Ha!

But the lamps, he surely didn't want to find a spider in there, he'll kill it for sure.


NOOOOOO.

Magic carpets. Siiiigh.

The boy shook his head as Professor Vindictus spoke and then raised his hand, "Well, you have to rub the lamp with your hand, no?" he said, with a nod.

"Rub it like this!" the lad replied excitedly as he rubbed the lamp on its side with his palm, still thinking that a buxom blonde will pop out any time soon "and say... uh Open Sesame!" Or is he mixing his stories up?

"That's correct - rub the lamp gently and a genie might appear." Vindictus sat the bag down on the grass and went about removing the tarp that was covering the magic carpets.

"While we wait for a genie to appear, we should talk magic carpets. So, um, why don't we fly carpets in Britain?" He glanced up at the castle and hoped that Tate wouldn't make this THE lesson to appear at.

Riley was listening to the Professor and only glancing at the open sky every once in a while. The clean air always helped to make the Gryffindor think more clearly. "Umm...becuase they are illegal here?" he said slowly, a bit unsure. They weren't very common at least, but he was sure there was something wrong with having one right?

Eino raised his hand. "They used to be legal, but now they are banned because Muggles are familiar with them, and are considered a Muggle Artefact by the Registry of Proscribed Charmable Objects. However, they are still legal in other countries." He explained proudly. For once reading about Muggles had payed off, and in one of the least expected places! He was now really excited to fly a magic carpet, despite the fact that they were banned he hoped the Professor would let them or there would be an exception within Hogwarts grounds.

"You're absolutely correct, so let's pretend that we don't know what the law is for the sake of education," Vindictus replied in a low, serious voice. "So, um, has anyone had any luck with their lamp?"

Evelyn...pretty much the whole time...was inching her way towards the bag. She really didn't want to put her hand in there if there really were spiders. Creepy little monsters.

However, since no one was screaming or dying, she figured it must have been safe right? Taking out a lamp, quickly just in case those eight legged creeps were hiding in there somewhere waiting for her hand to show up, the Slytherin scooted back to where she was sitting and sat the lamp in front of her.

No, she wasn't going to rub it. That was stupid. Then again, she may have when she was taking the lamp out of the bag and panicking like no other while doing so.

The Professor didn't seem as bad as people had told him he was, perhaps it was a first year scare prank. Now he felt more comfortable, and grew more and more excited to fly. He was surprised the Professor was going to let them fly a magic carpet, but he was sure the Professor knew what he was doing, or he hoped. There were no Muggles around so it shouldn't be a problem. He took his lamp and began to rub it discreetly, but he felt silly because nothing would happen. He looked around at his classmates to see if anyone had conjured a genie.

Flying on carpets wasn't allowed? Kurumi had never heard this before. Riding on a carpet sounded like a lot of fun - that is, if it was anything like riding on a pillow like she had done in Runes.

Kurumi looked down at her lamp and...oh...perhaps there was some purple-ish looking smoke coming out of it? She began rubbing it over and over again and looked very closesly at it. Smoke?! Oh no...wait....it was just some dust that she had rubbed off.

"Ali Baba heard the forty thieves use that simple spell to open the cave where the stolen treasure was hidden. Do you not read classic literature in Slytherin these days?" stated the Grey Lady as she emerged from the lamp. "You must also rub the lamp gently."

"Uh, still nothing Professor"the lad shook his head sadly. He hasnt stopped rubbing since he got the lamp out of the bag, and was starting to think that his genie has been freed. "Are we supposed to say a magic word?" Open Sesame had to mean something right?

And just as he spoke to the Professor, a lady appeared from his lamp, so startled was he that he nearly dropped it. "Uhh....." he drawled as he stared at the apparition before him. Classic what? Rub where? Not quite the buxom genie he expected but "Are you my Jeannie?" he asked her "Do i get three wishes now?" hey he had to ask right?

Vindy-ay was being shifty-ay today-yay. Hmm. Fletcher narrowed his eyes at the professor and then glanced back down at his lamp and up again.

"Mine's broken, professor." Cue pouty face. He had even tried making a wish and rubbing it and being all in awe and all and believing in it... and still it did not work. "I bet we can't fly carpets in Britain for the same reason we can't fly lily pads and loos cars in Britain."

Which was?

"Air traffic controllers. They're HARSH man, harsh."

Totally not speaking from personal experience there. Fletcher sniffled to himself and glanced back down at his lamp. He was all set to chuck it away when lo and behold, SALANDER appeared to have had some luck with his! Oh well. Maybe if Fletcher spoke to it first it would obey him.

"MERLIN'S MOTHBALLS!" the boy gasped, pointing wildly at the transparent person there with both hands on his lamp. "GENIE!!!!!!!! Grant me my wishes three!!!!!!!!

Kurumi's eyes popped out of her head. "W-w-who are you?" she managed to whispered before taking the advice and rubbing her lamp gently. Yep, this time there was definately some purple smoke coming out.

James kept his mouth shut but it was clear he found SOMETHING funny judging by his smirk. He eyed his lamp and then looked up as some ghost appeared.

... okay, he knew who it was.

... She was kinda hot for a ghost too.

"I always kinda wondered if the genie myths actually came from ghosts haunting an object." He mused to himself.

No, thank you. Treyen didn't want a lamp. Mainly because he was rather afraid that Saylen may show up any minute now and just in time to see the Hufflepuff boy killing a creature.

He'd be doomed for sure.

So, Treyen just shrugged, without even touching the lamp. "Nope" but Vindictus didn't know he wasn't trying to bring the genie out of the lamp, or whatever spider was inside it.

Blink. Blink. Blink.

And who was this?!

Man, he missed Peeves.

"We do not haunt anything," Unless they are as good looking yourself . . . "And stop talking about genie myths like they are foreign. They are only muggle related." Sniff, sniff.

Now...there were two? Kurumi blinked several times and just kept staring at the two see-through people. She looked back at her lamp and then back at the two ghosts. Maybe she was going crazy?

"Myrtle!" that was all he said, and his eyes couldn't help but wander off to where Fletcher was. It was just common sense to think of Fletcher while Myrtle was here. Only if Melanie was too.

But, riiiiiiiiight, they don't haunt anything. Haha.

Muggle related? He didn't think so, but since he was still wondering who the other ghost was, then he kept quiet. And now he was hugging the lamp he'd gotten from Vindictus...maybe this one had a genie that will make Peeves appear.

Where did that one come from?

James Wilkes was SUCH a gentleman, he didn't even flinch away, despite the fact that this particular ghost was definitely unfortunate looking. He couldn't see any reason to bring that up though, it wouldn't benefit him at all. So he just gave the ghost his best cute crooked grin, the very same one that quite literally had made quite the number of Hogwarts girls take it upon themselves to kiss him.

"Awww I'm sorry." Liar. Ghosts = Haunters. 'Nuff said.

"I don't really know all that much about muggles. If this were Muggle Studies, maybe you could teach me a thing or two." Poor ghost, unfortunate thing, looked like she needed a few lessons of her own. Or you know, she died before she learned the sort of thing James had a talent in.

Eino was startled by the ghosts, since this was an unusual place to receive a visit from them. The Grey Lady was as pretty as he had read about and heard from people, and Moaning Myrtle just as, well just as he had heard, as well. But what were the ghosts doing here? Probably to mock them and punish them with eternal embarrassment for rubbing a lamp in hopes of summoning a mythical being. He stopped when he was convinced nothing would happen. Wasn't the genie in the lamp just a myth created by Muggles? He wasn't sure, but everything thus far pointed in that direction.

"Do I look like a genie to you?" she asked and then heard the voice of the boy who she watched fighting over a rooster during the Third Task. "Pardon me while I smack some sense into the Triwizard champion."

Helena floated out of the lamp and over to Duncan Fletcher.

"I am NOT a genie, Duncan Fletcher!"

A ghostly hand was raised and struck Fletcher's right cheek. It wasn't really a slap, just a frigid blast of air hitting his cheek and moving through his head.

At last - a smart student who knew how to ask the right questions! One look at the student's robes and she smiled as she left Fletcher.

"Why, I'm the Grey Lady of Ravenclaw. And you are Kurumi - I've watched you study in the Gryffindor common room."

"You... are in a serious state of denial, madame," he grunted, rubbing his cheek where the icy air had basically whipped him silly. "You came out of his," Salander's, "lamp. I witnessed it. De-ni-al."

He held his head up proudly and jutted his chin out. "And how did you get my name anyway?" Please don't say he was on the do-not-grant-wishes list.... Fletcher was gonna be real bummed if that was the case. But before he could even consider that possibility, the boy heard his fanboy's little exclamation.

"Myrtle???? WHERE?!!!!!" Fletcher's head whipped away from the rude, slappy "genie" and he looked around and around the grassy area for the girl ghostie he had been MEANING to visit all term.

Aha! THERE she was! Fletch winked in Treyen's direction, sure that he was thinking the same thing he was, and then the Hufflepuff scooted on his bum over toward the Ravenclaw conversing with HIS girl ghostie.

"Myrtleeeeeeeeee," the Champion practically purred, grinning wickedly as he scooted ever closer. "Please tell me you've come to grant me three wishes...."
